ran three miles in just under 8 pace.  then did some core. then ran another three miles (and 0.1) in 7:37 Ap.  feeling almost normal again after a whole year and a half of a major depression.  but i am not counting my eggs yet.  this is a battle to be won daily and cleverly.  did some upper body with mel, kim, jane, angie and jen.

slept in til 9 and the day got away from me.  i wanted to go but amber had a game at 1040am (her against boys and a team of all boys and she scored the first goal and three more and three assists even though she sat out for half the game--five subs is too many).  Score 13-2.   Amber is a great soccer player!!  Then I took my girls ice skating at Peaks.  And since I could go now to work out I am calling it cause I am meeting Mel and Jane at 530am.  That is one workout I don't want to come burnt out to.  We are running outside and rarely does mel run slow.  So I GOT TO BE AWAKE.    Excuse me I am kind of grossed out here--I AM GOING TO BE 46 next MONTH.  46????????  30 years ago I was nearly dead.  Wow...

10.25 miles outside at 530 am with Mel and jane.  Well I was behind but would be by them when they would stop thankfully. Ap 7:48.  Then went inside gym and ran three more on tm after changing to shorts. Stomach and thighs bright red.  I never warmed up in lower body on this run outside.  Especially right foot.   But on tm after first 1/2 mile I felt energized. Started at 730 pace then 7:24 second mile then 7:10 last mile. Ap 7:20   Then did core and weights and some pump.  Pretty much a marathon exercise morning. Left gym at 0855.

So 640 extra  dollars I could not refuse.   Since I was lazy over break and barely worked but hung with my kiddos .   Have car repairs and going to soccer tourney in Vegas next week.

Got called into work on Peds.   Four hours into my shift I began to feel intense nausea.  Eventually sent home with stomach flu.   It was very bad.  Vomiting hit an hour later.  Shaking and chills when I got home.  So glad someone came in for me.  I couldn't make it any longer.  I felt bad to leave my patients high and dry but can't work sick obviously.  This flu lasted all weekend. Worst part was  first 24 hours. Quite queasy rest of time.

Five miles easy at gym. My mom is coming out to Utah Sunday.  STAGE FOUR PANCREATIC CANCER.  Wow. This is pretty sucky.  Haven't had to deal first hand with Cancer since my sister in 1998 with nonhodgkins lymphoma.  She is cured. NO cure for pancreatic cancer.  Pretty much devastated. My mother is staying with me and getting palliative treatment at the Huntsman Cancer Institute.

8 miles at the gym.  Ran 15 min ons/offs.  Ons from 9.8 -10.2 (3 at each pace)  Offs at 8:34 for 75 seconds.  Trying NOT to think about cancer.  Pretty much quite irritated that I can't solve this problem.  Pancreatic cancer in any stage is uncurable.

five miles at the gym so I can see my friends. Saw Britney, Kim and Jen.  Appointment at Huntman Cancer Institute today.  WAS THE VERY WORST APPOINTMENT I HAVE EVER BEEN TO. LIKE KICKING SOMEONE WHEN THEY ARE DOWN.  Wow that was just awful.  Dr. asked my mother if she wanted her prognosis or if she heard anything/read anything. We both said two years.  He said NO MUCH SHORTER.  4-5 months median age (half people die) if untreated within 4-5 months.  9-12 months if treated.  I was like hold on there. But then I just broke down and cried and jumped to my mother's side.  It was like learning your family just died in a car accident but only you can brace yourself for it.  As many of you know I lost two members of my family- my dad and older sister who was 14 at the time in a car accident in 1982 and my brother three years later in a car accident 1985.  I think we felt like begging for mercy.  It was unbelievably awful.   Just not right.  But NOW TO BE POSITIVE. She could be that 1% and there could be some clinical trials that will improve outcomes. There are some they just don't have a spot for my mother yet. All filled up.  Waiting to hear if there is one over the week until she starts chemo next Tuesday. Sorry this is not much of a running blog. IT is my life alongside running.

Ran up in Ogden after driving there for training at 6am and training until 530pm.  Ran at 7pm. Up hill two miles to the east from the hotel, hampton inn and suites downtown. Then took long way back that included running by the Ogden temple. Went out for dinner with Danielle, another nurse training with me. We went to the Blue Lemon.  Fish TACOS yum yum and chocolate cake.  Couldn't sleep this night (Thursday). Always the case adjusting to the end of daylight savings.

So CUTE and her hair was crimped and braided nicely. So perfect!!! Anyway got hungry being there for two hours that I went home to eat breakfast first before running then one thing led to another...I didn't get out to run.  Helping my mom and other family and then Amber's soccer game.

