| | Lysa and I ran 9 miles this morning. We left at 6am. The weather was perfect. Cool and cloudy. I had new music (Eclipse soundtrack) and new roads that Lysa took me on. It was kind of nice not knowing where we'd go next. The mountains are so beautiful and green right now with some snow on top. We saw some great views of the valley and we saw 2 ducks on someone's lawn up by the water tower. My average pace was 10:45 and it took me 1:36:43. It feels good to be back. I loved this long run. Thanks Lys! | |
| | Today was a cross day. I did Bryan Kest Power Yoga this morning. Later I took Josie in the stroller to the park and walked the hills while Jane and Lizzie ran around the park. Nice, cool weather again. Beautiful, green mountains, grass and trees. Love exercising outside. I walked fast and hills for about 35 minutes. Yoga takes about 53 minutes. Can't remember exact time. | |
| | Lysa and I ran the 1 and 1/2 backwards (ha! the opposite direction). The sun was behind the clouds and it was very cool outside. We ran without music and we talked. There was a time when we couldn't run without music. My time was 31:15 and my average was 10:03. After running I personally trained with Jackie Warner!:) I did the Lower Body Circuit (15 min) and the Abs Only Circuit (15 min) from her Power Circuit Training DVD. I should be back to doing the entire body circuit training on cross day because the pain in my hip flexor is gone. I then did the plank (one of my faves) 3 times holding for a minute each time!

Total: 49:14 Avg: 9:51 Great run with Lysa. Beautiful cool morning. We were a little faster today and ran up two big hills! C'mon Lysa, call yourself FAST! Love ya, especially for not caring if I have toothpaste on my face in the morning:)

Time 32:08 Avg 10:42 Ugh. Didn't get much sleep. I was sluggish getting up and that continued throughout the run. Windy, hot but trudged through. Lysa was a no show. Sluggishness may have been due to the fact that I was jumping on the tramp last night. Sore from handsprings. I'm too old to be doing that. But I did almost land a full back twist:) Not worth it. No more tramp for me.
Power yoga. 50 minutes.

| | Time:1:44:42 Avg:10:28 Great long run with Lysa. Last time I ran 10 miles was July 2008. We left at 6am and it was 50 degrees. Nice and cool. So beautiful to see the sun coming up over the green, snow capped mountains. I'm loving long runs, even though my legs are hurting right now. I actually like that feeling. I did something hard and challenging and I did it all while my kids were asleep:) I had my water bottle, gu's and gum ( I chew while I run). Next time I'm taking ibuprofen and lip balm with me. I would love to take a nap today. We'll see. My husband is running Ragnar today and tomorrow with people from work. I'll be back next year, hopefully with a van full of friends this time.

| | I ignited my fat-burning potential this morning by doing Jillian Michaels-Banish Fat Boost Metabolism. It's Cardio Circuit training. Seven 6-minute circuits. Kicked my butt. Didn't modify once. Serious sweat! 50 minutes total. | |
| |
Time: 28:27 Avg: 9:29 Fastest lap was 9:02 cause I sprinted at the end. I encouraged Lysa to sprint with me and I know she loved it! It feels good to push yourself! Makes you feel STRONG! Great run. Did weights and abs and still need to do planks.

| | Time: 48:24 Avg: 9:41 Had a good run with Lysa this morning. Went up a hill which was a nice change and more challenging. I'm happy to be running under 10 but it's still okay when I'm not. Just happy to be running! |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 5.00 |

| | I was not feeling good this morning. Very tired and feel a cold coming on. I still ran pretty well considering. I'm so glad it's rest day tomorrow. I need it. Sometimes I hate 3 mile runs...but I push through anyway. I felt like I was going so slow but I was still under 10. Yay. Time: 29:24 Avg: 9:47 I did Bryan Kest Power Yoga right when I got home from running. Love it.

Time: 1:11:51 Avg:10:16 Pretty good for being sick I guess. I've had a head cold. Rested Thurs and Fri. I felt very sluggish and thought for sure I was going slower than that. My legs were sore, esp my upper left quad. Weird. Lysa was feeling slow too lucky for me. Glad I got out and did it but it was hard today. Hot too. Going to lift upper body and do planks. I'm so excited. LAST SINGLE DIGIT LONG RUN!

| | Time: 40:42 Avg: 9:57 We felt like going 4 miles instead of 3. Nice run. Love mornings. Did Power Yoga when I get home. Need to stretch my left hamstring more. It's tight. Had a slight weird feeling in my left hop flexor this morning. Already a little nervous for 12 miles this Friday. Gett'in close to 13.1 which is the farthest I have EVER run!

| | Time: 1:00:59 Avg:10:10 One word. HILLS! Too many! It was hot and too sunny. Sorry Lysa. Should have gone toward the mountain. But then we wouldn't have seen the boy peeing in the bush and that was funny. Hope you're okay. |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 6.00 |

| | 29:45 9:55 av. Whoa! I was way off Lys. It's almost 80 degrees right now (8am) so it was def warmer than 70 when we were out! So hot this morning. Can't wait for the cool down. Did not want to go this morning. Slept horribly. My sis-in-law's water broke and she brought all her kids here at midnight. Lovely. They were still partying in the basement at 2am, including the 1 yr. old:) I thought I was having a nightmare. Still went running. Thank goodness just a 3 miler and so glad it's rest day tomorrow. I'll need it. Can't wait for tonight! GNO! Eclipse! I need a nap today. Thanks for listening to me complain so much this morning Lysa. Sorry. Good run. Can't wait till FRIDAY:) I bought some lemon lime gu to try. Love my new thinner running socks too. Oh, I have an ingrown toenail on my left big toe. How do I get rid of that? Worried about it for the long run:(
I did something new. Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown. 37 min. It was cool.

Time: 2:03:29 Avg:10:17 Long run with Lysa. It was very warm outside. We decided to stay close to the mountain and avoid the sun as much as possible. Thank goodness for all the sprinklers. We drenched ourselves in some at a church somewhere. It was hard! So nervous about running farther than this. I felt strong though and feel like I had a good average pace. I'm supposed to do cross tomorrow and I want to go swim so bad. I seriously might go buy some goggles today, and a cap. Why am I nervous to swim? I know it will be so good for my body and I want to do something different. Running the 10k Provo Freedom Run on Monday. I was born and raised in Provo and grew up going to the parade every year and watching runners. Never thought I'd be one of them one day. This is my first time doing that race. I'm excited to run around my home town with one of my sisters. It'll be fun! Maybe I'll get a PR.

Provo Freedom 10k Run (6.2 Miles) 00:56:23, Place overall: 633, Place in age division: 38
Garmin said I ran 6.15 in 55:22 PR for me YAY!:) Only the second 10k race I've ever run so I was trying to beat 58:01. My average pace was 9:00 according to garmin. Feel great about that. The weather was perfect. It was cool at the start, we had goose bumps. I was with two of my sisters, a brother, his girlfriend, a niece and her friends. We all wore red or blue bandanas on our heads. That came in handy later cause I spotted my sisters on the switch back and we screamed and waved. Anyway, My brother and his girlfriend beat me and I couldn't believe it. I was talking smack to him cause he never runs, he cycles. He can barely walk but his heart is stronger than mine (cardio). Everyone else in the pack was behind me. We started out together of course but then...I wanted to get a PR:) Beautiful run. Lots of shade. Fun to run in my hometown and on the parade route with people cheering you on. Splits: Mile 9:56 Uphill on 9th East 8:29 down on university parkway 8:34 can't believe I'm running this fast (university)
8:59 still can't believe it (center st)
9:05 up toward state hospital and do a switch back. I see my brother and try to catch him. I pass this older lady because it's bugging me that she's been ahead of me this whole time.
9:03 up the hill again (9th east) I saved a little for this hill. I started passing people that had passed me. I saw this girl in a tutu that I'd been with and I wanted to pass her. Young, tan, skinny thing. I passed her on the this hill. Never caught my brother. He's amazing and will be very sore today.
8:24 last .15 mile and I ran as fast as I could but dang tutu girl passed me. oh well. I know I did the best I could and that's what matters. My family was there to cheer me on right before the finish. I love running this race! So good to be back in shape after baby #5! I love running! I love running races! Off to Island Park now for family reunion! Happy 4th of July!

| |
| | Time 35:31 Avg 9:53 I ran up at Island Park and it was beautiful. I ran around Bill's Island which is 3 miles. My daughter Lizzie ran with me for soccer conditioning. It was fun to run with her. She kept up really well. We didn't have to get up too early cause it's cooler up there. |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 3.60 |
|
| | Time 29:51 Avg 9:56 Went alone. Ran around the loop. Needed to run cause I rested yesterday. Stuck in the car all day at Yellowstone (yesterday). Many construction delays and not a lot of animals. Saw one quick glance of a bear, and like one buffalo and three elk from really far away. Took FOREVER to get back to cabin cause of construction. |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 3.00 |

