| | We went to the cemetary and I did 3 laps. Then I just went back to the lower parking lot, and I am guessing I ran about 4.25 because the others all added on to 6. I felt kinda crappy but I guess that's what happens when you only run every other day. I want to b e in shape for this Saturday, but I know that it probably won't happen. Maybe I will be for BYU. |

We ran to Liberty and then went to the mile mark and did 10 1 minute on 1 minute offs and then ran to the drinking fountain and went the long way around back to the school. Then we added on whatever to get to 8. I felt much better than I did yesterday. Although I am VERY sore. |

| | So we did the flagpole run. Flagpole to flagpole then to sugarhouse and went to the first entrance and went a mile out on the road and turned around. Then we went back to the school. I started to not feel so great around the 3.5-4 mile mark. I fell off of the group after the light by sugarhouse. Then I tried to catch them a bit on the way back but it was in vain. When I caught up to Abigail, (and Emmaline and Garek, who went a different way I think?) I decided I would try to keep up with her. Except for the fact that she was full out sprinting for what seemed like forever until I decided to back off. Then of course we both slowed down. Just my luck. Then when I got to the school I didn't see anyone and we were over 8 so I assumed they were adding on. Did it cross my mind that they could be inside? No. So I went to 9. I was still very sore today. |

Weber (1 Miles) 00:05:54, Place overall: 7
Today was Weber. First indoor track race! I didn't do so well though... But it's the first track race so I guess no one ever really does amazingly good except for the people like Tomy and Chris who just always do good. Anyway, I started warming up with Ryan then decided I should go to the bull pen. so I went over there and they gave us our bibs and took our cards and placed us into heats, I was in the faster one. They decided to do the slowest first. So Abigail and I did drills and strides and more warmup stuff. Counting it all as 1.5
So for the 3200 I did really bad. Bill gave us pep talks and such about getting 1 and 2, I wanted to but I don't think I wanted it enough. I thought it would be cool and all, but I should've gotten into the mindset that NO ONE will take 1 and 2 away from us. Yeah, I should've thought more about it so that when the time came I would've been prepared. Anyway, first few laps Abigail and I led, then I lost it and fell off. I wish I would've tried to hang on. When they lapped me I think I just gave up a bit. But last lap I tried to get going, not sure if I moved much faster though. I got 13:28 & 10th place overall.
Then Bill said to eat food and then go for a cool down. I cooled down 2.5 outside in the freezing cold. But it was nice to be able to think and be alone for a little bit.
In between sleeping and laying around, I ran a mile with Bill and Chris.
Then I warmed up with the milers doing C things in the hallways. Went to the bull pen and got my bib and ran the 1600.
I felt like I was much more consistent in this one, it was slow but Bill said time doesn't matter right now. 5:54 with 7th place.
Then Emmaline decided she wanted to do the 4x800. Lovely. So I did that. I was the first leg, I think maybe I thought "hey, it'll be easy" and forgot how hard the 800 actually is. I tried to hang on to the front girl, but she gapped me, then the other girls caught up to me, but at least I was tied for last and not super far back. Yeah, are team lost. But I tried! Then .5 cooldown. |

| | Ran to Liberty and did 4 800s. The terrible air quality aggravated my asthma. I had a hard time breathing and such. Also my legs felt like jelly on top of that. I wish I stayed for the entire thing, from what I hear they only did 1 more. Lovely. Anyway, I think not running yesterday also came into play. But I fought with my mom to let me go, and she wouldn't let me. I don't blame her though it can be scary at night. I should've gotten up earlier and gone for at least 3, but me and my laziness wanted to sleep in thinking I'd be able to later. Now getting to 60 is going to be very difficult, if possible. No one will come run with me in the mornings, probably out of laziness or lack of motivation. Come on people. |

We did about 3 miles warmup??? Something like that. Then we ran. Cool huh? Never saw that one coming did you? :)
It was a 5k. I feel like I did alright. I'm getting back to where I was in the summer somewhat. My 3 mile had to have been under 20. :)
I started out kinda fast, then started to fall back farther in the pack, then Bill caught up to me and told me to hang on to the group that I saw in front of me. It was very weird to not see high school girls but adults in front of me. It was a change. I feel like I didn't crash I just had a hard time pushing myself to keep up. It was very discouraging when I thought of how much the 15k is going to suck and pushing those thoughts out of my head was difficult. weird things go through my mind when I run. Like those runs where all I can think of is the very little bit of spanish I know. I must be very weird huh?
Anyway, I did cool down with Bill, Chris, and Tomy. We got to 9.

I hit 3:45ish, 3:48, 3:53, 3:48, and I can't remember the last one but it was way slow. On that last one I led it and we had a 3 second cushion but then I let it get to my mind with 200 left. Today was the race at the oval. I did about a mile and a half warmup, then did the 1600. I got 5:48. I felt good so I started passing people. Then I got in first and some girl wasn't cool with that so she decided she was going to fight for it. I fought with her for a bit, but then I fell off and the last bit was not good. I wish I stayed on her.

Today I ran the 3200. I did about 3.5 warmup.
I actually think I like the 3200 more than the 1600... that's a change from last year. I'm not very good at it but I like it. Bill just wanted me to run like 88s on each lap. I was on pace for the first 6 laps then I crashed. I regret it so much. I should've just sucked it up. I was fighting people too, and it was after I fought some girl hard that I fell off the pack and then mentally lost it as people passed me. Those last 2 laps were harder than the previous 6.
Then I did cool down to get to 9 |

Today we ran up to the red butte yellow fence. I waited for Bill, Emmaline and Dakota to catch up, then Bill, Emmaline and I ran together going towards shriners. I recognized it after a while, then realized we were at JCC and got really confused because I thought we were going to shriner's not JCC! Yeah turns out you have to go on the road/trail thing that gets you to the JCC trail and go UP the hill (after we thought it was all downhill from the fence) and then I knew where we were going. Bill and I ran along 11th to a bit past the fire station and turned around, then did shriner's run back. Then added to get to 10.25 cause we were just a bit over 10 with a lap... |

