Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

Swim - 25minutes (about 2.5 running miles)

Spin Class - 45 minutes (about 4.5 running miles)

I feel so discouraged today.  When my doctor called withe my bone scan results, he told me I could swim and bike.  That has what I've been doing - I haven't cheated because I know it will only slow down my recovery.  But my foot kills today and I think it is from spin class.  I feel like I keep taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back.

Running always gives me such a high.  I am addicted and going through such serious withdrawals.  I need it and I am a long way from getting it.  I'm just having a downer of a day.  Plus, I'm really tired.  On the days, when I know I am getting up super early (5am), I always wake up in the middle of the night fearful that I have slept through my alarm.  Silly - I know.

I need to find 4 parents to help with a class party - those phone calls are SO not fun!  No one ever wants to volunteer!

45 swim minutes - 44 laps

The pool was "hose water" cold this morning.  I would have left, but I had gotten up at 5am to swim and wasn't going to leave after making that sacrifice.  Brrrr.....I've been cold all day.

40 minutes - 46 laps - approximately 4.6 running miles

The pool temperature was back to normal - hooray!  I felt really strong today while swimming - I tried to visualize my favorite runs while I counted ceiling tiles during the swim.  I know this may sound silly, but I STILL cannot believe that I am swimming (even if it is only the back stroke).  My fear of water is slowly not becoming a fear.

The weigh in today was 142lbs - down 2 lbs.  I was alittle surprised because I made a big batch of cookies last night for my kids and snarfed down WAY too many.   I was chatting with a friend about P90x - anyone have any thoughts on this?  Is it worth it?

60 minutes aqua running

I went to the rec center tonight (my regular gym doesn't have a deep-end pool) to do some aqua jogging instead of regular swimming.  Wow - that is really hard!  I really liked it and plan to do it more often.  It was fun to watch all the little kids in swim lessons (I felt like I needed to join them) and it kept my mind occupied.

Kelli-I'll have to weigh in tomorrow morning.  I didn't know where the scale was at the rec center.  Yesterday I was 142.

22 easy laps - 25 minutes - 3-running miles

I was SO tired last night after my deep water aqua running.  My body ached and ached as I was trying to fall asleep.  I decided to take it easy today and recover.  I think I will go back to the rec center tomorrow and do a "long run" aqua style!

Kelli-I weighed in at 141.8lbs (down .2 from Wednesday).  The weekend is coming up which usually means extra treats - I've got to be careful!

swim - 64 laps=1 mile - 52 minutes

I was SO not excited to go to the gym today.  Hubby was camping with the scouts and I kept procrastinating and procrastinating.  But I did go and was SO glad I did!

I think after my pool run on Thursday, my body thought this was a cake walk.  Each lap, I kept getting faster and faster.  I was breathing hard (really hard in some areas) and now I'm feeling alittle bit heavy (like after a good workout).

I'm seriously considering doing a tri - I just need to get a bike.
