5 mile treadmill run in 44:45. Went up to 7.5 once today and it about killed me. (I was getting up to 8.0 before the holidays...) Mostly stayed between 6.5 and 7.0 after that. It was tiring and hard today. Watched a few cooking shows on the OWN network. It was boring. So glad I got the run in. Will start training for Ogden marathon in about 10-12 days I think. My husband Jeff was looking at Hal Higdon's Intermediate training schedule for me. I guess that's what I'll do.

5:45am Bryan Kest Power Yoga 1-52 minutes 4 mile treadmill run in 35:30. Intervals between 6.7-7.5 (warm up and rest at 6.0) Feels good to get it all done in the morning. Now I can clean, watch TV or take a nap when the baby does:)
Later note: I forgot to add that I lost a toe nail yesterday. My first one! I didn't even know this one was coming off.

6 mile treadmill run in 54:45. Watched "Kidnapped by the kids" (almost cried) and "Mystery Diagnosis" (fascinating, scary sad...) on OWN.
Later Note: Just ran around the house barefoot for 10 minutes for my 8th grade daughter's science experiment. Whoa I might be sore. Interesting how I never heal struck only midsole. I think I do the same in my shoes but I'm not sure.

| | Did a new Jillian workout on demand. "6 pack in 6 weeks"- 40 min. She blends weight training and cardio exercises, all of which focus on the abs. It was okay but don't think I'll do it again. I sweat more when I do her burn fat/boost metabolism. Lots of plyo there.
Ran 3 miles on the treadmill in 25:45. THAT was a workout.

| | Left at 5:30am. I was still asleep and forgot to turn on my garmin for the first couple minutes. I ran with two friends. We ran up Newcastle and up the trail which I was excited about cause I wanted to try my yaxtrax on the trail. It was cold but beautiful! I actually stayed pretty warm most of the time. There was light snow falling. I had a stomach cramp from the beginning that I thought would go away but it just got worse. I've never felt that bad on a run. I couldn't wait to get home. I think it was a really bad gas bubble. I need to start drinking tea before bed or not eat a bunch of broccoli for dinner the night before. Will do Power Yoga during nap time. 52 minutes

Gave Jill's new workout another try since I was sore from it the other day. 40 minutes Some of my "favorite" moves= burpies mountain climbers plank jacks double crunches (apparently a pilates move, never done it)
caterpillar (down to extended plank and keep extending...don't drop....freak'in hard!) spider planks side plank with knee lifts (top leg stays straight but bring in bottom leg and extend back out, inner thigh workout as well as core and arm...hellllooooo!) 4 mile treadmill run in 34:25 (6.0 warm-up and the rest was between 6.5 and 8.0)

Time 56:12 AP 9:02 Fastest mile was 3 @ 8:25 We left at 6am and I ran with the same friends as Monday plus Betsy. She had already run 8 miles, met us and ran with us and went home to get her dog and go more. She's training for a 50 miler I guess. If I keep running with her I might qualify for Boston running Odgen. She's fast. It was a tough run this morning but good for me. Lots of hills. We went up past the Buffalo. There's even a light shining on it so you can see it really well in the dark. They must be so darn proud of that thing. Down the hill (fastest mile) and then up and up Highland. Back up toward Albion to run Jill home and then back toward home to run Deb home and Betsy ran me home. She runs fast and talks my ear off. I just listen and try to keep up. My legs are really tired and I'm sore. I think it's from running outside Monday. The last time I had been outside was New Year's Eve. It's so much harder on my body to run outside, esp. in winter. It's good to be sore right? Nice to have it over and done with. I need to take a nap when Josie does cause she woke up at 3:30am. She's getting sick again and I think it's an ear infection. I tossed and turned and couldn't go back to sleep until about 4:30. I was nervous about meeting these guys on time and couldn't stop thinking about primary/church stuff. Sometimes I hate being the leader in charge.

Time 1:37:24 AP 9:45 Ugh. Left around 5:40am and went by myself. It was warmer thank goodness. Never thought I'd be excited about 25 degrees (I don't know exactly what it was but around that). Before I left I looked out the window and my street looked pretty clear so I didn't wear my yaktrax. I regretted that decision after the first mile. It was pretty slushy, icy, snowy and toward the end of my run I ended up on the sidewalk a lot and wishing I had them on. The friends I ran with Wed. told me I would ruin them if I ran on the clean street so I didn't want to wear them if there wasn't enough snow. Whatever...hard to know. It was foggy but pretty with the new snow. There were a lot of hills but that's part of the joy of running around here. I was excited to run this 10 this morning. It's been about a month since I ran this far I think. I started my training for the marathon today officially! I called my friend in Vegas yesterday who is running Ogden with me and she sent me her schedule which she started two weeks ago, oops. I've pretty much been doing what she has so not too worried. I would like to be able to keep up with her for most of this race but she's faster than me right now so I'm hoping if I use her schedule I can keep up with her. She is trying to qualify for Boston but will be 40 so she needs a 3:50. I need a 3:45 so it's long shot for me. I'll try again at St. George if I don't make it or wait till next year when I'm 40 and my time is 3:50. I really am not expecting to qualify, I'm just dream'in. Will do my best! Excited to have a training schedule with hill training, speed work, tempo runs and all that. Feel'in great!

Time 46:01 AP 9:13 TUT (total uphill time) 6:00 I left at 7:15! Yay for light! Went down around falcon and found puddles and slush. I also found myself stripping down there cause I was so hot. It was so warm out this morning. Yay for warmth! There were some big dark clouds at first but they blew away. Coming up the Falcon hill took me two minutes and I ran over to Flat Iron where the hills took me one minute each. Ran around there a few times and then the hill home took 1 minute. Yay for a training schedule! I LOVE it! Jackie Warner Upper Body and Ab workout-30 minutes

| | Time 54:54 AP 9:09 Best mile was the last in 8:24 Beautiful moon out west as I stepped out at 6am. It was crisp and clear. This was 6 "easy" miles according to schedule. The first half I ran toward the mountain so gradual uphill the whole time. 2nd half coming back down and then to flat for the last 1.5 mile. It was nice to see some light behind the east mountains as I finished up. I bought myself an LED headlamp with TriplePower 75 lumens. I WILL be seen. I also bought a safety light (red) to wear on the back. I wanted to put them both on strobe light and be really obnoxious to cars:) but I didn't.

Time 34:28 AP 8:37:) Splits 8:44, 8:36, 8:50, 8:20 Tried to make it "fast" miles today but my legs felt frozen. I guess they weren't because I don't think I've ever run that fast (outside) for 4 miles! Yay! Now if only i could keep that up for 22 more miles I could qualify for Boston! Hah! Not likely. It was COLD out! Should have worn my gator. The moon beautiful! Jackie Warner Upper Body and Ab workout-30 minutes (didn't rest on the tummy tucks and about died!)

Time 1:54:05 AP 9:30 Not bad for a hilly run.
Splits 9:39, 9:26, 10:26, (big hill) 9:17, 9:41, 8:53, 9:21, 9:47, 9:35, 9:34, 9:27, 8:59 :)
Left at 6:30am and it was 40 degrees! Met Deb and Betsy and their BIG dogs. Ran up Newcastle and met Jill (no dog).We ran up Newcastle and turned south on some street to 94th. Ran up that (whoa) and turned toward Dimple dell road. We ran past the road Lysa and I used to come out on but instead of going right toward dimple dell we went left up a steep hill and just went up and up to Wasatch. Tough! We turned around and came back, turned somewhere and ended up back at the dimple dell trail area and went on the trail there. That was my first time and I loved it! There was a powdered sugaring of snow covering the trail (which is wood chips Deb told me). The sun was rising and the moon was gorgeous up south west. It was so clear and the lights of the city with the mountains all around...it was just pretty. I loved running on that trail too! We ran there for a while and Betsy left us to go home at mile 6 (She ran 20 miles yesterday). The 3 of us ran down by Smith's and cut through and went up past the library and up highland to home. I ended up running the last 2 miles alone around home. I was happy to run the last mile in 8:59! My butt and the bottoms of my feet were sore at the end of the run. It's been a long time since I ran 12 miles outside. First time doing long runs in the winter. Fun, new experience!
Fun to run with people, to talk and listen to fun stories and leave the music at home. Jill ran one marathon 10 years ago and told us this morning that she's running/training for the Provo marathon. Deb is running Ogden and Betsy is training for a 50 miler. Betsy is fast so if I feel like pushing it I stay with her. If I want to hold back I hang with Deb. It's nice to have a mixture of speeds going on.
Just drank a BIG glass of chocolate milk. Yummo! Gotta shower, make blueberry muffins (trying a new recipe with whole WHITE wheat and greek yogurt) and plan my sharing time for tomorrow! Have a great day!

Time 54:40 AP 9:07 Splits 8:49, 9:08, 8:18, 9:28, 9:18, 9:41
Speed work was on the schedule for today. This is what it said to do: 2miles GP (goal pace) 2 miles Intervals 2miles CD (cool down)
My friends from Vegas put this schedule together and I don't quite understand why they did it this way but I tried it. This was the first time I've done speedwork. I ran around the 1 mile block by my house to do all this. I need to figure out my garmin to help me in more detail but I haven't yet.
2 miles GP (9.0) 1 mile 8:49 2nd mile 9:08 2 miles Intervals -I decided to do mile repeats so I did 1 mile faster than goal pace and then recovered for 1/2 mile and repeated. So that ended up being 3 miles total. 1 mile cool down. I think I'd rather go to the track next time. Deb and Jill said they'd come. Might try Yasso 800's there.

Treadmill run this morning. Didn't feel like putting all the layers on and going out in the cold. Watched the news and listened to music on commercials. Did Jackie Warner Upper body workout (weights) and ab workout. Killer! amazing how much harder it gets when you increase the weights and don't modify or stop on that ab workout. I registered for the Spectrum 10k race in St. George that's in March. Need to register for the 10 mile race that's in February (President's Day weekend). I just checked my training schedule and I just happen to have a 10 mile run that weekend so PERFECT! I'm a little neurotic about following my schedule.

Time 1:54:55 AP 9:35 Pretty good pace for such a hellish hillish run:)
Met Deb and Jill at Michael Way and Sterling Dr. We ran down past Falcon, up to 94th and right on 17th. Went down past the library to Sego Lily and turned left. We ran all the way up Sego Lily which I have never done. I called up to Jill who was in front of me (Deb was way back with her dog) "Are you trying to kill me?" We seriously ran up that steep hill for 2 miles. Went all the way to the top and then down around to Eastdell. Stayed there for a minute but then turned right (at the elementary school) to run up toward Dimple dell where Lysa and I used to run. Instead of turning right to go to the trails and Dimple dell road we turned left and went straight up another hill for almost a mile to Wasatch. My butt and hammies were feel'in it. Jill pushes me cause she's been running with Betsy who pushes her. We turned @ wasatch and came back down and over to 94th. Down 94th to the light at Eastdell and went over to Albion (Jill went home here) and kept going to Alta Canyon (I think). Down around Key bank and up Highland and around the mile block home. It was just foggy and cold. I miss the sun. So grateful for a HOT shower and now my nice husband is making me an omlette. Have a great day!

