| | Time 1:15:54 AP 9:30 This started out as a recovery run and ended as a race to get home to drive my daughters carpool. It was warm, cloudy and looked like rain. I ran straight in to a strong head wind to start out. the first 4.50 miles were hills, wind, and ended with a dead end trail at the top of the bottom of the mountain:) I had to hurry home cause that all took too long. Here are my funny splits for "recovery run." 9:53, 10:10, 10:34, 10:49 (hello! dead end trail I had never been on ), 9:41, 8:21, 8:12, 8:18 (flat). Bryan Kest Power Yoga 2! 51 minutes.

Time 1:14:24 AP 9:18 Splits. Weird run. 10:01, 10, 9:40, 9:04, 8:33, 8:53, 9:37, 8:35.
Went early and didn't feel too great. Headache and body soreness. I took another route I don't usually take that ended with more hills which is unavoidable around here. I guess I should have done speed work today but didn't feel like it. It was a clear, cool, beautiful morning. Not a cloud in the sky. I was heading east for the first few miles of the run and I turned to head west just in time to see the sun touch the snow capped mountains out west. Pretty pink color. Then later at the end of the run I was heading east in time to see the sun touching down on those mountains. Pretty cool. But the best part of my run was that right when I finished around home I saw my best bud LYSA come around the corner. It was so great to see her! We talked for a while before she went to finish her run. She is an amazing woman, sister, daughter, wife, friend, etc. She is a wonderful caregiver to her family members and she is awesome for that and many other reasons. Love you Lys!

Time 2:10:48 AP 9:21
JRP @ 6:15am with my husband Jeff. 2nd time ever running on the JRP. We started @ 72nd and went to somewhere in Taylorsville (James M Park?). This run was harder than I thought it was going to be. I know sometimes I complain about the hills around home but I'm always coming down/speeding up the second half of the run because of it. I tried hard to finish strong on this run but it was tough! I'm thinking I'm a little embarrassed that I even mentioned hoping to qualify for Boston in the near future. I'll be happy to get in around 4 hrs @ Ogden which was my goal anyway, but the rules change before St. George I found out so...no Boston anytime soon. Unless someone out there wants to be my coach and whip me into shape before St. George. I feel like I need a food coach and a running coach. Anyone?????:) My fastest mile was a 9:01. I feel like I should be able to run faster than that at this point but...whatever! Can only do my best! Favorites parts of this run= *running with my husband *seeing Teena Marie running with some tall guy. I almost called her name but thought "what if it's not her!" guess I should have cause I'm like 95 percent sure it was her.
*all the geese but especially the family of geese and the 8 or so fuzzy, baby chicks! so cute. When we came upon them Jeff switched sides to protect me from them cause I'm afraid of being bit (by the scary big ones protecting their little ones right)? I thought that was cute. Thanks honey.
*Awesome weather!!!! And the all time favorite part of this run... *A woman pushing her little DOG in a baby stroller. Never seen THAT before. So because I saw this today I have to tell you what I saw last night. I took my two youngest daughters to the playground. There was a woman there who took her DOG ON the playground. She walked the dog up the stairs, through the tube and up to the slide. I stood there with my mouth half open but kept quiet cause my 1 yr old was amazed by this dog. The dog sat right in front of the entrance to the two slides that my kids were trying to go down. She was talking baby talk and giving the dog treats. We were all just staring in disbelief and I was waiting for her to take the dog down the slide but it didn't happen. She walked the dog back the way they came and left. Not sure what that was all about.
I'm so grateful to be able to run at all and will stop complaining about not running faster!

Time 1:22:59 AP 9:13 6 am Recovery run I wonder if I'll ever get to wear capris/shorts and short sleeves in the morning. It was cool, but beautiful morning with lots of clouds hanging out over the snow covered mountains. No rain during the run which I was a little worried about and I swear I heard a woodpecker. Kind of excited to start tapering:) Any suggestions on what do to after Ogden to kick it into high gear to BQ @ St. George? K maybe that's a dumb question to ask on this blog.

Cross training Total body circuit training with weights-40 minutes Power Yoga-52 minutes Plan on walking at least 2 fast miles around the big block with my daughter in the stroller. SO excited to see the sun again while driving carpool this morning! Hope it stays.
I guess I know what to do to BQ. (See yesterdays post) I'm wondering what to do for a training schedule between Ogden and St. George. Ogden is my 2nd marathon and I've been really strict in following a schedule for both marathons I've run. Like, I have the schedule printed and it's on the fridge and I follow it religiously. Wondering if other people do this or if you just try and run at least 8-10 miles a day during the week and a longer run on the weekend. Do I still have a cross training day w/o running and a rest day before long runs? I want to be smart and not run myself into the ground. BUT I'll do whatever it takes to try and qualify!

