I did not get up and do a morning run because I still felt kind of stiff from Saturday. So after work I pushed and pulled out 6 miles and back home. I've had better runs, thats for sure. Kind of stiff, and half way through I got dehydrated in the heat. Lost 6lbs of fluid in that one run. I have a pretty good scale and was 161.0 (in the buff) before the run and 155.0 after. I like droping pounds but not like that. It's the time of year where I need to start stashing water along the course so I can hydrate myself.

6 lbs in one run, that's crazy. It's good to see you got out and you're able to put the miles in after the Half.

When I was living back in Sacramento, CA I had a coach, Al Baeta told us during the summer months (90F+ heat) to always carry a water bottle with us and sip-it during the day and measure our hydration by making sure our urin always clear.

I've dropped about 5 pounds on the run before on a hot day, and looking at me you would wonder where I found those 5 pounds to drop. Nothing to worry about, unless you felt bad after the run. Also note that dehydration is not your only enemy in the heat - you can lose electrolytes. Good work on keeping up the mileage.

Actually being able to drop 5 pounds on the run might be a good sign, especially if you felt decent at the end - the body might be learning to stash extra water.

Thanks guys for the info. I felt good considering... It wasn't a big deal I've done it before. The only thing that made this unique was that I hadn't drank much all day prior to the run, and in effort to see how low I could go on the scale I didn't drink anything before I got off the scale after the run. It was just a pride thing. Stupid, I know.

lets try this again. I decided to buy a camel back last summer and use it on the long runs. It takes a little getting use to. but i think it helps. very important to keep hydrated out there. you did great in the half last weekend. have a good trip to new york.