Time 50:47 AP 9:39 HILLS. And steep ones! 7:00 TUT Ran down around Falcon and then over to Flat Iron. I overdressed this morning. Just prepping for 5 degrees on Wed:) It was foggy, breezy, snowy, slippery. I was afraid to let loose on the downhills cause even with my spotlight I couldn't see every ice patch. Didn't seem snowy or icy enough for the yaktrax though. Will do BK Power Yoga 2 (50 min) while Josie naps later.

I still love my Kinsei's more. (wow, up to 600)
Time 1:07:15 on the treadmill. "Slow" run today. Watched an episode and 1/2 of "Heavy" on A&E. My sister told me about the show and all I have to say is WHOA! Made me grateful that I was physically able to run 7 easy on the TM today. Grateful for a new month. One month closer to Spring even if it's colder than it's ever been out there today. I was feeling down and a little angry that I had to get up and run 7 miles today. Asked myself what I was thinking signing up for this marathon and training in the winter. Training last year with Lysa starting in May was so nice! I think I'm crazy for doing 2 marathons this year. Just having a little breakdown. I need to refocus and be grateful that I can run! This weather is just so depressing and it doesn't help to talk to my friend in Vegas who's training for Ogden as well.

| | Cross training day Tried the Just Dance 2 Intense workout on the wii for 40 min.I was sweating, but not enough. The program didn't work the way I thought it would and it annoyed me. The dancing part was fun but not enough of a workout.
Did Jillian's "winning combination of core-focused cardio circuits and ab-toning exercises." Otherwise known as the "6 week/ 6pack" on demand. 38 min.
| |
| | 4 "Fast" miles on the treadmill in 34:55. Warmed up for 5 min and then ran between 6.5-7.0 most the time and 8.0 the last .60. I was trying to do a tempo run but I don't even know what I ended up doing. There are so many different types of speed work that it confuses me. Jackie Warner Upper body and ab workout (weight+cardio)- 30 min So glad my 11 yr old is finally back to school. Has been home all week with influenza (doctor thinks) . | | Left @ 6:30 and it was 33 degrees. So warm! I went with Deb and Jill. Up Newcastle and up to La Caille (trail) where we turned left on Wasatch. Went a ways and left went left down toward Creek Road. All the way down Creek to Highland and back up to Newcastle. We were @ 9+ there when Deb left us to take her dog home. Deb and I went back up Newcastle and back up to La Caille (trail again) and turned right and SLOWLY ran up to 94th. My legs were burning! I love the burn! (kept telling myself) I really couldn't believe we were going back up (way back on Newcastle for the 2nd time) @ mile 10. I told her that Lysa and I were always looking for flat or downhill @ this point on our long runs. She said she just goes on auto pilot and doesn't notice the inclines. What!? Anyway, so happy to get to the top of Wasatch @ 94th and come down, down, down, to Highland where we get another hill @ mile 13 where I was supposed to be done. Ran an extra mile home on flat ground and so appreciated it! My average was around 9:57 I think but my daughter was playing with it when I got home and kept pushing the start button. Time: 1:08:53 AP 9:51 7 SLOW, IN THE SNOW Left @ 6:15, went alone with my music. It was definitely a yaxtrax morning. Certain back roads were icy so I aimed for the snow. Best place to run was on the snow packed tire tracks. It was beautiful with the snow because it was lighter out. The sunrise was great with the clear blue sky. The sun is rising sooner. Yay! I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I didn't finish my run in time to drive the carpool so my husband drove and I finished shoveling the driveway when I got home. Registered for the Dam 2 Dam run in St. George (Pres. day weekend) I guess we run @ Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, UT. I'm doing the 10 miler, Jeff's doing the 5. Time: 2:18:39 AP 9:54 Hardest 14 miler I've ever done! Not that I've done so many but, it was freak'in hard. I went with Betsy and Jill so I didn't have slow Deb to fall back on. I'm putting my splits just for fun cause there's one I'm really proud of. 9:12, 9:18, 11:09 (trail) 9:50, 9:08, 7:58 !!!!!! (never seen this on my garmin for a 1.00), 10:58 (she took me straight up the steepest trail ever!) 11:56 (wait, maybe that was it) 9:57, 10:00, 9:50, 9:33, 9:46, 10:06 (the trails kicked my butt so hard I seriously barely made it home. legs, butt and feet were killing). So...we went up Newcastle and up trail to La Caille. Betsy is a pro at those trails and I'm just trying to not break my ankle. Every step on the trail is a workout for me. At least it was in the condition they were in this morning. At La Caille we went up Wasatch and turned left up Cottonwood Canyon (south). That whole mile was TOUGH. We turned around (up @ the fork where the buses are and north cottonwood) and came back down and Jill was booking it this time. Ran down 94th and took our first left after going past Wasatch. Went down this hill and my garmin beaped and I saw the 7:58 and couldn't believe it! So happy! We went toward Dimple dell and I thought we'd run where we had before on a not so tough trail. Well, Betsy went down dimple dell to another trail head that took us straight up the side of the mountain. Of course she raced up like a mountain goat. Jill left us here and went home. Betsy and I continued on for I think about 4 miles on the trail and it did my body in. Straight down ( I was so worried I would fall or break something and she just raced through there. Very experienced trail runner) and straight up and I walked at one point (11:56). The trail leveled off but it's just so hard on my body. I feel like it's working muscles I never use with every step. Holy cow. Getting back on the road just felt easy after that but my body was so tired from it...it was seriously the hardest thing I've done in a long time. Anyway, I sound like a wimp. I know it will just make me stronger and I did enjoy the challenge some of the time :). Betsy did most of the talking and for the last 4 miles I noticed my face was FREEZING. When I tried to talk my mouth was numb like I had been to the dentist. I felt like such a retard when I tried to talk that it was making me laugh. My water was frozen and slushy by the end. I'm so excited to run a race in St. George next week! I hoping it will be so much warmer and no snowy trails! So grateful for a nice hot shower after these long runs in the cold! Had to get ready to help @ the school with Valentine parties for 2 hours. Now I need a serious nap. Did long run today cause I'll be in Midway tonight for GNOO (girls night out overnighter).

Cross training day JM Banish Fat Boost Metabolism-40 minute Cardio Circuit broken into 6-minute circuits. Most challenging circuit for me is #5 *jump sqauts *cross country *scissor kicks (like jump squats but you come up and scissor the legs) * skaters (recovery) and *STANDING MOUNTAIN CLIMBERS (high knees with arm punching up). Love the jumping jacks and jumprope and the walking plank she does during the floor circuit. 20 minutes jogging on step while watching Oprah. 10 minutes at advanced level- 5 minutes at intermediate level and 5 minutes cooling down stepping not jogging. Oh my gosh, while I was stepping I heard something and looked toward my sliding glass door, which was open a little for some fresh air and a huge, ugly, brown dog was trying to get into my house! I freaked and screamed and yelled at him to get out and get away! Scared the !&*# out of me! Stupid dog! Why is it even running around in my yard? I had just let Puddy (Lysa's dog) back into his yard before I started exercising. What's up with the dog thing today?
It is so dang windy!!! Just read this. The dream is moving farther away.

Time 53:55 AP 8:59 (I think) 1 mile warm up @ 6.0 4X800's (1/2 mile) in 4 minutes so I ran around a 7.5 for 4 minutes. Jeff says that's about an 8 minute mile. (4th time tough) Recovered @ 6.5 for 1/2 mile
Last mile I started @ 6.5 and worked my way up to 8.0 for the last bit.

2011 Dam 2 Dam Run (10 Miles) 01:29:33, Place overall: 19, Place in age division: 6
Garmin time: 10.04 miles in 1:29:29 with AP 8:55 Splits: 9:10,8:53, 8:58, 8:54, 8:49, 8:59, 9:06, 9:05, 8:35, 8:40, 7:45 (232 ft)
51 total and 14 women in my age division
Jeff and I dropped Lizzie off at the soccer field and got to Sand Hollow State Park in Hurricane, Utah @9am Sat. He was trying to catch the last shuttle for the 5 mile run which was supposed to leave @ 9:15. It was raining and had been pouring down since 4 am that morning. Gray clouds all around and no let up in sight. When we arrived they told us they weren't doing the shuttle and the 5 and 10 mile race would start together @ 10am. We sat in our car for an hour waiting...I decided @ the last minute to not wear my big, awkward raincoat, Jeff kept his on. This was not a big race, I really have no idea how many people there were. 100? (Hey I guessed right) Jeff and I ran together for a bit but then I headed off. (He's only worked his way up to 3 miles so was hoping to finish this 5 mile race). I had on two shirts and my tights, shorts, a hat, buff band to cover ears and gloves. When we started raining I didn't even notice the rain anymore. It was just me and my music and the person ahead of me I needed to pass pretty much this whole race. I took it easy though to begin with. We ran around a big body of water. We started on gravel, then to road and then back to gravel for a while. Got a few rocks in my shoes but left them there. Figured I'd just get more. The 5 milers turned around @ 2.5 and we ran out and around a point and turned around @ 5. When the first runner looped around I high fived him and said good job. A girl was close behind him and I high-fived her and said good job!!! I thought I recognized the 5th or 6th woman that looped me coming back and I realized who she was when I saw her again @ the end of the race. There were water stations at mile 2.5 and 5 and ? Anyway, at 5 I drank for a minute and passed up a few girls I thought for sure would catch me again but didn't. On the way back I stayed right behind a tall guy for a while, just tried to keep pushing myself. My goal was to stay under 9 for AP every mile. I passed a few people on the way to the finish and then just gave it my all the last few miles. There was a head wind and rain the entire time of course so I feel like I did great. It was tough but I just pushed as hard as I could at the end. Jeff was there cheering my in! They gave us chocolate milk, mini muffins and fruit cups. They also gave us a card with our official time and place. When I was getting my card I saw this girl again I thought I recognized and realized I've read her blog on marathon mommies. I read about her race @ Ogden marathon last year where she qualified for Boston. She had a lot of pictures and I've read this blog entry several times because she tells in detail about what she did that helped her qualify. She inspired me to try and qualify. I told her so. Anyway... good race!

Time 58:37 AP 9:47 Ran 6 miles in St. George. Left before the kids were up. Wanted to try out the path but it was closed because of construction so I ran on the stupid road. Took it easy. Cold out but not rainy. It rained all day Saturday and all day Sunday:( The soccer fields were complete mud cause the tournament was at a sod farm. Nice. We could tell everyone who was in our tournament the whole trip home cause their cars were covered in red mud.