5 easy outside.  nice run.  so warm.  73.   8:15 ap.  My mom has her first chemo treatment that we will instead call her "Royal Treatment"  in order to have a more positive connotation with it.    So Sunday night Amber stepped on a wood chip.  I tried so hard to get it out and NOT have to depend on a Dr. visit/cost.  I got fragment after fragment out that night. she went to bed and wanted to go to school.  I had her soak it after school and used the baking soda method.  LITTLE DID I KNOW IT WAS WAY MORE HUGE besides the tip of a pen a  1/4 below the skin staring out at me!!  The dr even asked if I was sure it was a wood chip?? Really yes it is not a blood speckle that is black wood.  He numbed her foot and couldn't get it out with even super eyes (special up close glasses).   So from the Dr at 1100 we had to wait for her podiatrist appointment at 245pm. Amber has been a trooper. So much pain and tears.  An hour into the visit with Dr. Phillips he yanked that DeVil (amber is calling it that) out.  She said there was so much pain but also so much joy. I had to hold her for all the injections and pus removal.  Yup infected.  Anyway she is on an antibiotic and tip toeing around but such a relief. I posted the pic on facebook. Meanwhile my mom went up as planned to Huntsman Cancer Institute with my sister but not me un fortunately but  I couldnt feel unnecessary guilt. Amber needed this thing out and sending my dear husband would have wound up in surgery as that was the first thing the podiatrist wanted to do!! 10 days off foot with an incision. NOPE.  I said a quick prayer and went for the in office approach.  He was unsure if there were fragments or one long stick. Yup a 1/2 inch stick.  Phew.  After Amber's appointment and texting back and forth to my mother up with her Royal Treatment Amber and I made dinner together for the family and it was all ready for my mom when she got back.  So good to see Amber happy again.  Also my mom did really well.  Felt the same.  No feeling of having had anything. That is a tender mercy for sure!! She is my same old mom!! :D.  She even slept like a log even though they said she would probably be up all night due to the IV steroid given to prevent rejection of the other meds.

To conquer my worries and fears about my mom.  We shaved her head yesterday as after third treatment on Tuesday her hair was coming out in coumps. I put on my nursing role and did al I could to help my mother feel good about this physical change that hopefully is temporary as . But worried as there is no end to her treatments until she soaps she has had enough as there is no cure for pancreatic cancer and all Treatnent they say is palliative only. Meaning to prolong life as long as possible. I hAte this. I hate this to the bone. But I have passed the denial angry sad stage and now I am in the fight stGe the hope stAge the miracle stage. 5 easy no watch.  then off to cardiologist for my mom and a TMJ brace for my lower teeth.  I dont talk of it but it is a daily battle with a locking jaw and painful spasms to my head and neck on the right and when I eat suddenly my jaw locks up and sharp pain shoots all by mandible.  I have had this for years but just over the last two years it has gotten progressively worse.  I honestly wonder what it would be like to have a normal jaw with no pain to my neck and shoulder and face 24/7.    It actually takes a lot of my mental energy to just zone it out.  Kind of wearing on me after over 20 years.

saucony fives.  speed work at gym next to Jane. We decided on a lactate threshold run.  3 x 2 miles.  Ran 1.5 miles of a rather quick warmup.  Then 6:39 pace for my two milers increasing to 6:35 for last bit of second and third set.  Ran 3/4 mile in between second and third set.  Took potty break after first set so only ran 0.25 miles.

Toe normal size and no pain.  Just a bruise left.  But after five miles it ached and the next day as  I write this it is swollen again and tender to walk on so probably a fracture going on.  Oh well.  Ran up to AF high school from my house then the back way of AF half course to mouth of canyon.  One tiny stop to potty on way back.  Literally ran into Jane, Angie and Jen (I knew they were coming down but left earlier than I wanted but oddly enough leaving 50 minutes later from my house I caught them as they were reaching 9.5 miles and  I was approaching mile 8.  Yay.  So turned around and ran the same way back.  We stopped three times before finish.  But ran pretty quickly.  My toe was quite achy by that point. Also I am having daily headaches.  GRrr.    Went to Final game of State Cup and watched La Roca u14 win in Penalty kicks against Avalanche when they were down 3-1 with ten minutes left in the game.  Wow!!   Over time of two 10 minute halves and no score.  It was cool however  Ithink ref gave it to La roca. He let the game go over six minutes!! Crazy.  I don't mean that mean just that I have seen games be lost due to refs.  But hey I am not a ref.  Wouldn't want to be.    Oh yah, no watch today. Been watchless a lot lately.  Payson Temple Open House.  Nice!!  :D  saw Jen Hughes directing traffic.  Totally would be awesome to live right across the street from there!!