We went to Liberty and then did the long way around to the fountain, then we did a lap of firemen and then on the 2nd lap Bill decided to change it to something different, the exact opposite of firemen. Instead of the back person going fast to the front, the front person would move to the side going the same speed and the entire group would stride in front, then repeat. I was with Bill, Chris and Tomy so it was kinda difficult for me but I managed. It was especially hard when Chris would match me when I came up on him while he was supposed to be resting...so I would have to go even faster for longer. But other than that it was alright. Utah Distance Challenge (1 Miles) 00:05:31 | | Today was the meet at the oval. We did 2 laps warmup, stretching, drills, then we did 4 laps warmup, 3? laps speed changes. Then we went over by the start line ish. Bill told me to go in the first heat. It was 5:30 and under, I was a little nervous but I thought I could get around a 5:30, and I was right. They false started us, and so we did a lot of strides. I didn't really know how fast I should go out, I just decided to go with the group and not go crazy. I think I like consistency much better then going fast and crashing. It felt good. I liked the race as a whole. I feel like I should've started kicking a LOT sooner. I picked it up a bit with 100 left, then really started with 50. Abigail out-kicked me at the last second and finished .14 of a second in front of me, but now I know what I need to work on. I PR'd so at least one good thing came out of it. Then I did 1.5 cool down with Megan, Sarah, and Emmaline. Warmed up for the 800 with Emmaline, probably about a mile, then went over to the line, I was late so I just went in heat 3. I did a few strides while I waited for it to start. I got the best spot on the line!!! :) Some girl started out way fast, I went through a process of thinking where I couldn't decide if I should go with her, then I thought what the heck, so I went with her. It felt fast, but I felt like I could do it, and just told myself she was going to crash eventually. She did around the 400. Then I was a little iffy about passing her remembering what happened last time at the oval when I moved into first, but I still did. Then I just focused on trying not to crash, and then kicking. Once again had a hard time getting myself moving, but I won my heat! And I PR'd!!! 2:34ish is what my watch said. I experienced my first ever runner's high on the cool down with Megan and Sarah, and I liked it :) |

Saltair 10k 2013 (6.214 Miles) 00:43:44, Place in age division: 1 | | We did 3 miles warmup, then we had to hurry to the line because they were about to start. 5 seconds to the gun I was still ripping off my sweatshirt and putting on my watch. Well, first mile was WAY too fast. I was probably under or close to under 6 minutes (I started my watch late). 2nd mile was 6:34. then 6:43, 7:45, 7:32, 7:23. Then the little bit over 6 miles. I decided I'd just try to settle a bit. I could feel myself crashing with .5 to the turn around. The wind and snow in my face as soon as I turned around was the worst feeling ever. Hence the 7:45. On the way back I kinda feel like I was just running it at that point. I had a very hard time kicking. The kick was actually the worst part, and as soon as I started the wind decided to pick up a bit, then I was running directly into it as the road curved. At least I beat last year's time. Then when I realized I was 1 mile over 65, well 1. whatever, I decided to go to 70. I ran with Bill and some other guys from the blog. On the way out I kept up with them, then I turned around and decided I wanted to go at a slow pace. I could've kept up with them, but I was tired and ready to be done. 2 mile shakeout run with megan PM: Simplot! We drove up to Pocatello and after like 7 hours of sitting around we did a 1.25 loop and then started drills, then after a few we went inside, changed shoes, and went to the line. I got in a lot of good strides right before the race. Counting that as about 2 miles warmup. I wanted to get 5:20ish. I was on pace for it for about the first 6 laps, maybe like 1 or 2 seconds off. I just tried to hit the pace the best I could, and stick with the group. I almost fell off the track a couple of times and I think I accidentally pushed someone when I did... :0 I felt good at that pace, but then the last 2 or 3 laps were hard and I think I just lost focus and backed off. I feel like if I would've worked harder those last couple of laps I could've been at least close. But oh well, I still have saturday because I made finals!!! Now I know what it's like to race on that track. Saturday I'm hoping to have a good race, especially since we'll be able to wear spikes! :) No cool down because Bill said it depended on if I made finals, then when we found out everyone was leaving... so I'm assuming I wasn't supposed to cool down...

I did about a mile warmup and then drills in the bull pen area. Then I spiked up and was placed in my heat.
I got in good position and the first few laps I was feeling great and on pace for 5:20ish. Then after the 800 I started to feel tired and it got harder, and I slowed down. I really need to work on the last half. I also didn't kick very well if at all. But I did much better than last year where I kind of dogged it and was satisfied with being there. I feel like this outdoor season is going to be a good one.
After watching a few races and cheering Bill on in his coaches mile, we did 6.5 miles of cool down I think it was. We went to the trail and then did a few laps in that cemetery and then went back. I was tired and had a harder time keeping up, but I managed. When we got back we did a lap around the building to add on.
I want to get my times down to 5:20ish and possibly under, so I'll have to start working harder, but I think I could do it if I really tried.

Well, I wasn't expecting a 15 miler. I thought maybe a 10 or 12, but definitely not 15. We met at the Cowboy Grub and then Kim drove us somewhere...It was near the top of Emigration canyon. We went out .75ish to a gate and then went back, then went on another road that turned out to be the top of Emigration canyon. Bill was saying there were 2 parts to the hill, and there were. But I think I ate too much for breakfast and so I felt really sick to my stomach. I fell off of Bill, then Dakota caught up to me and encouraged me to go with him, so I did for a little while. My quads started to hurt and I felt kinda lethargic but I didn't sleep well last night...
Anyway, we took some side road and went .25 out and back, then finished down Emigration canyon and then went on wasatch to thunderbird, then back to the cowboy grub and did another mile with Bill to finish to 15. Now I'm really worn out and hungry. |

| | Today we went to the oval. I felt terrible and couldn't hit most of my times. We did 8 laps warmup, 4 laps speed changes, then did another lap (actually I think I did 2 laps). Then we did 2 sets of 800, 600, 400, 300, 200, 100. It probably shouldn't have been that hard of a workout, but I just felt terrible. After the 400 I lost it mentally and was with the "conversationalists." but I still went faster than them, I hit a couple of them on pace, but I can't remember which ones. The 100 was way faster than it should've been. Then on the 2nd set I really wanted to quit and not finish the set. I did the 800, then really quit on myself, stood around for a while, then Olivia told me to start the 400, so I did. I'm really disappointed in myself. I should've sucked it up and gotten it over with. After I finished that set I did a cool down to what I believe to be 10.5 |

Today I felt alright, much better than yesterday, but still not great. We went up 9th to foothill and then did the VA loop to guardsman, then shriner's run. I fell off of Tomy and Chris by the roundabout. We went out along 11th to the turn around and then came back, but then Bill told me to turn around and do another mile with him and Dakota. Then we turned around once again and went back to the school.
Then I had some cough/asthma attack, and as soon as I got home I grabbed my inhaler and told my mom. She thinks I have RSV, which isn't all far-fetched because my little sisters have it. The combination of RSV and the poor air quality must've aggravated my asthma. So now I can't run for a couple of days. I just hope I can recover quickly. It actually explains a lot, and it could be part of why I've had a hard time this week. |

