I was planning on 18 today.  The route I chose to do is an out and back course.  The first half is at a gradual 1.5%  to 3% uphill grade.  The second half is coming down that.  I was fine utnil about mile 13.  Then I had some really strange pains going on in my right IT band.  I slowed my pace to 9:20 min miles.  Pain intensified and the last mile I walked back to my car.  :(

I don't know if it is all the stress from so many miles, worn down shoes, or because I was running on the slope of the road.  Probably all of these aspects played into my run.

Later I took an extremely cold ice-bath.

Nice long run, good to listen to your body and slow down and to eventually walk. Don't need to push it hard in training yet. I hope the knee/IT starts feeling better. Ice, stretch and ibuprofen.

Thank you for the support. Sometimes I feel like a whimp backing off. I have to remember that if I don't back off now I will hurt myself even more.

I have a feeling that it probably is a combination of all those things. You have been running an awful lot. I'm glad that you are listening to your body, though. I hope that the pain doesn't persist.
