2.9 sizzling (I don't mean fast) miles at Lake Park during the lunch hour 35 minutes. Smeagol didn't do himself any favors by running inside on the treadmill.

1 hour hiking with the scouts in Dry Creek Canyon.

5k race at Centerville. I ran with Christina and Cami. Tracy1 was there with Renae (does she blog?) Saw Smeagol with his brothers and Lauri with Krash Man. It was lots of fun -- didn't race seriously. Did it in about 36 minutes.

1 Mile GP 10:39. That's a new fastest mile time; must be the new Sauconys.

9 miles hiking in Zion narrows with Smeagol and two other guys. Amazing!

The shuttle wasn't running that day due to heavy rain the night before, so we left Smeagol's vehicle back at Springdale and the four of us drove to the top of the Narrows in my Toyota Corolla.

Had to take a few test runs to get through heavy mud. Needed to be careful not to drive off some slippery mud cliffs. Passed some stuck 4-wheel drive vehicles. Had to unplug some German tourists from the road so we could pass. They offered us beer for our efforts but we declined -- it would seem incongruous to imbibe after being spared so many potential mis-haps by powers unknown, just before descending into one of the Almighty's finest galleries.

The next day, the shuttle also refused to take tourists up, so we had the whole canyon to ourselves. Spectacular! Didn't see any rain but heard there were flash-flood warnings after the fact.

7 Miles Hiking in Zion Narrows. 2 straight days of this made me plenty sore and walking like a duck. We were in water 35% of the time. Since it was so muddy, we couldn't see the rocks and had to carefully pick our way using hiking poles as blind sensing sticks. Very slow progress in some places and mentally fatiguing to negotiate the water falls, mud pudding, log bogs and other obstacles. Good cross training and lots of fun, but not recommended the accident prone.

Got home at 2 am from the Narrows.

upper body and abs workout plus 2 miles running on the treadmill just to try to work out the soreness from hiking. Legs feel great. Maybe I'll still do that 18 mile hike on Friday night.

18 mile hike on timpooneke trail. I left at midnight and used the full moon to light my way. (I had flashlights too for the parts in shadow) I got to the summit just as the sun was rising. Of course my superhero sheep dog made it too.

After a 3 hour nap I weighed myselff -= down 10 lb from May 1. That's the least I've weighed since 1997. That means I can go get a chubby melt at Copper River in West Valley City with Smeagol -- but let's wait until after the Provo 1/2.

Race: Deseret News 10K (6.2 Miles) 00:01:09

DeseretNews 10K.

Time: 1:09, just over 11 minutes per mile. I'm really happy with that time, even though I didn't achieve my 10K goal. It is about a 10 minute improvement over last year. Yeah! So in an attempt to avoid complacency I will say that cutting 10 more minutes off for next year should be easily within reach.

I ran with 3 friends from work: Ben, Smeagol and Steve. They all liked the race and seemed to be looking forward to running it again next year. I saw Christina and a couple of her running friends Jodi and Char (sp?) They also seemed happy with their times.

DesNews 10K is a great race. Good treats at the end and so fun to watch the Marathoners come in. Running conditions were much better than last year (less humidity).

That's the 4th time I've hiked it this year. Jeez!  I took Sage again. This time, she seemed a little warn out at the end. I think the heat got to her. I saw a couple of trail-runners going up hill. Totally nuts! Hope I'm that nuts some day.

Upper Body Workout. I tried a few different exercises that were in the Body For Life book like the bench-dips. I have heard that Coach Bill doesn't like step-lunges nor ham-string curls. So I avoid them but what about the ham-string exercise where you lean forward with dumbbells, then pull back, keeping your back straight. Is that one ok? Or in other words, what Hamstring exercise, if any, is recommended?