Totally on the fly half marathon.  Utah Valley.  Texted Melanie last night and she was running it (not racing) so decided to drive with her to the start and run it with her. We met at the finish and drove to the start in my car (better than catching a 430am bus, we got to start at 5:40am).  She was suffering from a leg infection so was going easy (her easy is still faster than my out of shape pace).  I being out of shape had no interest going her easy pace.  The run on white concrete was hard enough on my muscles in my back from lack of training. We warmed up running from my parked car uphill to the start 1/2 mile really easy.  I slowed last three miles of race. Would have been 1:36:xx had I kept up my pace but with medication and no training I was dizzy from the first 10 miles under 7:30 pace avg pace.  Ended at 7:33 average pace for 13 miles, turned to the left to where my car was parked as soon as my garmin beeped 13 miles.  1:38:13.  So would have slid right under 1:39 had I gone through the shoot.  Lots of work to do if  I can heal my brain.

The BEAST (eye of the tiger hill) 2.5 miles steep uphill.  22:48 from my house rounding up by Harrison's first.  Last Thursday it took me 23:13.  Left later today so less shade and oh my heat!!  I don't stop at the top.  I continue past the block of lined trees and loop around them and head back down to Canal Trail. Take some water there (so luke warm) and head on out the trail until I can cross Canyon road where the road goes to the Timp Temple.  I like coming back this way as it is usually shaded from the mountain side.  NOPE not at 9:30am.  I also like the gradual decent this way.   I headed down 1300 west back home.  8:15 ap.

1:50 pacer for the midnight half which starts at 10pm (try to beat midnight I guess :D).   Ran all 8 min pace miles til mile 9 with one girl (ended up second place) and third place girl we picked up after the turn around at mile 7.  I didn't mean to go faster than pace that is just the pace that was nice and easy....but it was super hot!!  85 degrees at the start and muggy. No wind and no cool spots.  Just brief warm (less hot) spots.  I guess it was pacer slow down body strategy because after mile 9  I got cold chills like I was dehydrated or had heat stroke and my breathing became labored. Luckily it was when I was planning on slowing to 9 min pace what I didn't plan on  was how HARD IT WAS TO EVEN KEEP THAT PACE!!! mile 11 was a 9:30. I had to stop and walk to catch my breath.  My right leg cramped up at mile 12 after I tripped on the trail (fell off the side actually).  It was dark as I forgot my headlamp (I signed up for this Thursday and had lots going on friday, competition soccer for my girls).  I arrived at the race at 945pm.    And off we went about two minutes until 10pm.  The trail was bumpy from concrete lifting from tree roots.  It was like jump running to miss them at times.  I knew the route as I lived over there and used to 10 years ago run it all the time!!  Some new additions with the tunnels but all in all the same but the darkness was the tough part. It was eerie in spots.  So glad Mick ran by me with her headlamp (21 years old she ran it in 1:43:57).  I felt it was stifling. She said she loved running in warm weather.    Anyway, with the six tunnels on the way out and then the same six on the way back our garmins read the course shorts (12.87) as it can't pick up in the tunnel.  Because of that I thought I was on pace for 1:50 but actually ran faster in 1:48:11.    So today when I write this (Monday) it turns out that my leg cramp really is just my back (scaitica to the MAX!!, probably reinjured herniated disc), when I fell off the curb.  It is quite painful in my back radiating down my butt and hamstring to my foot burning on the bottom.  Icing it.  Motrin too.

2.67 up and back down at mouth of provo canyon.  This whole run is impromtu.  I honestly just woke at 5am and said...its forth of july and its saturday.  hmmm....I should be running with friends so I group texted what the run was and met up there.  I was late for six add on with Jane and Angie but early for Kim and Staci and Jen who were running less.  So I warmed up running up the provo canyon trail.  Ap 8:33 for those miles then ran up five miles with Kim and Staci and Angie and Jen and some with Jane.  Ran further by myself to water fountain thinking it was only 0.2 miles away while the others turned around.  Well it ended up being 0.75 miles away (so 1.5 miles behind them on the way back).  I was then running solo the remaining miles back to car.  I picked it up a little then I just cooled it.  One mile 7:14 the rest 7:30s.  AP for 11.5 = 7:52.

1 mile warmup real easy.  9:31.  4 miles at steady state (20-30 seconds slower than marathon pace). I  am guessing for St george with proper training that my mp is a 3:15 (7:26per mile).  Steady state is comfortably hard. It was today because I had just run fast yesterday the six at half marathon pace (7;08ap).  Normally this would have been a rest day but I wasn't watching the schedule close enough so I opted to put the two in a row and be smarter next week.   My mile paces  for the steady state were 7:46, 7:41, 7:36 and 7:34.    1 mile cooldown in 8:20.

