1:29:13 Thanks to the great company (Amy, Mark, Brad, and Steve) the slushy/muddy conditions were barely noticeable. The Hammy was just okay. OUr course was very rolling. so that aggravated it a bit. Overall a decent run, although it felt like a lot more than 13 miles. We started out attempting the trail, and our first mile was like 9min. That skewed our overall time. we had several miles at 6;40ish pace, and 3 sub 6:30's... We had to have averaged 6:30 something for miles 2-12! Check amy's log for the actual stats.

BTW... I'm despite the rumors on Drudge Report (teehee) I'm not dead, slacking, or on the campaign trail!  I'm lazy, and was "let go off" on Monday....So now I am a stay at home mom...

5 min on 2 off
5x 2min on 1min off
5 min on

27:00 min for fartlek 4.8 miles covered =5:37 pace

felt pretty good. I felt like I didn't push hard enough, like I was just coasting. I do so much better when I do these with someone else. It pisses me off when I just settle in like that! I was pretty surprised, when I did the map of this run, to discover the distances. I think I underestimate myself a lot of the time. Maybe that's why I coast? However, I must say it is nice to be running this fast no matter what! And this was a short fartlek!

Fartlek today.  7.8 miles in 45 min.  (5:46 permile) on the treadmil this time.  extremely boring, but incredibly accurate.  When there's 9 inches of snow on the ground and no seems to shovel, and every road is well traveled, well what else can you do?  this is my new 10k pr. haha.  all the Chocolate Chip cookies I pigged out on decided to stay put in my intestines which was nice of them.  What great little helpers!

aw man this run was brutal.  I felt terrible, and I was running (again) on the treadmill in Jenny's basement.  the workout was 15min easy 4x 5min hard 2min easy 15min cooldown.  I ended up running 58 minutes and change covering 9miles in all.... the low down.  I felt awful, but the goals was to run hard and make it hurt.  I was successful in that aspect.  I did not back off when it was really really hard... even if the times don't show it.

Warm up 15 min. 2.15 miles

set 1: pace 5:36

set 2: pace 5:36 (ran upstairs... GI issues... no success)

set 3: pace 5:33

set 4: pace 5:27 (this one was tough.  I wan't sure I was going to still be "clean" at the end)

ran upstairs... SUCCESS! Jenny's house smelled really bad, I was embarassed, but hey every runner's been there right!  When I came back down the treadmil had shut itself off... dangit

Cool down 16ish minutes. (some of it was after set 4) 2.38 miles.

I didn't know whether to call this a fartlek or intervals. I guess it was more a fartlek....

I just realized I mucked it up! OOPS! SORRY JENNY

2x 1 mile (supposed to be 2 mile that's where I screwed up) @ 10k effort- jog 2min recovery between. after the second mile:  jog 3min and 1mile HARD.

#1 5:38 (I thought that was suspiciously easy!)

recovery was at 6:48 pace (2min)

#2 5:36 (again I thought "Wow this is an easy workout... and short. hummmm oh well la te da good for me.)

1.5 min recovery @ 6:48 pace (1.5 min run to potty to you know.  Which hard to do when you are breathing hard!)

#3 5:15

great workout. But now that I'm home and I realize that I pretty much only did half of it I feel completely cheated. Now I will never know what that last mile really would have been! I may have to run a tempo on sat to feel better about myself. REv. dimmsdale you got nothing on me (obscure literary reference.... keeps it lively)

Right shin still humming in the back ground "hey, Pssst it's me. Down here, do you feel me... I'm gonna haunt you!"

wind chill was 9 degrees. I pushed willem on this one. those rolling hills and his 44lbs are a workout now! He slept for the majority of the run.... Cutie he said, "mom, ahh dose peoples weoww fink Iz dust bankets won't dey. Dey weoww say, 'hey ders no boy in der. der's dust bankets" hahahahhahahaha he's so cute! decode that speech impediment I dare you!

shins were better. They only twinged 9 times the whole run, and the twinges have down graded from concerning to annoying.

I don't know the time for this one.  The footing is awful!  It snowed almost the entire time, which was kind of nice (on the eyes).  I ran 9 with Rob and Brad, then the adventure ensued.  I only count 2 of the 4+ miles as running miles....

