Pushed cooper in the stroller.  He was aliken to the Flinstone dog in their car.  His head stuck out of the top!  He might possibly be getting to big to ride in the stroller.   We found a wood chip trail.  Pushing the stroller on that surface became a strength workout!  Thank god he got out to run with me!  He kept up too!  speedy little devil he is!

51:06 let me guess this is the range of 6:35-6:45.  Again I felt great.  The sun was out and the trail is beautiful.  I got to keep stride with coopers school bus today for about two blocks!  that was fun.  Now I have to decide whether or not to squeeze in another run between getting cooper off the bus, and picking up Brennan from daycare

Criminy, you train faster than I do!

I'll officially welcome you to the blog. Remember, keep your language "family-safe" or the language-czar will get you. ;-) Heh heh.

From Stacy on Thu, Oct 25, 2007 at 19:46:33

Welcome to the blog! I don't think I even knew that you had two kids. Of course, I only met you that one time. Good luck with your training.

From sarah on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 09:08:49

Okay..dumb question...your name is Annie...your a woman running those times!!! Before I noticed your name I assumed you were a very fast man who was a stay at home Dad. True about the language czar....especially since he is Russian (I'm his wife) but I think he'll find your blog name hilarious...he is a runner you know who happens to be European and have a odd potty humor..especially when it has to do with running because it is so true. Anyway, welcome to the blog. You are the superwoman that I compare myself to when other people tell me I'm amazing for running at all with kids (we have 5).

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 10:54:49

Welcome to the blog! Yes, as Paul and Sarah noted, I am very particular about the language on the site. So while we do have to mention at times about doing business in the woods (in fact, I rarely have a run without it), it does not look good when this becomes a focus of the discussion, and this will happen if this appears in the name of the blog, or the nickname.

Regarding your training. Unless you are a sub-2:20 marathoner, your aerobic runs have been too fast.

There is nothing in your profile - did you run into technical issues? If yes, the easiest solution is to use Firefox. If you do not have it, you can get it from the button on the right of this comment.

From Annie on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 12:30:31

Ohmigoodness! I feel overwhelmed by the welcomings! Thanks guys!

Stacy: I think the boys were at my In-laws when we met! Since I act like a big kid I can see where you got confused ;)

Sarah: Thanks that made me feel good!

Sasha: No I can't add anything to my profile. I'll try firefox. As for Pace, I run on effort. Easy days are to be a gentle effort, the pace is a result of I don't know what? I'll say that my aerobic runs are aerobic according to my heart rate, and my body doesn't seem to mind it either. I think people get way too wrapped up in pace anyway. It's EFFORT! I haven't run a marathon in 6 years so I don't know what I'd run!

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 12:37:32

Annie - how often do you get injured?

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 16:20:46

I suppose you answered my question in your profile. Now this does make sense. You appear to be a very energetic person. So what probably happens is that your judgment of easy pace errs on the high side.

For a comparison - I can run 5:40 pace on a perfectly flat course at 4500 feet in a marathon, 5:30 pace for the half, and 5:20 for 10 K. On the same surface and at the same elevation the pace stops being truly easy for me at around 6:50. I will only run 6:50 if I am alone and bored, and have nothing to think about except my current pace. I am perfectly happy to run 7:20 or even slower if I am having a conversation. Yet I can speed up by as much as a minute per mile, and I would still not hit my marathon race pace.

Your "easy" runs are only 40-50 seconds per mile slower than your 10 K race pace, so for me this would mean 6:00-6:10. This is definitely a sustainable pace, and I could trick myself into calling it easy, but it is not truly easy. It wears down on the nervous system, muscles, and joints while providing no extra benefits in comparison with 7:00 - 7:30 pace. If I were to do this, it would negatively affect my ability to run hard on the hard days, and I would be flirting with injury as well.

You can try an experiment to see if this applies to you - consciously back off on your easy runs, just try to wind down. Maybe throw in a couple of strides, that would calm you down. Then see if this makes a difference on you hard days.

From Annie on Fri, Oct 26, 2007 at 16:49:54

Sasha you are right. I am a bit, shall we say, Hyper. I will run slower if in a group, but even then I can be a bit like the squirrel "Hammy" from "Over the Hedge". I can try it. I was hoping that returning to speed work and tempo's would slow me down a bit... so far no luck though! However, I don't remember having serious injuries of any kind until I had my first son. In high school I frequently ran 7:00 pace and wasn't that "fast".