Bed at 1130 pm.  up at 235 am.  Drove to Salt Lake Eccles stadium.  Rode bus to start of course at 345am.  Arrived at top at 445am.  Race started at 530am.  Small crowd.  Less than 500 runners I think. This race is bigger for the 10K classic.  Kept pace above 8s the entire race as pacer. Downhill miles a little closer to 8 pace at times but all others 8:15-8:24.  One mile at 7:47 to catch back up to my pace partner after a 4.5 minute potty stop waiting for two guys to come out of the bathroom.  This was just before the hill climb at mile 5.5 that lasts 3 miles.  Didn't catch my partner until 12.5 miles.  I didn't want to overdo it but only steadily gain on him.  Held the sign the rest of the way except for one other mile.  And three before the potty break.  We had a great group  from 12 to 18 then those guys burned out.  AP was supposed to be 8:34.  Ended up with 8:28 with 0.2 long course.  As pacer I don't like to slow too far down at end especially when  I could tell from my garmin that the course was long.  Each mile hit early.  So we ended up 1:04 seconds below pace (26.4 miles however).  Since it was long I was glad I didn't slow more thinking the course was on or I would have gone over time.  Work the next three days 12 hour shifts.  Ouch.

worked all day.  was supposed to get day off but too busy at work.  Plan to go camping with family right after work so no time for a run.  left for camping at 715 pm.  no room at any campground or hotel in heber, midway or park city (except the much dolares ones). Drove back around on I80 to salt lake and slept at Little America. Arrived there at 1130pm!!

Woke up in hotel at 9am.  Read the wonderful results of my friends at the timp half. Jane came in first in 1:20 on a long course. I think they said 1/4 mile.  I left my hotel on my run at 920am and headed north then east past Sunnyside Ave (hogle zoo turn off) on Foothill drive for two more miles (7 out and back) and was sweltering so stopped at gas station for some H2O.  Nice.  Ran back.  8:35 avg pace.  ran 5 strides for 60seconds with four minutes in between.  I was seriously hot!! it was near 90 when I finished.  Plan was to run easy and it was easy.  JUST hot.  Left to camp in Kamas with the family.  Fun!!

two miles in the rain at the track while my daughter was at soccer tryouts.  Then thought about doing the workout I ended up doing on Tuesday.  lasted only two in the pouring rain as I stopped to talk to parents about tryouts too much.  Ran two  400s in 1:36 and 1:37 trying to hit a 6:40 pace ended up with a 6:24-28 pace.    Was going to run 16 and could have if I wasn't distracted.

12.5 hour very busy shift in the level 2 nursery.  so tired when i got home but could not fall asleep.  got a race bib from a friend who couldn't run the hobble creek half but the closer it got to race start the more guilty i felt.  i mean the race bible is quite strict.  they really should just charge people 15 dollar change fee.  Doesn't take that much to change a name.  I know I wasn't the only one.  Anyway didn't fall asleep until 1230 then alarm went off at 4:28 am.  I had taken 1/2 a muscle relaxant that makes you sleepy so felt very tired when the alarm went off--tired like drugged tired.  But it was that or not even sleep a wink.  I have been dealing with insomnia for a long time.  My mind just races and races.  Grrrr....so... read tomorrow for details...

Holy flip!! what am I doing????  I felt so drugged from the soma when Kim picked me up.  Kim was like "I slept awesome"   Yay that always makes me feel great.  Wish I didn't struggle so.  It wasn't nerves.  It is just plain old insomnia.  And knowing the alarm is gonna ring at 430am does not help.  So at the start I was so tired my kidneys were in overdrive....I had to pee several times.  Since I had a friend's bib (a guy)...I began to feel more and more guilty as I had read the race bible just yesterday afternoon.  Lots of "better nots" about the race.  So needless to say I was not relaxed at all.  Kim and I were supposed to run together. I had a feeling due to her no speed work this week and her great sleep she was gonna feel pretty good and surpass our goal of easy running it in 1:35 (she ran 1:28:30).  She had invited me Thursday's run to join her and the gang (Jane came in THIRD!! Melanie in FIFTH :D).  Today was not in my plans and I so wanted to bail the moment the alarm went off.    I felt out of body the whole run. Anyone taken soma before??? well it was still in my system and usually stays in me for 24 hours.  The first half of the race I was at 45:08!!!(6.55 miles)  so about 6:48 ap.  Nice work and then mentally I checked out.  I was seriously dead tired so  I walked the hills and through water stations.  At mile 12.3 (hey I was gonna quit at mile 9, then it was 10 and then it was 11...  so to 12.3 was a miracle).  Yup I just jogged over to the side of the road and washed my body in a sprinkler.  Ahhhhh felt so lovely and refreshing.  I took off my bib and ran the rest of the way on the opposite side of the street passing the turn to the finish until my watch read the full half marathon.  1:33:30 most likely if I kept my turtle like speed I was keeping for the last five miles....yup from 8-13 I ran an avg pace of 7:43.   Good thing it felt like a 10:00 pace and not a 6:45.  My friend Jessica passed me at mile 11.4.  She looked strong.  Awake!     Basically no more soma for me 6 hours before I race.  Better to get no sleep then to feel like a graveyard.    All in all this being my first race since St George marathon 2014 i feel a few more races will get me in the groove.  So far this year I have paced four races--Salt lake marathon (3:25), Goldilocks half (1:39), Deseret news marathon (3:45) and the midnight half (1:50--- the hardest of all of them!!humid and too late for my tired brain in 100 degrees).   Made it right under all of the times by one minute except the slc marathon when I bonked and had to rely on my companion to finish on time.  I was ill prepared and really wanted the 3:35 pace gig (I managed to run 3:33:01) and somehow landed at the faster spot.  didn't train well.  Only one 18 miler.  crazy. PLUS-- um my mileage is up to twice what i have been doing. Havent run this many miles in a LONNNNNNGGGGGG time!!