Time 2:31:17 AP 10:05 Nothing like running 15 in a foot of snow. Okay, most the time it was slush on the busier roads but there were a few times we were in a foot of powder. Today was about getting the miles in. Left @ 5:45am and ran with Jill and Betsy. Jill left us halfway through cause she had to get home. My feet were wet @ mile 3. It was great. We went down Highland to Creek and up to Danish (yes the super steep hill) and up to Wasatch to 94th. Down 94th and took first left and went toward Dimple dell. Turned left and went down to Eastdell. Ran a minute there and Betsy turned left to take us up to the top of that neighborhood over to Sego Lily. All the way down to the library and toward home. She wanted to run all the way up that road, it's Petunia and turns into something else. anyway, I said go ahead but no more hills for me. We ran toward home and up Falcon (one last hill) and around the hood for the last few miles. I was wiped out! Never been so happy to get to a hot shower!!!

| | Time 2:36:54 AP 9:48 Left @ 5am and met Betsy and her dog Diesel. We ran almost 3 around home before we met up with Deb and her dog Hobbes and ran 8 with her. Went up Newcastle to the La Caille. That trail was my slowest mile cause it was pretty slick in spots. turned left on Wasatch for about .75 and turned left to go down Danish to Creek and up Highland. ran Deb home and stopped by my house to drop off my hat and headlight. sydney and Lizzie hadn't left for choir so I hurried and did Sydney's hair, sent Lizzie and Sydney off to choir, said goodbye to Jane, refilled my water bottle. Went back out with Betsy (who had gone home to drop her dog and change shirts) for 5(+ a little) more. Legs were very tired at the end but today's run was so much nicer than Saturday's! Weather was great except for a headwind here and there. So grateful for clear streets on this long run. My feet were still sore in spots from Sat. run so I was a little worried but made it through okay today. Need a nap today but still need to finish cleaning for our trip and have to host the 8 and 9 yr old girl scouts today. Yipee!

Left @ 7am and went ALL BY MYSELF! Weather was great! I could have gone at 6am with Jill and Deb but didn't want to go that early and kind of wanted to go alone. My husband and I made a plan that I would run to the school in Draper where Lizzie had soccer practice this morning and he would drive me home. So...I ran around here for a 1.5 and then went up, took the road north of Newcastle and went all the way up and around down and turned left and went over to 94th. Went up Eastdell and turned left just south of the school (this is the route Lysa and I would run last year). Went up to the where the rooster crows and I start seeing lots of horses. Ran up to the top of Dimple Dell trail head and turned down dimple dell road. took it all the way around. Saw more horses and a REINDEER (fenced in). I had to stop, it was so cool. Ran all the way over east of the cemetery and to Lone peak elementary and over to Wasatch. Went down wasatch to 17th and turned right. Up a hill and all the way back to 106th. Turned left and went down to Carnation(10 east) and ran down to 123rd. Her soccer practice was a Sprucewood. Jeff and Lizzie passed me and honked and I still had a little under a mile to go when I got to the school so I ran down 123rd and turned right before 7th onto a side road where I finished. FUN FUN! Jeff drove me home. We stopped at Maverik for a chocolate milk. Now I'm going to eat some yummy oranges that came straight from the trees in CA yesterday! They are scrump! Garmin time is 49:51 with AP 8:00. Official time was 49:49 with AP 8:01 so not sure why it says 8:02 but whatever. PR! Splits-7:36,7:44,7:58, 8:04, 8:19,8:32, (ha ha, slower and slower) 7.11 for .23 (sprinting to the finish) It was fun to run a race "with" my husband and we're both excited we'll be running the St. George marathon for the first time this year!! It was a beautiful drive to Ivins with the sun rising and the big red mountain rocks at Snow Canyon. Weather was cooler than I thought it would be up the canyon. There were rain clouds and some wind at the start line, but it never rained. I guess we should have started more toward the front cause I spent the first 1.5 or so miles trying to pass people. At mile 3 I noticed a cute, little, older lady in front of me that I was hoping to pass. I just couldn't seem to catch her. I sped up coming down that last stretch before we turned to the finish. I sped up more and started gaining on her. Then I sprinted to pass her. I did beat her by about 2 seconds. Kind of sad that I can barely beat a lady 20 yrs older than me. She was amazing!
It was a fun race. I'm too tired to write more details. Jeff had a great race and I'm proud of him! Oh, I think I saw RAD and Teena (teeny) Marie after the race but they have no idea who I am so I didn't say anything. Just admired from afar.
Jeff drove back to the trailer at Temple View Resort and I ran back. Had to run 17 miles today. It was a nice run but I took it way easy. The last 3 miles were tough! Time for the 10.8 was 1:53:23 AP 10:30. Fun to run on a paved path for most of it. Wish we had more of those here.

| | Time 44:40 AP 8:56 I actually ran farther cause I stopped my garmin to fix my ipod. Ran for about 4 min w/o it and fast too. I hate that. I went later today because my 13 yr old doesn't have school. There was a little blue sky and sun at the beginning of the run but it quickly disappeared. Hills were on the schedule for today. Ran Falcon hill twice for a total of 3 1/2 min. Ran over to Flat Iron and ran those hills 3 times total of 3 min. Then ran up 17th which took appr. 1 1/2 min. So TUT (total uphill time) 8 minutes. Tried to run the whole run as fast as I could but it got harder at the end and the cold wind didn't help. Got home just before it started rain/snowing. Came home and couldn't find my weight lifting dvd. I started doing Jillian's 30 day shred (8-10 min) until my 18 month old pulled my weights dvd out of the VCR (why do we still have one of those?) that sits right under the dvd player. Apparently one of my other kids took my weights dvd out and just set it on top of the player so she grabbed it and stuck it in the VCR. I watched her pull a Monster's Inc dvd out of there and decided to check for the one I was looking for and voila! So...Jackie Warner Upper body and abs cause after spending way too much time searching for it I didn't have time to do the whole thing. 30 min

FIRST TIME RUNNING ON JRP! LOVED IT! First 9 miles were on JRP and next 9 were around home. Wish I could have stayed on JRP the whole time. Maybe someday.
Jeff and I left @ 6:30am and drove down to Gardner Village to run on the JRP. He needed to run 9 so we ran 4.5 out (north) and back. That was my first time running there and I really liked it. Jeff has run on JRP quite a few times and I wish I had tried it sooner. The sun rise was beautiful and the river, geese and other birds were really cool. There was a black bird with a bright orange spot on each wing. Is it mating season cause they were puffing up and making a ringing sound, like a cell phone ring. They were everywhere. The JRP run was slow and easy cause Jeff's just getting back in to running. It was fun to run together. His ipod died so we ran w/o music which I liked. Heading back south there was a head wind. We then drove toward home and Jeff dropped me off at some park @ 114th and 17th. I used my music for this second half of the run. I ran east and hello wind! I basically ran part of my regular long route backwards. I ran up to the road that takes me over to dimple dell road. Ran that whole road and walked the very last steep part up to where I turn left and go past the trail head and down and turn left and go past where the rooster crows and down the Eastdell, turn right and then left down 98th? down the 17th and to Falcon where I finished under 3 hours. Not too bad. It was windy but WARM! Wore short sleeves and knee pants. Too bad there's a storm tomorrow but it'll warm back up. Gotta go shower for soccer games! Husband and kids are making "Good Eats" guys ice cream today. Excited to try it! Hope this makes sense and not too many errors cause i'm in a hurry! Good day all!

1 mile warm-up (6.2-6.7) and the next 5 @ 6.8-8:49 min mile. Sped up gradually last mile to 7.5 and then did 8.0 for last 20 seconds. Supposed to be "comfortably hard" but at times it was DANG hard! Good for me though. I realized yesterday that if I were to qualify for Boston at either marathon this year I need a 3:50:59 time cause I'll be 40 in 2012. After this year I'll need a 3:45 flat. So it's either this year or...like 5-10 yrs from now. Again, just a dream, but something I've been thinking about nonetheless. Just found out I'm staying at the Marriott right across from the bus loading area for the Ogden marathon. Sharing a room with my friend from Vegas! Woo hoo! Time 3:17:33 AP 9:53 I'm actually impressed we got in under 10. Tough run.
HOLY COW! Glad that one's over. Heavy snow for most of this run.
Positives about this run: 1) I ran with Deb and Jill. 2)It was light out when we started @ 6:30am. 3) There was no wind! 4)I heard some birds to remind me it is spring! 5)Very hilly!
Negatives: 1)Ran in my old shoes cause didn't want to ruin my nice new ones. 2) Wet feet for the majority of the run. 3)Sore right foot for majority of run. 4) Blister and sores cause of wet feet for majority of run. 5) Very hilly!
Deb (and dog Hobbs), Jill and I ran the first 8 miles together. Up Newcastle and then up trail (mistake because running through the snow for that 3rd mile greatly contributed to wet feet problem but I was just following the crowd who were not planning on running 20) to Wasatch. Turned left and went up Wasatch and then turned down to neighborhood and down to Creek (don't know names of all the streets). Left on Highland and back up to Newcastle. We ran Deb home (not sure why cause she's running Ogden and hasn't done any runs over 1.5 hours but whatev) and Jill decided to run 20 with me. How nice! She's running Provo marathon 4 wks from today. We ran down past Falcon and up to 94th. turned left @ 17th and ran over past the library and then aaaaaaaaaaall the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay up Sego Lily (huge hill). through the neighborhood and down to Eastdell for a min and then back up toward Dimple Dell. Turned left to go up to Wasatch before getting to the DD trail head. Back down where we came to Eastdell and down to 94th. Refilled my water @ 7-11 where I really wanted gatorade but didn't have $. Ran back home and Jill finished with me around home and then I drove her home. Fun! fun! Here's the (shortened version) song I sang as we ran: "The sun'll come out...tomorrow...so you gotta hang on till tomorrow...come what maaaaaaaaaaaay! tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya, tomorrow, you're only a daaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!

Walked Josie around the mile block to soak in some SUN before her nap and then had to run on the treadmill. Interval training-HILLS Ran a total of 9 minutes at a 10 incline during this 5 mile run. 3 sets of plank- 2 min, 1 min, 1 min After talking to Jeff @ lunch today I'm realizing my goal for Ogden marathon is to finish at 4 hrs or under (I already was planning on this). Then continue with speed work and training to qualify for Boston at St. George. It seems unrealistic to expect to cut 40 minutes off my marathon time from 1st to 2nd marathon in less than a year. I guess it wouldn't be impossible but... I think I could do it at St. George. I can't believe I'm typing this...saying it out loud...whatever. WAAAAAAHH!

Time 1:21:56 AP 10:15 Holy Cow that was hard. It was beautiful outside except for the wind. I left @ 12:30 and took Josie (18 mos) in an old jogger stroller that I borrowed from a friend. This was the second time I've ever run pushing a stroller. I prefer running without children. I needed to get up @ 5am this morn but I was too tired cause my 5 yr old was up with nightmares. It was great to be able to run in the sun and she slept the first half of the run, it's just hard to push that thing, especially with wind and hills. I'm glad I went. Legs are tired. I normally x-train today but I had to rearrange the schedule to rest tomorrow and do long run Friday cause we have to be in Springville for a baptism @ 9am on Saturday. Loved the sun, the green, the flowers and Josie was great for sitting so long in the stroller. Oh, I ran past a girl (twice) doing yoga in her driveway. Mat, music and all. Lys, come over tomorrow and we'll do some Bryan Kest out front. I think we should start at 3pm for the biggest audience (I live across from a school). Really though, I have actually wanted to go outside and do it on sunny days but I've never dared. She inspired me and I think I might try it. Way to go girl! |

Time 1:06:22 AP 9:29 Beautiful morning in St. George. Stayed at Las Palmas condos and had a great view from our condo of the beautiful greenness and red mountains. 80's all week and swimming at the pool everyday. Great vacation! Ran by myself around the condos and golf course (Sunbrook) area. Guess I should try the mountain bike trails right there but didn't. Ran up big hill back to the condo toward the end.

