It was 54 degrees and windy this morning.  I ran 5.75 miles easy.  The IT Band started tight but loosened up a bit as I went farther.

It was 44 degrees with a cool breeze this morning.  I ran 5.79 easy miles.  IT Band still the same...tight at first, then a bit better.  I don't know what it will do over a long distance.

It was tough...but I finished.....

I have been battling IT Band issues for about 2 weeks now.  I cut back my miles and did my best to heal it....

I felt the same in the morning as I have been feeling.  My left IT Band was tight so I knew it would be a long day.  My goal was to finish and I was unsure if I would.  I had a good talk with Kory Friday night and between some wonderful prayers and positive thoughts I made it through.  I was sitting alone on the bus and said one last prayer on the way up.

I started out about mid-pack after the first half-mile and just settled in to my pace.  Barry Smith passed me in the first mile and told me my running looked funny, like I was in pain.  I knew my stride was going to look bad as I was favoring the left knee.  I told him good luck and just soldiered on.

As the sun cam up I looked at my Garmin and my pace wasn't too bad.  I was averaging a 7:12 by the time I started the out-and-back at mile 7/8.  I saw a few familiar faces as I headed up and back and that helped as well.  I was thinking if I could have a 7:30 average at the half I could limp in an 8:30 average in the 2nd half and still be around 3:30.

I hit the half in 1:36, a bit ahead of schedule.  Unfortunately, my abdominal tendonosis started to hurt so I had decisions to make.  I was heading in to the classic Catch-22.  I have been dealing with this abdominal issue for months and while it is improving, I last a lot longer if I take a few walk breaks to keep the pain at bay.  Here is where the Catch-22 comes in to play.  I also knew that if I stopped to walk, my IT Band would tighten up and I would have a hard time getting going again.  To add to that, I was beginning to need a bathroom stop.

I decided to push as far as I could before my first stop because I did not want to deal with the IT Band getting worse.  It was hurting, but I could deal with it.  The miles coming through Inkom and on the old highway were starting to get a bit ugly.  I saw Sue and Nicole around mile 17 and they helped my spirits.  Sue later told me that I looked like my hands were clenched and my face was in a severe grimace.  I was indeed running through pain, but to be honest I was not feeling that bad or I was ignoring it pretty well.  As I passed each mile marker I just said "Kory" under my breath.  I knew he was praying for me and I cannot thank him enough as I felt that strength carry me through.

By the time I hit the 20 mile mark, I knew I had to stop for a minute.  I used the porta-potty and when I stepped out, the 10K race started right in front of me.  I spent the last 6 miles weaving my way through 10K walkers, then 10k slower runners, then 5K walkers, and so on.  It was a bit exhausting.  I stopped and walked at mile 23 and again at mile 25.

When I was getting ready to run again at the mile 25 aid station I saw Teena getting a drink.  I asked her how she was doing and she asked me to push her in for a PR.  This was all I needed to finish with a decent mile.  We worked our way around the slower runners and walkers and finished strong.  She got her PR by a minute and I was honored to be a small part of it.

This was my 10th Pocatello Marathon and it was my slowest (3:32).  But I will take it as an injury PR and to be honest I was just happy to finish.  I got to talk to lots of great people in the shady finish area.  Jeff won the half, Dan Bruner got a 2:50, Teena got a PR.  I met Smooth and her husband, they are GREAT people.

I want to thank Kory again....he helped me a ton this day!  He knows what I mean.

I am hoping to be a lot healthier by St.George.

It was chilly out this morning (29) and my knee hurts, but I needed to run just to get the stiffness out of my quads from Saturday's marathon.  I decided to run on my treadmill, starting very slowly and then working up to a better pace.

I ran 3.00 miles easy.  My knee (ITB) hurt but it made the rest of my legs feel much better.

I have not been running the last couple days.  I hurt my lower back Wednesday morning moving some heavy stuff around.  I think I hurt it because I was favoring my knee and did not bend my legs correctly.  I am still alive.....just not running until my back is better.

On a positive note....we went to the Foreigner concert at the fair last night and it was GREAT!  Even with the poor weather we had a good time and the band sounded really good.

It was 43 degrees, but felt pretty nice this morning.  I ran 6.55 miles easy.  The back loosened up nicely during the first mile and the knee feels a bit better.

On a frustrating note....some animal from the field across the street dug a bunch of holes in my front lawn.  Probably looking for grubs to eat.  I probably have close to 100 (seriously!) holes in my yard.

Today was the last race in the Fun run series.  I took the last few days off to try and get my IT/knee issue better so I can run St.George in 2 weeks.  I only ran this because I was winning the series for my age group and all I had to do was finish and I would win.

I ran like I figured I would.  I took it easy the first 4.5 miles and then picked it up (6:50) for the last mile and a half.  My knee was iffy on the downhills but just fine on the flat.

I decided to do my run tonight instead of in the morning.  I was hoping my IT Band would be more warmed-up and I might run better.  It didn't help.  It was 72 degrees and really windy when I started at 5:00pm.  I ran 6.40 miles easy and ugly as my form was very poor.

It was cool and windy this morning.  I re-taped my IT band before the run and that seemed to help.  I ran 5.78 easy.

It was 50 degrees and breezy this morning.  A nice day for a run.  The new tape job on my IT Band seems to be working a bit better.  My right quad hurt the first couple of miles.  I think it has been over-compensating on the push-off to make up for the weakness in my left leg strength.  I stopped at a park after a little over 5 miles and stretched the quads good and the rest of the run went better.  I ran 10.61 miles, actually my longest run since the Pocatello marathon.

I am actually feeling more issues with loss of fitness than I am with the IT Band....

I ran 6.54 miles easy this morning.

I got a VERY DEEP massage focusing on my left IT Band this morning.  He did some bone-scraping which made me want to slug him, but I knew I needed it.  He told me I would probably be very sore tomorrow.  He did loan me a portable TEMS to work the left leg.

I did the TEMS for 30 minutes tonight and then iced my leg....hope this works.

I was very sore this morning, especially my PSAOS muscle which I think he worked too hard yesterday.  I needed to work early so I will rest today.

It was 41 degrees this morning.  I ran 5.11 nice, easy miles, most of them with Bob.  My IT Band loosened up much quicker today after the beating it took Tuesday.  I am hoping this is a positive sign.

I am just planning on taking it easy in St.George Saturday.  I am worried, however, that the heat will impact some of you who have worked so hard for a PR.  Here's hoping for cooler weather.