I was able to keep up with Tomy and Chris the entire time, which I thought would be difficult since I took off yesterday but I actually felt pretty good! |

Saltair 15k (9.321 Miles) 01:08:30, Place in age division: 1
Today was the 15k. I didn't get any warmup in, and to make it worse I got to the startline right at 10, but they had started the race 2 minutes earlier!!! That makes me mad. It was so cold and snowy! I just was having a bad day. I went much slower than I had planned. But for a lot of it I feel like I was just running it, not racing. Then at the turn around the wind was strong and I lost a lot of motivation, so for the next couple of miles I had in my head how much this sucked and how much I hated the wind and the snow and kept getting really mad when my sweatshirt hood wouldn't do what I wanted it to, or when my sunglasses fogged up. Then about 1.5 miles left some guy started to move on me and I decided I would suck it up and pick up the pace. It probably wasn't that great of a pace still, but it WAS faster. Then towards the end Bill ran with me and told me to stick on him. It was a little faster, and then right at the end I was able to outkick someone. I feel like if I had a proper start and if I had people around me that were my same speed I would've done a lot better. Then I did cool down with Bill until we saw Dakota and Kim in the warm car and I jumped in, then finished to 11 a while later.
I'm just guessing what the time was |

Then when we were by the fire station we turned around and went by popperton and the JCC trail and then went Legacy bridge way back. Bill and I added a little to be safe, my watch died! he mapped it and it turned out to be 12.4. |

Bill told me to be more positive when writing this, so here's me being positive:
Today was a great day! We ran to Liberty and went long way to the fountain. Then we did 3 laps and went back long way. Then we added on doing some loop and a couple laps around the school. I kept up with Tomy and Chris for most of the time! I fell off of them going up the hill on 9th, but I pushed through wanting to stop and walk up that. It was wierd to be talking while going that fast, I'm so used to silently thinking about hanging on for as long as I can. But I liked it, it was nice to distract myself from running. Our fastest mile was a 6:35. I feel pretty good about this workout!
I finally feel like I'm improving! I am excited for this track season, and I have set high goals and I hope to achieve them! I also would like to go to Arcadia this year, so I will have to work hard this next little bit but I think I could do it! |

4 with Megan PM: So today I had an appointment, so I just ran from my house and met the team at sugarhouse. They had already started hills, but Bill was nice and ran my 5 hills with me :) then we went over to the other state hill right by the start, and we did 5 more hills. Then I ran another lap with Bill, Chris and Tomy. We tried to add as much as we could by going on the outside of parking lots, but they were snowy. Then we ran back to East. I pushed and tried to keep up with them. When they stopped at 10.25?? I ran another half mile to get to 9.5. I felt pretty good today!

| | AM: 4 with Megan again. Today we did some unwanted hills and then had to pick up the pace at the end, so it was a little harder than normal :) PM: Today I was feeling tired and hungry, but I just worked through it. The first 2 miles kinda sucked because a lot of it was uphill. We went up 9th to Foothill and then up past the zoo, onto Wasatch and then to the drinking fountain on Foothill. Then we went along Foothill to 13th to 19th to sunnyside. Then Bill and I added on guardsman to the light and back, then a bit more at the school to get to 11. I started out with Bill then when Tomy and Chris came up on us I went with them, but then started to fall off of them at foothill. I missed the next light and so they got farther ahead. But I didn't let that affect me, I still pushed. I warmed up and it wasn't bad anymore. I started to pick it up a bit on Wasatch. Then around 13th Bill caught me. The last couple miles also were difficult, but manageable. It still was a pretty good run, I feel like I'm getting faster finally! I'm flashing back to summer and I want to be as good as I was then. I'm excited to start racing again and see where I'm at! |

We went up 13th to Wasatch, then over to sunnyside and up Emigration canyon. We turned around at 5 and came back. I felt sick to my stomach most of the run, but that's probably because of the fries and frosty I ate right before. It was still a pretty good run, the way back was fast. |

| | Today we went to the oval. I did a little extra warmup with Bill because we both needed a lot more mileage. We did 10 laps warmup, 4 laps speed changes, then changed shoes and went to the line. We did 5x1000s. I was supposed to hit 3:30s. There were a TON of people there and several million things in lane 1. Just kidding, more like 2 bleacher things. But it was annoying and it probably slowed us down a lot. My times went 3:37, 3:38, 3:39, 3:50, 3:51. I lost focus on the 2nd to last one, then the last one I just wasn't focused at all. I didn't pay much attention to how I was doing, I was listening to Payphone on the radio and it reminded me of Natalie :) Then I realized afterward I should've actually tried harder. Then Bill and I did like 22 laps to get to 14 miles for the day. This was a tough week but I feel good about it, and I'm excited to go to 80 next week! I don't think I got the shoes thingy right, I just guessed. |

2 mile shakeout with Megan!
PM:
We did normal warmup of 2 laps and stretching and drills, then the 1600 runners warmed up. I did 2 miles warmup and a mile of speed changes, but I started later than everyone so I still had a lap to go when they all finished. Then changed shoes and did some more warmup when it got closer to time to start. I wasn't really in the racing mode. All I could notice on the warmup was how tired I was and how much my quads hurt when I ran.
For the 1600 I feel like on my 3rd lap I could've gone faster. I went out too fast at a 76. Then I slowed down a lot and I think the 800 was 2:42. I pushed though and that's all that matters. And Bill said the time doesn't matter much, and it was really windy. My throat hurt a lot afterward, but is fine now :) Got a 5:48.
For the 400 I feel like I could've kicked more but I worked hard. I was still tired from the 1600 too. It was a 72. Then did cool down with Megan and Sarah to 8 because I had to be home. We did grass laps and then decided to go in the cemetery and do a lap, even though getting to it was super muddy! (we went through the fence)
My achilles was free of pain!

| | Today was a good day. We did the shriner's run up to the fire station. I tried to hang with Tomy and Garek. Then we continued along 11th and turned to city creek. We stopped at the fountain and got a drink and waited for the rest to catch up. Bill and I needed more and so we went up along city creek. We were originally going to go 2 miles extra to get to 12, but then we decided to go an extra mile out and back. Then we went back along south temple. A little bit before south temple my achilles started to hurt again. South temple isn't as bad as I remember it. It's just really long and the last bit sucks. But by 13th I was so glad we were close-ish to being done. Along 13th we stopped just for a little for lights, but my achilles would always hurt more when we started again. But then it would warm up again and be okay. Dakota said it was 10.1 when he got there, but I'll round down to 14 just in case. |

Today we went to the oval. I think I did pretty well considering how tired I was feeling on the warmup. We did 4 laps, stretching, and another 4 laps then 4 more laps of speed changes. Then we did another lap and went to the start line.
The workout was 6x800s with a lap recovery. I think Bill said I was supposed to hit them all 2:53-2:55ish. I was feeling good the first one, then as it went on they got harder. But I hit all of my times! They went 2:53, 2:54, 2:54, 2:54, 2:50, 2:49. The 2nd to last one Bill said to hit 2:53 but I went faster :) then the last one I was to try to keep up with Dakota, but he was a lot farther ahead of me. :/ but overall a good workout.
Then I did cool down to 10.