Beautiful. Long. Lonely St. George run. Jeff dropped me off in Veyo at 7am and the sun was rising. I ran 9 miles of the marathon route, beginning with the big Veyo hill. It was me, my music, some cows, horses and road kill. That right turn around mile 7 was gorgeous as you turn and see snow canyon and run down a big hill. I tried cran rasp (I think) shot blocks during this run and liked them. At mile 9 I got to the top of snow canyon state park and got on the path. Very hilly path. There were some very steep downs and ups, esp toward the end. Maybe that trail is more meant for bikers. That was a long spell on that path. I think I was there until around mile 17? Turned to go toward Ivins on that path for a minute and then turned right and and left ran under the road and took a path down toward town. I refilled my water at a park around there. Took the path to Dixie drive which took me down past the condo. I stayed on Dixie cause I didn't want to run up the big hill. Ran to the fun park and had Jeff pick me up there. 21!!!!!!! Weather was perfect. It was cold in Veyo, I had on long sleeves over a tank and shorts on. I took off the long sleeves @ mile 10. The sun was up for most of the run but it was wasn't too hot. Always a nice coolness in the air. Loved running in St. George all week!

Treadmill run. Will be doing a lot of those this week because I have to be at the school every morning at 7 for choir practice in prep for the performance. It'll all be over thurs. So, ran a 6.0-6.5 to warm up for first .50 and then ran @ 6.5 the rest of the time with 5 minutes of TUT (total uphill time) 10% incline. Did a hill every mile and didn't slow down. Man it seemed like it took me forever to recover each time. I have a really hard time eating "clean" while on vacation (all last week) and I too much Easter candy yesterday. I miss the sun and the 80 degrees:( At least it's nice and green here.

Legs were a bit tired from yesterdays cross training.

| | Was supposed to leave @ 7am to run with friends but there was a FOOT of SNOW on the ground this morning. I was completely shocked! Had no idea it would snow that much. I texted them to go without me cause I didn't want to do another long run with wet feet. So...10 mile TM run this morning in 1:37:30 AP 9:45. Longest TM ever but ya do what ya have to do. Next 10 miles in the late afternoon with my husband. There was some blue sky out west and very dark, stormy clouds east. We ran right into a snow storm with a head wind. It didn't last long thanks goodness and the blue sky reappeared. Later it got quite warm and sunny and gorgeous! The trees are so pretty with the blossoms. It was cold and windy one more time for a while and then cleared up. CRAZY weather!!!!
So the second 10 took 1:35:27 in 9:33. Splits= 9:22, 9:44, 10:15, 8:48, 10:25(huge hill), 9:12, 9:44, 9:55, 8:59, 9:04 Last long run before the marathon. Next week's 14. I don't know if I'll do another spring marathon. This winter training is killer.

I ran straight in to a strong head wind to start out. the first 4.50 miles were hills, wind, and ended with a dead end trail at the top of the bottom of the mountain:) I had to hurry home cause that all took too long. Here are my funny splits for "recovery run." 9:53, 10:10, 10:34, 10:49 (hello! dead end trail I had never been on ), 9:41, 8:21, 8:12, 8:18 (flat). Bryan Kest Power Yoga 2! 51 minutes.

Went early and didn't feel too great. Headache and body soreness. I took another route I don't usually take that ended with more hills which is unavoidable around here. I guess I should have done speed work today but didn't feel like it. It was a clear, cool, beautiful morning. Not a cloud in the sky. I was heading east for the first few miles of the run and I turned to head west just in time to see the sun touch the snow capped mountains out west. Pretty pink color. Then later at the end of the run I was heading east in time to see the sun touching down on those mountains. Pretty cool. But the best part of my run was that right when I finished around home I saw my best bud LYSA come around the corner. It was so great to see her! We talked for a while before she went to finish her run. She is an amazing woman, sister, daughter, wife, friend, etc. She is a wonderful caregiver to her family members and she is awesome for that and many other reasons. Love you Lys!

JRP @ 6:15am with my husband Jeff. 2nd time ever running on the JRP. We started @ 72nd and went to somewhere in Taylorsville (James M Park?). This run was harder than I thought it was going to be. I know sometimes I complain about the hills around home but I'm always coming down/speeding up the second half of the run because of it. I tried hard to finish strong on this run but it was tough! I'm thinking I'm a little embarrassed that I even mentioned hoping to qualify for Boston in the near future. I'll be happy to get in around 4 hrs @ Ogden which was my goal anyway, but the rules change before St. George I found out so...no Boston anytime soon. Unless someone out there wants to be my coach and whip me into shape before St. George. I feel like I need a food coach and a running coach. Anyone?????:) My fastest mile was a 9:01. I feel like I should be able to run faster than that at this point but...whatever! Can only do my best! Favorites parts of this run= *running with my husband *seeing Teena Marie running with some tall guy. I almost called her name but thought "what if it's not her!" guess I should have cause I'm like 95 percent sure it was her.
*all the geese but especially the family of geese and the 8 or so fuzzy, baby chicks! so cute. When we came upon them Jeff switched sides to protect me from them cause I'm afraid of being bit (by the scary big ones protecting their little ones right)? I thought that was cute. Thanks honey.
*Awesome weather!!!! And the all time favorite part of this run... *A woman pushing her little DOG in a baby stroller. Never seen THAT before. So because I saw this today I have to tell you what I saw last night. I took my two youngest daughters to the playground. There was a woman there who took her DOG ON the playground. She walked the dog up the stairs, through the tube and up to the slide. I stood there with my mouth half open but kept quiet cause my 1 yr old was amazed by this dog. The dog sat right in front of the entrance to the two slides that my kids were trying to go down. She was talking baby talk and giving the dog treats. We were all just staring in disbelief and I was waiting for her to take the dog down the slide but it didn't happen. She walked the dog back the way they came and left. Not sure what that was all about.
I'm so grateful to be able to run at all and will stop complaining about not running faster!

Time 1:22:59 AP 9:13 6 am Recovery run I wonder if I'll ever get to wear capris/shorts and short sleeves in the morning. It was cool, but beautiful morning with lots of clouds hanging out over the snow covered mountains. No rain during the run which I was a little worried about and I swear I heard a woodpecker. Kind of excited to start tapering:) Any suggestions on what do to after Ogden to kick it into high gear to BQ @ St. George? K maybe that's a dumb question to ask on this blog.

Cross training Total body circuit training with weights-40 minutes Power Yoga-52 minutes Plan on walking at least 2 fast miles around the big block with my daughter in the stroller. SO excited to see the sun again while driving carpool this morning! Hope it stays.
I guess I know what to do to BQ. (See yesterdays post) I'm wondering what to do for a training schedule between Ogden and St. George. Ogden is my 2nd marathon and I've been really strict in following a schedule for both marathons I've run. Like, I have the schedule printed and it's on the fridge and I follow it religiously. Wondering if other people do this or if you just try and run at least 8-10 miles a day during the week and a longer run on the weekend. Do I still have a cross training day w/o running and a rest day before long runs? I want to be smart and not run myself into the ground. BUT I'll do whatever it takes to try and qualify!

Time 52:30 AP 8:45 Tempo run 9:57, 9:24, 9:12, (flat and up) 8:05, 7:54, 7:57 (down and flat)
I started out slow and thought this might just have to be a slow run. I pinched a nerve in my back yesterday (left side) and it killed! The weird thing is, it was while I was driving! I turned to look right and BAM! What? I couldn't turn or bend down. I did the best I could the rest of the day. Then while I was bathing Josie it tweaked again! I think I cussed and seriously had to crawl out of the bathroom very slowly. I called to have my older daughter get her out of the tub. She (Josie) was worried about me and kept saying "Mom! Mom!" I was freaking out a little because this has never happened to me. A spasm, a nerve, I have no idea what this is. I slept okay. Got up to run and it was hurting a little when I first started but then gradually got better. So the entire time since this happened I've been praying it would go away. Please don't let this be something serious so close to the marathon. Please let this go away!!! Well...running this morning seemed to help. I told myself, just run and do what feels good and don't look at the watch. (I did look when I started feeling better) I felt so good! I wore my first pair of capri tights and they're super comfortable. I think that helped me run faster:) The weather was beautiful! I wanted to have a great last tempo run before Ogden. Hopefully the pinched nerve thing will go away. I can still feel it but not too bad.

| | Time 1:20:01 AP 10:00 8 early and easy with Ashley and Emma. First time running with the two of them! Weather was AMAZING! Wore my trusty capri tights and a t-shirt FINALLY! This was Ashley's (my sister, on the blog) first 8 mile run ever and she was awesome!!! She is training for her first half marathon (Utah Valley) and I'm so excited for her! I'm also excited we can run together and look forward to more runs with these two. At mile 6 we ran into Lysa and it was so fun to run some with her. My sister Amber was supposed to come up from Traverse Mountain to run with us but couldn't. Sounds like we have enough to do a fun running group in the future for some long runs! Look forward to running again with all of you guys! Emma and Lysa are running Ragnar and I was sad to find out Lysa is running with another team because WE need her. We're looking for 2 more runners!!! Loving this taper and looking forward to next week!

