Drove a mile away from the start of the P-half marathon.   Ran uphill 1 mile for a warm-up with some friends I met a few days ago.

Goal for the race 1:35.  Last year I ran this race and I ended with a 1:44.  I thought I was expecting too much of myself.  Goal was to maintain 7:20 mm.

Splits:  6:49, 6:40, 6:48, 6,40, 7:12, 6:57, 7:22, 7:32, 7:14, 6:59, 7,19, 7:07, 7:19, .35.  AP:7:04.

Felt really good about this race. :)

Bet I ran the same race as you : D Saw your pink skirt waving at me, I slowed the last .1 and bailed out at 25 yards to go and came in at 1:33 something. Good run! Melanieb and I drove together and ran 4.5miles before and 1 mile after to get our 18 in. She came in ridiculously fast again, at 1:25 and change. We sure enjoyed this "some race in Provo".

Nice work lady!! So proud of you. You are killing this running thing. YOU are a ROCKSTAR :)

Julie, Julie, Julie...I saw you too! Very nice race. I was not expecting to pull anything under 1:35. MelanieB, is she on the blog? I see her at the gym I go to. Do you run together? She is ridiculously fast, I saw her pass me on that switch back part. She looked as tough she was hardly breathing. Good for you to get 18 in at an amazing pace!

RAD,

I don't know if I am killing the running thing, or if it's killing me....

Bec- Melanie doesn't have time to blog much. I try to get her to and at times she does. She is currently at a family reunion, and went to two parties last night. She keeps going and going.

Are you running Hobbley Creek? We are. We are official there : D

From JulieC on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 13:48:08 from 71.32.226.154

Hobbley Creek, like the spelling error? That is basically how I feel near the end of that thing : D

From JulieC on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 13:52:14 from 71.32.226.154

Oh and we don't run as much together, just talk running a lot. I have only beat her twice, once when she was 39 weeks pregnant last year at Speedy Spaniard (45 minutes me, 46 minutes her) and earlier this year at the 32 miler Antelope Island run by a whole 7 minutes!!! I cannot strive to be that fast, just like to coach her along. She is going to be awesome at SGM. We are also going to do awesome in our own way, right : D We are all in this together, love the blog.

From Bec on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 13:57:06 from 67.177.35.60

Julie,

NO I am not doing "Hobbley Creek." :) You will do awesome, especially if you are registered.

Yeah, Melanie is pretty amazing. She sets her TM at the gym on a 10 and goes forever. Guess that's easy for her because she reads a magazine and talks to people around her. :)

You did the Antelope Island run? Seesh, you are a diehard, hard-core lady. You will be fantastic at SGM. I am doing TOU hoping for a 3:20.

From Teena on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 14:07:46 from 67.177.20.13

Did I read that right??? 1:32:45!!! You owned that course!!!!

Seriously ... AMAZING!!!!

A huge congrats on whatever race that was you ran in Provo!!! :)

From JulieC on Sat, Aug 08, 2009 at 15:04:00 from 71.32.226.154

You can totally get 3:20, you are peaking at the right time. I would just go easy the first half cause it halts around mile 18. Yeah Melanie told me she reads her Ensign while running the treadmill and now that I have a witness I am so thinking "WOW". I would be plastered on the wall if I tried to run fast and read on a treadmill. : D

Julie,

My question is; how in the world does one read while they are on the TM? I can barely watch a TV that is right in front of my face.

I did TOU last year. Took it easy on the first half, and I still fell apart. I am really nervous that I might do the same thing again. I am not necessarily shooting for a negative split on this course, but I want to finish strong. What training advice, if any, do have for me to pull this off?

Totally awesome! I'm glad you didn't stick to 7:20 the whole way and did what you could do instead. You are not afraid to go for the gusto!

Awesome Job!!! You are such a great runner.

From JulieC on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 00:19:28 from 71.32.226.154

Bec- was this course on with your garmin? The mile markers seemed off. Just wondering. This was a faster course I think then last year. No zigzagging thru the riverwoods is a BIG plus. The extra downhill mile at the start was an added bonus too. Oh and no running on the freeway due to avalanche on river trail. Bigger Plus. The first year I ran this was 1995 when it started at Bridal Veil falls on the trail to the old Carterville Rd. went behind ShopKo in Provo back onto the trail all the way to Geneva Road and the park right there. Every year there are changes. This one was one the of the best. PS Advice for TOU, ask Allie. I totally bonked the last 6 in 1999. First half at 1:40 and last six at 10 plus minute miles. Didn't help that my baby screamed all night but Melanie can still PR with that. No excuses. Didn't train well in the long run category. So maybe my advice is to do the long runs at aerobic base pace (180-age for heartrate)so you have energy for the long haul.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 17:48:41 from 71.219.82.15

They changed the course so you did not have to zig zag through the Riverwoods????? DANG IT!!! I love this race aside from that. I totally would have run it had I known that. So, how else was it changed????

From Sasha Pachev on Mon, Aug 10, 2009 at 19:35:12 from 64.81.245.109

Solid race. I think 3:20 in St. George is within the shooting range. I would try the first half in 1:40, and then see what happens in the second. If it is too slow, you can still run as fast as 1:32 in the second half. If it is too fast, given your speed it is not going to be deadly fast, so you will still PR.