When I could no longer hear Tomy yelling on and off I would just look at Dakota and see if he was going fast or slow. Then when Tomy and Chris lapped me I could tell that they were now just adding on. I stopped. Then Dakota and I ran to the school and picked up bus passes and then ran back, counting it as .5 Then when I got home I decided that 7.5 was not enough mileage for one day, so I did another 4. Practice meet @ East (1 Miles) 00:05:49, Place overall: 2
Today was the practice meet at East. I don't know why but I didn't think I was racing. But I did. I honestly wasn't at all prepared to race. My only preparation for it was thinking, "run fast." I did a mile warmup, then stretching and drills. Then 2 more miles warmup with the boys, and a mile of speed changes using half of the track. Then went over to the start line.
Bill told me to take it out fast at 75. My first lap was 74-75. My 800 was 2:38. Then I had a hard time moving after that, and when Abigail came up on me I wasn't prepared to fight. I let her go and didn't care about it. My last 800 must've been very slow. I'm mad at myself that I just let her go like I did, but it's a practice meet and that's why we practice. Any other day I feel like I would've done much better.
After doing the 1600, I cooled down a bit. Then warmed up for the 800. I got mad when a girl decided to get right in front of me and slow down. So at the 100 I passed her and took the lead, then kept my pace and just tried not to slow down. 2:37.
Then Bill told me I was doing the 800 in the medley. My split/time was 2:38, same as the 800 split in the 1600.
Then did the 4x400 relay. It felt fast. I don't know what it actually was.
Did a cool down with Tomy and Chris then added on to get to 10 for the day.

Today was the meet for the freshmen and sophomores. I ran the 3200, 1600, 800, and 400. I've got to say I was tired afterward. I warmed up and did strides.
I felt good the first 2 laps, got a good lead, then I slowed down from there. I wish I would've done better, but now I am reminded of what the 3200 is like, it's been a while since I've raced it. I believe I got 12:38.
Then for the 1600 I did terribly again, 5:57. I was tired from the 3200.
The 800 and 400 felt fast, I feel like I did better.
Then I did some cool down with Chris and realized how much I would have to do tomorrow to get to 80...Man this week was definitely not a good week for me in more ways than one.

Davis Super Meet (2 Miles) 00:11:53, Place overall: 5
Today was the Girls Davis super meet! I did 1.75 warmup.
I just tried to stick with the front pack (yes they were all davis girls) and it actually worked pretty well to have people there to push me. It was nice to have a group to stick with. I knew about what I was supposed to be hitting and it helped to have Bill tell me what to do. The first couple laps felt really good. My mile split was 5:38. Then it gradually got harder, and I fell off of that pack with about 800 left. It got so much harder and I really wish I had stayed with them. I eventually was able to pick up the pace but by then it was too late. But I PR'd!
Then pretty much right after that I had to do the 4x800. I started it out. That pace felt so much faster (and it was) but I still quit on myself when I was fighting some other girl, so my last lap was probably a lot slower. My split was 2:42.
Then did probably a half mile cool down :) |

I didn't mean to include so much uphill in the run, I just grabbed my watch and turned whenever I felt like it. It was windy too, I feel bad for the guys who had to race in it. Pineview Invitational (1 Miles) 00:05:29, Place overall: 15 | | Today was Pineview! After a long car ride and going to Walmart, we arrived and found out that they were doing the seeded girls first, then seeded boys, then the rest of girls and then the rest of boys. So that meant I didn't have as much time as I would've liked to warmup. Emmaline and I did a mile warmup, then I had to do strides after getting confused about the bull pen... my hip was bothering me a bit. It was my first race being in the seeded heat! It intimidated me a bit. But it really wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, sure I was towards the back of the pack but I wasn't dead last :) I got an okay start, there was a lot of pushing and shoving. The first lap felt alright, then I felt really sick to my stomach. I think I ate too much at Wendy's. At least I can learn from it. The third lap I just tried to push and not slow down too much, then the 4th I just gave what I could. I sort of slowed down the last 200 which I regret a lot, I could've gotten a better time. I just need to work on my kick, I think I just have a hard time accepting that it's gonna hurt, and it's time for that to change. I didn't feel my hip at all during the race which is good :) Overall, I'm a bit disappointed with this race, I wanted to qualify for state, if not at least get close. But I PR'd, and I guess I should be happy about that. Then I did a mile cool down on my own, then later went on a group run with the team. We did 6 miles. My hip started hurting on the last mile, so I iced it, and my knee hurt a bit when I stopped so I iced that too. |

Running of the Leopards 2013 (3.107 Miles) 00:18:39, Place in age division: 3
Today was the Running of the Leopards 5k. It was snowing and icy and cold. I got a mile warmup in. I was super tired from yesterday, I didn't get much sleep last night either so that didn't help either. I was a bit worried about my hip. I really wasn't prepared to race either, I was still in my sleepy mode.
I got out pretty good, but after like 50 meters I could feel how tired my legs were. My first mile was 5:41. I tried to fight a few people here and there. But pretty soon people were passing me. I was tired and didn't want to push very hard. Then I saw Bill and he told me to try to catch up to Abigail, so I tried again. Going along Sunnyside I picked up the pace, but somehow I managed to slow down again, but at least now I was going at the same pace as people around me. 2nd mile was 6:11. 3rd was 6:04. The 300 mark I started to kick, 200 slowed down yet again, 100 some girl started to pass me and I got mad and outkicked her. I think I elbowed her quite a few times, now I feel bad. Every time I'm aggressive I feel bad, but every time I'm not I regret it. :(
I was 2nd in age division, 3rd girl overall. I need to work on the last little bit of my race. I talked to Natalie this weekend and she shared some things with me, and I think it was what I needed, now I know what to do, and I have a bit more confidence. Thanks Nat!!
Then I went on a cool down with Bill, Chris and Tomy, we went up to guardsman then to the cemetery and did 2 laps, then to the school and Bill and I continued to Liberty and went the long way, then went along 6th East and back.
I feel like a slacker now, I went home and took a 4 hour nap and then it was too late to go for my evening run :( At least I got some sleep. I've been sleep deprived for weeks now, and I think that's why it's been so hard for me to run in the mornings. |