6.23 @ 37:22 (5:59 pace)

My warm up mile was 6:15 (a lot of it was down hill)

This was a fartlek.  5 on 3 off X 2 (these miles were 5:50 and 5:40 respectively)

2 on 1 off X 3 (I wasn't near mile markers for these)

My cooldown was slower I think again no markers.

This run was great.  It built some confidence, and allowed me to see just how much work I have ahead of me, and it's a lot!  I need to do a lot more tempo runs and fartleks this winter.  I have the gift of speed, but I have to work hard at those continuous runs.  I was able to maitain focus for this whole run which is nice!  I've been out of practice in that arena so it was good to accomplish that again!

4.5 miles in the afternoon.  I pushed Cooper in the Stroller on the trail.  He ate candy and told me about his Halloween parade at school.  He was runner.  actually he was Frank Shorter, he just didn't know it.  I let him wear my Bix 7# with Erin MOeller's e-mail address on it.  I'm thankful he didn't lose it!

Second - How in the world do you finish a half marathon with a broken pelvis? You've got to have one of the highest pain thresholds!

Sarah, you nailed that one! My mom says I was a better mother to her than her own mom. Plus I tried to "kill" my sister several times (I'm 2 years older). But actually I was very sick so my energy level wasn't what it should've been.

From Daniel on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 16:11:46

Welcome to the blog. I just joined myself. Are you the same Annie who ran at Crawfordsville High School in the 90s?

From Annie on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 19:20:05

I plan on running 80 or so a week, and running a "big" race. Jenny and I are discussing which one at the moment. WHat about you?

Daniel, yes I am... and you're last name?

From Paul Petersen on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 20:16:55

I dunno. I'll probably take it easy for a couple weeks after trials (

From Daniel Allen on Sat, Oct 27, 2007 at 21:27:07

My last name is Allen. I ran for Webo at the same time. I figured that if you ran for Indiana State and had a son named Cooper that you must be the famous Annie Cooper from C'ville.

You mean in a jogging stroller? If so, that is a stinkin' long way to push a jogging stroller. Might even be some kind of record on the blog!

Hope you feel better soon!

From annie on Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 12:44:26

Thanks Lybi. yep it's a jogging stroller. I'm lucky my boys like being outside! Will is the blonde one. My hips were so sore and tight afterward! It was a rolling course... I'm in IL so you might consider it flat;) but it still tore up my poor little body. They're getting too big for it! :*(

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 12:44:31

My record is 10 miles. 5 up Hobblecreek Canyon and then back. The stroller had Benjamin in it at the age of about 10 months. So it was not as bad as pushing a 4 year old. Also, I weigh 145 pounds, probably at least 20 pounds more than Annie, which makes things a lot easier when it comes to pushing weight. Never tried a long run with a stroller, though.

From annie on Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 12:56:59

Sasha, don't do it! Just kidding. I have great memories with each of the boys pushing them on long runs. They take snacks and drinks and we talk and sing. They make great training partners. It's making me sad that they are getting so big. I am just not strong enough to do it much longer. I think the pushing (hunching) in combo with Brennan Willem being 9 lbs instigated a lot of my pelvic injuries. I was pushing Cooper while pregnant with Will and just after. long story

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 13:46:18

When they get older they can run on their own. Or at least ride a bike.

From annie on Mon, Oct 29, 2007 at 18:31:47

I've tried the bike with cooper. I didn't work out very well. He's a spaz like me and doesn't concentrate on the task at hand. It's actually proven dangerous. Maybe as he gets older it'll be better.

From annie on Tue, Oct 30, 2007 at 14:05:35

It does. I started doing this in College and it's a huge help for me. It's not for everyone though!

From Sasha Pachev on Tue, Oct 30, 2007 at 14:23:36

For a serious runner with focus, yes, it does take more discipline. However, if this was true for every runner, I would not have compiled the Top Ten Excuses for Missing a Run at the link at the top of this page. All of them collected from this blog.

I do believe in running 6 days a week, though, and for me the day off is Sunday. This has to do with the teachings of the LDS church to avoid heavy exercise on the Sabbath. At first the idea was difficult for me to accept, but I began to do it anyway when I understood the religious principle. Then overtime it began to make sense as I saw the results.

