The only reason I ran this race was because David wanted to. I seriously wanted to not pay and just run for fun. We got the start and it was a little over 30 degrees, it was pretty chilly out. I wore running tights and David wore shorts (crazy). We ran a mile around the high school to warm up. The course went around the high school, so it was a good change from the typical place they have their other races.
I saw a few of my students at the start line and I thought it was really cool that elementary age school children were RUNNING a 5k! So cool. My plan was to start off slow and just go off of how my body felt. As I started, I noticed there was no one to really compete against and only men were passing me. What the heck, I just went and felt pretty darn good. Big hill at mile 1 and another one at 2.5 miles. The finish line seemed so far away on the home stretch.
Finished and felt like poop. David got second to a speedy man. David seems to always get second for some reason, but he ran the race in 17:40. Faster than I could ever run. We waited around for the awards and of course they did overall last. I started to walk up before the announced my name, I felt like a weirdo. They also pronounced out last name as Sounduro, in a very heavy Hispanic accent. We basically live in Mexico, so, why not? One of my students ran up and gave me a big hug, it was the cutest things!
We went and got breakfast tacos at Rudy's after, yummy yummy.