We went along 13th to South temple and some street (I think it was T street) and started our avenues run where we stride up the hill to the next street and recover downhill (turning left) and starting again on the next one. I think I did well, I could kind of keep up with the boys, of course we were strung out on the hill part but not too much, I was able to catch up on the recovery parts. Towards the end it got harder as the hills got steeper. Then we did shriner's run back to the track, I kept up with Chris and Tomy on all of that part, then we did a grass lap while waiting for the rest to catch up, and then did 2 300s. Then a little more to get to 8. I was feeling a little tired, my legs felt heavy. |

PM:
Today was speed. We did the normal warmup with the team, then distance did a mile warmup and a mile speed changes. Then we did another lap and started our workout. It was 3 1200s with a lap recovery and 6 200s with recovery to the start. My 1200s were supposed to be 4:20-4:25. They went 4:18, 4:16, 4:26. On that last one I crashed a ton on the 2nd lap and had to kick which sucked. But it was nice to have Caden there to push me. The 200s were supposed to be on feel, not supposed to hit a specific time. Mine went 36, 36, 36, 37, 35, 36. Then I did 2 grass laps to finish to 8. |

| | Today wasn't a very good day for me. I think it all started when I didn't run this morning, odd enough. I need to get better at getting myself up that early. Anyway, We did normal warmup, then distance went to the gully and we had to do improvised laps because they blocked off the part at the top of the hill with a fence. We did 3 of those. I fell off of Chris and Tomy in the gully, and there really isn't an excuse for it. I felt okay, I think it was just the mood I was in. Then we went to sunnyside and did 10 barefoot strides. Then we put our shoes back on and went back to the track, and Tomy, Chris, Bill and I added 2 miles. |

For the first bit I just stayed with Dakota and John, then I fell off and just put as much effort as I could into it. Good news! I decided to roll out my IT band this morning and my hip didn't hurt! :) Then we did another lap and down to the track, then I added .5 with Tomy and Chris and a little more after that to get to 8. |

Today Megan and I decided to do 3 :) It was really hard to wake up. PM: Today I wasn't feeling that great, I didn't get much sleep last night. 4 grass laps warmup, 2 miles speed changes, then I did 2 grass laps cool down, I don't know what I was thinking but for some reason I thought we only were doing a mile cool down, I didn't listen to the directions. Now that I think about it 1 doesn't even make sense, I must've been really out of it.

UVU Invitational (1 Miles) 00:05:32
Today was the UVU Invitational. We left later than planned, and the bus lady took a wrong turn, so we were late. To make matters worse, they were doing fastest heats first, and the 1600 was the very first event. Great. So I grabbed my spikes and got off the bus in my socks, ran to the line with Bill and they put my number on my arm (it hurt to pull off) and I threw on my spikes. Absolutely no warmup, they were all waiting for me. I didn't even have time to think about my race plan. It was probably the weirdest race ever, I had no feel for how fast I was going, I didn't know if these girls were going too fast or too slow, I just stuck with the pack. I was towards the back, the first lap was 77. I don't know any other splits, they didn't call any of the other ones out. Probably because I wasn't close enough to the front, which is annoying. I was cold if anything. I really didn't warm up until the last lap where I finally felt warm. It went by much faster than I thought it would. I wasn't focused, it didn't really settle in that it was a race and I needed to be pushing until a few minutes after my race. I felt better after my race than I did before. I got 5:32, which I'm disappointed about. I wanted to get under 5:20 today, but I guess I have to try to do that another time. For no warmup I guess it's alright, I was only 3 seconds off of my PR. I did a mile cool down with Megan and Sarah. Then I sat around for hours, and finally I warmed up. I did 1.5 plus about .25 worth of strides. I was in the medley doing the 800. I was SO HUNGRY I only packed a few snacks, I didn't think it through when packing. My split was 2:34-2:35, but our team got DQ'd because of a handoff. (I think it was mine and now I feel bad. I hate handoffs.) I did a mile cool down. Then I warmed up with Megan for a mile and continued to 2, .25 of strides. I was doing the 4x400, but because of asthma I think it was, our 3rd girl dropped out, and I was supposed to be the anchor, so I wasn't able to race :( Oh well, I can relate so I don't blame her. Then I did 1.25 cool down.

So since it's spring break, we all were to meet at the track, but I had to go to an orthodontist appointment, so I came late. I expected a lot more people to be there, but when I got there it was only Abigail and Sarah, so I was gonna have to do this workout on my own, which I REALLY didn't want to do. And I was already in a bad mood when I came. :( I did a mile warmup and a mile speed changes, then changed into flats. The workout was a mile, then 4x400s, then 3x300, 200, 100 ladder. Did 2 laps after my mile, standing recovery for the 400s, then after 300s ran to 200 start, after 200s to 100 start, in between sets a lap and to 300 start. It was at 2 mile pace. Mile was 5:53, 400s went 84, 82, 79, 88. A lot faster than what I registered in my mind at the time so I thought I was doing a terrible job, might explain the 88. I think I thought the 79 was actually an 89 at the time, but my watch doesn't lie to me. :) It was windy too, which sucked. The last ladder part I didn't catch my times, but I worked hard. Then I did a cool down with Tomy and John to get to 8.5 (they showed up a little later than I did)

| | I would have run this morning, but I had to go to my great-grandma's funeral. (Love you Nani) I got the workout from Bill and ran to Liberty, then to the start line. Of course I got the treat of pouring rain for the first couple minutes, then it stopped. After that it was beautiful outside! But it got pretty windy when I got close to Liberty. Stupid Utah weather. I got 2.5 warmup. It was tempo, I was supposed to run at 7 minute pace for 4 miles with a total of 28 minutes. I got 28:50, but because of the wind it probably slowed me down. I ate a ton of food right before, too. So I felt like puking the entire time, but other than that it was fine. Then I ran back up to my house (yes up that huge hill on 13th) until I got to 8, then decided I was done because I didn't want to have to add another .25 once I got home. So I walked home from Uintah. :) |