From annie on Wed, Oct 31, 2007 at 20:49:57

Does yours tell you to go faster up the hills too. Last time I let him listen to the Ipod and he was as quite as a mouse for about 5 mins.

From annie on Thu, Nov 01, 2007 at 10:04:23

yes the little one does. We read books, count, do ABC's, and babble about nothing. It's when I stop talking (because I"m tired) and they keep going that I ask for my quiet minute, and of course they don't understand what has changed, and why I can't sprint up the hills!

From Lybi on Mon, Nov 05, 2007 at 18:25:41

Sometimes winter allergies combine with a bug to turn a cold into a couple-of-months-long respiratory catastrophe! I couldn't get over one last year, and finally tried what my friend suggested--taking claritin daily for a couple of weeks. Cleared it up!! If I remember right, there are a lot of inversions this time of year in Utah. Pollution can aggravate and lead to inflamation in the airways--which does nothing to help asthma if you've got it. Good luck!

didn't really keep a watch. My right calf (outer) is really really tight. Anyway, the run was really weird I don't know if was because the Forest guys followed me (in their Cherokee) for two miles on the trail, or because of the lyrics from The Pogues I had rattling around my otherwise empty head? I guess it could've been the juxtaposition of the green grass against the naked trees. Who knows. I just felt really weird mentally today.

Raced the Westchester Veterun 10k.  35:58

This was a great race. Not just time wise, but for race toughness as well. I was able to perform a manual override on that negative little man that starts heckling you when you begin to feel the wear of the race, and I beat that little man too!!!!! I fell asleep during mile 3....but I woke up again and ended up running a negative split. Either the second and third miles splits were off, or I was in a coma instead of just snoozing a bit.

Mile 1: 5:40
Mile 2: 5:30
Mile 3: 6:16  (17:26)
Mile 4: 5:50
Mile 5: 5:45
Mile 6: 5:35  (17:06)
End .2: 1:23 (5:35 pace)

Other than MIle 3, which stinks whether they messed up the markers or not, a pretty solid performance. The course was flat and beautiful, the weather was ideal, and I stayed in the race almost the entire time (Hooray I'm on my way back!). The last .2 my legs were rubberized, and afterwards I had soreness to be expected. I think the negative splits show that I'm ready to run even faster, but the rubberization may have been worse had I not fallen asleep... Who knows? We'll see. Either way this was a nice benchmark test. I'm just gonna keep pluggin' away!

Gasparilla, Some local races (with stiff comp... it is chicago!), the Indy mini, 25k Championships for sure, and possibly Mt. SAC... Jenny and I are going to sit down and hash it out this week. Thanks for the props... I was happy (not satisfied... but happy). This was only my 3rd 10k ever (not counting the Strawberry festival one I ran in 7th grade 41:50 something i think), and I've never run one on the track. I felt like I had definitely made progress in my quest to learn that distance.

From Paul Petersen on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 19:52:10

Are the 25K champships still in Grand Rapids next year? If so, I will probably see you there. I looked at that Gasparilla race and was put off that they only had prize money for Florida locals. What's the deal with that? Other than that, it looked pretty good.

From Annie on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 20:11:21

Yep the 25k is still in G.R. That would be fun! I think the indy mini falls right around there so I may have to scratch that! The whole Gasparilla prize$$ thing made me upset too. I guess it used to be a premier race, but they stopped bringing in elite runners. It is still well respected, and I need a winter race this is the cheapest for me. My in-laws have a condo near there, and a car. My Brother in-law can get me too and from the airport. It basically free except for the plane ticket and I just covered that with my race winnings. It makes the most sense for me, for a winter race. If you want to do it you are more than welcome to use my resources as well. I can see where it wouldn't make as much sense for you though. From Annie on Sun, Nov 11, 2007 at 20:46:30

I was first overall woman. There were some decent women there, from this area. Second place was a mid 37 something. She (Suzanne Ryan) Is training to qualify for the O.T. and is logging 90 miles weeks, just finished Chicago etc. Same story for third (Amy Haney). They still PR'ed. They lack speed for this distance, but are strong at the longer stuff.

Ran a shake out at 7:10 pace with my neighbors greyhound, who got tired!  Somebody is out of shape.  I made up a song after last night...