We decided to stay in Island Park so I had to do my long run up there. So sorry Lysa! I actually ran 14 miles which is the farthest I've ever run in my life! My garmin wasn't working for the first mile. Couldn't pick up the satellite cause of clouds and trees I guess. So... pretty good long run considering my lack of sleep all week and esp the night before. Sleeping in the same room with my whole family=very little sleep. This run was quite hilly and at a higher altitude Jeff reminded me.
Time 2:09:22 Avg 9:57 There was a thunder/rain storm the night before. It was still cloudy and nice and cool. .Good thing since I didn't start till 7:45am. I couldn't have done this without my husband Jeff cause I didn't bring my water belt or gu's. He met me every 3 miles with water, coke and other things. He had my baby in the car since we both left the cabin and didn't want to leave her behind. She's a hassle to take care of. So, I felt good. I ran off the island and on the main road. It was really pretty. I drank water and coke at stops and took some ibuprofen around mile 5. Jeff would drive 3 miles and wait for me to come. I picked up some jelly bellies from the van at mile 6 and put them in my pocket. Ate them one at a time and hoped for good flavors. I was lucky. My legs were hurting from mile 6 on. Jeff was very encouraging, told me I was doing good. He said I should just run 12 since I had run that mile. In the end, I went 14 cause it just HAD to say 13 on my garmin. You understand Lys. I was really hurting at mile 12 and then tried to snap out of it and picked it up for the last mile. Maybe I'll write my splits for fun. 1-9:45 2-9:47 3-9:09 4-9:36 5-10:13 6-10 7-9:49 8-9:47 9-10:10 10-9:56 11-10:25 (whoa, so tired) 12-10:42(even more tired) 13-10:03 So, sort of pooped out last 3 miles. Too bad my first mile wasn't recorded. Oh well. I did it. 13, really 14 miles! Woo hoo! ready for bed! My legs have been sore today and I slept a lot in the car on the way home. Good to be home!

| | Time 1:07:24 Avg 9:37 I went alone this morning. I feel like it's a good pace for all the hills I ran. Gotta shower and get my baby. 11 months old yesterday. Can't believe she's almost 1! Hope you had a good run Lys!

| | Time 38:30 Avg 9:37 I went alone again. I didn't take music. I love the mornings. It was nice and cool. Will need to go at 5:30am or earlier on Friday for the long run. Don't want to be running in the sun. I'm sort of excited to see how it feels outside that early in the morning. We're doing 15 or 16 on Friday and I can't believe I'm saying that. Did Jackie Warner's upper body and abs workout. 30 minutes. Going to do planks.

Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 4.01 |

| | Bryan Kest Power Yoga. My body has been missing it. Love it. 52 minutes so I don't always have time to do it. | |
| | Average was around 10.20 We burned 1764 calories. The garmin said we did
it in 2:39 but that is not accurate bc I didn't stop the garmin a
couple of times when we stopped to stretch or drink or gu. The above was taken directly from Lysa. I messed up my garmin. Didn't stop and start when I was supposed to and we got way off. I can't believe I ran 15 miles. Unbelievable. I do think it's crazy! Why would I want to do something crazy? We left around 5:30am. It was nice and cool. We went on our usual beginning run. Lysa was ticked to find out that her ipod wasn't working around mile 3. I asked her if she wanted my music and she said no so I told her I wouldn't use mine. So yes. 15 freak'in miles without music and it was FINE! When we turned left to go up past the school and to dimple dell, we heard a rooster cock and doodle dooing (is that crowing)? and see....we wouldn't have heard that otherwise. We heard the neighing of the horses etc. We saw goats and sheep and a lot of beautiful horses. It was beautiful and cool, love staying out of the sun as long as possible. We saw some colts and a mule. There is beautiful and homes up there. I hit and wall around mile 12 I think. Needed to stretch and my legs were really hurting. Maybe I should walk those hills next time so I'm not so trashed at the end. Didn't really love running on Wasatch and the road in Draper. Too busy for me. But it's either that or hills so... Lysa's Dad picked us up right when we got to mile 15. He took us to 7-11. I got a rootbeer and banana slurpee. YUM! I wish I could stay home and rest and take a nap today but I guess we're going to the pool with cousins and then have a family reunion tonight. Good job Lysa! We are awesome! You are awesome! Thanks for running with me! 15 miles!!!!!! YAHOO!!!! WE DID IT!!!!!!

I SWAM TODAY!!! I loved it and I'm going back next Sat. I want to do this every Saturday for cross training. SO good for your body! I swam for 30 minutes and my heart was racing the whole time. I might feel it tomorrow. I mainly did front crawl and breast stroke. Too tired to write anymore.
Right after I finished my laps I got some free Chick-Fil-A (or however they spell it). There was a guys walking around the pool with it. Said I had to guess his age and I guessed it right on so I got two packs. Can't wait to go swimming again next week.
|
| | Time 29:47 Avg 9:55 Glad I could still run. Wasn't sure if I ever could again after 15. I felt fine. It was pretty hot this morning. I think it's supposed to cool down this week. Nice run. Last 3 until September. Did Bryan Kest Power Yoga when I got home. Trying to do it at least twice a week.

| | Good run. I messed up my garmin again. I didn't take my music. I did take my water belt because it's been so hot. We left at 6:30. I was thinking the night before about leaving at 6 but I never talked to Lysa about it so...we were running in the sun in the end and I hate that. So, should have either gone earlier or stayed toward the mountain longer. I was talking too much and talked Lysa's ear off. Anyway, good run. |

YAHOO! 16 FREAK'IN MILES!!! Time:2:48:05 Avg:10:30 My fastest mile was a 9:10 and that was my last mile. I was sprinting for the shade and for my husband who was waiting. Well, I wasn't sprinting, just running as fast as I could. Pushed myself to see what I had left. It was a good run for me. I felt better today than I did for the 15 miler. Jeff (my husband) met us when we had 3 miles left and I filled up my bottle with gatorade and water. Then we started on the trail in Draper. Lysa guessed right on when she said to go to 14.70 and turn around. That trail (for the last 3 miles) was nice and shady in the beginning but then got sunny. It wasn't too bad though. I wasn't too hot in the sun. It was a nice, cool morning. I love running on dimple dell road. It's so pretty up there. We left our music home again. I think I may leave it home from now on. Gotta go shower before the baby wakes up. I drank some chocolate milk right when I got home. Probably better for me than a root beer and banana slurpee.

| | I didn't set my alarm this morning and woke up at 7am. Did Bryan Kest Power Yoga and it felt so good after that long run. Then I went and swam laps and THAT felt so good! So feel'in good now!!! 52 minutes power yoga 45 minutes lap swimming (freestyle and breast stroke) Happy 24th of July!
| |
| | Time: 36:32 Avg 9:08 I left at 6:15am and ran toward the mountains and saw a beautiful sunrise. That was the highlight of my run. I just ran up Newcastle and back down. Gotta go lift weights and do planks. |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 4.00 |
|
| | 1:20:04 and 10:01 avg. Dang! 4 seconds too slow. I wanted to beat an hour and twenty minutes. I felt slow in the beginning and I should have taken ibuprofen cause my left hip flexor was bothering me. It sort of went away for the last 2 miles. I didn't take music and I wore my water belt. WHERE WERE YOU LYSA? I guess you were resting from not feeling well? I seriously can't believe you are at camp right now. I kind of wish I was there. I hope you guys have fun! |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 8.00 |
|
| | Time 43:48 Avg 9:43 It was a beautiful morning after the rainfall last night. The sky looked so pretty. My left foot was hurting when I woke up and started to walk on it but it didn't hurt when I ran. I did Bryan Kest power yoga when I got home. Love it. |
Asics-Kinsei 3 Miles: 4.51 |

Time 01:40:03 Avg 10:00 5:30am I guess I didn't need to go that early. I was a little nervous being alone. I brought my music and used it at first and then it got on my nerves. The music is noise and the ear plugs were bugging me and the cord wouldn't stay put and I wanted to chuck it all. I'm not taking it again. I don't need it anymore. I was less scared being able to hear what's going on around me. I also enjoy hearing the sounds of nature around me now more than I do my music. I can't believe I'm saying this. I used to think people who ran without music were crazy. Well, that's me now. It was a good run. I went the usual but instead of turning up toward Dimple dell I went straight toward Sego Lily. I should have stayed up there longer. I underestimated in the end and had to run around Falcon Park more than I wanted to but... anyway, so I went toward Sego Lily and then turned around and went back to 98th(I think) and went down (it turns into Petunia). At the bottom of the hill, I turned left and went into that neighborhood for a while. When I was almost out to Petunia and on the home stretch I noticed a golden lab dog just hang'in out and pranc'in around up ahead. Then I see this other stupid, dumb-ass boxer/pitbull (they all look the same to me. SCARY) racing down the sidewalk toward the other dog and then it turns and comes towards me and I freaked because I'm totally scared of dogs (I've been bit twice, broken skin, blood, shots, the works) and I'm sure he can sense this. It's not MY fault. I didn't get scared until HE decided to charge me. I seriously thought he was going to bite my leg so I kicked back (the air, didn't touch the dog) and said "GIT!" I know...I'm sure he was so scared of me. I guess I need a lesson on how to deal with this. I looked for the closest house to run to and saw a car pulling out of the driveway and I started waving my arms to get their attention. I was praying and cussing while the dog circled me and snarled his teeth at me. I tried to start running again and he followed me. I didn't want to just run off and have him take a chunk out of my calf. I was about to walk up to this car that was trying to back out right where I was standing with the dog and the dog took off. Thanks HEAVENS! This was about mile 8 and I ran home pretty fast after that. Sure wish Lysa would have been with me to save me from the dog! She likes dogs and is good with them. She comes home today! I've missed you Lys!

| | Today was cross day. I did Bryan Kest Power Yoga 2 for 45 minutes. The quad poses kill me on that one. Later I swam laps for 55 min. Front crawl and breast stroke. This is my third time swimming laps. I've been going on Saturdays and loving it. I bought $5 goggles at Walmart and I need to return them cause water kept getting in the right side. Going to Sport's Authority for good goggles and a silicone swim cap today. Great workout today! Love doing something other than running. Not that I don't love running:) It just feels really good to swim the day after a long run. | |
| | Time: 40:08 Avg 10:02 Wow! A whole new month! Time's going fast. Good run this morning. Good to have Lysa back, although I almost left without her cause she slept in:) It was a good run. Did Jackie Warner upper body and abs. I should do planks. We'll see.

