8.5 miles in the a.m.

I know it sounds like a lot at this point but broken up into two runs 10 hours apart takes the sting out of it.

I'm starting to feel a lot better. My run on Monday felt like maybe a 3 out of 10 and I'd say todays runs were a 7 and a 8.5 respectively.

My only issue is a sore ankle that I rolled on Mondays run. I need to ice it and it should be good to go.

Clyde - I made a similar mistake in my training right after St. George in 2003 to the one you are making now. You think I would have learned, but I managed to get started in the same direction this year after DesNews. Fortunately this time, my frequent control tempo runs have detected the problem, and I was able to make the necessary adjustments to avoid a complete disaster.

It is ok to train hard after a marathon, but even if you feel good you should not do it quite full-throttle. There is some hidden damage that takes a couple of months to heal.

In your case, I would recommend 8+4 schedule as a rule, with a couple of tempo runs a week always on the same course that are long enough to discover problems, but short enough to not overtrain you. For me, 3 miles works very well.

I agree with Sasha. I know you excited about your past marathon results. Back off a little and enjoy. It is hard because your peaking right now and you want to keep it up, But an injury would set you back 2 months or more! from the mouth of two or more witness.... contain the beast within until race day. on that day woman will scream, children will cry and men will groan at your very site:):)
