| PM- first run post-Lasik. Didn't want to sweat much so did afternoon treadmill run. Wanted 4-6, but felt ok so chugged out 7 miles as just under 8 min pace.
I'm leaving tomorrow for a week in Switzerland. 2 days sightseeing in Lucern and Zurich, then work till Thursday in Baden. It's my first time there and I'm really looking forward to it. Switzerland and the Alps are probably my number one top dream vacation.

| No run, but arrived in Zurich this morning and took a train to Luzern, where I spent all day walking around. Since I only slept one hour on the redeye flight here, I was pretty exhausted by the end of the day. Awesome town, though.

| World's steepest cog train up Mt. Pilatus. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and rainy at the top, though the clouds lifted for a few minutes for me to see one valley. On a good day, you can see much of the Alps from here, including the Eiger and Jungfrau. Did a fair bit of hiking then took the gondola down. Eventually took train into Zurich for more sightseeing, Ended up in Baden by the evening for work over the next few days.

| AM- very early morning run in Baden, Switzerland. Fortunately, sunrise is 5:30 am. Found a nice trail that ended up being incredibly rocky and slow going, so only did it for less than a mile. The rest of the road was a combo of trails, gravel road, and tarmac. I think I did 60 minutes, about 6 miles.

| AM- more Baden miles. 70 minutes today. Kept getting lost from my intended route and bailed out by my iPhone and my hand map. Also took some pictures. Never stopped the watch. Hilly, very hilly. I think I ran ran 7 or 8 miles.

| AM- Another 5:30 am run, my longest yet. Found a delightful forest with lots of gravel roads and beautiful singletrack on a hill/mountain. Wonderful. Only saw a couple people the whole time. Looking at a map, I can take this network of trails unbroken almost to Zurich. It's been generally rainy the whole time, but still so much fun. 80 minutes, 8 or 9 miles. I found a big concrete bunker at the junction of two gravel roads- I can't envision it being anything other than a WWI or WWII bunker. Cool.

| AM- last Switzerland run before long flight home. Another network of trails on a mountain, plus some road. Only did an hour, about 6 miles.

| AM- I had been up almost 24 hours straight when I went to bed at 9 pm last night. Woke up at 1:40 am (7:40 am Swiss time) and never got back to bed. Worked, read, then went running sometime before 5 am. Dark and quiet, watched the sun rise. First mile was 7:30 and second was 7:00, and I never slowed down from there. I felt great, which was a surprise given all the Swiss food I ate and how little I slept the past week (4-5 hours per night, on average, sometimes only 1-2). Nice temps, though it will be warm the next week (high of upper 90's, low's around 70).

| AM- Marci, the inlaws, and kids 1-3 are going to Atlanta for a few days, so I'm working from home while watching the two youngest. Fortunately, our gym membership includes free babysitting (particularly nice as the high today is upper 90's). I did 9.5 miles before I ran out of time.

| Lunch- Holy Hot, Batman. Easily the hotest, most humid run of the year so far. As Jim said, you know it's hot cause the whole back of my shirt was sweaty (I sweat very little, even on hot days). Almost 80 minutes.

| I had to option of running by myself midday outdoors in humid 95 deg temps, or running on a treadmill and watching Eurocup soccer game. I can report that Northern Ireland won their first game in major tournament play since 1984.

Lunch- Hot, humid day. First ultimate frisbee since my Lasik. It was overly crowded with 9 on 9, which led to lots of blocked passes (I took a hit on the shin and elbow). Even game until we started our official, "first to 3 wins" at the end. My team won 3-0. Then we played again, 3-0 again. Sweet.

| AM- sleep issues continue. Took me 3 hrs to fall asleep at 12:30, then woke up at 3:30.
Run was very slow, 8 min pace or so. 9 miles. Listening to Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast series on WW1. It's about 24 hrs of details on WW1. Interesting, yet horrific. I'm very opposed to war, and this podcast is just reinforcing that. So many senseless deaths.

| AM set up the 2 mile race course for scout camp, then ran. We had 2 leaders about about 8 boys, plus me. One of the boys hung on for the first mile, then dropped off. I won, so no one collected on my promised reward of eating first for beating me.

| AM- ran from scout camp up the Mt Mitchell trail to meet the YM high adventure group finishing their 3 day backpacking trip. Passed all of them, kept going up, then passed most of them again on the way down. 8.2 miles, 2 hours. The trail is pretty dang technical for much of the distance. It gained 2700 ft in 4 miles, which is probably more vertical than I've had in a month since Western. My quads were sore by halfway down but held out ok till the end. Sore for a number of days afterwards. If I start doing trail races again, I'll definitely have to toughen them up. Good trail, I miss trails.

| 4 miles river trail loop before leaving scout camp. Great trail, lots of fun- it was on the NC Mountains to Sea trail for a bit. Makes me miss running in the mountains so much. I wish I lived right next to some trails, if would definitely reinvigorate my running.

| Lunch 6 slow, painful miles while Aaron recapped his recent trip to Finland and Estonia. Then an hour of ultimate. It was very hot and humid and I suffered accordingly.

| No run. Sick/tired, so much so that I had to go take a nap in my car within an hour of arriving at work. I've been running on fumes since I left for Switzerland, and it finally has hit me full on. Came home from work 3 hours early and just slept. Still tired.