Time: 47:59 Avg: 9:36 Good run. Windy. There was a girl in pink running ahead of us and after talking to Lysa for a while I decided to speed up. I wanted to get my heart rate up and push myself up the hill. When I started gaining on her I decided to see if I could pass her before I had to turn around and go back toward home. I passed her and then turned around and ran right back home and it ended up being exactly 5 miles from where I decided to turn around. Good guess. I felt good on this run. I'm so grateful to be able to run. I met a woman last night who has brain cancer. She has no hair and she's super skinny and fragile. She's about 12 years younger than me. She can barely get through her days. It makes me so grateful for my health. Grateful for a strong body right now in my life. Who knows what my future holds, so I want to take advantage of this time I have to exercise daily, eat right and take care of this body that is a miracle to me. Stace can run! So she does!

| | Time: 2:01:45 Avg 10:08 Best mile 9:08 Good run with Lysa. Loved the rain that lasted about 30 seconds. Grateful for the cool weather. Went on the usual except we went down Sego Lily past the library and up the Petunia. Won't go that again. Too hilly and it was hot in the sun. Needed my sunglasses this morning. Finished at Falcon and walked home. I didn't want to be walking, my legs were hurting. I'm ready for a nap right now.

| | Time 39:05 Avg 9:46 It was nice and cool this morning. I wanted to go back to Flat Iron Park since they finished the new path. I did a mile or so up here and then went down newcastle to flat iron. Went around twice so up two steep hills. Saw Ashley's neighbor who said I looked great (she saw me walking throughout my pregnancy). I also saw some other girls that I always see there. It was good to be back. I like the challenge of the hills and the change of pace, gets my heart rate up. Ran home after going around twice. Have to go up a hill to get home so another challenge. Turned out to be right on, 4 miles. Did Jillian Michaels Yoga Meltdown when I got home. 37 minutes.

Time 1:30:55 Avg 10:06 I'm a little annoyed with anything over 10 at this point. I was a little sore today from doing Yoga Meltdown yesterday so I guess I need to do that more often. It was surprisingly cool outside this morning. Lysa started talking about how cold it is at the top before Hobble Creek half and I keep forgetting we're running that. I can't think past our 18 mile run that's coming up for some reason. I'm excited to run it but I sure hope they don't start really late like I've heard they do. I would like to run this half faster than my last night but I don't know what my goal should be. My one and only half was 2:07:46 so I would hope to finish this in less than 2 hours. We'll see. But first things first...YAY for 19 miler on Friday (or maybe Sat)! Thinking positive and will enjoy the rest day Thurs in prep for that long run.

| | Time 50:48 Avg 10:10 Pretty good for trying to take it easy. My left foot was a little sore when I started out but it got better as I ran. We ran up past the buffalo today. Love that snow covered (?) buffalo:) After I ran up highland I ran into Deb Carter and ran her home. She told me Hobble Creek Half is beautiful and so is TOU. She told me about her experience running in the St. George marathon two years ago when it rained the whole time. It was fun to run and talk with her for a minute. Did Jackie Warner upper body weights and abs. 30minutes.

I can't believe I just typed in 18!!!!! Farthest I've ever run!!!! 18 freak'in miles!!!!!!!!! K. So we left at 5:30 am. I was worried about Lysa because of her cold. She was out there and ready, waiting for me in the cold and dark. Sorry Lys. It was quite chilly this morning but that's okay. It was actually nice and cool for the entire run. What a blessing! I love our running route! One of my favorite things about leaving this early is watching the sunrise as we run toward the mountain. Another fav is when we get to the top of 100 S and I hear the rooster crowing. I love going down dimple dell road and seeing the horses, ponies and donkey. Love the donkey:) Lysa and I had a great time talking and she was doing amazingly well for being sick. I was seriously so impressed! Great job Lys! Her Mom met us around 13 miles down by the trail head in Draper. Thanks so much Jill! We refilled. I filled my bottle with orange Gatorade mixed with some water. We ran down that road, the main Draper road, don't know the name. All the way to the tunnel thing and then turned right and ran over to Fort. I started to speed up at that point. The last 3 miles were hard. We were in the sun, but it wasn't too hot. I took 4 ibuprofen (800 mgs) before the run. I felt like I needed more at this point. I don't know if I should take 2 before I run and then 2 halfway through. I need to find out. My legs were getting really sore at this point but I ran as fast as I could. Ran all the way up Fort to Pioneer and ran down there till I hit 18. I still can't believe I ran that far! Crazy! Thanks Lysa for running with me! Thanks Jill for picking us up! You're awesome! We can do this Lys. We will do it!!!!:)))) We can run a marathon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

| | I had a hard time walking down the stairs this morning because my left achilles was really sore. I did Bryan Kest Power Yoga 1 and it feels fine now. Guess it just needed to be stretched. |
| | Time: 46:22 Avg 9:16 Best mile: 8:41 I don't know if I mentioned on Friday that my left big toe was feeling bruised under the nail after the 18 miler. It wasn't hurting too bad this weekend or during my run this morning but it hurts now. I'm nervous about this. I've heard of people losing toenails but not on the big toe. I hope it gets better and not worse. I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it. Anyone know? I did Yoga Meltdown (killer chaturanga push ups, etc) after my run this morning on-demand. That's when I started feeling my toe, going into down dog every time. Maybe that's what made it worse. I guess I'm just wondering, can a bruised toe heal, or does the toenail always end up dying and falling off? Maybe I'll google it. Pretty sure running would be quite difficult without my big toenail:(

| | Time: 1:26:54 Avg: 9:39 I went out at 6:30 this morning and Lysa wasn't there. I was about to walk towards her house but decided to go back inside and check my phone. There were 4 missed texts. 2 last night and 2 this morning. I was sad when I realized she had left at 6am and I'd be running this 9 miles alone :( I was so tired last night and wasn't thinking straight. I guess I forgot that 9 miles is a long run and that we usually go at 6am for those.
I started on our usual long route but after coming down past the water tank I turned right and went back past Albion and over to the buffalo house and down...whatever that street is. Down to highland and up the hill and back home. I had about 1.75 miles to finish around home. Good run. Just lonely.

| | Time: 55:58 Avg. 10:17 It was hot and windy. We went a different route that ended up being more than 5 miles. I really needed my water. I felt slow and sluggish. Tired after my 9 yesterday. It was a hilly run headed home. More of a challenge. I was going to do upper body weights and abs but I'm so tired I just want to take a nap right now. I'll do it sometime today.

Hobble Creek Half Marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:58:19, Place overall: 583, Place in age division: 86
9:02/M Yay! A PR! I wanted to beat my only other half marathon time from 2008 and I did that. It's good to be back! I'm so excited to be under 2 hours. I was hoping for that. I was worried about pushing myself because I'm training for the TOU Marathon but I decided to go for it and see what I could do. My quads are sore today and I can't do stairs very well (which is from the downhill, not the speed right?) I may write more tomorrow but I have to go to bed so I can get up early and keep training. Hopefully I can still run tomorrow :) So, Lysa and I slept at my Mom's in Provo and got up at 4am. I ate toast with peanut butter and took a banana with me. Drove to Mapleton and got on the second bus I believe. This was my first time doing Hobble Creek and I didn't realize that at the top we were supposed to walk up the hill to the start line. Anyway, we used the potty a few times since we had plenty of time before the race started. It was supposed to start at 7:15 and I think we started around 8am. The only other half I've done is Provo River and they started on time. I won't be doing this race again for that reason. The sun was already high and almost to us when we started. I stayed with Lysa for the first few miles and talked. We were doing 9:25, 9:09, 9:03, 9:09. I was so cold after standing up there and waiting so long. I see now why people warm up with a jog to begin a race. It took a while for me to get warm. There was an annoying lady talking in front of us and then behind us after the first water break. She was talking way too loud and she was prancing like a gazelle ( I don't know why that was annoying me but it was). I was finally feeling warm and I decided I needed to blow outta there and start racing. I took off around mile 4. Somewhere around this point I saw some cows coming toward the road. 2 cows and 2 calves. Didn't expect to see that. Anyway, next few miles I listened to music and got in zone. It was so hot and I was thinking, the faster I run, the sooner I'll get to the finish and be out of the sun. Mile 5-9:09 Mile 6-8:52, 7-9:01,8-8:57, 9-8:53. At mile 10 I decided I would stop and drink (I had my water belt and hadn't really been stopping to drink much). I was going to put on some chap stick cause my lips were so dry. For some reason I stopped my garmin and that was stupid. In a split second I changed my mind about stopping cause I'm racing for heaven's sake and I really wanted to get in under 2 hours. I just walked and drank and then took off without starting my garmin. I realized a half mile later that I hadn't started it. Dang! I hadn't really been looking at my time cause I was just concentrating on running. I just tried to stay under 10 after that and hoped I was still under 2 hours. After that last up hill it was flat and through the neighborhood and to main street to the finish. It was so hot and I was so tired but I just pushed myself. I kept thinking "just pass that girl" and then I would pass her and think "just pass that guy" etc. took it one person at a time. When we turned onto main street and I could see the crowd at the end I tried to run as fast as I could. I got goose bumps the closer I got to the crowd. Excitement, adrenalin, I wanted to get to the finish line and see my family. I saw Scott and Oliver (my friend's family) first and then I saw my husband and one of our girls. So happy to see them. My husband told me later that he was surprised to see me so soon. That made me feel good. As I ran around the little building that takes you onto the grass and to the finish, some guy had collapsed and a girl (runner) was helping him up. I don't know if he tripped on the curb but he couldn't get up, his legs were all wobbly as he tried to stand. I think he had collapsed cause she was telling him to breath and she would get him a drink. I felt bad but I kept running and tried to race to the finish. I passed a guy in a red shirt right at the end. :) So happy with my time and so grateful for my family who came to support me. I was so glad my parents came. They were in England for my first half and I'm glad they came to support me at this one. My sister asked me later that day if I thought I could turn around and run another half marathon after this race. I said no. That day will be different. I won't be racing the first half, I will take it easy. I will finish the marathon (TOU) when it comes and I'll finish it as strong as I can!