picked up one car at shop then drove to hubby's place of work and exchanged cars and went to drop of said car in af repair shop.  ran to vasa gym...warm up 1.6 miles,no garmin (used course tool).  Warmed up one mile on TM--started at 6.7 mph and went up by o.1 mph every 0.1 miles.  Then when at a mile ran 6 miles at st george marathon pace (not flat course marathon pace, he he).  Reality check here.  Anyway I ran 7:13 x 2, 7:08 x 2 (1 percent through 3.5 miles) then fifth mile at 7:03 and last mile 7:03 until last 0.3 miles when I increased the pace several times until at 9.3 mph I believe (6:27 pace for the last 0.1 miles).  Talked with Jane and Jenny for 20 minutes. Then  ran outside 0.75 miles until my mom picked me up. I was starving so I called for a ride home. Obviously I would have made it since I only had 1.25 miles more to my house.  But I sweated so much it wasn't too wise.  I DID NOT STOP THE ENTIRE SIX MILES AT MARATHON PACE :D. 2 mile warmup 1% incline.  Easy.  8:49-8:27.  Then stretch and water.   Then 0.1 miles easy before 8 x 1000meters at 10k pace (6:31x 6, 6:27 x1, 6:22 x1)- most likely I would be  slower in a 10k but that is so much slower than I used to run 1000 meters HOWEVER this workout calls for ONLY 30 seconds in between sets of jogging---6mph, 10 pace.  First four done in 19:35 including warmup for 0.1 miles (2.86 miles). Got off mill and potty and water (two and 1/2 minute break, necessary for the SOUL).  Next four in 19:35 (2.88miles).  Warmup for 0.1 miles was slower.  I got distracted for a moment because after two I needed more water and when I got back to the mill a guy took my mill under the fan.  Not that the fan was felt much.  I was dripping sweat.  1.26 mile cooldown. Nice and easy. Avg probably 8:40.  Jane was running 2 x 20 minutes with 15 min jog in between. We ended pretty close to each other so that was cool.

