Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I ran 1.6 to the gym.  I did squats, sits, planks, core and then calf stuff.  Rab 1.6 home from the gym.  My legs felt a big creaky.  I'm still very bruised from having ART done on my calves.  THEN, when running up Provo canyon, I tried to climb over this bridge to avoid a HUGE puddle.  I didn't do it very gracefully and got another HUGE bruise on my quad.  I totally look beat up.

It was SUPER dark this morning  because of all the cloud cover.  A little spooky!  I ran my favorite 5 mile loop backwards today - it was much more hilly!  I had a hard time getting my legs to move.  After 3/4 miles they woke up and I felt good.

Off to swimming lessons.....I had a screamer and kicker yesterday.  I hope there is no more drama today!

1 step forward, 2 steps back.  WHY in the world can I not get my act together with running?  WHY are my lower legs always achy?  When I went to the doctor in May, he said shin splints.  But I'm not sure if that is it.  I have one spot 3 inches above my ankle (on the inside) that hurts.  When I rub my thumb over the bone, it is a bit sore, but doesn't ache like a stress fracture.  When I rub the muscles, it BURNS!  Could it be tendonitis?  What is causing this?  I am feeling frustrated and defeated.

My run was ok.  We have a lot of construction going on by our house, so there are all these creepy construction guys around.

This is the best run I've had in awhile.  Hooray, it is about time!  I ran my 6 mile loop "backwards" so I could go up the 1.5 mile hill.  I'm doing more of these to hopefully become a stronger hill runner.  You can tell from my splits when the hills end!  Need to change that!

It was nice and cool this morning.  No major lower leg pain.  A great run over all. Iced.  Need to stretch out this afternoon.

I met Rachel and Smooth at the JRP dark and early this morning.  It was extra stinky out there!  Not sure what was in the water, but it smelled!  This was the "perfect" run!  Smooth entranced us with stories for 2 hours.  WOW - is she amazing!  I'm not sure I could have done this distance without these two wonderful gals!  Thank you!

This was my longest training run this year.  I was/am worried on how my lower legs were going to handle it.  The verdict is still out!  About a mile from the finish, I was starting to get tired.  I just wanted to finish, so I took off because I was tired of running :)

Plus I needed to get home to get my yard work done, so I could take my kids to the pool, so I could host a BBQ in the afternoon.  But man alive, I am TIRED!

Good times!