Time: 51:46 Avg:10:21 Started running at 6am cause today was the first day of school. It was cold out and I wore long sleeves. I'm excited to run in cooler weather. Took it easy with Lysa. Starting out my quads we're burning but then it got better. When we got to the top and turned around to come down the hill I felt it in the quads again. Then when I stopped running and started walking the little bit home, they were very sore. Hopefully I'll be a little less sore for our 10 tomorrow. I told Lysa we're awesome cause who runs a half and then runs a 40 mile week after that?

| | 1:44:39 Avg: 10:28 Still taking it easy. Quads are still hurting today. Feels good to have 10 miles done and all before the sun was out from behind the mountains:) It was very cool this morning. I wore capris and long sleeves. We left at 5:30 and could see a little light coming up behind the mountains. The stars were still bright and the moon was so beautiful out west/southish. We started our usual long run but after going up to the water tank we turned right and came back the way we went up. We didn't feel like doing any extra hills. Glad for 5 tomorrow and a rest before the 20. I was thinking we should run down Millcreek canyon to prepare us for the marathon and because that would just be fun to do something different for a change. We'll see. |

First 20 miles run ever!!!!!!!Woke up at 5am. Ate a banana and took 2 ibuprofen. Scott and Lysa picked me up around 5:25 and we drove to the top of Millcreek. It was dark and cold. I was nervous when we first started running because I thought I might trip or step in a hole or something. I was a little hesitant. I could have sworn I saw something moving up ahead at one point early on and Lysa and I grabbed each other in fright because I thought it was a person coming towards us. It was just a stupid street sign. As it got lighter I could see the beauty around me much better. The little creek rushing next to us, the moon shining bright and lighting our way and the light from the sun was coming up behind us. The trees were so tall and beautiful. I love how narrow the canyon is at the very top. The road was moist from the rainfall. As it got lighter, I wanted this canyon run to last forever. Well, at least longer than 9.4 miles. That was my favorite part for sure. That beautiful canyon. Lysa and I talked the whole way down the canyon. I'm going to post splits since this was a very momentous run. When we got toward the bottom of the canyon the wind really started picking up.
Canyon run splits: 9:39, 9:01, 8:53, 9:30, 9:29, 9:52, 10, 10:14,10:26 We turned onto Wasatch for the next 5 miles headed toward the 7-11 at the bottom of Big Cottonwood Canyon. We decided to use our music for this part. It was very windy this whole portion of the run. We had a beautiful view of the valley in the beginning but then there was just a wall. It rained for a minute when we were coming to the gravel pit. I got to the 7-11 and bought a Gatorade and called my family to say "hi." Splits for Wasatch: Miles 10-15: 10:44,10:13, 10:44, 11:12, 10:11, 11:05 Next we went down toward the Old Mill and took a trail under 215 and went to Holladay. We ran on the blvd (I think, this is Lysa's territory) for a while and then down some really pretty streets with trees and gorgeous houses. On the blvd we saw a landscape waterfall thing and got our heads wet. That felt really good cause we were now running in the sun. We ended by Lysa's sisters house and she drove us home. So nice of her. She brought us ice water and fresh made fruit and veggie juice. Then took us to 7-11 and I got a BANANA/ROOTBEER SLURPEE! So good!
Miles 16-20 were hard: 10:31, 11:44, 11:08, 11:35, 11:04. Pretty slow, but I didn't want to push it. Saving it for the big day. Can't believe we ran 20 miles. Wahoo!!! TOU here we come!
Thanks for the entertaining stories Lys! Ended the day with a super yummy SMASHBURGER! I'll be good again now till after the marathon:) My legs are tired and I'm tired. So excited to sleep in and rest tomorrow.

| | Time: 1:18:56 Avg: 9:52 Fastest mile was my last at 9:13. Left at 6:00 and wore long sleeves, tights and shorts this morning it was so chilly. Went around here for 2 miles. Up Newcastle and down past water tower. Past Albion and buffalo house and down. Newcastle is a hill and then a small, steep hill on Alta Canyon (?) and then big hill on Highland. Pretty good average for a hilly run I think. Love the cool weather. Good run.

Time: 40:07 Avg 10:01 Left at 6:30 and took it easy this morning. Nice and cool. Beautiful sunrise. Did most (not the cardio cause I ran 4 miles this morning already) of the Trainer Momma's Upper Body Workout. Killers for me were: 1.Tricep Dips with feet up and 2. Her Mason Twists. Holy crap!!!! I didn't even know that move existed until today and she does them so fast! Gonna be sore.

| | Time: 1:59:52 Avg: 9:59 Ha! Had to sprint that last mile to get in under 2. Last mile=8:29:) We left at 5:30am. I was shaking for like 5 minutes after my alarm went off. Wasn't prepared to be awakened I guess. I wore capris and short sleeves. It wasn't as cold as I thought it would be. It was hard to get up and out but I always feel better when I start running out in the beautiful surroundings. Loved the moon and the stars and then the gradual sunrise. Never get tired of that. Lysa and I ran up our usual and had good conversation. We split off around mile 6 (?) up that huge hill. I ran all the way down to Sego Lily and turned around and looked for Lysa but didn't see her anywhere. We had talked about just going back the way we came so I decided to do that. Didn't want to do the usual without Lys cause that would take me to the neighborhood where I was almost attacked by that stupid dog. So, I went back the way we came. Had some new music so that was a nice change. I was trying to keep my pace under 10 cause I wanted to get home under 2 hours. Running back up the hill (past the water tank) was a challenge but I still kept it under 10 (9:55) and it was all downhill after that. Yahoo! Last 3 miles were 9:14, 8:58, 8:29! Hurried to get the kids ready for school and my 3rd grader left her lunch sitting on the counter. Nice. I put on my flip flops and had to run all the way to the back of the school (we live across the street from the school) where the 3rd graders line up. What? That's a long way after you just ran 12 miles and sprinted at the end. Nice run. Have a nice day!:)

Time: 39:34 Avg: 9:53 Slept in and went at 7:30 since it's a holiday. I realized later that I should have gone earlier so I had more time after to lift but I was able to squeeze it in. It was cold this morning. I wore gloves, tights and my Buff head band that covers my ears. Probably didn't need the gloves but...I kept them on. Lysa and I ran up Newcastle and back. We talked and ran what seemed like a pretty easy run to me. Didn't pay attention to my time and was pleased to see we still came in under 10 min miles without trying. Good job! Love the easy 4 milers. I remember when I could barely run 1 mile after having Josie. I'm still so grateful to be back to running and back in shape. Count my blessings everyday that I'm healthy and able to run and train for this marathon. 30 minutes upper body weights and ab work. (Later in the day and had to add ) We promised the kids we'd do something fun like a hike and ice cream today. Jeff wanted to go up to Alta and hike Catherine's Pass. I had no idea it would be such a long hike. We didn't get up the canyon until around 4 and started on the hike about 4:45pm. Josie was in the back pack on Jeff's back and I helped Cami. It was 2 miles all the way to the peak. We kept going another half mile after getting to the top of C's pass and went to the peak. I carried Cami, my five year old piggy back to the top. That was tough, but it was so beautiful! We could see Midway from up there. There was a guy running the trail up to the top who passed us when we were almost to the top. He took a picture of our family up there. It was cold! We had to hurry back down and didn't get to the car until around 7:30pm. I think we hiked about 4 miles total. I forgot to say we saw 3 moose on the drive up to park at the trail head. Two calves and their mother. They were just off the road. Then on the way back to the car at the end of our hike we saw two deer. Then more deer on the road on the way down the canyon. We were all starving and went to Zupa's for dinner. It was fun, but too far for me after doing all I'd already done today. I'll probably be sore tomorrow. Hopefully I can run 6 miles in the morning.

| | Time 30:02 Avg 10 Left at 6:30. My 11 yr-old daughter Lizzie came with Lysa and I and we ran around the mile and 1/2 loop twice. I asked Lizzie if it was hard for her and she said no. She plays comp soccer and is supposed to (coach asks them to) run or jump rope on days she doesn't have games or practice. She's a tough little cookie. Glad it wasn't thunder and lightning at 6:30. My 5 yr old woke me up at 1am terrified by the storm. Did Yoga Meltdown when I got home. 35 minutes. Would rather do Bryan Kest but didn't have time.