2 mile warmup similar to Monday.  Just more increases in second mile to 8:12 pace.  same 1% incline.  Then stretch and water.  Plan 3-2-3  lactate threshold run at half marathon pace (6:48-6:53? on a utah course with actual rest and no sleep medications four hours before the race or intense speed work three days before and a 13 hour out of control busy shift the day before).  Ran first three at 6:53.   Four minute break..talking away with a friend and lost track of time (supposed to be 3 min rest).  Just stood there.  No running.  Then 6:53, 6:49.  First set I talked the entire time.  Then my friend left so I put on my music and ran the two.  It was nice to know I was only doing two in the middle.  Five minute rest.  When I got water my mill was almost taken but instead the lady went right beside me which was nice of her but  sadly she had on wayyyyy too  much hair spray so I had to  go a row back to avoid a headache.  So this took extra time with a potty break in there.  Last three miles-- 6:53, 6:48, 6:48.    1/2 mile cooldown. nice and easy. Fan by treadmills not working and it is super humid out so  I was quite the sweaty mess.  Soaked every area of my clothes.  Is this normal????  or am I just out of shape???  I am 9 pounds heavier then 2011!!!!!!! so very fatigued. met up with kim.  her knee killed at one mile so she bailed and ran back home.  bummer.  on my own.  plan for us was to run the murdock half in reverse then turn around at mile 9 for us (we live 1.6 miles from the park it finishes at).  i honestly had and have since i got braces to close my jaw in alignment (teeth are actually straight, good enough) but my jaw won't shut and i have been wearing a TMJ splint for three months.  So.... its this or surgery. and braces won out as it really is an alignment issue.  long story.  anyway it has been three weeks since i got them and i feel major fatigue. hoping i am not allergic to them (i have a copper allergy) but I am going to tough it out and sacrifice running for my jaw. seriously my jaw was in oodles of pain from feb to june when I got splint.  lock jaw with every bite of food.  i couldn't take it.  got a great dr who is helping me tons!! i have had tmj since my early 20s.  just recently completely locking up.  avg pace unknown.  my watched died at mile 7. ran to mile marker 5 of race and turned and ran with 1:45 pacer which just felt hard to me.  seriously i felt so weak.  so i stopped at water stop stood and waited for holly and stephanie.  they kept going.  i started running 30 seconds after they passed.  just jogged for a bit and caught them two miles later.  ran a mile with the winner who ran 44 seconds faster than i did last year--1:33:02 (merri hackett :D).  considering i m 13 years her senior and she is a great runner I feel pretty good about my time last year.  this course is honest !!  EVERY ONE IN UTAH SHOULD RUN IT TO REALLY SEE HOW FIT THEY ARE !  Too many downhill halfs here in good ol' Utah. Love them too but ONCE IN A WHILE go for the difficult!!

2 mile warmup. 1% incline.  8:49 pace then over 0.25 miles I increased pace to 6:53 avg pace to get to the two miles.  Ran 6 x 1 mile repeats at 9.0 mph for first two then 3-5 miles I alternated between 9.0 (6:39 pace) mph and 9.1 mph (6:35 pace) every 1/4 mile.  0 % incline.  Last one done at 9.0 mph to 9.3 mph (6:31).  90 second standing rest in between reps.  HELD to this exactly.  With TM off.  So miles ended up being (TM takes a bit to go from 0 to 9.0mph) 6:44, 6:43, 6:42, 6:40, 6:40 and last one 6:38.    Cooldown mile done in 8:41, 1 % incline.  Then for fun cause I moved by speedy Jane after everyone else left-- I ran  30-35 seconds on/offs at 10.3 mph (5:49 pace).  Basically from TM at zero it would take about 27 seconds to get to 10.3 mph and I would run that until 1 min.  Rest a minute and repeat 7 times (1.12 miles).

words cannot not express the amount of exhaustion I felt yesterday after work---I was in bed from 730pm until the next morning at 7am. Got kids off to school and fell back to sleep at 9-1130am!! still wasted tired.  holy moly.  but forced myself to mill it.   i actually got in the intended workout albeit slower and broken down more than i would have if i didn't feel drugged to the max without drugs.  Ran two miles at 1 % on tm at 8:57-8:27 pace.  Then started 8 mile tempo at 10 secs faster than marathon pace - goal 7:07 marathon pace (fantasy) so 6:58 for tempo but knew my fatigue was too much to even start there so I started at marathon pace 7:08 it was mill can do at 8.4 mph.  Ran a half mile and hopped off in utter zombie fatigue.  Was like "snap out of this Julie"  and started again.  Told myself I could take as many stops as I needed to to get it done.  Went another 1.5 miles at tempo pace of 7:08.  Stopped less than a minute and started again.  Two more miles at 7:08 pace.  Yay finially at 4 miles!!  Next I ran another two miles after a two minute stop to use the bathroom and take in some water--sweat fest in my basement TM room!!   This time I was able to do one at 7:03 the other at 7:08.  Then to mentally do it (the fatigue was intensely in my brain seriously)  I ran 7:03. Stopped less than a minute and another 7:03--a little faster as I picked it up the last quarter mile to 6:35 pace.  Ran 1 cooldown mile in 8:41, 1 % .

worked all day. busy nursery admit shift.  Came home late (stayed an extra hour til 7:15!!) and ate dinner with NO intentions of running....but then somehow I talked my body into it.  AFTER a 13 hour shift on your feet and the stress running is never easy.  Now with food in tummy.  Funny.  Anyway so thankful for my gift from Jane (treadmill).  Got on and just knew I had to go easy as to not lose my cookies or my heart.  Two miles at 8:57, two miles at 8:49, two miles at 8:41....then at six miles followed my plans to run 6x 90 second surges with five minutes in between surges.  NORMALLY with rest and being the morning and this being 8:30 pm....a surge for just 90 seconds sounds doable.  But oh my heavens I was beat!!  Even the five minutes in between was mentally daunting!!  But I persevered....I finished the reps. A couple times (four I think) I stopped the treadmill to rest after the surges.  I surged only to 6:53 pace.  The entire run was at 1 % incline including surgers.    After the surges x 6 and five minutes in between I only had 3 miles to go!!!  So I knew I could finish.  TM turned over at 100 minutes (11.7 miles)..didn't know it would do that.  So was confused.   But I just started the time over and the other information still stayed on the TM...wow that was cool.  So finsihes the last 2.3.  FiNALLY.  AP 8:32.  Glad that is over.  Now I can't sleep as I type this at 2 am and have to be at work in three hours.  I got super nauseated and had to take tums.  I nearly threw up but that passed with the tums.  I don't think my body liked running at night.