Arcadia Invitational (2 Miles) 00:11:15, Place overall: 22
Today was Arcadia! In the morning I went for a 4 mile shakeout with Bill. I warmed up with Emmaline for about .5 before her race at the Tiger's meet. Then when it came time, I warmed up 2.5 miles. I started to get a little nervous when we got on the track, but not as nervous as I thought I would be. I was in the 3rd waterfall. When I cut in at the 100 mark I was what I thought to be towards the back of the pack. I decided that today I was going to finish the race, and I was going to stick with the pack. My first lap was a 79, then for the rest of the race I focused on the people in front of me. When I felt good I threw in a couple bursts. It scared me a bit when I came through the mile mark at 5:30, a second off my PR. I think I raced smart, there was only one part where I slipped a bit. Then I decided to accept the pain and race, and I focused on those in front of me and didn't think about the race as a whole, but as individual parts. The last 400 I started to kick, then tried to do our 300 kick, and the last 100 a girl was coming up on me so I kicked hard and fought her, but unfortunately she beat me by hundredths of a second :( But overall a great race, I PR'd by 38 seconds and crushed the only competition in our region! I have realized how much stronger I am than I thought I was, and now I know how to race. I'm really glad I came, I have learned a lot from it :) Then I did cool down with Tomy, Chris and Bill for about 2.5 miles

Went for a 4 mile run
PM:
Today I wasn't feeling so great, my stomach was hurting but I decided to push through it. I started with Chris, but after 2 miles at 6:40 pace I backed off to 7:20 pace. I stopped twice because my stomach was hurting, but I started again a minute later each time because I felt like a slacker. We went to Sugarhouse and I did 2 grass laps, I think Chris did 3. I slowed down a bit going back along 13th. Added some at the school to get to 8. 7:24 average. There was a light drizzle, but then it randomly started to pour which sucked because I was soaked. |

We did normal warmup of 2 laps and stretching and drills, then a mile warmup and a mile speed changes. Then we decided to go to the oval because of the wind and coldness.
After driving to the oval, we did 8 laps warmup, 4 laps speed changes, then I finished another lap. We changed shoes and went to the line. The workout was 6x800s at 2 mile pace, except we all PR'd recently at Arcadia, so it was at a faster pace. We had a little over a lap recovery. I was to hit 2:50s. Bill said that if I hit my times I would only have to do 5! So I hit them. They went 2:45, 2:50, 2:50, 2:50, 2:48. The last couple were the hardest. But I'm glad I got it over with. Then we did cool down to 11, about 3 miles of it :) |

Today was a Tri-meet, but Bill pulled a few of us aside and gave us a workout. We were supposed to do 4 miles warmup, then a 10x30 second on 30 second off, then finish to 8. We really weren't going that fast, but it was all uphill on the way out. It sucked. I fell off of the boys, mostly out of not wanting to push to be with them, I regret it now. So when we lost track of where they went, Abigail and I took some dirt road that seemed like where they went, but then turned around and went further up the road, then started our fartlek-type part of the workout. I didn't like the downhill much more than the uphill. I felt like after the steep downhill I could've gone a lot faster, but Abigail and I had a fun little chat :) |

Alpha Invitational (1 Miles) 00:05:29
Today was the Alpha Invitational at Timpanogos. I warmed up for 4.5 miles. I raced the 1600 and then the 400 literally right after, they were right next to each other. I was in the fastest heat for the 1600. I feel like my 2nd and 3rd laps should've been faster, and I could've kicked better too. I'm disappointed with my race, I wanted to state qualify, but I guess next time will have to do. It felt too short. I think I might've been racing it like a 3200 instead of a 1600, odd enough. I wish it was a 3200 because then it meant I could slow down to a 6 minute mile and still qualify for state. Qualifying for state in the 3200 seems a lot easier to me now, I know I can do it. I just have to go out and actually race the whole thing. Then for my 400, it was the first time I have really raced it, and it hurt. A different kind of hurt. It was a 69. Then I cooled down 2 miles.

Alpha Invitational 3200m (2 Miles) 00:11:47, Place overall: 11 | | 2nd day of the Alpha Invite. Today I was doing the 3200. I warmed up with Megan for 2 miles, then I just kept running so as not to lose my warmup. I didn't realize how long it was going to be until about mile 4. Then it was too late to stop running, if I did then it would waste whatever warmup I had. So I got 6.5 miles in. Yay. I really thought I would qualify today, but I guess not. I am really mad about my race. The first part of it I was right on pace. Summer Harper was pacing Candace to qualify and I knew I needed to stay with them. The first mile was all a blur, but I know that on one of the laps the pace just felt too slow and I passed Summer and Candace, which probably wouldn't have been a mistake if I hadn't have slowed down so much the next lap. I had a hard time focusing after that, then when Summer and Candace came up on me Summer said, "you're right on pace to qualify." Then they moved around me. Summer's so sweet. I really wish I had gone with them, I probably thought it was too hard or I wouldn't be strong enough or something else that probably wasn't true. I was crashing mentally. I thought it would've been a lot like Arcadia, where I just had to focus on the group and go with them. There was no group to begin with. I should've focused better and I am so mad about it. The worst part is that if I would've just stuck with Candace like I knew I needed to, I would've qualified. I think there were a lot of factors that went into this race, I didn't prepare as well as I should have, I had raced the previous day, and I had gotten a ton of warmup in, and plenty more that I don't feel like sharing. I did a mile cool down. |

| | Today I went for my own run, I went over to sugarhouse, then down to 13th, towards cottonwood complex, then when it started to go more downhill I turned up so that my last half of the run would be a little more enjoyable, found myself by the cemetery we usually run to in the summer. So I did a lap, there was a guy in there that looked like he was digging up some grave, or at least the stone, I didn't really want to know what he was doing so I shortened my original plan to do 2 laps to 1 lap and then headed back. I have the worst luck in the world. I thought the way back was going to be easier, I chose to go that way because of the wind, I thought I'd have it to my back on the 2nd half. NOPE. It picked up and then shifted when I was close to 13th East. So I was running straight into the wind, and it made it a whole lot tougher, and I had to hurry to get to a babysitting job. Of course they decided to cancel. When I got back to sugarhouse I continued along 13th to 13th, up to a little past 19th and turned back down 13th to my house and added a bit to get to 10.25. |

Today we did our normal warmup of 2 laps stretching and drills, then we did 6 hill strides up the asphalt. I felt really slow on all of these, but that could be because it was a monday and I am not a sprinter :) So I just focused on form for all those. I couldn't go as fast as I wanted. Then we did wall sits and arm swings, and then our drills/bleachers circuits. Then we did X strides across the football field, I felt slow too. I was feeling crappy. Then we did a ladder of fartlek, 1 minute, 2, 3, 4, 4, 3, 2, 1, and however many minutes of recovery between. I just listened to Bill yelling on and off. I started out with Caden, but then after the first one I felt like I could go faster so I started to work my way up to Garek. When I caught up, he went with me and it made the workout a ton easier. But then he stopped and I was alone again, so the last part was harder. But I felt good for the fartlek, so that was nice :) Then we did cool down to 9.5 |