Time: 1:24:26 Avg 10:33 Well...our last long run before the race and I wanted to stay with Lysa. We left at 6am and it was pretty chilly. I'm glad I wore long sleeves and my buff band. I seriously cannot believe we're tapering already. I was feeling sad yesterday when I looked at my schedule on the fridge and it's all marked off except one more week. I've loved training for this marathon. I know I can do another, but nothing will be like my first. I'm so excited and nervous. I don't want this experience to be over. I love training and having a schedule and a fitness goal to work toward. I'm running a 10k (Love your body) at Thanksgiving Point in October with my sisters who are trying to get back into shape after babies. I also want to train for the Salt Lake Half (never done it) for next April and my sister Ashley said she might continue on in her training for that after this 10k. Time:40:56 Avg:10:14 Lizzie (my daughter) showed up in my room ready to run at 6:20am. She said she'd rather go with me than on the treadmill. She was wearing dark clothes so I told her to put on a white shirt. Can't be too careful. Lysa was waiting out front and we all just ran up Newcastle and back down. There were so many cars on the road it was kind of annoying. It was a nice, casual run. The sunrise was absolutely gorgeous! We stopped twice to look back at the sunrise and all around the sky. The clouds were pink! Love it! When we were done I asked Lizzie if that was harder than 3 miles and she said yes:) Only one more run!:)))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))))) Nap time for Josie and Bryan Kest Power Yoga time for me! 52 minutes.

I still can't believe I'm typing 26.2 for my total distance! Crazy! It was a beautiful, amazing, extremely difficult experience and I'm forever changed for the better! I RAN A MARATHON!
Splits are as follows (this includes walking through every water station): M1-10:01 M2-9:42 M3-9:40 M4-9:57 M5-10:03 M6-10:31 M7-10:20 M8-9:5M9-9:41

Garmin time says 04:28:49 so that's not far off but it says I ran 26.59 miles so.....? Burned appr. 3,106 calories and my AP was 10:07. Lysa and I left to go up to Logan around 3pm. We were hungry so we stopped at a gas station in Brigham City and I went for a protein bar and Lysa made me choose a candy bar cause HELLO we're running a marathon tomorrow! So, I chose a snickers with almonds and loved every last bite of it. I hadn't eaten much that day cause I was so nervous (I did force myself to eat pasta for lunch). It was a beautiful drive up to Logan. We drove to our hotel and checked in and then went to pick up our race packets at the expo. We got there around 5:30 and there were already a lot of people. We got in and out quick and some guy stopped us to have our time chips checked. I thought it was cool that they were on our bib. We ate dinner at Fredrico's (suggested by Kelli) and it was great! Fresh garlic bread, salad with BEETS and pizza. We both ordered our own with chicken and artichokes. I got Alfredo sauce and Lysa marinara. I thought the waitress asked me if I wanted beets on my pizza (she said salad) and I said yes and then thought that beets would taste better with Alfredo. Totally misunderstood her and Lysa and I laughed about it later. I blame it all on "marathon brain." We couldn't finish cause we had nervous tummies. Went back to the hotel, watched TV, put on jammies and ate a little more pizza. We tried to go to sleep around 9:30pm. I fell asleep around 10:30. Woke up once around 1am and fell back to sleep until right before the alarm went off at 4am. We dressed and put our stuff in the car and drove to the park. We were in line for the POP's and I saw Allie walk by. Lysa and I got on the same bus she did and I walked to the back to meet her. It was fun to see her and talk to her in person. Such a humble, beautiful, talented person. And a great runner of course!:) She was sitting with some girl who had no idea she was talking to the soon-to-be winner of this marathon! The drive up the canyon was...long. Lysa and I kept looking at each other and talking about how far we were driving and how much farther this was than Hobble Creek. The sky was dark and filled with bright stars. It was cool. There were a lot of guys on the bus who were either quiet or trying to sleep. We were sitting in front of a very chatty, potty-mouth girl. She almost sounded drunk to me. I had said to Lysa earlier "I hope we don't sit by any annoying people on the bus" and voila! We pulled in to Hardware Ranch at the top of the canyon. It was super cold. I was so glad I had on my long-sleeved shirt, fleece pants, sweatshirt, kid gloves, and buff head band over my ears and visor. We stood in line for POP's over and over. We saw a tall guy with super long, skinny legs and he was wearing the shortest shorts I've ever seen a guy wear. It was seriously gross to look at. Lysa said "He must be one of those elite guys" and I said "or he's a wanna-be elite runner" (the rest of this story comes later) The sun started to come up. (I found out later that there were heaters in the white tent down below duh! My bro-in-law said it was packed with people though and he could hardly breathe) We went down when they were calling for the drop bags, took our stuff off and went to wait for the race to start. We lined up near the 4.5-5 hr sign. We looked for Kelli but didn't see her. It seemed like only a few minutes before the gun went off. I looked at my watch and it was 7:03. I was very impressed with this after the Hobble Creek mess. I got teary eyed while we were waiting for the gun. I couldn't believe it was actually happening and the race was about to start. 4+ months of training for my first marathon and the moment had come. WE WERE OFF! The canyon was so beautiful. Filled with gorgeous colored leaves everywhere all the way down, 14 miles of it! Didn't want it to end. During mile one I heard some guy yell "Logan, 22 miles?!" and I looked up and saw a road sign that said Hyrum ? miles and Logan 22 miles. Everyone laughed. We ran a little farther in that first mile and I looked to my left and saw two cute girls running in matching flowered running skirts. I knew right away it was Kelli and her friend. We called to them. Talked for a minute and they ran off. It was fun to see them. Lysa and I stayed together, talking and having fun for about the first 6 miles. Oh, I forgot about transformer/tron girl. I wanted to take a picture of this girl from behind so she could see how bad this looked. She was wearing black (sort of see through though) spandex pants with a funky looking design all over them. She was not the skinniest of women :) and there was a white heart shaped design that outline her buttocks and upper back leg area. Smack-dab in the middle of heart we see her white bikini underwear. Not a sight you wanted see and "ouch" for chaffing later. Wear under-armor girl and ditch the tron pants next time. Seriously people! I had to pass her. Couldn't look at that for too long. Lysa and I were glad to have our long sleeves, gloves and ears covered. We ended up ditching them too soon. Should have kept my long-sleeves on and handed them off at mile 14 to family. Oh well. It was warm in the sun but cool in the shade up the canyon. I turned on my music after Lysa and I split up and I ran at a comfortable pace but tried not to push it. I was worried after leaving mile 9 water station cause they were out of gu's . Relieved to find oranges and bananas at the next stop. I was feeling hungry and that did the trick. The volunteers were all wonderful and I thanked everyone each time I walked through. Looks like my fastest mile was 13 cause I was excited to see my family at the bottom of the canyon and we had a wind pushing us out of the canyon. It was nice. Thanked the Lord for that help! I first saw Lysa's husband and two boys walking up the side of the road as I came down to the bottom. I high-fived them and then saw her parents and hi-5'd them. I saw my family and gave Josie a kiss, Jeff's parents and his sister and her kids, hugs and kisses. I was so happy to see everyone and wanted to enjoy it! I was looking for Jeff and he was up the hill a ways filming it all. I waved and ran on. Loved that whole part of the race route!!! Next 5 miles was good but not as great. It was fun to see people I knew. More of Lysa's family. There were runners making small conversation. One nice lady asked how I was doing and found out it was my first marathon and wished me luck, was very encouraging. There was a girl who sat behind us on the bus who said hi to me. I just wanted to take it all in and be happy and grateful and not rush it. I was really nervous for the last 10k and wanted to save up. I saw Lysa's brother when I turned to go on Main st. for the first time. After I turned the corner I saw JD walking up the sidewalk (to meet Lysa) and I called out to him. He was surprised and cheered for me. It was such a boost every time I saw someone I knew. Main street was full of cars. I tried to wave to all who cheered for me and waved at me. People cheered for Ragnar cause I was wearing a Ragnar shirt. The sun was out but it didn't seem too hot. The weather was nice. The race seemed to get harder at about mile 18. I could not believe how many hills there were the last 8 miles of this race! That should not be allowed! I really had to talk myself through those hills (though small) to not walk them. I DID NOT WALK AT ALL EXCEPT THROUGH WATER STATIONS! Miles 19-21 I was looking for the downhill, I knew there had to be one. I need a gu with caffeine at this point so I took my vanilla. Remember Mr. Elite at the POP's? I saw him walking somewhere around here and passed him:)
Mile 21 was a faster mile because that was a downhill and I came around the corner with a burst of energy and then I saw Kelli and her friend and was excited I caught up! They were walking as I passed them and Kelli told me I was doing great as I ran off. ( So sorry to find out later that her friend was sick and not doing well) Mile 22 to end were so hard for me. I really had to push myself to stay around 10. I wasn't happy with the route, I was hoping to see my family and didn't. I just told myself just deal with it and run! You can do this! I was so tired of running! I just tried to pick people off one at a time to keep myself going. I couldn't believe how many people were walking at this point too. A lot of walkers. Coming back around to main street between 24 and 25 I could NOT believe we were going up hill again. That was tough and my legs were killing me! I guess I pulled off that 10:14 at mile 25 because of that downhill. I had to be a little careful there though because I seriously felt like my legs would give out any minute! I was thinking about that youtube video I watched the "funniest marathon finish" of those women collapsing and crawling across the finish and I finally understood what that might feel like ( I know they were running a lot faster than me). I ran with a young guy for a minute and said " this is the longest mile of my life!" and he said "my legs feel like lead!" Some guy yelled out "you're almost there, 2 blocks." I was doing all I could to not stop and walk. I wanted to finish strong and I did the best I could. I was done. I wanted to stop running more than anything!!! I turned the corner and was startled by a loud blow horn and looked to my left a little but just kept running (found out later that was my husband cheering me on and warning my family that I was coming around to the finish line, I was wondering where the hell that finish line was)!!! I turned the last corner and saw FINISH and I put my hand over my eyes started crying. I was crying and running and I couldn't breathe. I felt like I was hyperventilating. I was astounded at what I was about to do. I was about to finish a marathon. Something I never thought I would do in my lifetime. I kept running. I ran as hard as I could while crying and not breathing very well (hello! I was thinking about what Lysa had told me, she had read that no matter how you feel, straighten yourself up and smile as you cross the finish line) I tried to straighten and smile but that's hard to do while crying, I saw my husband to my left with my daughter and I reached out but kept running. I heard my name and that was unexpected and made me cry harder. I crossed the finish line!!! Whew done! So happy to be done running and I swore I would never do this again. Who does this voluntarily? Anyway, I can't believe how long this is. I had to write it all so I'll never forget this day. One of the greatest days of my life! What's next? I'm already considering Ogden Marathon 2011 if my friend Cathy wants to do it (her first) and I'll try for St. George 2011. I wanna get faster and that's why I'm on this blog. Boston... someday... maybe...:)
Monday: I couldn't sleep last night cause I felt I was too harsh on chatty bus girl, tron girl and Mr. Elite. I really didn't mean to be making fun. You guys are awesome for running a marathon and you made my experience very memorable! My apologies.