Ogden Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:05:03, Place overall: 857, Place in age division: 86
WOW! I can't believe I ran another marathon! I still think it's a crazy thing to do. Where do I start. This may be more embellished then people want to read but it's my only blog so I'm writing it ALL here:) Splits walking through water stations. Bolded the one's I'm proud of- 8:47, 8:58, 8:56, 8:37, 9:14, 8:43, 8:36, 9:11,8:58, 8:56, 8:56, 9:22, 9:00,10:08,(mile 14 hill) 9:58, 8:53, 9:10, 8:52, 9:24, 9:27, 9:57,(mile 21-finally saw Allie)! 10:11,(why so slow after seeing Allie?) 9:16, 10:09,(so darn tired and wanting to walk but didn't) 9:37, 9:25, 8:55 (last .49) The last mile I replayed Mat Kearney's "Hey Mama" and that carried me to the finish line. I stayed with the beat even though it was so tough at that point.
My best friend, (since I was 2 yrs old) Cathy came up from Vegas to run this with me. Her husband and friend came with her. This was her and her husband's first marathon. They have done a lot of triathlon's and decided to try a marathon. She ran with an injured IT band (so running slow for her) that started hurting toward the end but she still beat me by a minute. Tough chick. Apparently her slow pace is my fast pace. She carried me through this marathon. It was sprinkling when we came out to catch the bus at 5am. We were praying it would clear up and it did when we got to the top. We were let out in a wide open cow/horse pasture at the top where all the POP's were. I was seriously stepping over huge cow puckies, dungs, whatever you call them. There was mud too but I tried to keep my beautiful blue launches as clean and dry as I could:) There were fire pits all over and that was cool. Kept us warm till the start. I saw RAD and glidergirl so I introduced myself and they were really nice and friendly. They pointed out Teena Marie in one POP line and Smooth in another. Cool to see these FRB people in person. We lined up with the 4hr pacer at the start and the sun was shining BRIGHT! It was a beautiful day for a long run. Cathy and I stayed together for most the run. After the first canyon we came down toward Eden I think and someone was blaring the song "Here Comes The Sun" from huge speakers. That was fun. We were flat for what seemed like forever and then rolling hills around the reservoir. I came upon RAD and Smooth around mile 11 I think. We passed them and I said hi to Rachel again and said "Hey Smooth you don't know me but I know you from the blog!" They ended up passing me at the half marathon water break while I waited for Cathy in the POP and I never caught them again. We were still ahead of the 4hr pacer at this point and heading up the hill (14). Cathy and I decided to start using music at this point. Coming down the hill the pacer caught up and I stayed with the group coming down the hill to the canyon. LOVED this part. A nice cool wind and some downhill. I was loving this part. I stayed with the pacer until mile 18 I think. He cruised through that water stop and I never caught him again. UGH! I was getting tired! I was looking for Allie starting at mile 18 and I'm pretty sure I saw her at 21 right? She was so cute and handed me a bag with jelly bellies! What a sweetheart (I was teasing and asked her to have jelly bellies when I saw and she actually did)! There was a guy with her and I said "Are you James?" Yes it was. I asked if I could just stay with them and James said no, go run so I did. Ran back and gave Allie a hug. Love that girl:) It was fun to run so close to the river. It was SO high and raging. Nice and shady but I was getting tired and kept wanting more downhill for some reason. Cathy kept having to stop and stretch but she always caught up with me. I told her not to stay with me if she felt good. She said she was giving it her all! She must have had a little more to give cause she left me around mile 23/24 and I didn't see her again till the finish line. It was nice and shady along the path and it was nice to run with the water beside. The problem with walking through the water stations toward the end is that I wanted to keep walking. I got a yummy, small otter pop at mile 24(?) and just ran through the last water station right before the mile stretch home. The last 3 miles on that path and home I just tried to give it all I had. I wanted to finish strong no matter how tired I was! I cranked the music and got in the zone! I was passing quite a few people. I passed two guys who were walking on the last mile who were cussing/talking to themselves. Looked like they were cramping up. I just pushed as hard as I could. Like I said earlier, stayed with the beat of "Hey Mama" and ran as hard as I could! I was hoping to be closer to 4 but I'm really happy with my time. 23:40 faster than my first marathon. PR!

Another year gone (they're all growing up too fast), they're also all home all day.... no more alone time in the pm while Josie naps and I do yoga, etc...etc....it's an adjustment.

Time 57:58 AP 9:40 Another beautiful morning. Another beautiful run (mostly with Jeff). This past week I've been feeling a "growing pain" in my right quad. I don't know how else to describe it. It's sort of an aching that I have to shake out. It comes and goes. Weird. Also, I may not even be at the finish line (UV) this Sat. now cause Lizzie has a soccer tourney. Sad for two of my sisters who trained for it and are now injured so one is for sure not running and the other is still deciding. Glad the third sister, Ashley is healthy and running her first half marathon! Go Ash!

Time 2:05:59 AP 9:33 Ran the UV half marathon with my husband Jeff, sister and her two friends and my niece. I didn't get a lot of sleep Thurs. night and then only 3.5 hrs Friday night so I was very tired before the race and feel weird and sore and super tired since the race even though it was fairly easy long run for me. I was helping my sister through her first half marathon and she did great! Jeff was ahead of us the whole time and said he came in 15 min. before us. I'm proud of him and impressed with his time because he didn't run all last week because of illness. Good job Jeff! Ashley, Emma and I crossed the finish line together and it was so fun to run with them. I had to tease Emma about running a Utah Valley race because she is a huge ute fan. I made sure to point out the Y on the mountain when we passed and the Lavell Edwards stadium. I also sang my school fight song as we passed PHS. I was born and raised in Provo:) Fun day! I didn't take any gus this race and I had to pee during the race. Both firsts for me. I still have weird cramping in my right leg and have had it since running Ogden marathon. It feels like my leg is having a contraction. It comes and goes. I want it to stop. On to Wasatch Back for next weekend.

Time 57:19 AP 9:33 Not included are 3 hill sprints I did with Jeff @ 10 seconds each. We timed each other. Did 4 recovery (for him, not me, he raced, i didn't) with Jeff and then did the hill sprints. I then did 2 more by myself. 5th mile I was still recovering from the last hill sprint and my last mile I tried to push it so 8:54. I'm already sore from the hill sprints:) Beautiful morning for running. Cloudy, which means cold for the girlies in 8:30 swim lessons. My 9th grader has summer PE for the next 2 and 1/2 weeks from 7:30-11am. So much for lazy summer mornings. Jeff's on the blog now. Well, he's being approved. Time 1:23:29 AP 9:50 Sleep was interrupted @ 2:30am by a thunder/lightning storm. I waited for my 6 year old to show up any minute cause I knew she'd wake up and be scared. She came in and asked if she could sleep in the middle. I thought that was cute. She's never said that before. Carried her back when the storm was over so I could get some sleep. Did 4 by myself around home, down 86th, up waters and falcon. Tried to keep up good speed on the hill. Came home to make sure Jane was up and say goodbye before she went to PE. Left to do 4 more and saw Lysa up ahead about to cross the intersection. It took me a while to catch her but I did and we ran together which was so fun! It's been a while. Time 47:28 AP 9:53 1st run of Wasatch Back. Runner 12. Started @ 6:38pm
rated "Very Hard" Freak'in HUGE hill up to Snow Basin. pulled my right piriformis muscle sometime during this run. my chest was burning for a few hours after this run. I think I started out too fast. the downhill before the final climb to the finish really saved my AP. I booked it down and was so happy to be running down!
ps. I'm never again calling Newcastle a hill.

Wasatch Back cont...
Leg 24 =Time 1:06:58 AP 9:54
5:47am
"HARD" (esp since I think I pulled my right piriformis muscle during my first run so I didn't have full range of motion on my right leg for the first 3 miles. then it got better) I saw a colt nursing and later I saw a dead deer off the side of the road. I think I had 12 kills on this run and there was a cute blond girl who passed me but I eventually caught her on the downhill (the short section of downhill). We stayed together till the end and she helped me stay strong. We sprinted to the finish together and missed the chute and had to duck back under the orange divider to get to the right place. Thank you cute girl for helping me finish strong! After this run I no longer had the right butt muscle issue I guess it worked itself out during this run. I didn't think I'd get through those first 3 miles and I was slow cause of it. I kept praying it would go away and I guess it worked. I didn't bring my water belt and got water/powerade at the first station but the next two were abandoned so I was very thirsty at the end. No van support on any of my legs! bleh!
Leg 36, another "HARD" =Time 1:12:38 AP 10:06 3:16pm
I took my water belt on this run. I could tell that everyone on this run was beat/tired whatever cause I passed a lot of guys who were walking. I didn't even see the van drive by here cause they had to shuttle to the finish. Started at Deer Valley and ran toward a neighborhood with HILLS of course. Common denom in all my runs. I think I had another 13 kills on this run at least. After the neighborhood we went down a trail that went straight down. I have no experience with this so I just hoped the people in front of me did and I followed them. It was a fun change. We turned onto a paved path along the highway. Well I could see the highway. I was hurting in odd places all over my body. My neck was hurting on the left front side. What??? I also remember my legs feeling like they were just going to buckle out from under me at any minute at this point in my run. I don't know if it was because of that steep trail that I probably ran too fast. I was praying that feeling would pass soon. I just had to tell myself "keep going...almost done...I also took a swig of gatorade while running around here and inhaled it down the wrong place and started coughing and ugh! We crossed and headed toward the school but had to get over a hill with winding trails through ugly bushes. We could see how much farther and all the hills and tons of people were walking. Head wind, heat, I was so ready to be done! It seemed never ending. We eventually headed up and down and to the road that took us to the finish. I gave it my all and my whole team was waiting at the finish. They formed a tunnel for me and I almost started crying. I sprinted to the finish with them right behind me! So happy to be done. WAY TO GO TEAM UNCOMFORTABLY NUMB!!!

8:00pm weird for me to run @ this time but summer schedule is weird.
Holy Cow my quads still feel so tender! They didn't even feel this way 3 days after the marathon. Stupid Ragnar Runner 12! I don't remember feeling this bushed after 2008 Ragnar. I'm still really tired and sore.
I ran around Flat Iron Park which isn't flat at all. Sydney and Cami played on the big hill while Liz pushed Josie in the stroller. Jeff and Jane were at youth night. The honeysuckle is blooming so I smelled that wonderfulness each time I ran around the east side. It wasn't as hot as I thought it would be. Really nice out. The sky was so blue behind the snow capped mountains. I don't want it to melt up there. I saw a lot of people I know at the park. It was fun!

| | Time 58:36 AP 9:46 Still feeling it in the quads. 6am run in shorts and it was beautiful out there! I forgot to say that I say Ed Yeates (ksl news) walking around Flat Iron when I ran last night. that's the second time I've seen him there. He said hi to me as I passed. Cool. This morning I again smelled the honeysuckle! Love that! Love this time of year. I think it usually blooms in May though right? On my way up (2 mile) I saw a robin on the street pretty close to the gutter that didn't fly away as I got closer so I figured it must be injured. He was jerking his head all crazy like he was going crazy cause he couldn't fly. how scary for him. anyway, I looked for him on my way back down (5 mile) and he had fluttered himself almost to the middle of the road. I didn't want him to get run over so I started slowly walking toward him and telling him he needed to get on the grass. I tried to pick him up and he was freaking out of course! I just inched closer and closer till he fluttered up onto the grass. I had to hurry home so hopefully he stayed on the grass. Do these injured birds get better if they don't get run over or eaten first? Kind of sad. Poor bird. Hopefully he'll be okay. He was just squawking at me with his little beak wide open the whole time I was trying to help him. He must have been terrified! Sorry bird. I was only trying to help and I hope you're okay. I haven't been on there since winter. Ran all the way down to 13th, well almost, Smith's market. Ran over to the library and took Petunia toward home. Left on 17th and ran to Falcon Park. Refilled my water and ran up Falcon (gotta love a big hill in the last mile) and home. I need a schedule for SGM. Don't feel like I can train properly without one. | | 3 on the TM and 3 outside on the deck of the ship. It's easier to run at sea level. Well, I was running at a 7.0 and it didn't feel hard like it does at home. What was harder about the run was on the TM I was getting more of a core workout than usual trying to keep from falling off the TM as I went side to side with the ship. | | 30 minutes hike and walking today. We went humpback whale watching in Juneau. According to our guide we were able to witness a rare site with these whales that were bubble net feeding. They would all jump out of the water with their mouths open catching and eating all the fish they had fooled. They make a bunch of bubbles and fool the fish into thinking they're caught in a net so they don't swim away and they come up and eat them. There was also a young whale that kept breeching but we had a hard time getting it on tape cause it happened so quick. He would come shooting out of the water and do a little twist. It was amazing! We saw some seals laying around on a buoy too.
After whale watching we went to the Mendenhall glacier and went on a hike. It was a huge glacier and we walked to a huge waterfall. It was raining. This place was gorgeous! Looked like the garden of Eden might have I imagine.
|
| | Walked several miles around Sitka, Alaska! Saw lots of eagles and totem poles. Beautiful, lush green forest everywhere! Raining. Went to a Raptor reserve and saw eagles, owls, hawks and a falcon close up. Some were injured and not able to fly. Some were being nursed back to health to be reintroduced into the wild. It was cool. |
| | It was pouring rain and freezing cold in Ketchikan, Alaska but still beautiful. We hoped to see a bear on our tour but didn't. I wanted to go on the zip line but it was too cold and rainy. Lame. |

All done on the TM. It was stormy and Jeff fell off his TM. It was hard to stay on but I found that the faster I ran, the easier it was. I watched some movie on TNT called Invasion with Nicole Kidman. Ended our cruise in Victoria, British Columbia. Went to Butchart Gardens. Amazing, beautiful place! We only had a few hours and most of them were in the dark. We got home last night and I feel like I'm still on the boat. I'm not even getting on the scale cause I'm sure I'll just chuck it against the wall. Jeff apparently weighed himself and told me he didn't gain any weight. Jerk. There was a funny magician/comedian on board named Leo. We went to two of his shows and another one he did with some others comedians. He was hilarious and the best entertainment on the ship. He reminded me of Scott Smith. Kind of looked like him. I had fun but I'm glad I'm home.

