| Was planning and needing to run a 20 miler but after 10 I quit. It was 73 degrees and 80% hmidity...too hot. Still not feeling good running. I think I'm going to go for a high milage week and see if I can kick this blaugh feeling!

| It was cold today. 39 degrees with a 17 mph wind....Burrrr!!! My HR was doing something weird again today. I could tell it wasn't right so I walked about every half mile throughout the run, that's why there's some slower miles. After about 5 miles I felt normal.

| Finished my 60 mile week, running six 10 mile runs this week. The weather was from 37 degrees to 73 degrees. My legs are doing fine but my HR and cardio are acting weird. Not exactly sure what I'm going to do at this point. Callie (my daughter) ran the Phoenix Marathon today hoping to qualify for Boston but she didn't have a good day. My plan was to run The Woodlans Marathon in 3 weeks and requalify. Now I'm rethinking that and may skip it and wait for her to qualify or at least run a fall marathon with her. Still bummed I'm not going to Boston but I don't really see the need to just go run and spend the money without Callie there.

| Working down to my last two week taper. Marathon is on March 2nd. Nice day to run, I hope race day is this good! This run felt good but always the doubts about running 26 miles. :-( Last year I ran this same run 2 weeks out at a 7:36/159 HR so this at 7:32/154 HR looks good "on paper". :-) Nice progression on my effort to the last fast mile.

| I started to simply cut and paste last year’s race report since this year and last year are very close to the same. J The only real difference is that this year I had some trouble with my calves cramping which caused me to take it a little easier on a few miles.
The race is actually a really well executed and supported race, even though it is not very big. The course is very flat with only a few slight up hills and several long sloping down hills that make it feel really nice to run.
As you probably know I was not feeling very good about my chances of pulling off a good race. My main concern was that I would bonk at the 18-20 mile mark. I felt like I succeeded on only one of my four 20 mile training runs. The other three I basically bonked, even though I was running at a much slower pace. I guess a little rest, race day magic and decent weather got me out of that funk.
The weather was pretty good at 54 degrees at the start and 62 at the end. It was very humid/foggy/misting at the start but okay for me.
I started out again, with about the 3:40 pace group just because I knew they would start way too fast, which would be about where I wanted to start. Ha ha, I actually didn’t catch the 3:30 group until about mile 16 and I was a couple of minutes behind them to start. Running was pretty uneventful as I basically ran by myself and passing people all of the race. I was my cheerful self, talking to everyone I passed, although I think it just annoys most people. I tried to get a couple of people to race me at about the 24 mile mark but no one would take the challenge. J
I wasn’t able to stay for the awards and get my official time. Last year I placed 2nd in my age group. I’ll update the blog and times when it get posted.
I am relieved to get the BQ out of the way. This race actually gave me some confidence that I can break 3:20 again and possibly shoot for a new PR, even though I gained a few years since I ran the 3:18.
Thanks guys for all your encouragement…It really is a help…!!!! Hope to get to see some of you at Boston 2020 (Just got to get Callie, my daughter qualified now!)

On another note, I've been working very hard to rope well and qualify for the big finals in Las Vegas in December again and had some great luck a week ago. I won 1st in the San Antonio Heartland Roping which qualified me and I also won a very nice saddle, buckle and other prizes including quite a bit of money!

| I've been very laxed in posting and actually running lately only averaging about 15 miles per week. I need to at least jump this up to 25. I did spin a couple of times, I think I'll do that more this summer to avoid the hot weather. The temp has in the low 70's when I run with 90-100 percent humidity and 65-70 degree dewpoint so not really very comfortable or fun.

| Great News.....!!!
Callie (my daughter) qualified for Boston 2020 this weekend at the Tunnel Marathon in Washington State. This has been a bucket list goal for her for 10 years now, since she and I started running. Finally her training, mindset and health aligned and allowed her to CRUSH her qualifying time by almost 8 minutes. She ran a 3:22:21....WOW...!!! Now she and I can go run it together as I qualified earlier this year.
CONGRATULATIONS Callie...!!! Let's go run Boston...!!!

I've only been running a little. It's just been hot and I've seemed to had my concentration on other things. I've qualified for Boston 2020 (as well as Callie, my daughter). We're both very excited to do this as it's been our goal for about 5 years. I've also qualified for Las Vegas World Series Team Roping Finals in three catagories. Very excited for that as there is a lot of money to be won there.
I will start my real training cycle at the beginning of September for a couple of fall/winter races, before I get serious about training for Boston!

| We're in Illinois with family. Callie is here and found us a 5K to run today. Although I'm not really in shape to run a 5K I think I did okay in this race. It was a fairly big 5K that has been run in Shelbyville for the last 20 years or so. Lots of fast runners, running clubs and school age runners. Callie and I ran together. She won 3rd in her age group (I think I held her back) and I won 2nd in the old man 50-59 age devision. I'm not looking forward to moving into the 60+ age group next year. :-(
(This race was almost completly under trees. My GPS lost signal several times for short distances so the actual paces were a little faster for miles. But the course was measured and certified so the overall is correct.)

| Going into the race I had settled on a goal of a 7:15 pace. Looking back now I think I underestimated what I could do. I believe I ran it a little too consertive through most of the race which caused me to have to really push at the end to actually meet that goal. I felt really good after the race. This is the 3rd fastest Chosen I've run. Maybe next year I'll try to beat my fastest. :-)
