Went up to Happy Valley to bask in the rain, cold and wind! We will call this Marathon "sleepless in Happy Valley"
The Marathon itself was a well oiled machine. My hats off to them and all the volunteers. I got into town about 9 pm friday after a 5 hour Drive from Saint George. I was not in a very good mood because the pretty woman was all over me about something i can not discuss on this Blog! Got ready at 2 am in salt lake and drove drove to Prove to get on a bus up the canyon of Rain. After getting up there. we stood in the cold and wind and rain for an hour. I got really wet. I was doing great until about mile 12 and my lips turned Blue. then at mile 17 i started throwing up. My pace went down to 9 min miles. and my body said your done. This is my first DNF. But i glad i did because i think i was very close to passing out. |

| I met up with the Little Buddah ( all 149 pounds of him at 5 am). It was Dark and we were waiting for Big foot to run some tempo miles. Turns out Big foot AKA Willie Nelison was on the road. We decided that neither one of us was in the mood for Tempo so we ran some easy miles down by the river. After words i met the wife at her work for a little kiss. than hit the weight room . 4th Annual Steve Abraham Lincoln Pope Hooper 17.3 Trail Run.
Nice early morning up at 3:15 am and out the door by 3:45 to meet Dustin. The Pretty woman told me I was sleeping on the couch if I was getting up this early. She told me she was just kidding, But I think she was somewhat serious. She tells me I am crazy. But I just tell her about my friend big foot now he is crazy!
Well we all get up there By Enterprise lakes all 25 of us. It looks like this has turned out to be a Minnie race. Steve may have to rent a Bus. It was dark and 49 degrees.
Off we started. Dave, James, Dustin, Steve, Myself , Logan . took off and left the pack. Up two solid Mountains , they all left me! and a couple of hills. And finishing up soaking in cold water stream. Ended up feeling pretty good about the run. No damage done, I am just a little sore from all the hills.

Today is Pioneer day in utah and i should be running the Deseret News marathon. But i bailed out and stayed closer to home and ran the Enterprise fun run 10 k. Up at 4:20 in the morning. This is like sleeeping in compared to Mikes Standards. And on the road at 5 to a Small town on the nothern edge of the world. (Washington county) Met up with Steve, Clyde, Logan. Scott. who knows how to scare a guy in the bathroom! (thats another story) we got on the bus and got to the starting point. a small warm up. then ganged up at the starting line and the gun was about to go off and Clyde bellowed wait just a minute while he adjusted his garmin. "The world stoped in silence!" Then the Man the Legend Clyde The superfly took off like a bullet never to be seen again until the End. All i seen was a red Cape and something that resembled spandex! Everyone had a great race. I avg 6:12 pace came in 37:52. |

4:20 Am is when the call of the wild begins my day for “Tin man Tuesday.” Met up with The Band of brothers, James and Dave. Also Clyde, Logan, Steve, And Dustin. | up at 4:20 AM and then headed over to pick up Cody, then off to meet Dustin. We planned on at least 17. We drove up to the road to Kolob. "Where woman moan and men thunder!" started out slow and all was calm as we ran down a fairly steep grade. Then lighting began crashing down all around us, and it seemed that the very pillers of heaven were shaking. Heavy drops of water mixed with hail hit us with the force of a scatter gun. We witnessed the birth of fire from a single bolt of lightening. When we finally got to the bottom of the mountain with about 8 miles left i picked up the. However, Buddah was not going to leave me alone and stayed close like a wolve waiting for signs of weakness. Buddah cought me at the Top of the laverkin twist and with a slight grin sarted shadowing my every move. 5:40 Pace, 5:27 pace. He went wide right of me and pulled away. By the time we reached the bottom (2 miles down) Had gained at least 30 seconds on me. It was a fun run. |

| 3 easy am miles. then off to the club run! woo hoo met up with Steve, james, Dave, Clyde, Dustin and Logan. They were all there in spirit! We started out with 2 easy miles, then i suggested we pick it up a bit! Clyde took us out at 6:30 pace for the next 2 miles. Then i turned to steve and told him lets see what clyde has under the hood. so we picked it up to 6:00 pace. Then Dave started to swing his arms and found another gear 5:40 pace. Clyde began to wheeze terribly! and Steve and james were slowley fading. Logan must of passed out at mile 8. Dustin must of fell in the river. But in the end Dave held on and thus a another club run in the Books. this run will go down in the book of fairy tales! The miles are accurate and the rest is for others to debate for a life time. |

Nice 20 miles. Met up at the church at 4:30 and Mike, Tom, Dustin and Steve started off. Mike took off and never looked back. Tom and i managed to hang with each other for about 8 miles. Lost the water drop off and go dehydraed. We had a Head Wind all the way. Glad this week is over pretty tired and i am falling asleep as i write. Mike is ready for sub 3. Tom will be ready he is a very talanted runner.