Wasn't planning on running because I didn't sleep much and am still recovering from the cruise. I'm freaking out a little cause my 22 month old started climbing out of her crib while we were gone. So sure enough, last night at midnight while I was brushing my teeth she came in my bathroom and scared the crap out of me! I've never seen her just appear in my bedroom in her entire life! I'm worried about what this will do to my morning running routine. May have to use the lock on the door and I guess we're getting rid of the crib now. Jeff came downstairs with a training schedule for SGM and it called for 3 for today. Intermediate schedule. I ran at 2pm in the rain and it felt good! Thank goodness it was raining. I was supposed to run 7 yesterday but I didn't go in the morning and it never happened. I was going to go around 8:30 or 9pm but then there was that huge downpour and I had to take pictures of the kids playing outside in it. Our gutter was like a river and they had a bunch of fun. Love summer storms! So...up @ 5:30am. It's a must! Ran alone even though Jeff was going out too. I ran into Jill. Well, I saw her up ahead around mile 2 and got close enough to call her name and she stopped (some other ladies helped flag her down to get her attention). It was good to see her and run with her. Haven't run together since winter. She ran a half marathon on Mon. and came in second and last:) Small race :) I just ran with her, she was doing the key bank run which has a couple of steep hills at the end (up Alta Canyon and up highland). I ran her home and ran another 2.3 miles around her hood and back home. Did Bryan Kest Power Yoga 1-52 minutes as soon as I got home. I'm really sore from doing it Mon. Over to Sego Lily, turned on Buttercup and down to library/petunia to 1700 to Falcon and walked home up the short cut path.Totally sore from total body circuit and hill sprints yesterday. I've been trying to eat better this week cause of the cruise last week. I'd been doing great yesterday. Walked in the door after taking Lizzie to soccer game and Jane had made yummy peanut butter cookies. It's also between 4 and 5 pm, my weakest time of day (want to eat crap) My first instinct is "Do not eat one!" Then I convince myself to "just have one!" and forget that that never happens! Ate way too many. I don't know when I'll realize I'm not one of those people who can "eat whatever they want because I run" and I'm not one who can "eat just one." Ugh. I'm feeling extra stressed so that's another reason I gave in. Emotional eater. Josie is almost 2 and I hope she and I both survive before she turns 2 and I turn 40. I'm too old for this. When Jeff and got home all three youngest kids were awake to greet us because Josie had climbed out of her crib and woken them up. I've always been able to be completely relaxed putting Josie down for nap and bed and I don't feel that anymore cause she won't stay. I need to clean out her room of all hazards and shut/lock her door I think cause this is too much. Sorry so long. Bryan Kest Power Yoga 1- 52 minutes

I was annoyed going in to this and then I just felt like crap while running and I really wanted to quit. My legs felt so heavy. Does running ever get easy? I feel like I shouldn't be struggling anymore but I guess we all have our bad days right? I decided to just run 5 out and 5 back cause I had to be home right on time. The second half of the run was better then the first. I am SO grateful to be able to run! I'm grateful for the beautiful mountains that still have snow on them in July. As I was driving home with Lizzie yesterday I was overwhelmed with the beauty of the mountains, the blue sky and the big, puffy white clouds surrounding the green and white topped mountains. What a beautiful place we live in. I mean...have you ever been to Kansas??? I told Lizzie we take this for granted if we're born and raised here and we need to appreciate it as not everyone is lucky enough to live in such a gorgeous area! Anyway...I love living by the mountains and love being able to run up and down them and stay in the shade longer in the mornings, etc. Love it!!!

This was my first time doing this workout and I had done all these moves before with Jillian, Bryan Kest and Jackie Warner EXCEPT the double leg stretch with a lat pullover with 5 pound weights. This was a TOUGH move and I could feel it "ripping" my abs. She also did core body hops which were fun and I must try these moves again soon! Can't forget the plank move with a leg lift either. During the first mile a friend of mine who was out running, ran up behind us and said "Hey, I have some bad news. (My daughter) and I have LICE!" This daughter was over playing with my daughter (6 yr olds) yesterday afternoon for a few hours. They jumped on the tramp and ran through sprinklers and her daughter was hugging my 1 yr old all over the place. UGH! So she ran with us and we talked about what I need to do to hopefully nip this in the bud if we did get the bug. This is ALL I need on top of everything else I'm worried about. STINK! Time 1:21:19 AP 9:02 9 mile pace run by myself. Decided to give it a try. I've been a real wimp with a bad attitude lately and have refused to try the pace runs with Jeff. I gave it a go this morning and I did it!!! Did my usual 9 mile route. Here are splits: 8:56, 9:05, 9:37, 8:37, 9:47 (Eastdell hill), 8:38 (favorite mile, favorite song, flying downhill with a great view of the Jordan River temple), 8:54, 9:16, 8:29. Happy! I just keep thinking what would I be capable of if I stopped eating crappy and dropped 10-15lbs. Eating clean is SO hard for me lately. I think I need school to start. Wow! That was a late, (left @ 7am) long, slow, painful run. But I did it. And that's all that matters:) It was surprisingly cool for most of the run but I still hate running in the sun.
First 45 mile week ever. Pretty cool. I feel strong. I feel sore. Jeff thinks I'm not getting enough fuel. But it may also have something to do with the fact that I did a 9 mile pace run yesterday. Congrats to Jeff on his first ever 19 mile run! Just saw Harry Potter with my two oldest and having dinner with friends tonight. It's a good thing cause I need to eat something other than popcorn today. Fun day! Namaste everybody.

Woke up @ 6:10am to drop Jane off at Pioneer Trek. I'll miss her all week. Kind of wish I was going cause I think it would be cool to go to Martin's Cove. I'm planning on 4 yrs from now when 2 of my kids will be going. Ran 5 miles alone @ 7:15am. I ran down around Falcon and all the way up Falcon way. My legs and feet and still pretty sore from the weekend runs. I'm trying to not think about my mileage for this week. Just taking it a day at a time so I don't freak myself out. Time 1:40:50 AP 10:05 Jeff and I left at the same time but I ran alone. I guess it must say pace run on the schedule but I feel like I'm still recovering. My legs are still tired and my feet sore. During the first mile, when I could see Jeff way out in front of me, I was wondering how in the hell I was going to run 10 miles today and then I saw Lysa!:) She ran with me for a couple of miles and it was great to see and talk with her. Anyway, I ran the 10. Nothing to write home about. Walked .6 home from the park. Going to order some discounted Glycerin 8's online right now.
Power Yoga 1- 52 minutes. I really needed this. Namaste.

Time 1:40:32 AP10:03
Went by myself this morning. Beautiful cool morning. Beautiful sunrise. During the second mile I almost got hit by a newspaper deliverer that was racing around the streets. Sheesh! I also saw Jeff riding his bike during this mile (still around home) but he didn't see me until some girls running towards me screamed from sprinkler water hitting them. Jeff looked back and I waved. Looking back now I should have biked with him or swam this morning. During the last half of this run my left shin, the lower part of it, started hurting. I wore new shoes this morning and kept thinking "It can't be the shoes it's gotta be the mileage I'm putting in." I mean, I've been running in glycerins and been fine. It just got worse and worse throughout the run, spreading down into my foot. I stretched around mile 7. I saw the hot air balloons that were out this morning and that was cool. Jeff rode up behind me at mile 8 and I told him I was just trying to finish let alone run fast cause I was in pain. He rode beside me for a while. After he left me some guy tried to flip a u in the middle of the road RIGHT where I was trying to run. HELLO PEOPLE! Seriously? So now I'm pissed. I've never felt anything this bad. I want to cry and I don't know what to do. In the back of my mind I kept thinking this schedule was too much for me and I should cross train, then rest, then do long run. Now I'm paying for not following my instinct. I just thought if I took it slow I'd be okay but maybe...crap, I don't know what I did wrong but I really want to swear right now! I don't even know if I should stretch it or do yoga cause it feels worse than something that needs to be stretched. I took my kids to the doctor this morning and I could barely walk. It really hurts when I try and flex my foot. So lower shin and into my foot. Whatever that's called. Ugh! Happy Birthday to my baby Josie who is 2 today!

Watched my 12 yr old catch the bus for her first day of 7th grade across the street this morning. Snapped some pictures of her and her cute friends. They were all so excited and nervous! Took my 3 youngest on a walk over to my sister's house this morning. Took about 30 minutes.
Power Yoga-52 minutes (I forgot to say yesterday that I totally twisted my ankle during my first mile yesterday. I swore, stopped for a minute and then kept going. This morning my foot and knee were a little sore from it. Same foot as other injury. It's fine. I'm sure).

| | Time 1:58:17 AP 9:52 The middle miles of this run were hills and more hills. Went with Jeff. Felt good until the last 2 miles when my legs were very heavy and I felt slow (9:23 and 9:33) but I guess it wasn't that slow. We ran into Lysa at the top of Newcastle when we came off the trail. She ran home with me. Jeff pulled ahead but he was in my sight the whole time. SO happy to be running and feeling no pain in my left shin! Soccer games, HEAT, swimming and sprinklers in the back yard. Movie and dinner later with Jeff. School starts Monday! Woo hoo!

What a nice surprise! We ran most of the way together. The sunrise was beautiful with the pink clouds. Thanks for making my run more exciting this morning Lys! My 12 yr old is having surgery @ primary children's tomorrow on both of her feet. She has tarsal coalition and the pain is becoming unbearable. She'll be in a wheelchair for 1-2 weeks so I don't know what I'll be able to run in the next week, or how the rest of my training will go for SGM. I told Jeff he has priority since this is his first marathon and I'll just do what I can. We'll just have to see how it goes.