| | I took my girls on a 1 mile walk around the big block. My 5 yr old got tired of riding the scooter so I rode it and she pushed the stroller. It was actually a great little workout. Just what I needed. It's a challenge to go as long as I can on my weaker side too. Nice workout on my upper legs! Much needed Power Yoga Workout 52 minutes. Love it.

Time 28:06 AP 9:22 Fastest mile was the last, came up a big hill (ran easy for a minute) and then sprinted home. First time outside since the marathon. It was good to get out. I think I've been feeling a little post-marathon depression.
I ran with my husband this morning. Left at 6:30. It was chilly. This is the first time we've ever run together. He's usually faster than me so I'm cherishing this time when we can run together. He wants to train for a marathon and started the training for TOU but then was injured and sick. Hopefully he can stay healthy and run his first marathon soon. I started to speed up on the last stretch home and I had a big smile on my face cause I knew I was pushing him and he wasn't going to let me beat him. We raced home and I loved it! We tied.

| | Time: 1:27:58 AP 10:19 Beautiful, easy run down beautiful Millcreek. "Soooo pretty!" Lysa picked me up at 5:40am and we went and met her brother and sis-in-law at the bottom. Well, almost the bottom, at the money booth place. It was very dark and cold at the top but the moon was high noon and lighting our way. Erin had a head lamp and that helped and Lysa and I were glowing in our marathon shirts.
I hope Cam isn't too sore today. I hope he didn't injure himself. He kept making me laugh in the beginning of the run. He's a funny guy.
Gotta keep this short cause the 1 yr old is crying. Great run!

Time: 40:16 AP 10:04 Left at 6:30am with Jeff and Lizzie. Jeff ran 3 by himself and Lizzie stayed with me. Ran from here to Flat Iron Mesa Park and it was dark and the sprinklers were on. They just repaved it and it's nice but how bout turning sprinklers on at 3 or 4am when no one's trying to run at the park! This park has a very steep hill we ran up a few times. Lizzie stayed at the top the last time I ran it. I ran her home and then ran another 1/2 mile alone. Body Works Yoga Slim 51 minutes Just registered for the Ogden marathon!:)

Time: 55:11 AP 9:12 I'm not totally over my cold but I've rested long enough. I had to get out because I'm doing a 10k race next Sat. Left around 6:30. Beautiful morning. So nice to get out again. It was hard but I was determined and I was surprised at how good I felt. I felt pretty bad when I woke at 2am but when I woke again at 6:15 I felt a lot better. Weird. I'm running Wasatch Woman Love your body at Thanksgiving Point with 2 sister's next week. Just found out we get long-sleeved tech t's. Awesome! One of my sisters asked me if we're running "together." I guess we'll see how I feel. My husband says "It's a RACE! Why wouldn't you race?" I don't know. I kind of agree. I don't race that often and it would be nice to push myself and see if I can beat my last time (Freedom Run in July). We'll see. I was thinking about those I know running SGM this morning and hoping they're doing well. Wish them all the best! After running I did Bryan Kest Power Yoga- 52 minutes Ahhhhh... So proud of myself for successfully getting that new picture up. I'm so computer stupid.

| | I love October! It's my favorite month:) Time: 54:34 AP 9:06 I left at 6:30. It was dark. I wasn't thinking and wore dark clothes. I need to start wearing Jeff's reflective vest or get one of those flashing red lights. The temp was good. I was actually a little hot. I was stretching by the time it lightened up and there were dark clouds over the mountains and blue sky with some pick clouds further out. Pretty. I'm just trying to appreciate this great weather before the snow comes. Jeff signed us up for the Runner's Series. Guess if I complete that I'm running St. George. Cool. It's fun to see other runners out. I don't like feeling alone out there. Didn't take music today or Tues. Felt sick and tired yesterday so didn't exercise. Race on Sat! Kind of excited to see if I can get a PR for a 10k. Picked up packets yesterday at SLRC and the shirts are cute but run really small. The neck is too tight and the waist is short. SSR (7.13 Miles) 01:01:30 | |
SERIOUSLY STUPID RACE This was the Wasatch Woman Love Your Body 10k at Thanksgiving Point and they made a HUGE error in the race route for the 10k! There is a time discrepancy and the race results are totally screwed up so I'm going by my own. For the 7.13 miles that I ran my AP was 8:37 which is the fastest 7 miles I've ever run! My fastest mile was 8:15. My husband figured out that my AP for the 10k would have been 53 min 25.4 seconds. PR! That's our best guess and that's with a hill in the last mile that I DIDN'T EVEN NEED TO RUN!!! I ran this race with 3 of my sister's and they were great! It was fun and everyone had a great time, it's just really frustrating to not know exactly how you did because they messed up the race route. So, the race started at 8:30am. They started us, we ran over the pads and we ran for 30 seconds and everyone was running really slow. I wondered when we were going to speed up, we turned a corner and then they stopped us. I restarted my garmin and they started us for real. Kurt Bestor fired the starting gun. Wow! We ran over another timing pad (we were wearing time chips on the shoes). This all seemed weird to me. I had decided I was racing so I took off. I tried to keep my pace around 8:30 and that was pushing it for me. It didn't seem like this was a race with a lot of elite runners. I was in a pack of about 30-50 (I'm not a great estimator) women who pulled away from the slower, bigger pack and stayed there throughout the race. We ran south and then east, up to the frontage road. Turned north on that road and went past the tower and the hotel (I think) and then turned left and down a big, gradual hill. We headed down (well, down and then up a little) toward the Children's Garden (I think) and ran around down there. I remember going there with my family to see Halloween lights one year and I think I went on a field trip with one of my kids down there once. Anyway, it was really pretty down there. There was a hill around here somewhere and a girl passed me with a 2010 Boston Qualifier jacket on. I thought "Maybe that will be me someday:)" We ran on a dirt road for a minute that was steep and then steep road and then onto cobble stone sidewalk for a long time, all throughout the gardens. My sister hated that part cause there were so many runners and it was the size of a side walk. I was fine with it cause I was alone there. Closest runner in front of me was 20 yards ahead. We ran a lot of hills in here. There were beautiful waterfalls we ran over bridges. It was cool. We ran up quite a hill to get out of there. We come out of the gardens and start heading back toward Electric Park. I'm getting close to 5 miles on the garmin. There were no mile markers anywhere. There were adults and signs at every turn up until this point though, I do remember that. I get to mile 5 and decide to try and speed up cause it's the last mile. I see that the runners ahead of me are running back up the hill we came down. Ugh! Seriously? I'm pushing myself so hard and I don't know if I can make it up this hill. As I get closer I see there is a right turn and that some runners are turning. There were two young (12 and 10 maybe) girls there telling 6ker's to turn right and 10ker's to go straight. There was a cute lady in front of me (I just couldn't seem to catch) who started to turn and came back to go straight. I said to these girls as I passed "10k goes straight?" and they said "Yes!" I'm thinking I can't keep up this sprint up this stink'in hill! We run back up to the frontage road and my garmin is saying 6 miles (no I did not check up at 6.2, I should have) and I'm thinking HOW MUCH FARTHER ARE WE GOING? Well, you know how far I ended up going. You can check the map if you want. Skip to the finish line. I'm asking others what their garmins say and they all had the same problem. I talked to one 10ker who turned right back there where those girls were telling us to go straight and she came in at 6.3. So, I realized we were all supposed to be turning! I checked the map of the race route when I got home and all runners were supposed to turn right and not go up that hill to the frontage road! INCREDIBLE! Why would you not put a big 'ol sign there saying 10K RUNNERS TURN HERE! or ALL RUNNERS TURN HERE! I just can't believe that at such a critical point, there were 2 young girls telling all of us to go the wrong way. PUT A FREAK'IN SIGN THERE WITH ARROWS!
I mean, when they eventually posted the times, mine said I was 18th in my age group but that I ran a 10k in 01:01:24 and my AP was like 9:49. WHAT? I don't know how they're gonna fix this. There were a few of us who went up to this guy in a lap top who wrote down race numbers and AP's and said he would take care of the time discrepancies. That's the best they can do?
The race coordinator apologized at the end. I went up to her and said "So were we supposed to turn right instead of going straight?" and she said "Yes!" and I said, there were two girls there telling us to go straight for the 10k and she said "They were my daughters, I'm so sorry. Go ahead and hit me...I know you wanna hit me" as she offered up her bicep so I hit her. Not hard enough though. I'm happy that I ran a good race. I felt like I ran as hard as I could and I am so stink'in tired right now! I'm excited to be running faster! I was so glad to do this with 3 of my awesome sisters! My older sister hadn't run all week cause her daughter just had a baby and she was with her all week. My younger sister has 7 children under the age of 8. Two sons are the oldest and she has 4 yr old triplets and 2 yr old twins (all natural)! She's amazing. My youngest sister just had her 4th child just a few months ago and smoked this 7 mile 10k race!!! You guys are awesome and I love you!!! Thanks for family who came and supported us! Love you!!!