Time 52:30 AP 8:45 Tempo run 9:57, 9:24, 9:12, (flat and up) 8:05, 7:54, 7:57 (down and flat)
I started out slow and thought this might just have to be a slow run. I pinched a nerve in my back yesterday (left side) and it killed! The weird thing is, it was while I was driving! I turned to look right and BAM! What? I couldn't turn or bend down. I did the best I could the rest of the day. Then while I was bathing Josie it tweaked again! I think I cussed and seriously had to crawl out of the bathroom very slowly. I called to have my older daughter get her out of the tub. She (Josie) was worried about me and kept saying "Mom! Mom!" I was freaking out a little because this has never happened to me. A spasm, a nerve, I have no idea what this is. I slept okay. Got up to run and it was hurting a little when I first started but then gradually got better. So the entire time since this happened I've been praying it would go away. Please don't let this be something serious so close to the marathon. Please let this go away!!! Well...running this morning seemed to help. I told myself, just run and do what feels good and don't look at the watch. (I did look when I started feeling better) I felt so good! I wore my first pair of capri tights and they're super comfortable. I think that helped me run faster:) The weather was beautiful! I wanted to have a great last tempo run before Ogden. Hopefully the pinched nerve thing will go away. I can still feel it but not too bad.

| | Time 1:20:01 AP 10:00 8 early and easy with Ashley and Emma. First time running with the two of them! Weather was AMAZING! Wore my trusty capri tights and a t-shirt FINALLY! This was Ashley's (my sister, on the blog) first 8 mile run ever and she was awesome!!! She is training for her first half marathon (Utah Valley) and I'm so excited for her! I'm also excited we can run together and look forward to more runs with these two. At mile 6 we ran into Lysa and it was so fun to run some with her. My sister Amber was supposed to come up from Traverse Mountain to run with us but couldn't. Sounds like we have enough to do a fun running group in the future for some long runs! Look forward to running again with all of you guys! Emma and Lysa are running Ragnar and I was sad to find out Lysa is running with another team because WE need her. We're looking for 2 more runners!!! Loving this taper and looking forward to next week!

Ogden Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:05:03, Place overall: 857, Place in age division: 86 | |
WOW! I can't believe I ran another marathon! I still think it's a crazy thing to do. Where do I start. This may be more embellished then people want to read but it's my only blog so I'm writing it ALL here:) Splits walking through water stations. Bolded the one's I'm proud of- 8:47, 8:58, 8:56, 8:37, 9:14, 8:43, 8:36, 9:11,8:58, 8:56, 8:56, 9:22, 9:00,10:08,(mile 14 hill) 9:58, 8:53, 9:10, 8:52, 9:24, 9:27, 9:57,(mile 21-finally saw Allie)! 10:11,(why so slow after seeing Allie?) 9:16, 10:09,(so darn tired and wanting to walk but didn't) 9:37, 9:25, 8:55 (last .49) The last mile I replayed Mat Kearney's "Hey Mama" and that carried me to the finish line. I stayed with the beat even though it was so tough at that point.
My best friend, (since I was 2 yrs old) Cathy came up from Vegas to run this with me. Her husband and friend came with her. This was her and her husband's first marathon. They have done a lot of triathlon's and decided to try a marathon. She ran with an injured IT band (so running slow for her) that started hurting toward the end but she still beat me by a minute. Tough chick. Apparently her slow pace is my fast pace. She carried me through this marathon. It was sprinkling when we came out to catch the bus at 5am. We were praying it would clear up and it did when we got to the top. We were let out in a wide open cow/horse pasture at the top where all the POP's were. I was seriously stepping over huge cow puckies, dungs, whatever you call them. There was mud too but I tried to keep my beautiful blue launches as clean and dry as I could:) There were fire pits all over and that was cool. Kept us warm till the start. I saw RAD and glidergirl so I introduced myself and they were really nice and friendly. They pointed out Teena Marie in one POP line and Smooth in another. Cool to see these FRB people in person. We lined up with the 4hr pacer at the start and the sun was shining BRIGHT! It was a beautiful day for a long run. Cathy and I stayed together for most the run. After the first canyon we came down toward Eden I think and someone was blaring the song "Here Comes The Sun" from huge speakers. That was fun. We were flat for what seemed like forever and then rolling hills around the reservoir. I came upon RAD and Smooth around mile 11 I think. We passed them and I said hi to Rachel again and said "Hey Smooth you don't know me but I know you from the blog!" They ended up passing me at the half marathon water break while I waited for Cathy in the POP and I never caught them again. We were still ahead of the 4hr pacer at this point and heading up the hill (14). Cathy and I decided to start using music at this point. Coming down the hill the pacer caught up and I stayed with the group coming down the hill to the canyon. LOVED this part. A nice cool wind and some downhill. I was loving this part. I stayed with the pacer until mile 18 I think. He cruised through that water stop and I never caught him again. UGH! I was getting tired! I was looking for Allie starting at mile 18 and I'm pretty sure I saw her at 21 right? She was so cute and handed me a bag with jelly bellies! What a sweetheart (I was teasing and asked her to have jelly bellies when I saw and she actually did)! There was a guy with her and I said "Are you James?" Yes it was. I asked if I could just stay with them and James said no, go run so I did. Ran back and gave Allie a hug. Love that girl:) It was fun to run so close to the river. It was SO high and raging. Nice and shady but I was getting tired and kept wanting more downhill for some reason. Cathy kept having to stop and stretch but she always caught up with me. I told her not to stay with me if she felt good. She said she was giving it her all! She must have had a little more to give cause she left me around mile 23/24 and I didn't see her again till the finish line. It was nice and shady along the path and it was nice to run with the water beside. The problem with walking through the water stations toward the end is that I wanted to keep walking. I got a yummy, small otter pop at mile 24(?) and just ran through the last water station right before the mile stretch home. The last 3 miles on that path and home I just tried to give it all I had. I wanted to finish strong no matter how tired I was! I cranked the music and got in the zone! I was passing quite a few people. I passed two guys who were walking on the last mile who were cussing/talking to themselves. Looked like they were cramping up. I just pushed as hard as I could. Like I said earlier, stayed with the beat of "Hey Mama" and ran as hard as I could! I was hoping to be closer to 4 but I'm really happy with my time. 23:40 faster than my first marathon. PR!