20 with Jeff. I felt great the whole run due to 4 jet blackberry gu's (2x caffeine) that Jeff bought. Last two miles were pretty hard though. We ran 5 around home (saw a dead calico cat in the road, sad) and then ran over to Draper. Jeff almost got hit by a biker on dimple dell. He's not allowed to run on that road anymore. He was almost hit by a car in the same spot a few weeks ago and today I was behind him and saw this biker (not a real biker, some dope without a helmet in regular clothes going super fast) almost crash into him. Next time he's walking down that steep hill on the sidewalk! It partly his fault cause he runs in the middle of the road down this hill for some reason. Anyway...great run. Felt good to run 20. Thanks Lysa for picking us up in Draper! I didn't decide till this morning really that I was running this 20 cause I wanted to make sure Lizzie was okay. Jane said she would come upstairs and be with Liz so I could run and Liz said she felt fine and to go ahead. She took her pain meds before I left and I took my phone with me. All was well. Lizzie is recovering well and we're going up to Midway today for Timms family reunion. All my kids are excited to see their cousins and Lizzie's excited to go up and sit in a wheelchair all day:) Did I really run 45.15 miles this week. hm.

1:04:14 AP 10:02 Woo hoo for Sept. 1st and woo hoo for a cooler morning! Wore long sleeves and shorts! Went alone at 6:30am. Went down by Peruvian park and over to Viscounti. Up Alta Canyon and turned right on Snow Mountain Rd I think. Ran up and got on to Alta Canyon for a minute and ran up to Albion (Quail Hollow) and up. Then turned right and went to Falcon Way and then back past Albion and down home. Saw Jeff on that side road (dang I looked at the road sign and can't remember the name) off NC. Took it slower today. I walked home from Burt Brother's on 13th (they're fixing our brakes) pushing Josie in the stroller and then around the block when we got home so she could run a little. Yeppo. I think it's supposed to be even cooler tomorrow morning. Maybe even cold! Oh and...30 days! |

1:59:29 AP 9:57 Phew! Made it under 2 hours. Ran a hard course with Jeff this morning. I talked his ear off the first 5 miles. It was nice. Wore long sleeves and shorts. LOVE this weather!!!! Lots of hills in the middle of this run and my legs were tired at the end. Jeff pulled ahead of me coming down Wasatch to the trail. I was tired of running behind him and not being able to catch him so in the last 2 miles I stayed straight at one point when he turned right and came out way ahead of him. Ha! I know I'm such a cheater and I knew that's what he was thinking. But I checked my watch and knew I didn't need to turn there to make 12 miles before home. He started to catch me while I waited at a stoplight and then it was a race home! My last mile was an 8:41. Fastest mile. It was fun. I like racing:) It's good for me to try and race on tired legs too. Happy labor day to all!

At least I remembered to bring my sunglasses which I didn't on Sat. and hated running in to the sun. I ran Falcon and Flat Iron Parks for some hill action. I saw Lysa and Scott at 1.75 miles (between parks) and THAT was fun. Should have just run you home Lys, that was dumb. Anyway, we chatted and Scott is doing a mini tri this weekend so they ran that tough 5k route. I really want to do a tri but I don't have a bike:( Good run. Happy holiday! | | 1:36:56 AP 9:42 Left a little before 6am with Jeff. First 5-6 miles were fine. We stayed together. We turned onto 98th to head west just as the sun was rising so I kept looking back so I wouldn't miss the beautiful colors. He pulled in front of me and took of down the hill. As we got back onto flat ground, for some reason I started getting annoyed and then I started getting pissed that he was so far ahead of me. I know, I have a problem. I actually yelled out to him something about "Would it kill ya to run with me" and he stopped and waited. Then I was bugged cause I felt like I was holding him back when he should do all he could on this run, which is supposed to be a pace run. So, I told him I was fine and to go ahead and run as fast as he could all the way home. But to let me know if he's not going to stay with me next time and I'll bring my music. Then I was annoyed cause he took me on a stupid route the rest of the way home. So, overall nice run first half and the second half was my mad run. My feet hurt.

Time 3:22:45 AP 10:08 505050505050505050505050505050505050!!! First 50 mile week ever! Woo hoo! Well, 50.30 actually. Jeff and I left around 5am and ran around the hood, in the dark, with the stars for the first 5.5 miles. I had stomach issues this entire run. Stopped back at home to use the potty and went back out. Lots of hills as always on this run. Went up and up and came down dimple dell road. We saw a coyote on dimple dell. Jeff said that's what it was. I asked if they eat people. He said no. I started using my music around mile 12 cause I needed some help. Dealt with annoying paper boy in our neighborhood. Not very comforting when there's a car weaving in and out all around you and the driver is staring at some piece of paper instead of looking out for runners. There was one we kept seeing the entire first 6 miles of the run. then later when we were almost off dimple dell there was another who was doing the same thing. We saw him twice. I asked Jeff if he rather run later with sun and more traffic or earlier with annoying paper boys. He said paper boys. He understands them. I really tried to push the last 4 miles and try for a fast finish. Here are the results. Mile 17-9:19, 18-9:30, 19-9:17, 20-9:46. Not bad considering every other long run I've died at the end. So my 10+average is thanks to the hills again. That's okay. Speed work in disguise right? Jeff and I had parked a car and ran out to draper. Finished on the PRT. Now to taper! Excited for a new marathon. Off to soccer games.

Went alone this morning. Beautiful morning, especially when the sun was rising. I ran down to Falcon and it was still pretty dark to be running around the park by myself, I was little freaked out. I ran up Falcon twice and then over to Flat Iron and ran around it twice. Ran the steep hills three times there and then up Piper and around part of the big block to home. I don't want this weather to change! It's perfect! I've been trying to eat clean and my neighbor just brought cinnamon rolls over and baked them in my oven and then left a bunch here. Hello! 1:17:16 AP 9:40 Slept till 7:30 and ran with Jeff this morning. I love this weather! It's amazing! I know I keep saying that but...it's why I love running so much. The first part of the run was okay but I was feeling quite sore by the end. I was getting mad at Jeff for running so fast cause it's supposed to be a "slow" run today. We weren't running that fast. He reminded my that he isn't doing "other stuff" during the week (my 20 min Jillian workout that kicked my butt) and he rested Thurs. He encourage me to push through the last 2 miles cause I was giving up and slowing down. I told myself that this is how I'll feel in the marathon and I have to push through it. My legs feeling tired and sore, etc. So, I pushed through and pulled out an 8:57 on the last mile. I'm so excited for next Sat! Excited to run a new marathon! Get a few days away with Jeff! Take a break from church/primary cause I need it! I bought something called "Whole Grain Creation" in the freezer section at Costco yesterday that I'll eat this week. I didn't eat enough yesterday and I was starving during my run this morn so that prob didn't help. It has wheatberries, barley and quinoa in it with cranberries and almonds. It's packed with protein, fiber and 100% healthy whole grains. 3/4 cup is 220 calories. I'll probably do 1/2 cup each day. You keep it in the freezer and just warm it up in the microwave. I tried it last night and it's yummy. I need to eat clean but eat enough right? So excited for more tapering next week! I'll take naps as many days as possible! Woo hoo! LOVE this time of year! I decorated yesterday for fall and for the best holiday ever that's coming up! Guess who's turning 40 on Halloween? I wanted to run 3 marathons the year before/of turning 40 and it's happening. Great feeling!

Cutting my toe nails...thanks for reminding me Allie:) My left foot is feeling FINE today. I wanna run but I don't want to risk it. Can't I just jog some tomorrow and Friday? It's like torture not having run since Mon. but I was so sore after. These chacos and resting have definitely helped. Lizzie gets her casts of her legs tomorrow. So excited!!! Back to soccer and kids are back on the bus. I'm SO glad I won't have to drive them to school anymore.

I'm freaking out a little cause I've only run 3 miles this week, but my foot is feeling better so...Was going to do yoga today but I have to finish cleaning before Jeff's parents arrive. Spent all morning with Lizzie getting her casts off and cleaning her up after that, buying insoles for her shoes and grocery shopping for meals while we're gone. Yoga once this week will have to do. I made myself eat a sandwich for lunch.

St. George Marathon (26.3 Miles) 04:29:33
4:29:33 AP 10:15 By the time I realized I was running too fast it was too late. First time running this marathon and I think it's my last...I am embarrassed that I even thought I could stay with the 4 hr pacer. My attitude during this marathon mirrored my attitude during training. I wanted to quit. I didn't know what to expect of myself and this was an emotional roller coaster for me. Biggest marathon so far. Tons of people. I'm a triple marathoner and this was my slowest pace. What cracks me up is I warned Jeff to not go out too fast. Now watch what I do.
Woke up at 3:30am cause Jeff's friend told him you could get prizes for being on the first bus. Well, we didn't get a prize. Super long bus ride. Super long wait at the top. I should have memorized the stats and facts the announcer kept repeating before the race. Every state but Vermont and Delaware were represented at this race. They handed out space blankets and we sat on ours close to where they'd light a bonfire soon. I got some hot chocolate.
First half= 1-9:02,2-9:03,Jeff was in front of the pacer and I was right behind him. 3-8:30,4-8:29,5-9:09,someone gave me a flat tire at the water stop and I saw Jeff for a minute but then left him behind. 6-8:01,7-8:36,8-11:05,(veyo-the pacer was walking) 9-10,10-9:24,(waving to the helicopters around here somewhere)11-9:49,12-9:53,(it was around here that I lost the pacer. I had been talking with TJ who was also trying to stay with the pacer. Cute 21-yr old from Idaho. We stayed together for a few miles here. I spent myself on these hills trying to keep up with him. I told TJ to go ahead without me. 13-9:37 (I think this is where the spectators were and the right turn down to the beautiful snow canyon. My quads were already feeling sore on this hill. Mile 14-17 were 10:12,10:20,9:53,9:52 and the I just wanted to quit here I guess. Mile 18-20 were 11:27,13:47,12:00 I gave up. at 18 my legs were hamburger. I grabbed a GIANT grape otter pop from some kid, got off to the left and turned around to walk backwards and look for Jeff. I saw an ambulance go by with lights and siren going and wondered if it was Jeff. I was worried and wondered how far behind me he was. I actually saw him a ways back walking off to the left like me so I decided to wait. He said he was surprised to see me. We both complained to each other about our aches and ran together for a while. Walked ran up the hill and was excited to see the showers of water up there. Jeff actually ran ahead for the next few miles. I was done. Walking a lot. This whole next section was downhill and I couldn't even enjoy cause my entire upper legs felt broken.
Miles 21-23 were 11:05,12:25,12:23 Walking, stopped for icy hot, walking So I decided I need to catch Jeff and I saw the spectators. I zoomed down the hill (haha) to catch him and smacked him on the butt. He said he wondered when I was coming. We were both struggling but he more than me so I kind of helped him to the finish line. I saw TJ right up ahead of us and yelled her name and said "You waited for me!" She asked me to drag her to the finish. We ran ahead of Jeff for a few minutes but I kept turning around to make sure he wasn't too far behind me. We grabbed popsicles and I lost TJ. Super nice, cute girl. I stayed with Jeff. Grabbed ice and water and dumped it on my head. The spectators were great. I slapped any kids hands that were out. One of my favorite signs was at mile 24 that said "Worst parade ever!" So, I grabbed the wet hand towels and so much appreciated that! We were seeing runners on the ground receiving medical attention and Jeff was making funny noises. I kept asking him if he was okay and telling him "we're almost there!" He was behind me right before the last turn and I said "C'mon, we're almost there!" I tried to push him (like, get him to race me) to the finish line, spectators cheering!!! I think he understands now why I didn't hear him blowing his air horn at me during the last mile of my first marathon. Your just trying not to fall down and die! Anyway...we crossed the finish line together!!!! It was awesome! My 6 yr old asked me why I'm walking like my legs are broken! I said cause they feel like they are!