There were two in the bed and the little one said, "Roll over Roll over"

There were three in the bed and the other little one said, "roll over, roll over"

There were four in the bed and the mommy said, "Scoot over, Scoot over"

There were four in the bed and the mommy said, "Forget it, forget it"

There was one in the bed and a little one said, "roll over, roll over"

There were two in the bed and the mommy said, "Get back in your own bed.  I can't sleep in this twin bed with both of us it's too hot!  I love you though"

There was one in the bed (finally) and the mommy said "ZZZZZZZZZ"

I agree! doesn't it just make your day!

From Sasha Pachev on Fri, Nov 16, 2007 at 13:33:14

Some thoughts on the video. First, spiritual. Good to see a man who has some understanding of why God has given him the talent and what to do with it. We have a lot of people with talent, but not many who know what to do with it. I really liked what he said about success being defined as being the best in the world. Some people will do their best, and will still not win. That does not make them failures. Success means you do your very honest best.

Now technical. Note that he did not use Garmin to measure a distance. He had mile markers painted on the road. Also note that his pace varied by as much as 50 s per mile during his 15 mile tempo, he was checking his splits diligently, but it did not appear to bother him at all. He did not seem to ease off after hitting a 4:44 mile, nor did he seem to make an effort to speed up after hitting a 5:33 mile. While he was recording the numbers, he was running purely by feel. When it was windy he allowed the pace to slow down, when running downhill he allowed it to naturally get faster.

I really liked the combination of technical and spiritual. It worked very smoothly to carry the message.

Willem kept messing with the elliptical even though I said several times that if he did that it would hurt him. Guess what he pinched is fingers! When he cried i said, "WElp, I don't feel at all sorry for you. I told you not to do that, I warned you of what would happen, and you disobeyed me. To bad for you." I know it is from pushing the darn stroller, the kid weighs between 40 and 44 lbs based on whether or not he's eatten recently. He fell asleep at mile 6...(and became dead weight) But he was singing "John the fisherman" and "skip to my lou"... a little primus mixed with a nice all american folk song. Man are my kids warped. Basically I didn't die in the cold and willem was comfy enough to sleep. My bum hurts now but it was nice to be out side.

1:29:13 Thanks to the great company (Amy, Mark, Brad, and Steve) the slushy/muddy conditions were barely noticeable. The Hammy was just okay. OUr course was very rolling. so that aggravated it a bit. Overall a decent run, although it felt like a lot more than 13 miles. We started out attempting the trail, and our first mile was like 9min. That skewed our overall time. we had several miles at 6;40ish pace, and 3 sub 6:30's... We had to have averaged 6:30 something for miles 2-12! Check amy's log for the actual stats.

BTW... I'm despite the rumors on Drudge Report (teehee) I'm not dead, slacking, or on the campaign trail!  I'm lazy, and was "let go off" on Monday....So now I am a stay at home mom...

From Annie on Wed, Dec 05, 2007 at 19:49:32

I don't usually share this kind of stuff with people (as Paul might be able to vouch), but I think I can here. I thought maybe I might be going fast because people's mouths were open, and on my second loop there seemed to be A LOT more people outside, and they were staring too. It didn't click until much much later when I mapped it... "oh, maybe they were staring at me!" It was very cold out and it was 2:00-3:00 on a weekday! What are the odds that there'd be that many people outside? I tend to be so clueless, and truly spastic about that type of stuff. Every PR I think, must've been a short course! For a while my husband accused me of false humility until he realized I reallly didn't know!

aw man this run was brutal.  I felt terrible, and I was running (again) on the treadmill in Jenny's basement.  the workout was 15min easy 4x 5min hard 2min easy 15min cooldown.  I ended up running 58 minutes and change covering 9miles in all.... the low down.  I felt awful, but the goals was to run hard and make it hurt.  I was successful in that aspect.  I did not back off when it was really really hard... even if the times don't show it.

Warm up 15 min. 2.15 miles

set 1: pace 5:36

set 2: pace 5:36 (ran upstairs... GI issues... no success)

set 3: pace 5:33

set 4: pace 5:27 (this one was tough.  I wan't sure I was going to still be "clean" at the end)

ran upstairs... SUCCESS! Jenny's house smelled really bad, I was embarassed, but hey every runner's been there right!  When I came back down the treadmil had shut itself off... dangit

Cool down 16ish minutes. (some of it was after set 4) 2.38 miles.