Today we did our normal warmup, then a few of us went to the oval. We did 8 laps warmup, 4 laps speed changes. On the warmup I was already thinking of how terrible this workout was going to be, I was really sore and I was super hungry because I managed to leave over half of my lunch at my house this morning. I must've been losing it this morning because I thought I had forgotten my watch, turns out I did put it in my bag, but thought I brought everything else, and left part of my lunch at home :( Anyway, I did not have a positive mind to begin with. Plus I didn't really have anyone to pace me, Bill was calling times and the only other people doing the speed were Tomy and John, who are both a ton faster than me.
We did a lap and then went to the line, our workout was a mile, 1200, 800, 400, and 4x200s. We were supposed to do the mile at 2 mile pace, then on each of the next ones each lap was supposed to be a second faster. In my mile I started out on pace, then the next lap was a few seconds slower, and then I felt like I was only running it, and probably ended up just quiting on myself. I'm completely ashamed of my times. The mile was 5:54. The 1200 wasn't much better, I can't remember my time. Then on the 800 I felt worse, I almost lost it when I heard my time. 3:03. I was so close to not even finishing the workout at that point. Then Bill yelled at me as I was heading over to the drinking fountain and I knew it would be better if I just finished. My times finally were close to the pace. On the 400 I hit 75, then the 200s went 36, 35, 36, 37. Even though I hit somewhat close to my times on the 2nd half, I am very very mad about my workout. But now I have learned my lesson, I won't leave my lunch at home and I will try to be more positive. |

East, Clearfield @ Bountiful (1 Miles) 00:05:38, Place overall: 3
AM:
I went for a 2 mile shakeout
PM:
Today was a Tri-meet at Bountiful. I thought I was going to be running a 400, 800 and 2 relays because that's what I was signed up for, but then right before Bill told me I was doing the 1600...because I didn't hit my times in the speed. :( So I dropped the 400. I did 2.5 miles warmup.
I got a terrible start people were elbowing me and I was stuck behind everyone. I was able to pass a lot of people as the race went on, but I wish my start would have been better. It was so cold and after the 2nd lap my muscles just felt frozen and numb and it was terrible. I think I should've worked a bit harder in the 3rd lap too. I was able to kick a little, which is much better than the beginning of the season :) I got third with 5:38. Not the time I was hoping for, but I didn't prepare at all for this race, other than bringing food (which eventually disappeared). And we had speed yesterday, and it was freezing. But I still wish I had gotten a better time.
Then I cooled down for 2 miles, warmed up for 1.
The 800 was pretty good. I haven't done it much, I've been focusing more on the 3200. I like the 3200 :)
I once again got a terrible start, I need to work on that. I was trapped behind everyone, then I saw how far ahead the leader was. I worked my way up there. My first lap was probably really slow. On the 2nd lap it was now pretty spread out, I focused on getting a good kick in. I started to pick it up and passed Abigail, then focused on Ellie, and in the last 100 meters I was able to outkick her. I got 2nd and it was a new PR! 2:33
The medley was the next event, literally right after the 800. I was doing the 800 in that too. I did a ton of strides, counting it as .5. When I got the baton we were in 2nd, the 1st place team right in front. When I started I immediately passed the girl and then continued and tried to kick again, when I stopped my watch I was at 2:37, but that's with the handoff and at least a second of trying to stop my watch with a baton in my hand, so it was faster than that, I'd guess 2:34-2:35. Our team took first! :)
Then I ran with Sarah for a cool down and found Chris in the school. He joined us. We did .75.
Then I was being incredibly stupid and thought it would be fun to run down the center of 2 hanging nets, bad idea. I slipped and fell, my arm hit the floor pretty hard and it hurt. I was hoping I would be able to just shake it off and be fine, but I soon realized it was much worse. It hurt so bad I wasn't so sure about the 4x400. But I still did it. It probably wasn't as fast as I could've done it without a hurt arm. My mom thinks I sprained it or tore a ligament, which would make sense. It hurts to lift anything, including a super light backpack, put any weight on it, or push anything. :( Our team took 2nd I think.
I did a mile cool down with Sarah to get to 9. |

Today we did our normal warmup of 2 laps, stretching and drills. Then we ran to Liberty. We went the long way to the fountain, then to the start from there. We did 4 strides and started.
We did a 4 mile tempo. The pace was your 800 PR doubled, add 12 seconds (your mile split should be this) then multiplied by 4, that would be your time for the whole tempo. Which meant my pace was 6:18, finish with 25:12. My first mile was 6:04, then 12:30. My third split I didn't know. I stuck with Guillermo, when I felt him slowing down I encouraged him to keep up the pace and I think it made it easier for both of us. When he stopped at the 3 mile it got harder. But I started to pick it up, I felt like I was going to be slow. We should've worked a little harder on the 2nd mile and first part of 3rd. When I had about .5 left Bill joined me (he was telling times to the 2 mile tempo people). He told me my time, 25:50 exact. So I was slow. I felt good today, I feel like it was a good workout. I think this was the workout in a long time that I've felt alright :)
We went back up to the track the long way to get to 10.

It was fun :) When I got home I wasted more time and finally went for my run, but I had to run several million times around my circle because it was dark outside and that was the deal I made with my parents. Yay. I did 3.75 miles before it got dark and then ran around my circle until I got to 6.5, then I couldn't stand it anymore and called it a day.

Today was a speed workout. We did our normal warmup, then mile warmup and mile speed changes. Then we did a 1000, I was supposed to hit 3:15, but I hit 3:37. Then we did 5x500s. The first one felt great, then the 2nd one wasn't as great, and then I just crashed mentally. There's really no excuse for it, I've decided excuses are lame. I just mentally didn't want to do it. Plus I had a lot of crap on my mind, I was stressed about school and certain people weren't helping one bit. It wasn't necassarily that the speed was incredibly difficult, it was my attitude towards it. I think if there wasn't so much stuff going on at the track and it wasn't so windy. Whenever the 300s people started after our first 200 it was hard on me to see people who are normally slower than me in front, the wind was really hard, and so that was where I would crash a lot. I really wish I had just mentally sucked it up and just gotten it over with. I think of my good speed workouts and just wish today was one of them. Today was NOT a good day for me. I don't like mondays. My times went something like 1:35, 1:38, 1:45, 1:45, and didn't catch the last one. Then we did a lap and I thought we were done because I didn't hear anything else about the workout. All I cought was a 1000 and 5x500s. No, we had to do another 1000. I was so mad at certain people, I didn't want to do the speed, and I just was not in the mood for a surprise 1000. I started out pretty fast out of anger, then crashed and practically jogged the rest of it. 4:17 I think. I'm ashamed of myself for breaking down so much. I did 3.25 cool down, the .25 I figure makes up for the little bit of recovery I didn't do. Apparently they did 200s too, I once again had no idea about it. I felt like such an outcast. I will step up my game for the rest of the week though, I do not enjoy feeling like this. |