| 15 fun Miles with Big foot and Art. Big foot made me swear not to reveal his secret bread and butter run with a blood oath! I got to bit foots home at 5 in the morning. He and Art in the Park were already out streatching and showing of their tan Lines. We started off in a direction that i can not reveal and ended up back at Big foots home! Big foot took off the last mile with a sub 6 performance up some hill near his home. Then we ran down to the start of the swiss days 5 k . Paced some of Big foots friends. and met up with some friends and had Breakfast. I like this race because they dance and have music blasting before the start of the race. The Awards are pretty good to. Legs feel good. every thing is a go for next weeks long 26.2 training run! |

Here is my racing report. It was a warm morning on the hill near central. All the stars were there and the Big guns lined up. Dave, Aaron, Clyde, James, Steve, Logan. Looking at this I lost concentration the last 5 miles. And this is where I missed my sub three.
I was feeling good and let Mike go around mile 8. I should of stayed with him. he was about 200 yards ahead of me but I decided to stay behind. I seen Logan and I wanted to stop and make sure he was ok. But it looked like he was being taken care of. Then I ran into Dustin about a mile before the ledges. He ran with me for a while until the ledges. Mike was not to far ahead. I caught up to Mike on the corner of the Diagonal He was in pain and was limping! I felt pretty bad. I did not want to leave him. At this point I knew the Sub three was out of range so I slowed down a little and coasted in. This is the best time I have had for a couple of years so I am not to disappointed. I still think that sub three is in reach. Thanks to the cheering crowd and my friends. Mike would have had a 2:57 or less if it were not for his injury. The man can flat out fly and I am at aw when I think of how much pain he went through to just finish this marathon.

| woke up at 5 am and went to work with the pretty woman. nice over cast morning with light rain! This is the first 12 miler since the marathon. i felt great. I ran past The Moving Wall Vietnam Veterans Memorial and stoped to look. I wept as i read the letters from the children of the vetrans that died. so many families lost the ones that they loved. War is terrible and so distructive. I salute all the Vets, and pray for all of them that serve our country. thank you. |

my Pretty woman and myself drove over to the Save a sister 10 k 5k and one mile walk. I did not even warm up because this not about coming in first. it is about Brest cancer and helping those who go through this. it rained all night and it was pretty wet. Met up with scott and talked with Amber. Both were running the 5k thank goodness. i planned on staying behind the first group of girls the entire race. I stuck with that plan pretty well. ended up coming in 3rd overall in men and 5th overall. This was not an easy course. lots of hills. We ran two 5 k loops. now its time to get ready for the snow canyon half. time to reclaim my divison for the rest of the year. |

| 10 tripping miles with little Budda!! nice trail and road combo run! nothing fast. was planning on going 12 but we cutit short! it was dark at 7 am. and temps were a perfect 50 degrees. The Buddah tripped over a rock and went down pretty hard. But he kept his Elders quarem president composure and blessed the rocks ancestors! We had a good time discussing his next adventure monday! I may run again this afternoon and take the pretty woman on a bike ride. |

Just Ran the snow canyon half. I met up with James and off we went to meet up with 1,500 runners. We just made the next to the last Bus up! What ride! most Bus rides before a race take forever! We finally arrive and we have only 5 minutes to get ready. so i take off the clothes and take a pit stop! (not all my clothes people) and walk up to the starting line with 1500 other people. all the favorites were there. NIKES,ASICS,SAUCANY,...... and of course payless!! No warm up again! i am going to regret this tomorrow. and bam the gun goes off.
1. 6:21 real flat with a slight head wind!
2. 6:32 a little incline and my hat keeps geting loose so i chuck it at Logan who give me a cheer! ( I hope he picks it up) i like the hat. Maybe my hair is too long?
3. 6:25 still flat time to get going, i aint getting any younger according to the woman that is pushing me!
4. 5:56 My hamstring is wistliing Dixie. but feeling ok.
5. 6:01 my feet are on fire and it high fire alert today!
6. 6:03 i just got chicked! Man she is moving! I am now looking for the oxygen machine tent I hope they have cotton candy air!!!

I did the 4-mile shuffle today. Feeling real sore from the race. I think most of the soreness is from not warming up in the proper proportions. Lack of athletic ability and loss off general fitness. Weight management may also have contributed to the intrinsic nature of my pain! |

| I woke up at 4 am to go meet the gang of St. George at 5. not feeling the best, but we started out in the cold dark hour of 5 am. Met up with Steve the "ghost whisperer", Dave the "white shadow", and Logan the "bush walker." We were Just running a nice easy 7:30 pace and i was struggling the entire time. I managed to hang onto them to the half way point. then the cramps in the legs came. then out of the darkness a white night appeared. to my surprise it was "Tunafish" We ran together for the last 2.5miles and i was able to pick up the pace. Not sure what the problem was but some of it had to do with the cloths i wore. and some of it has to do with my poor food choices. I got to remember to make better food choices if i want to perform at a higher level. |