1:15:06 AP 9:23 I left a little after 6:30 and could see the outline of the mountains from the sunrise. I definitely prefer that over the total darkness. The sky was blue with lots of stars and didn't see any clouds. So beautiful. Chilly but had on tights, gloves and Buff headband so I stayed warm. Went up Newcastle, up around water tower, down Quail Hollow (I believe) and across 94th and up Eastdell (to the end and back). Left on 98th (love running down this) and right on Highland up to Newcastle. Left around half of the big block and home. I didn't really want to go home. Just wanted to keep running. My butt and upper legs are super sore from the other workouts I've done this week. I have a lot of miles on these shoes. Hopefully getting new ones for my birthday:) Can't decide if I should get the same ones or try on different ones. I really love these shoes. Kids are out of school for Fall break. Might go to Gardner Village with the family (sister's etc). Except that every other family around here is probably doing the same thing. I have a sister going to Legoland (apparently they prefer that over Disneyland) and a sis-in-law going to Arches. I wanna go somewhere!

Went around it once (big hill) and back the way I came. Up past the stake center (hill) and over to highland, back to Falcon way and around Falcon park and up (big hill). Turned right at the top and went around the mile and 1/2 loop to home. Went around the school to make it 8.50. Bryan Kest Power Yoga- 52 minutes. I was so sore that it was challenging. I so desperately needed to "release my piriformis muscle" on each side. My hammies are super sore too. Those cross training workouts killed me this week. I need to keep them up.

| | 1:20:30 AP 10:04 Left at 6am and met a friend I haven't run with before. She had a head light for me and she hah her dog. It was warmer out this morning than I expected. Smelled like rain too. Love that. We ran up Newcastle and met up with another friend I had never met. Ran all the way up Newcastle and past the fence. My first time venturing past. We ran on the trail up to La Caille. Before taking the right fork to the narrow trail, I saw two glowing eyes up ahead and my heart started racing. Didn't know what it was. It was another dog, off a leash and way ahead of its owner. It started barking and seemed to be attacking Hobbes (my friends dog). She wasn't that worried and just said that dog was trying to prove he was the alpha dog. Whatever. Just put your dog on a leash people! Anyway, I imagined it being wide open the whole way up but we went to the right and it narrowed and became a small running trail and I did see the colored leaves at one point when I looked up. I was looking at my feet most the time and trying to be careful but of course I totally twisted my left foot at one point cause I'm such a clutz (sp?). I want to go back when it's light so I can see where we ran. Went up to Wasatch and left there down to Danish. Down to Creek road to Highland and up Highland to home. It was fun to do something different. I guess these two run together Mon, Wed and Sat. Deb, my friend with the dog, is running the Ogden marathon and is looking to qualify for Boston someday. Not sure if she trying to qualify during Ogden 2011. I'll ask her. I think her qualifying time is 4:0. Mine is 3:45. Next year it'll be 3:50. Still thinking about it...

| | 1:21:50 AP 11:42 Whoa-ho-ho... (walked some of this) I went on an adventure today. I dropped Cami off at school and went running with Margo (girl who lives in your old house Lys) and Josie in Margo's jogger stroller. This is the first time I have ever run while pushing a kid in a stroller. I thought I would try it. Josie fell asleep right away cause it was nap time anyway. She slept most of the time and she loves being outside anyway so she was cooing when awake. We went up Newcastle and kept going to the trail and I will never do that again with a stroller. Had to walk a lot of that. Second time ever running a trail and first time ever pushing a stroller, not a good combo. It was beautiful though and not too hot. I did bring water and drank a lot. Got to the top of the trail (la caille) and turned right to 98th. All the way down to the light and turned right and went down to Falcon Way. Went down to Falcon Park and up to home. I had fun today but I don't know if I will do it again. We had a great time talking and Josie was a dream. Running on the street was a piece of cake compared to that trail but...we'll see. I'd love to run with Margo again but maybe at a time when I can run without Josie and the stroller. |

Nice and warm. Not looking forward to the cold weather that's just around the corner. Ran around the neighborhood. Good to get out. This exercise time for myself is more important now than ever with my busy schedule. I have to take time for myself so I can serve everyone who needs me all day long. 60 minute interval training TM run. I watched "What not to wear" and "Baby story" and listened to music on commercials. Started crying when they put the baby on the Mom's chest while running at 7.5 speed, not a good combo. I ran at 8.0 for a minute at some point. Or maybe it was 30 seconds. It was hard. MY NEW SHOES ARE GREAT! I'll run in them till Sunday when I have to put them back in the box and wrap them for my b-day. By the way Lysa and JD. I noticed I did put in initial mileage was 80 on those Kinsei's so that is the total mileage. We had this conversation before the marathon. Anyway, LOTS of miles on those shoes. I seriously want to frame them Lys seeing as they were my first marathon shoes!

| |
| | Time 1:00:01 AP 9:08 It was 48 degrees when I left at 7:42am. Warm compared to yesterday morning but I still could have used my gloves. The sky was bright blue with pink clouds at first but faded quickly. Went around part of the big block and up Newcastle over to the water tank and turned right to go past Albion. Ran past the "winter Yellowstone buffalo" which looked more in its element with a little snow on the roof of the house and on the grass. Down Alta Canyon(?) which turns into Viscounti. Ran on that street to the back of Flat Iron Mesa Park and ran up the back of it. Straight up for about a minute or two. Around the park and up to home. First time outside in my new shoes. Felt good.

| | Time: 1:31:18 AP 8:47 Best mile was 7 at 8:19 Beautiful run down Sundance and Provo Canyon. My canyons! I was born in Provo and grew up skiing at Sundance. I ran over a bridge at Canyon Glen that I jumped off of into the rushing water below when I was 10 yrs old (my Dad dared me and was waiting for me at the bottom) So, hey! The Halloween half marathon just happened to be going on:) K. I'm being silly, Lysa and I went to support her Sis-in-law who was running the race. Well, Lysa was THE support and I was going for a fun birthday run. We got separated and I just decided to run my 10 miles and race a little :) I never stopped for POP's and didn't take water, gu whatever since I wasn't registered. I had on my water belt. Came across a girl who was on the path, on the ground and holding her ankle. Found out later that it was Erin's (the sis-in-law) friend and Lysa stopped to help her. I gotta go shower and help the fam carve pumpkins downstairs and make breadsticks from scratch to eat with Lysa's yummy chili tonight so gotta go. Oh, I almost forgot! I saw Allie after I finished the race! I was done and watching the runners with Lysa and Erin's husbands and she ran by holding a pace marker sign (2:05? am I right?) and I called out to her. I think she saw me. It was fun to see you Allie!