Thanks michelle.... I just had the NEATEST THING HAPPEN TO ME! One of my running friends (whom I haven't seen in months) called out of the blue and told me of a very vivid dream he had with me in it. It had left him with the overwhelming urge to tell me about it. HEre's the dream:

we were at a the start of a race talking and wishing eachother good luck. He said, "okay annie, I'm going to go ahead to the line." but I wanted to stay and stretch. He looked back at me and saw two very tall angels standing with me. But they were dressed as soldiers in camo. One was looking ahead of me, and the other was looking behind me. He said they were definitely protecting me. That he had this feeling that they were there to ensure that my future.

He didn't know that I lost my job two weeks ago, or that my training has taken my family into scary unchartered waters. Like I said I havent seen or talked to him in months.

I just realized I mucked it up! OOPS! SORRY JENNY

2x 1 mile (supposed to be 2 mile that's where I screwed up) @ 10k effort- jog 2min recovery between. after the second mile:  jog 3min and 1mile HARD.

#1 5:38 (I thought that was suspiciously easy!)

recovery was at 6:48 pace (2min)

#2 5:36 (again I thought "Wow this is an easy workout... and short. hummmm oh well la te da good for me.)

1.5 min recovery @ 6:48 pace (1.5 min run to potty to you know.  Which hard to do when you are breathing hard!)

#3 5:15

great workout. But now that I'm home and I realize that I pretty much only did half of it I feel completely cheated. Now I will never know what that last mile really would have been! I may have to run a tempo on sat to feel better about myself. REv. dimmsdale you got nothing on me (obscure literary reference.... keeps it lively)

From MichelleL on Thu, Dec 13, 2007 at 18:47:12

I would call this intervals. I would call it fartlek if you were doing the workout by minutes instead of a discrete inverval, such as a mile. I get confused by 2 mile repeats. At that point I think they become tempo intervals. Was this on the road, track or treadmill? I would think you would run a treadmill into the ground with 5:15 miles!

I don't know the time for this one.  The footing is awful!  It snowed almost the entire time, which was kind of nice (on the eyes).  I ran 9 with Rob and Brad, then the adventure ensued.  I only count 2 of the 4+ miles as running miles....

I thought the club was doing a 2.5 mile fun run.  I decided to take the boys on that so Casey (hubby) could run with the serious group.  Well it was 2.5 out...2.5 back.  Will (4) ran 2 miles, I discovered he has a bit of a sprinters stride.  He brings his heel to his rear with EVERY stride...  I sent Cooper (7) with Dave because he has run 2 miles before so I thought he'd make the "2.5" no problem without hindering daves run (due to the conditions cooper 8:30 pace would've been suitable.  Cooper ran 4 miles..  WOW!  I carried will on my back and ran or walked much o the way back.... I got help carrying Willem for about 1 mile.... Lets look at the boys physiques....

Willem 40 inches and 40-44 lbs of muscle (depends on clothing and how full his belly is)

Cooper 48.5 inches and 45-49 lbs. of bone...

That evening the four of us went to a Christmas Party with our running friends.  I couldn't figure out why I was being anti-social and crabby.  I had taken a nap.  When I got in the car on the way home I felt it.  My shoulders  began to ache.  By the time I got home my eyes were watering.  I HAD BEEN IN PAIN.  A lot of pain and was just distracted.

Well, what can you say. I found a disc battery in willem's nose this morning, while I was getting Cooper ready for school. I know it's been in there since sunday. He suddenly got stuffy sunday and since he's asthmatic I didn't think too much of it until he said, "maybe I'm stuffed up because of the battawee I stuffed up mines nose." I freaked and looked in there and didn't see anything. Then he said, "MOmmy it felled out of mines nose and went under da bed". Then he took me in his room and showed me. Sure enough a disc battery was under his bed. Thought nothing of it monday when brown mucus was oozing out of his nose, the kid gets bloody noses all the time. then This morning I was going to try and remove some crusties from his nose. I had him blow a little, and then used the flash light and tweezers and hit something hard, Instead of crying he winced. If that was his septum he'd have screamed. I sprayed saline in there looked again and sure enough there was the edge of something shiney. I pulled it out and it was VERY corroded. I tried not to freak to much. I did a neti rinse with warm water, and decided to wait it out. Took him to the emergency room after he layed down on my bed and went to sleep and I couldn't get him to eat (9:30am).

at the emergency room He just layed motionless on the cot for most of the day. While we were there I noticed that the draninage had left a red, irritated trail down his upper lip as well as a couple of very small blisters. Can we say battery acid. They almost let us go home until they took his temp and it was 102. We were admitted at 3pm. Frankly I was a little relieved. Casey got off of work early, brad wife picked up cooper from the bus stop (those are awesome friends).