| | Went for a slow walk around the block with Josie. My quads gave out on me a couple of times. I should have just pushed her in the stroller cause when we were quite far from home she decided she was done pushing her doll in the dollies (heavy little tikes) stroller and she wanted me to hold her. So I hobbled holding her and carrying her stroller and that was tough. I ate waaaay too much today. I'm in a funk.
| |
| |
Walked a mile pushing Josie in her stroller and then let her walk around our block. Legs are still very sore. I also have allergies or a slight cold that won't go away. I am SO tired. Have been to bed at 9:30 every night. This marathon seriously wiped me OUT!
Drinking lemon water today. I seriously did not stop eating from a few hours after the marathon until dinner last night.
|
| | I showered today. First time since Sat. after the marathon. | |
| | 24 min of yoga with Chris Freytag. 10 lb slim down on demand.
Walked 2 miles in 35 minutes while reading Matched on the TM.
|
| | 3 glorious miles with Lysa! Didn't wear my garmin just went by her's. My quads were felt tight and then the tightest switched to my hammies but felt SO good to get out. This weather is CRAZY but it was fun to wear tights and my marathon shirt. SO glad I traded it for a men's medium so I could pull the sleeves over my hands. |

51:40 AP 9:54 Was planning on running 4 alone. I left and ran into Betsy who wanted me to run home with her to drop of her dog and then she wanted to run with me. We ran into Deb on the way to Betsy's. So the three of us ran together for a few miles and then Betsy left us and Deb and I ran together. She talked about a Van Gogh documentary she watched and it was very interesting. So ended up going farther and with company which I'm happy about:) I didn't check the temp before going out so I overdressed. I did wear my new bright green/yellow nike windbreaker which I loved (TJMaxx)! Just a little bit of sprinkling of rain at one point but not bad. Love this weather! 40 min 10lb Slimdown Xtreme yoga with Chris Freytag on demand with Josie on my back (just for part of it)

| | 1:18:44 AP 9:50 Ran with Jeff. We saw a lot of people out this morning. We had good conversation. It seemed colder when the sun started coming up. Maybe that's because I could see my breath and the frost all over the grass. Brrrrrrrrrrr. |

35:09 AP 9:30 Quick run in the SUN! Got to go later since it's UEA. Didn't have a lot of time so I ran around both parks to get some hills in. So sad I can't do a long run tomorrow cause we have family pics in the morning up Hobble Creek canyon. We haven't had official family pics taken since Josie was born so it's time. 20 min Rock Hard Arms workout with Marco Reed. I imagine he's my personal trainer :)

| | Family pics up Hobble Creek! It was so pretty up there. It was fun but I'm super sad I couldn't run that day cause it was a perfect day for a run. I ate a breakfast like I ran 10 miles though. Pancakes, sausage, eggs and apple juice. I made it all. The family was happy. Mowed the lawn really fast so I was sweating. It was good to get outside. Beautiful day!
Adult session of stake conference and dinner with Jeff after at Pizzeria Limone!
|
| | I'm turning 40 on Halloween. I have mixed feelings about it. For some reason I didn't exercise today. I did make Caramel Popcorn for the first time and I can't beLIEVE what goes into that. Corn syrup, tons of brown sugar, lots of butter, sweetened condensed milk and vanilla. Wow! Then I ate too much of it and stayed really late watching Practical Magic on TV. I'll do better tomorrow.
|
| |
Here is the 50 minute workout I did today. Taken from http://leanbodieshf.com/?p=2578
60 seconds of a plymetrics move between each 1/4 mile run as follows:
1/4 mile run
Squat Jumps
1/4 mile run
High Knees
1/4 mile run
Plank Jacks
1/4 mile run
Jumping Lunges Holy crap! I never thought running would be my recovery. My first mile I stayed at 6.0. Second and third mile I ran each interval between 6-6.5 until the last .25 I took it up to 7.0 Ran the 3 miles in 29:33. Ward Halloween party tonight. I guess I'll be a clown.

Blue Brooks Launch Miles: 3.00 |

| | 1:24:11 AP 10:02 Was supposed to run the Little Cottonwood Trail with a girl from my ward but she cancelled. I ran with Deb and took her on an 8 mile route Jeff and I ran a lot. Left at 6am. It was cold but clear so grateful for that. My body is sore from the plyo runs I did yesterday . Ouchiemama. Still can't decide if I should run the Halloween half on Sat. Don't think I could stay with Kelli for 1:50 cause I've been such a freak'in slacker since the marathon. I wonder what pace Allie is running?

| |
| | 45:55 AP 9:11 I ran alone around 8am and it was SO nice to run with light! Did the "buffalo run" Jeff calls it. It's a down up down run. Here are splits for fun. 8:55, 9:19, 9:50 (big, long gradual uphill) 9:15, 8:39 (down and flat) Tried to run fast this morning. It's harder to run fast with extra weight on me. My visiting teacher brought me a bunch of soft, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and I ate almost all of them myself. My biceps are SO sore from yesterday's workout. I went really heavy on 'em. Gardner Village with the kids today. Hope it's not too crowded.

| | Started out doing a kickboxing workout on demand and I didn't like it. Ended up doing a 40 minute Xtreme lower body workout holding 8 lb weights the whole time. I think there were 4 circuits. Some tough strength training moves with cardio blasts at the end of each circuit. (plyo moves)
Then I ran to Falcon park to watch Sydney's soccer game. Ran down and watched the game. Ran around the park at the half and then ran home after the game. 3 miles total in 28:58 AP 9:40. Kind of weird to do such a short run on a Sat.

| | 40 minute 10lb slim down xtreme CORE workout but it felt more
like total body. 4 circuits x2 with power drills at the end of each
circuit and weights on some moves. Did some new moves today which is
always fun! Chris Freytag on demand. I'm still sore from her lower body workout I did Sat. Happy November! All Halloween stuff is put away and I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving!

1:10:56 AP 9:51
Left at 6:30am and ran with Betsy and Deb. It was cold! My legs and butt were freezing. I need thicker winter running pants. Betsy always does a hard, hilly route so that's what it was. She's putting in for the Wasatch 100 lottery. She asked Deb and I if we would pace her somewhere. I think that would be really cool. It's so much easier to get up and out in the cold and dark when I know people are meeting me. Good conversation. Fun to run in the leaves. Grateful for no snow or rain this morning even though it was cold. Going on day 2 of eating REALLY well/clean.

Time 30:30 AP 10:11 I pushed Josie in the jogger stroller in the sun and the wind. It was tough heading south and easy heading north. I just did the 11/2 mile loop twice. Cami and Sydney rode their bikes once around with me. I overdressed. It was good to get out for a bit. 40 minute Upper body xtreme 10 lb slim down on demand (Chris Freytag, I like her) I used 10 lb weights for the last circuit and it was tough (biceps). She does cardio and strength. Toughest move in the workout is prob the long levers with weights and the tricep pushups. Although, the man pushups followed my walking (side to side) pushups (I have to drop to my knees) in the first circuit are tough as well.

Time 47:53 AP 9:34 First 3 miles with plyo and last 2 without. For the plyo runs I started at a 6.0 and worked up to an 8.0 for the last .25.
I guess it's a good workout if I felt like throwing up a few times. I felt like a Biggest Loser contestant. Workout taken from Lean bodies website.
1/4 mile run
Squat Jumps
1/4 mile run
High Knees
1/4 mile run
Plank Jacks
1/4 mile run
Jumping Lunges
x3 Entire workout took about 60 minutes

Left at 6am and met Deb, her dog and Betsy at the church. I don't know why Betsy always asks me to run with her cause she was way ahead of me the whole time. Whatever. Betsy's speedy, Deb has surges and is in front of me and then behind me. Her dog always wants to stay with Betsy so he was pulling her up a hill so she let him off his leash so he could go catch Betsy and he ran off to some other poor runner who seemed nervous about a loose dog. Betsy takes us on hilly routes and I'm usually in front of Deb on the hills. I want to take Betsy on my 8 mile run next time cause she wears me out climbing up, up and up. By the time we come down my legs are trashed from the hills. BUT, it's all good for me and I'm so grateful for friends who get up early and invite me to run with them cause that's when I have to exercise. I may be losing Josie's nap time soon:( Deb stayed with me and was a good listener this morning as I complained about some things that kept me up at 4am. Well, two kids kept me up but then I couldn't turn my brain off and was worried about things... anyway, good therapy run. We also talked about a new book she just bought that I just finished reading called The Entitlement Trap by Richard Eyre. Good parenting book. My left foot is sore when I walk on it and was sore at the end of this run. I hurt it doing 10 lb slim down lower body last week during some power drill move. 10 lb slimdown athletic yoga - 22:42

Rest for 5 min by jogging. Second set of the 3x3's alternating fast and slow. Finished with easy 5 min run to cool down. Yup. Makes running on the treadmill more fun.

48:49 AP 9:46 I was so depressed about the forecast (smog/haze) last night so was pleasantly surprised to find snow when I woke up. My 2 yr old was up with fever at 6am. My 6yr old is on antibiotics for an ear infection (so was up the two nights previous) There's always something to keep me from exercising lately. I haven't been very motivated and I can feel it on my waistline. So I was determined and got out around 6:40am. It was so fun to have a dusting of snow to leave tracks in. Some back roads were pretty icy so ran on the sidewalk at times.

54:58 AP 10:17 wow My thumb is better so I got out this morning around 9am. My sleep and eating habits have been horrifying. I must break out of this. I didn't see any other runners until right before I got home. Lysa, were you wearing black and left around 10am? I think I saw you. The air by the city looked super gross but I just had to get out. Hopefully I won't get sick all over again. I did see some bright blue sky in spots during my run. I would like to see some snow. This weather is depressing. | | 1:22:50 AP 10:22 Left around 8:30. I thought there would be more snow after all that wind last night but barely a flurry. It was COLD but beautiful, clear, blue skies. I have an extra layer of fat on me from the last 2 wks so I stayed warm:) Warmed up even more around mile 6 while running in the sun. Finished at Falcon and walked a 1/2 mile home and around home.
My legs were screaming at me the last 2 miles but it felt great! I ran slow but it felt great! I can barely walk now but it feels great!
Feels great to run 8! I was thinking as I was running and feeling sort of pathetic about my downward spiral since SGM...that it's been a year with many challenges. I'm most proud that I ran 2 marathons this year and turned 40. I never thought that's something I would do at 40. Good for me:) HAPPY NEW YEAR!