I thought the club was doing a 2.5 mile fun run.  I decided to take the boys on that so Casey (hubby) could run with the serious group.  Well it was 2.5 out...2.5 back.  Will (4) ran 2 miles, I discovered he has a bit of a sprinters stride.  He brings his heel to his rear with EVERY stride...  I sent Cooper (7) with Dave because he has run 2 miles before so I thought he'd make the "2.5" no problem without hindering daves run (due to the conditions cooper 8:30 pace would've been suitable.  Cooper ran 4 miles..  WOW!  I carried will on my back and ran or walked much o the way back.... I got help carrying Willem for about 1 mile.... Lets look at the boys physiques....

Willem 40 inches and 40-44 lbs of muscle (depends on clothing and how full his belly is)

Cooper 48.5 inches and 45-49 lbs. of bone...

That evening the four of us went to a Christmas Party with our running friends.  I couldn't figure out why I was being anti-social and crabby.  I had taken a nap.  When I got in the car on the way home I felt it.  My shoulders  began to ache.  By the time I got home my eyes were watering.  I HAD BEEN IN PAIN.  A lot of pain and was just distracted.

Well, what can you say. I found a disc battery in willem's nose this morning, while I was getting Cooper ready for school. I know it's been in there since sunday. He suddenly got stuffy sunday and since he's asthmatic I didn't think too much of it until he said, "maybe I'm stuffed up because of the battawee I stuffed up mines nose." I freaked and looked in there and didn't see anything. Then he said, "MOmmy it felled out of mines nose and went under da bed". Then he took me in his room and showed me. Sure enough a disc battery was under his bed. Thought nothing of it monday when brown mucus was oozing out of his nose, the kid gets bloody noses all the time. then This morning I was going to try and remove some crusties from his nose. I had him blow a little, and then used the flash light and tweezers and hit something hard, Instead of crying he winced. If that was his septum he'd have screamed. I sprayed saline in there looked again and sure enough there was the edge of something shiney. I pulled it out and it was VERY corroded. I tried not to freak to much. I did a neti rinse with warm water, and decided to wait it out. Took him to the emergency room after he layed down on my bed and went to sleep and I couldn't get him to eat (9:30am).

at the emergency room He just layed motionless on the cot for most of the day. While we were there I noticed that the draninage had left a red, irritated trail down his upper lip as well as a couple of very small blisters. Can we say battery acid. They almost let us go home until they took his temp and it was 102. We were admitted at 3pm. Frankly I was a little relieved. Casey got off of work early, brad wife picked up cooper from the bus stop (those are awesome friends).

I left willem for about 10 min. When I went to get casey from the train station. AS I walked back into t he room will was trying to take out his IV. He was too tired and weak to accomplish the task thank goodness. He sure is strong WILLed. It was a long day and a longer night. NO run today.

I just got back from the hospital! it's 8pm. I got no sleep last night and had the weirdest day ever. Will is doing much better. He took a 5 hour nap today which bothered me, but he's not running a fever anymore. Even though will's not incredibly sick I found myself to be weepy today, which is pretty out of character.

Casey came to the hospital right after Cooper got on the bus. He then went home to eat lunch and shower and surprised me by bringing my running stuff to the hospital. He layed it down and said, "Annie, go run. Get out of here" So I did. I made it half a mile and started to cry. All of the sudden I felt so vulnerable, I never do well with that. Then my lack of control over willem's situation overwhelmed me. I turned around and ran back to shelley's house and stood in her shower and cried. I wasn't worried that willem was going to die or anything, just upset that he had to be sick. Mad at myself for the situation (which wasn't my fault but a mother's guilt isn't logical), for being upset that I didn't get a run in yesterday(so selfish). Then I felt stupid for being so weak and crying about it, I got really angry at myself. Then I just wanted my mom, more than anything in the world. I wondered, how did she handle it with me. Where did she summon her strength from? My stays were frequent and serious. As a kid, you blow stuff like that off. "Oh I'm in the hospital again, Yipeee that means I get as many popsicles as I want and I cant watch cartoons all day" Kids don't feel the gravity of situations, it just is what it is for them. unlimited cartoons and ice cream, cool presents. Here I'm sniveling over an infection and she had to worry about much more pressing issues, much more frequently, and ususally both her babies were admitted at the same time. What did she do when they thought I had cystic fibrosis, or luekemia? It may have been a fleeting diagnosis, like something off HOUSE, but it would've been devastating to hear. I suddenly understood and respected her fortitude for the first time ever, and I wanted her to be with me and tell me what to do. After all those illnesses she still put me in athletics, because she knew they'd make me stronger, and they did! That alone took a lot of strength. I can't imagine the slack she got for that! She is my hero.

Needless to say I ran 1 mile today.

