Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. And make sure to share it with your friends.

After we all got sick in my household Thursday I thought for sure we were not going to come down and run snow canyon. I even cancelled our babysitter. But still, riley was determined to get me down there to race. So we decided at 12 on Friday to take the kids and give it a shot. Nothing went well the whole weekend so I had low expectations going into the race but still I decided I would try my best because I worked hard in the weeks coming up to the race to get to where I was at. It was a beautiful course. I was trying to be conservative the first few miles but I couldn't help put let the downhill take me as I ran faster mile splits then I thought I would. The whole race was great and I felt like I was flying until mile 10 my energy was gone so I gutted out the rest of the race the best I could. My goal was 1:30 and I ran 1:26:54. I'm happy with the result and have a good starting point to work from.

I met up with Sariah and Angi to get a tempo run in. Sariah had a course picked out that started way up in Shadow Valley. I wanted to try and keep my tempo at around 6:30. The first mile was down hill, the second mile was uphill, the 3rd was downhill again and the 4th was mostly flat with some uphill in it. I was happy with how it turned out.

Ran on the treadmill today for 45 minutes. I'm guessing I ran around 5 miles, we have a really old treadmill and its not super accurate on the speed or distance.

I ran 7x1000m today with a 2 minute jog in between each rep. I did a two mile warm up and cool down. splits were 3:41, 3:44, 3:43, 3:43, 3:43, 3:42, 3:42. Pretty happy with the results, felt like I was pushing the last two to try and keep on pace.

I did a progression tempo run today. 2 mile warm up, then I  got started and the whole thing felt like a struggle with the wind and fatigue probably from the other day. So I was a couple seconds slower per mile then I wanted to be. The original plan was start at 6:35 and progress down to 6:15 for my last mile. But ended up 6:37, 6:31, 6:24, 6:19. Not too bad still.

Riley was nice and picked me up today so I never had to run into the wind. I decided to get my long run done today because we have something going on Saturday. Tried to keep it easy but the wind pushed me along faster. AP 7:44

I did a workout today because I'm doing a 5k Thursday and I wanted to get an extra days rest in between. Riley had me do 2X2.5 miles with a 3 minute rest in between. The pace he had me set up on was 6:24. I hit 6:23 average on my first set then 6:26 average on my second. It was my first time doing this workout it was tough but happy with the outcome.

Race: Turkey Leg 5K (3.13 Miles) 00:19:26, Place overall: 1

Riley and I signed up for a 5K on Thanksgiving in Farmington. Originally, we thought it was a flat course but mile 2 of the race was pretty beastly. My goal for this race was 19:30, still not knowing it had hills. The day before we went and picked up our packets and quickly drove the course to see that it was not flat. So then I was hoping just to win the $50 dollar visa card that was up for grabs and just run the 5k hard. The race started and most of the first mile was pretty flat the last little bit of the first mile had an uphill, I clocked 5:55 for mile 1. Then mile 2 was the challenge, two big rolling hills the first half of that mile, then a gradual uphill the second half this mile, I knew I would be slower so I didn't bother looking at my watch and just tried to push through hard on those uphills, mile 2 ended up being 6:45. A good downhill got me going for mile 3 then It evened out again and I ended up with a 6:06. and then .39 the last .13 of the race. I was pleasantly surprised to be under my original goal which leads me to believe, if this course were flat I would've been well under 19 minutes. And I happily won with the next girl finishing about 30 to 40 seconds behind me. Really happy with how this race turned out.