Time 37:50 AP 9:09 Left at 6:30am. Banged my head on the garage door on my way out. OUCH! Still asleep I guess. Ran past some smashed pumpkins in the street. My legs are still tired and a little sore from Sat. I got to the top of Newcastle at turn around point and beheld a beautiful sight. The bright moon, stars and the outline of the mountain as the sun was just coming up. Jackie Warner Upper body and ab circuit. 30 min. Happy November! Cleaning and putting Halloween decor away today. Excited for the great weather this week.

| | Power Yoga 2- 45 minutes. After doing level 3 and 2, level 1 seems easy. I LOVE YOGA! | |
| |
Time 1:00:05 AP 9:15 Gee I felt slow this morning. Left at 6:20am. Felt warmer then I was expecting. Maybe I dressed too warm. I was fine the whole run except my hands were sweating. My legs were really tired toward the end of the run due to tougher than usual yoga yesterday and the day before. Miles 1 and 2, steady incline up Newcaslte and continuing up a little and then down for a while until the huge hill on Eastdell. Then downhill toward home on 98th and turn toward home. Down hill to Falcon (rush of cold air here brrrrr) and then I ran up the short cut= straight up and switch backs for a minute. Legs were killing here. When I walked to the church to stretch on the bike rack I started getting really cold. The sun was rising and the moon was a sliver of a thumbnail right above the mountain. Always remember! Wherever you are...the moon is no bigger than your thumb... Kids are screaming at me...hope this made sense.

| | Time 45:53 AP 9:11 First mile 8:54 and last mile 8:50
Slept in a little and went at 7:15am. Nice to go when there's a little light. The weather is so perfect right now, just want it to stay this way. I wore capris and long sleeves. No gloves which was fine, it's the headband/ear cover I missed. Don't know why I didn't bring it but my ears froze. Last time I forget that. I ran around both parks so there were a lot of hills. It was cold at Falcon (low)and warm at Flat Iron (high). I love the new path at FI and it was light enough to see the beautiful leaves on the trees and on the path and I just LOVE fall and running in this weather. Didn't see many people out. Just one runner by home and one walker at FI. Raking leaves today and tomorrow. Will be my upper body workout for today. We have a TON in our front yard. My kids are out raking and jumping in the leaves right now. Letting them have some fun before we put them in the garbage...the leaves I mean:) Change of plan. Picnic at a park with cousins and then coming back to continue with leaf play/clean-up.

| | Raked leaves and mowed lawn. |
| | I walked 4.29 miles in 1:06:01. Don't know if I should log it since I walked. It's warm and windy. The leaves are beautiful on the trees and crunching on the ground as I walk on them. Listened to my classical music. Snow-capped mountians are beautiful. Cherishing this last day of nice weather. Thought I was leaving at 8:30am but I guess it was 7:30am. Cool. | |

| | It took me one hour to run 6.7 miles this morning. Garmin battery was about to die so I left it home. Pretty cold out but I dressed appropriately. So nice to have a little light greeting me at 6:36am (it took me forever to get out the door for some reason). The east mountain was covered with clouds and I thought it might snow while I was out but didn't. On my way down from the water tower, albion area, the snow-capped mountains in the west were pink on top from the sun rise. Awesome! The leaves are still beautiful too. Love running outside! So much better than the treadmill. Just need to be motivated to get my butt out of bed when it's dark and cold in the am. Bryan Kest Power Yoga- 52 min

Time 1:00:20 AP 9:00 Splits 8:45, 9:18, 9:25, 9:18, 9:00, 8:48 and .70 in an 8:15 pace. Wish I could keep that up for longer. Maybe if I would stop eating like CRAP on the weekends! Felt sluggish after eating that yummy Zinn Bistro food. These splits are with 3 significant hills. I ran around both parks and up 17th. I was sick of running hills and wanted to run fast after that so I stayed flat. I wanted to do a long run today but didn't get up early enough. It's so nice to run when it's light out. Couldn't run longer cause I had to be at the aux training "experience" from 9-11am. Have an appt. at 1pm. A ward baptism at 3pm and adult session of stake conference tonight. Have to go cause Jeff is saying the closing prayer. Should rake leaves today but...don't think it's gonna happen cause BYU game starts sometime soon and I don't want to rake leaves by myself again.

| | Wanted to try something different so I found something new on exercise tv. 40 minutes of yoga with stupid Bethanny Frankel alongside a real yoga instructor and they were both totally annoying. Won't make that mistake again. I haven't found anyone who tops Bryan Kest for yoga.
Ran 4 miles in 35 minutes, interval training, TM run. Watched part of "The Abyss." Baby crying, kids home from school and gotta drive carpool for 8th grader. See ya.

Time 1:02:24 AP 9:33 Left at 5:20 am YIKES! So proud of myself. Met Deb and she handed me a head light. We ran up Newcastle and met Jill. Went up the trail and saw a shooting star. So cool! Went up to Wasatch and turned right up a big hill to 94th. I conquered that hill! Went down to Highland and home. We would have done 8 but I had to be home around 6:20 to make it to school choir by 7. Didn't quite make it on time:) Still can't believe I got up that early but I'm so glad I did. Having presidency meeting during Josie's nap time so I can't exercise then. It's always better for me to get it done in the a.m. anyway. It's makes a world of difference for me to run outside rather than on the treadmill. So grateful for this great weather! Will hopefully be able to do some weight lifting or yoga later today.

Time 1:14:02 AP 9:16 I almost didn't go because of the wind. I think it's sounds a lot worse from inside my two story house then it really is. The only time the wind bothered me was right around my house, coming and going. Left around 6am and wasn't planning on running 8 miles but decided while running since I had time. I blame the slow pace on no music and tired legs after 4 miles. Blame tired legs on either that trail run two days ago and/or yesterdays killer yoga. At mile 6 I was running down 98th (I think) and turned around to look at the sunrise, sooooo pretty. I saw a girl coming with her dog so I turned around and sped up. Made it more fun cause I was tired and bored without music or people. I don't think I've ever run that far without music. I'm trying to decide if I should use it when I'm alone in the dark. This morning I almost didn't like how I could hear every little noise cause I kept getting startled and even the leaves being blown around were scaring me. It was actually eerily quiet and still (no wind) at times depending on which direction I was running. Sunrise filled the sky the last 2 miles and it was BEAUTIFUL. Anyway...off to "Waaaaaaaalmart." 4 treadmill miles in 35 minutes. Interval training. Said I burned 600 calories. Will have to have Jeff figure out my average pace. Haven't been wearing my garmin inside because I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Guess I should read the book. Oh. I watched "I Shouldn't Be Alive" on Animal Planet. Thrilling!

Time 1:00:01 AP 8:57 Best mile- 5 in 8:27 I went to bed really late for me. 11:45pm. I woke up without alarm at 5am. Went back to sleep until 6am and the ROAD was calling my name. Haven't run outside since the last good Saturday in November, 3 weeks I think.I thought there must either be a storm coming in or just really bad inversion cause of the cloud cover. I ran up toward the mountain as always. I was fun to see all the Christmas lights! At mile 3 I decided to tuck in my under shirt and figured there was no one around since there usually isn't. I had seen two people up to this point. I keep running up a hill as I'm trying to tuck my tight shirt into my tight bottoms and get to the top of the hill and glance to my right and there's a person running right there on the other side of the street. I think it was a guy, not sure. I was a little embarrassed, not that I had even shown skin or anything (had outer clothing on of course) but, that's something you usually do in private. I was surprised, embarrassed and then decided to race all within a matter of seconds. So I sped up and beat him/her? to the end of the street. I took my music and was glad I did. I just figure the boogyman is asleep when I'm running at 6am. My legs were sore. Don't know if that's from the fast run two days ago on the treadmill or just running outside again. My hammies were hurting by the end. Maybe it's cause I was trying to run fast. Had to get home and take Jane to piano. My right big toe has been hurting since that TM run. I'm thinking that toenail will be gone soon. Seems to be taking forever. Felt so good to get back outside! I looked at Costco for Snowtrax and they were out. I think I'll order the yaktrax online and say it's a Christmas present to me. Need them now!

Bryan Kest Power Yoga 1- 52minutes Ran 2.3 miles on treadmill in 20:15 Did 500 running steps on my step at highest level-12 minutes I think I got the step out of the basement yesterday. It's that ancient, cheap hot pink and turqoise step from the 90's. I got it out to do that trainer momma workout cause I don't have a bosu. I left it out after using it and last night I heard someone doing steps and came down to find my husband doing 500 steps (like on Biggest Loser). Then my daughter did 500 after having done some "Insanity" in PE that day already. The best part was when my 1 yr old got on the step and when we said "Jump Josie" she just fell straight forward onto her face and then laughed and got up to do it again. She just kept doing that over and over. We were all laughing hysterically. She has no fear this child! Who knew that getting the step out would bring so much excitement!

| | Time 49:09 AP 9:50 Left at 6:15am. No music. I felt like going slow so I did. I went all over the place and on some streets I never run on. It was all fine except when I thought I heard a baby crying which freaked me out but it was a cat in heat or something. Then later I ran past a house with a chain link fence. I was on the sidewalk for a minute so I was right next to the fence. Two big, ferociously barking dogs jumped out and ran with me the length of the fence and scared me half to death. Stupid dogs. The sky was so clear. The stars were beautiful and so was the sunrrise. Good to get out. Jackie Warner Upper body and abs workout- 30 min

Time 1:34:14 AP 9:26 Haven't run 10 miles since Halloween. It was nice to run outside in daylight. It was slippery and I'm ordering yaktrax as soon as I'm done here. Lots of hills. Ran a big hill last mile. I need a hot shower and will get ready to run my last minute Christmas errands. I don't even care that it's Saturday as long as I don't have to take kids with me. David Archuleta was perfect last night. His voice is amazing and he's such a cutie!
Plank: 1:57 Damn! It's gonna take some practice to catch up to Allie. Maybe it was harder cause I just ran 10 miles AND my right big toe is sore. That nail still hasn't come off.