I left willem for about 10 min. When I went to get casey from the train station. AS I walked back into t he room will was trying to take out his IV. He was too tired and weak to accomplish the task thank goodness. He sure is strong WILLed. It was a long day and a longer night. NO run today.

I stuck a dried wild berry into my ear when I was about 9. My mom had to take me to a special clinic to take it out.

I hope your son gets better soon. When I was 4 or 5 I stuck a Matchbox car wheel up my nose. I cannot remember it exactly, but my parents tell it like this. They took me to the emergency room. After getting my nose checked a doctor asked for a large pair of tweezers. Just as he was about to reach in and get the wheel, I sneezed and shot it out across the room.

I just got back from the hospital! it's 8pm. I got no sleep last night and had the weirdest day ever. Will is doing much better. He took a 5 hour nap today which bothered me, but he's not running a fever anymore. Even though will's not incredibly sick I found myself to be weepy today, which is pretty out of character.

Casey came to the hospital right after Cooper got on the bus. He then went home to eat lunch and shower and surprised me by bringing my running stuff to the hospital. He layed it down and said, "Annie, go run. Get out of here" So I did. I made it half a mile and started to cry. All of the sudden I felt so vulnerable, I never do well with that. Then my lack of control over willem's situation overwhelmed me. I turned around and ran back to shelley's house and stood in her shower and cried. I wasn't worried that willem was going to die or anything, just upset that he had to be sick. Mad at myself for the situation (which wasn't my fault but a mother's guilt isn't logical), for being upset that I didn't get a run in yesterday(so selfish). Then I felt stupid for being so weak and crying about it, I got really angry at myself. Then I just wanted my mom, more than anything in the world. I wondered, how did she handle it with me. Where did she summon her strength from? My stays were frequent and serious. As a kid, you blow stuff like that off. "Oh I'm in the hospital again, Yipeee that means I get as many popsicles as I want and I cant watch cartoons all day" Kids don't feel the gravity of situations, it just is what it is for them. unlimited cartoons and ice cream, cool presents. Here I'm sniveling over an infection and she had to worry about much more pressing issues, much more frequently, and ususally both her babies were admitted at the same time. What did she do when they thought I had cystic fibrosis, or luekemia? It may have been a fleeting diagnosis, like something off HOUSE, but it would've been devastating to hear. I suddenly understood and respected her fortitude for the first time ever, and I wanted her to be with me and tell me what to do. After all those illnesses she still put me in athletics, because she knew they'd make me stronger, and they did! That alone took a lot of strength. I can't imagine the slack she got for that! She is my hero.

Needless to say I ran 1 mile today.

I just talked to my mom. oddly enough she said she was in a funk all day today. She knew she was worried about will but said she couldn't pin point the source of her dark cloud. When I told her how much I wanted her today she started bawling, and said, "that is it. That's what was pulling at me all day" Of course Casey chalked it up to estrogen. He needed sisters, or nieces or a daughter or something.

Sorry to hear about the troubles. I have spent many a nights at the hospital

I know it's not fun. Hope your boy recovers fast.

Its hard enough to be a mom without harrowing experiences like these. I hope Will is doing better.

On a running note, perhaps what your shins need is a couple of days off, so perhaps the rest will help.

my shin was fine (sore after). It took me 4 miles to loosen up, and me to feel "normal". I was just totally fatigued. I'm glad I was conservative and kept it at 6. I ran the loop Casey "found" and enjoyed it. I found an Ice rink! that could be fun... maybe this year I can learn to let go of the wall!

Went to the E.N.T. MD... Looks like the battery did eat through Willem's septum. There's not much we can do, other than make sure the isn't further damage of the area. Impressively enough Willem hasn't complained once. Not even a groan. He's insanely tough. I'll just be glad when the stress wanes.