yay hit 500 miles on my kinvaras albeit with holes on the top!! Anyway...sleepless night as usual for me these days but frustrating.  Awoke to alarm (did sleep 3.5 hours so technically not sleepless)at 3:42am. Drove up to Cotton Wood Heights.  Got on second bus to the top of the start of the half.  Ran 3.5 miles then another .37 before the race (ap 8:35).  Ran up and back down in the pitch black avoiding buses heading up for the start of the marathon.  It was very cold up there and this was wise in order to wake my body and warm it.  I got up there at 525am and the race starts at 6:45am.   Well met up and met my pace partner along with hanging with pace group for a moment.  We were unaware how close it was to start time apparently. NO announcement and the race was started before we even knew it.  I still had my race bag with me so ran off back in the area of the second loading truck a quarter of a mile away.  I came back and noticed the race had started.  I was in shock.  At mile one I passed the 2:00 pacer.  I was passing tons of people sprinting down the mountain not ready at all to be running faster than goal 1:30 pace.  I had put my watch in average pace mode which turned out to help me (as later when I noticed I had run a 5:59 and 6:09 mile for miles 5 and 6) .  Had I seen these paces I would have assuredly inwardly be anxious about how fast I was running and immediately slow down.  I pretty much ran by feel.  Paces were--6:52, 6:42, 6:41, 6:23, 5;59, 6:09, 6:31 (shoe came untied, hard to stop when flying and hard to start rolling again but it happened), 6:14, 6:36, 6:52,  Intentionally slowing or for sure I would be in at 1:26...7:30, 6:54, 7:25, and 0.17 at 7:14 pace ( realized I was close to 1:27 but too late in this noticing...but it wasn't a race for me) .  Basically I cheered anyone I could on the way down...chasing my pace partner who incidentally is in the results right next to my name (she ran 1:27:50).  13 seconds apart in chip time although I started 3.5 minutes after her!! ha ha.  I passed the 1:40 pacers at mile 4 and was trying my hardest to catch Melissa but apparently she too was flying fast.  Anyway....last year I ran it perfect.  I thought arriving early I would be even more perfect.  Totally bummed.  But wow I got a good work out.  Ran 3 miles after race at 8:38 ap.

work for Taunya while she is Hawaii.   Wish I was.  ha ha.  long 12.5 hour shift.  no run.  pretty fatigued every day.  shingles and braces not a good combo.  shingles are a small patch on my rib cage of like 10-12 blisters that have diminished 30 -40 percent since they showed up a week ago monday.  nerve pain down arm and shoulder but relieved more and more since Josse massaged my shoulder.  Thought shingles were really from a leaf I squatted by up at Big Cottonwood....but six days later I talked with two drs at work and they feel it is shingles.  You can't catch shingles but can catch chicken pox from shingles if you were never vaccinated and you actually physically touch the  tiny blisters if weeping but mine havent as I have had them covered and pasting on calamine lotion.  It is the fatigue and burning pain down my arm that is ridiculous. but very improved today.   was bad yesterday.

I feel like I have mono again from when I had it in 2003....or it is the shingles? the rash is still the same maybe 30 percent decrease in brightness of blisters since a week ago monday.  Burning pain in my right arm and random areas in my rib area on right side...  the fatigue is also like when my ferritin level was 5.  Like so massively fatigued.  But I am best right when I wake up so I decided to run at 648am.  Ran scheduled run (I have been skipping a lot of these runs due to working long shifts and fatigue so I gotta get back on the schedule for the last week).  1 mile warm up and 2 x 2.5 miles at goal marathon pace.  Which at this point is like maybe 7:45 but I ran them at 6:58 first mile 6:53 second mile and 6:49 last half mile.  Felt like I was dying so opened the window rested three minutes like I was supposed to...then  started up and felt like I could not do it again.  Stood there.  Probably another three minutes and decided to do at my real goal I had for myself before braces and shingles-- 7:07 avg pace for saint george.  Ran first mile at 7:08, second mile at 7:03 and last 1/2 mile at 6:58.  Felt better but still like no way in this year was this gonna happen.  I feel so confined with these braces and weak. Like SuperMan and kryptonite.  Julie and nickel titanium falls to her death like coma fatigue.    But I was tired of my jaw not closing and locking in pain if  I tried that I had to do something rather than complain the rest of my life.  I may even need jaw surgery near the end to get my jaw better aligned. I am considered a class III orthdontic bite which if very hard to fix but can be fixed.   And braces are not freeing.  They tie me down.  So I sacrifice this running year to a good jaw in the future for the last part of my years on this earth.  Crazy but true.  My body is so stressed from the change I got shingles.  ha ha . YAY.    I must add this was done on my home treadmill which was jane's tm for many years up until a month ago.  She verified that sw on her mill is harder than at vasa gym.  PHEW!!  also I ran warmup mile in 8:30.  Cooldown in 8:53.  wiped out.  carpool as soon as I was done.  hanging with my mom.  love having her around.  :D.

