Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

The pool temperature was back to normal - hooray!  I felt really strong today while swimming - I tried to visualize my favorite runs while I counted ceiling tiles during the swim.  I know this may sound silly, but I STILL cannot believe that I am swimming (even if it is only the back stroke).  My fear of water is slowly not becoming a fear.

The weigh in today was 142lbs - down 2 lbs.  I was alittle surprised because I made a big batch of cookies last night for my kids and snarfed down WAY too many.   I was chatting with a friend about P90x - anyone have any thoughts on this?  Is it worth it?

I am somewhat afraid of the water too. :) slowly working on it in hopes of someday doing a triathlon. Burt & Leandra both do P90X I think.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 15:29:02 from 206.19.214.144

Yes we are. I always make sure to do one more than whatever Leandra does.

I'm definitely seeing results (by which I mean I stare at my muscles in front of the mirror more.) But you really do have to pace yourself.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 16:18:05 from 71.219.89.82

I have P90X, I have done the abs and the Yoga and I have watched the rest. It is hard core!!! You would have to skip out on the plyometrics for now, but I bet you could do everything else. It is super tough and will make you SUPER TOUGH (I am not sure about Burt and his mirror flexing though!)

It is not Thursday yet!!!!! I have one more day to drop a little. As of today, I am exactly where I was last Friday so I have at least undone the damage from my vacation weekend and BAGS of peanut m&m's and tons of ice cream and licorice and cadbury mini eggs (dang Teena for buying those!!!!) BUT I went to book club and only had a teeny little treat, then I put gum in my mouth. I hope that will work tomorrow night at Bunko----so much junk and so much mindless eating. I need to quit Bunko, it makes me fat.

I am sorry about your foot, I know how much it stinks to not be able to do what you want. Honestly, I hate running. but when someone tells me I can not do it, I all of the sudden love it!!!! Hang in there!

Kelli- I had to weigh in today because of the amount of cookies yesterday and today :)

From Smooth on Wed, Jan 27, 2010 at 23:31:55 from 174.23.232.65

NICE swim! I'm terrified of drowning.

SWEET weighing in!

I'm impressed with all your swimming. I'm not exactly afraid of the water, but I'm a terrible swimmer.

My friend Michelle (michellem.fastrunningblog.com) does P90X regularly. I've done it with her a couple of times. It is definitely tough.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 14:09:39 from 71.219.89.82

Alright, it is Thursday!!!!! I am down 1.5 pounds since last Thursday. YEAH!!!! Now, I must hold on to that through the weekend for a change!!!

How did ya do?

From auntieem on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 14:35:22 from 24.17.177.218

So cool on the swimming! That's one of my goals for 2010 - learning to swim. Have you tried pool running?

From LuzyLew on Thu, Jan 28, 2010 at 17:46:36 from 208.187.197.42

good job on the cross training-and overcoming the aquaphobia to do it. I hate swimming, even though I know it's good. Maybe you can pool jog ? that may be too hard on the foot. A good spin class can give you the same high, I think. It can really kick your bum. Keep up the busy work! We all have to confront the downtime of healing by cross training if we cant to keep running. Good job.

if we Want to keep running (sorry)!

Awesome swim and weigh in!!! :)

Albeit, from your pic you don't look like you should lose one single ounce. You look fantastic!!!!

Cookies can't be that bad for us!!! :)

From Emily on Sat, Jan 30, 2010 at 00:32:33 from 71.219.137.145

Hi! I am one of Kelli's running buddies and thought I'd say hello. I too have tried P90X and like the results I've gotten. It's hard though, especially "Plyometrics". The kick boxing/"Kenpo" is a joke and the leg work out isn't as difficult as I'd like it to be, but I absolutely LOVE the other workouts. You REALLY get results if you follow the nutrition plan, but I have a hard time with that :) Hope that helps!

From TBarlow on Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 22:24:43 from 216.194.124.36

Emily-I heard you ROCKED at Painters. Big congratulations! Thanks for the P90X advice. I need alittle hard-core right now :)