I just talked to my mom. oddly enough she said she was in a funk all day today. She knew she was worried about will but said she couldn't pin point the source of her dark cloud. When I told her how much I wanted her today she started bawling, and said, "that is it. That's what was pulling at me all day" Of course Casey chalked it up to estrogen. He needed sisters, or nieces or a daughter or something.

my shin was fine (sore after). It took me 4 miles to loosen up, and me to feel "normal". I was just totally fatigued. I'm glad I was conservative and kept it at 6. I ran the loop Casey "found" and enjoyed it. I found an Ice rink! that could be fun... maybe this year I can learn to let go of the wall!

Went to the E.N.T. MD... Looks like the battery did eat through Willem's septum. There's not much we can do, other than make sure the isn't further damage of the area. Impressively enough Willem hasn't complained once. Not even a groan. He's insanely tough. I'll just be glad when the stress wanes.

This was ROB'S MARATHON PACE (5:40). I had hoped to help him through an entire 5 mile loop. (We cut out the beach hill.) Our first mile together was a 5:34. That felt great. Then into the second mile I just shut down. My body just gave out. It was very frustrating for me, considering I know I can do 5 miles at 5:40 pace (or at least close). I felt very very tired. I puked when I woke up, which was weird. I've been a non-puker ever since my mom made me clean up my own (she'd get sick cleaning it up so we had to clean up our own) Then I had the other kind all day and could eat a thing! Shin's were a non-issue which is great! I made up for the lack of nutrients at Giordanno's late, after I felt better.

Rob was a dominating force I must say. It was impressive & inspiring to watch his stride so easily tackle the workout. He's ready, a force to be wreckoned with! Next time he does this workout I'll be hydrated, and ready to provide full support (as if he needed it)!

It was so freakin' cold! I ran with brad, whose eye lashes froze! The wind gusted so hard, a couple of times, that he and I were practically running in place. When I got home I had to run my fingers under cool water to thaw them out...that was extremely painful. I'm glad I went out. These were some of the worse conditions I've ever run in, the toughness factor was way up there. Oh yeah, I used a garmin for the first time ever. The miles were we were running into the wind we ran 7:50ish. that is awful!

my Piriformis was extremely tight today, probably from the drive yesterday. I ran with casey which was good because it forced me to take it easy. He kept saying stuff like, "you just love to distract me by talking so you can push the pace don't you?" By the time we were done I felt warmed up and the p. was better. I've eatten way way too many cookies!

Did stretching and took 800mg of Ibuprofin. It was much easier to start out. I did 2 two mile loops and then my favorite loop (5.1) Which is a hilly one. 7 miles into this run I stopped to stretch and decided it would be a great idea to dig in to it, you know to massage it. As soon as I let up it went into full borne spasm.

So here I am in deliverance country walking around like quasimoto and all of the cows on my right were staring at me like I was retarded... they may be right. I stopped a second time to stretch and the old man comes out of the house to get some firewood and looks at me all cockeyed and laughs. That felt nice. It was tough getting started again but after about .2 miles I was fine. Unfortunately the llamas weren't out to cheer me up! On the road back into town all the houses were lined up behind a mess of telephone wires. The row of Crumbling shingles, aluminum and asbestos siding, and asymmetrical architecture reminded me of how West Egg must be assembled (from the Great Gatsby).

Huffs 50k Trail RElay race....  Never was able to run "hard".  Much of the trail was single track, hilly, rooted, and rocks were hidden beneath the leaves. Not little rocks either. (my time for 10.8 was 1:14;26

The weather was 32 degrees, course was a nice mix of mud, Ice, and standing water. I had a face first wipe out at mile 4... in 6 inches of water (that was under a quarter inch of ice). That was a fun last 6 miles. I ran very conservatively being careful of my foot placement. Not a bad time considering... and I had a blast and got to get filthy dirty! Company was excellent, Tom Dever, and Tim Fears as well as the Terre Haute North girls and boys teams, we had a total blast. A much needed mental break! It was actually 10.8 and I ran that in 1:14. I took my split at 10 miles and inserted it here, since my only option was a 10 mile xc race. The last .8 was extremely winding, and up hill...

1:11:14 I ran to Brad's house, and we ran around his neighborhood. Seems we were the only two of the crew to miss out on dave's birthday run (poor little us). So we had a party of our own and it was way fun. Too bad everyone else missed out on it! Our laughter was so overwhelming people were coming out of their houses to see what they were missing. Okay not really...