This was ROB'S MARATHON PACE (5:40). I had hoped to help him through an entire 5 mile loop. (We cut out the beach hill.) Our first mile together was a 5:34. That felt great. Then into the second mile I just shut down. My body just gave out. It was very frustrating for me, considering I know I can do 5 miles at 5:40 pace (or at least close). I felt very very tired. I puked when I woke up, which was weird. I've been a non-puker ever since my mom made me clean up my own (she'd get sick cleaning it up so we had to clean up our own) Then I had the other kind all day and could eat a thing! Shin's were a non-issue which is great! I made up for the lack of nutrients at Giordanno's late, after I felt better.

Rob was a dominating force I must say. It was impressive & inspiring to watch his stride so easily tackle the workout. He's ready, a force to be wreckoned with! Next time he does this workout I'll be hydrated, and ready to provide full support (as if he needed it)!

Hey Annie...I saw that Rob ran a 2:40 something at Chicago. I know from his 1/2M times he's capable of a 2:30. Has he run this time before?? I know the only way I could run this fast is by using the antigravity treadmill and adjusting my weight to 50pounds!!

I'd love to try one someday.

He's gone low 240 but not sub. WE'll see in houston how he does.

It was so freakin' cold! I ran with brad, whose eye lashes froze! The wind gusted so hard, a couple of times, that he and I were practically running in place. When I got home I had to run my fingers under cool water to thaw them out...that was extremely painful. I'm glad I went out. These were some of the worse conditions I've ever run in, the toughness factor was way up there. Oh yeah, I used a garmin for the first time ever. The miles were we were running into the wind we ran 7:50ish. that is awful!

my Piriformis was extremely tight today, probably from the drive yesterday. I ran with casey which was good because it forced me to take it easy. He kept saying stuff like, "you just love to distract me by talking so you can push the pace don't you?" By the time we were done I felt warmed up and the p. was better. I've eatten way way too many cookies!

Did stretching and took 800mg of Ibuprofin. It was much easier to start out. I did 2 two mile loops and then my favorite loop (5.1) Which is a hilly one. 7 miles into this run I stopped to stretch and decided it would be a great idea to dig in to it, you know to massage it. As soon as I let up it went into full borne spasm.

So here I am in deliverance country walking around like quasimoto and all of the cows on my right were staring at me like I was retarded... they may be right. I stopped a second time to stretch and the old man comes out of the house to get some firewood and looks at me all cockeyed and laughs. That felt nice. It was tough getting started again but after about .2 miles I was fine. Unfortunately the llamas weren't out to cheer me up! On the road back into town all the houses were lined up behind a mess of telephone wires. The row of Crumbling shingles, aluminum and asbestos siding, and asymmetrical architecture reminded me of how West Egg must be assembled (from the Great Gatsby).

The massage and Ibuprofin finally paid off. My butt is feeling much much better. Still tight but not painful! I ran on my parents treadmil and watched footy of my sister and I (a few cameo's by Mr. Paul Petersen) running in High School... She was so freaking tough! Trail Race tomorrow I am taking the tennis ball and Ibuprofin with me!

Huffs 50k Trail RElay race....  Never was able to run "hard".  Much of the trail was single track, hilly, rooted, and rocks were hidden beneath the leaves. Not little rocks either. (my time for 10.8 was 1:14;26

The weather was 32 degrees, course was a nice mix of mud, Ice, and standing water. I had a face first wipe out at mile 4... in 6 inches of water (that was under a quarter inch of ice). That was a fun last 6 miles. I ran very conservatively being careful of my foot placement. Not a bad time considering... and I had a blast and got to get filthy dirty! Company was excellent, Tom Dever, and Tim Fears as well as the Terre Haute North girls and boys teams, we had a total blast. A much needed mental break! It was actually 10.8 and I ran that in 1:14. I took my split at 10 miles and inserted it here, since my only option was a 10 mile xc race. The last .8 was extremely winding, and up hill...

1:11:14 I ran to Brad's house, and we ran around his neighborhood. Seems we were the only two of the crew to miss out on dave's birthday run (poor little us). So we had a party of our own and it was way fun. Too bad everyone else missed out on it! Our laughter was so overwhelming people were coming out of their houses to see what they were missing. Okay not really...

Hi Annie, I just caught up on reading your blog and there are some funny bits, like the guy laughing at you. You got to love it. We are the crazy ones, not those who don't exercise. I don't see any posts for this week. I hope everything is well with you and your family.

I am in my little cave. I go there when I am feeling overwhelmed...it's my happy place. I think I'll be ready to emerge soon! I think I just need a little "quiet" time to recover from a lot of recent events.