west jordan park while girls at soccer training at park. ran around park at 3:15pm.  HOT, HUMID, wind.  3 mile warmup.    Ran 8 x 3 min at Marathon pace. Forgot watch.  Ran a loop that I guessed was one mile.  It was slightly over after I course tooled it.  Like 1.03.  Ha ha.  Ran at what I guessed was marathon pace and felt like death.  They were at about 6:49 pace after course tooling distance with time.  Walked the two minute rest.  Drove back to PG and ran the two mile cooldown on grass at amber's soccer practice with her team.  About 9 minute pace.   So not wanting to run Saturday. Think my goal will be 3:20 to 3:30.  Just to finish.

Best St George Marathon for me except for when I qualified in my first marathon (St George 1995) for Boston 100th race.  But even then this felt easy.  A simple training run with no stress.  Ate right, fueled right, played it right for me.  With by over half the usual training I do for St George (one 20 miler) followed by weeks at at time at 20 miles in a week  I feel very good about coming out of this race feel awesome.  I must have run this just above lactate threshold as after the race I could walk and jog up and down stairs to our condo without muscle fatigue and today (Sunday) walking normal down stairs with just a little stiffness.  Seriously LITTLE.  Anyway, two salt tabs before the race and a mineral tab.  Never have taken these in a race. Kim gave them to me the night before.  STep back....drove down to sg with Kim, Chandi, Jane and Jenny (in Jenny's cozy car).  Got in sg about 2pm. Went to expo for an hour then to costco to shop and buy pizza to go with our spaghetti and special sauce Jane made and a salad kit from costco. Slept from 930-1230 well.  Woke to potty.  Back to sleep til 430am.  To busses at 455am---well drove to busses then.  Up at start at  545am.  One hour before race.  Nice and cool up there. No nerves.  Because I knew I could run whatever I wanted and it DID NOT MATTER to me.  I was so glad to know that and feel that.  I had no plans except if some magic happened and training that I didn't do led to a weirdly speedy performance  I would take that but I knew deep down I didn't train for that and I had no energy all summer to train for that.  I have been busy with lots of things emotionally. It wasn't in my cards this year.  Shingles, braces and cancer (my mom) took their toll.  Obviously the cancer was the worst of it all.  Just a fight I didn't think I had to fight for my mom.  Anyway..with garmin in average pace mode the gun went off (Kim wanted to keep me in the elite corral....grrr she would not let me go back where I knew I belonged..They did a staggered start so it was hilarious when I was jogging in the elite corral and the next group "chased" me down and the next group after that.  Ha ha . However I am pretty sure I passed several hundred back by the finish.  Last note before I write paces--- I feel awesome.  Heart never taxed.  Stingers (honey type gu made by stinger) taken at 2 miles, 9miles, 16 miles and 23 miles.  Salt tabs (2) at half after two at start with a mineral tab as well at start. Then I alternatively took water and gatorade at water stations.  Threw a lot of water over my head not that I was hot but to wake me up since I DON"T take A SINGLE mg of CAFFEINE.  YUP NONE!!  1:41:04 first half. 1:37:xx second half.

sprinting in the airport to catch flight counts for something.  phone left at security and flight was at end of terminal.  so lots of sprinting back and forth.  yup last one on the flight.  everyone already in their seats.  but hey we had to wait 50 min for deicing of the plane so it was a hurry up and wait kind of deal.

easy run on tm at hotel in phoenix.  this tm is way off.  i push in 7mph and it reads 11.3 miles per hour so I just ran for time at usual mph regardless of how the pace read.  at 9ph I was at an astounding 14.3 mph.  so obviously not.  and I was at 8 miles in less that 43 min.  ha ha.  so  I ran 70 minutes.