Today I sort of expected Bill was gonna make me do speed again, I don't know why I didn't bring flats. Although, I expected it to be the same as yesterday. I did the normal warmup, then a mile warmup and a mile speed changes. Then did a lap and started. The workout was 3 sets of 4x400s, first one at 79 and each would get 1 second faster. The first set was 76, 76, 77, 78. Second set was 81, 83, (2 combined) 2:40. Third was 82, 78, 82, 76. I definitely felt the lactic in my legs on the second set. Patrick and Garek were there to help push me, which helped :) Then I think on the third one in the second set Tomy, Chris and John jumped in to help pace me, thanks guys! I just listened to Tomy giving me advice and tried to do it, and when he started to pull away I tried my best to stay with him. Towards the end it got really hard, on some of them I could feel myself slow down on the last 200. Sometimes Tomy would literally push me to keep me going and not crash, which actually helped, thanks! This workout was definitely harder for me than yesterday, but I'm glad I did it, it'll help me prepare for the Davis invite and BYU. I then did a 4 mile cool down with the boys. |

I did 2 miles of warmup including strides and such. I raced the 400 and the 800 in the medley. First was the 400, I was in the 2nd heat. I felt like I went slower than what I did at the Alpha meet, but it was actually faster. I think it was because I knew what the 400 actually felt like in this one and expected it to hurt. I, for some reason, didn't really even feel ready to race. I don't know why. I like being spread out in lanes, then I don't get elbowed and cut off right at the start like in the longer races. :) with 100 to go I could've gone a little harder, I regret not doing so now, and I just let Emmaline go. I shouldn't have, I should've fought. I need to get better at that, it can't happen at region. Oh well, congrats to Emmaline for winning!
Then I ran about .75 including strides. In the medley my team had a good lead. I went out hard in the first lap, I wanted to get 2:30 or under. My first lap was 72, then the 2nd I slowed down and finished with about 2:34. I'm alright with it, I am tired from yesterday and monday, so I think I can go faster than that. In order for our medley team to qualify for state, we need to go 10 seconds faster. I think we could do it, everyone will have to work hard, but we can do it :)
Then I went with the boys and did a fartlek right after eating a ton of cookies. Yay. I actually felt alright :) I kept up with them for the first few, then I fell off but still worked. 3.5 miles there. |

Today we did the normal warmup of 2 laps, stretching and drills. Then we did our bleacher drill things and then did X strides. Then we did 2x300s with the chase thing, mine were a 57 and 52 :) then I did a cool down with Tomy and Chris until our 15 minutes were up and we finished to 5.
I decided to drop the 1600 and anything else I made it in to be fresh for the 3200, so it'll be similar circumstances to Arcadia, a little bit of pressure and fresh legs :) I'm ready for a great race!

Davis Invitational (2 Miles) 00:11:56, Place overall: 13
Today was the Davis Invitational. I went down later because I was racing later in the Invited section. I warmed up with Tomy, Chris, and Bill, then did drills in the school, and then a few strides before the race. They put us on the track a few minutes before the race actually started, leaving me enough time to stress out about all the fast people in my race. The first mile was good, I felt pretty good and it didn't seem like that fast of a pace. I came through at 5:33, then I started thinking way too much about it and it started to go downhill. I didn't think I could come back, I just basically gave up. Even when I heard Bill yelling what I needed to hit to qualify, I thought it was gonna be too hard to hit, so I didn't try as hard as I should have. I am mad about my race, if I could I would do it again. I shouldn't have fallen off of the girls in front, it was a ton harder once I did. My mom told me I shouldn't be so hard on myself, but it's hard not to be. But I did look at results and on the bright side, if I would've been in the other section I would've been third! But that doesn't matter, I still should've done better. Now I just have to focus on region because I don't think I made it into the 3200 for BYU.

Today was speed. We did normal warmup, then a mile warmup and a mile speed changes. Then we did another lap. Our workout was 2 sets of 300, 1000, 600, 300, 300, 300. Right around the middle of it I started to mentally crash, but then I decided to turn it around and tried to turn my thoughts positive. It eventually worked :) I will put down what I remember of my times and look at my watch later to get the rest. My first 300 was a 52, the 1000 was 3:35, then the 600 I didn't catch, the 3 300s I think went 54, 61, 63 or something like that. I didn't quite catch each of those times. Then the 2nd set the first 300 was 57, the 1000 was 3:42, then 600 was 2:19, 300s were 54, 56, 56. It really wasn't a hard workout, I was just in a bad mood.
Then I went on a cool down with Tomy and John, it was 3.5 to get us to 10.

Today we did normal warmup, then went to the hill and did 6 hill strides, then did 4 X strides across the football field. I just focused on form because I know my form sucks.
Then we split up into even smaller groups, I went with the boys. We started with the shriner's run, but then instead of turning up to go on the hill we continued straight and went along there for aways, turning up to go by the cemetery, then continued to where we usually do our 4th hill for the avenues hill run. We started there and did our hill run, this way we cut off the first 3 hills (AKA the easy ones.) It was a bit discouraging to be so much slower than all of them on the hills, I was working hard to stay as close to them as I could. But when I saw Tomy finish each of the hills I'd still only be a little more than halfway up. You guys are so fast! Then we did shriner's run back to the track. Then we did 2 300s, I was first to go on each of them. The first one was 54, second was 55. Then did .75 to get to 11. My legs feel dead now, it's been a long time since they've been this tired. But it's a good tired :) |

In the 400, I was in lane 1 so I focused on everyone else ahead of me, and it was a 67. It was really windy! In the 800, I went out and first lap was 72, then finished with a 2:33. It was windy, so it was tough, but I didn't let that effect me! New PR :) Then I decided to do the 3200 as a bit of cool down! I was originally gonna go slow, but then saw a clearfield girl, and decided it would be fun to win, so I did! It was a 12:45, so really not that fast still. Then I did another mile with Megan to get to 7. |

BYU Invitational 2013 (2 Miles) 00:11:40, Place overall: 28, Place in age division: 4 | | Today was the BYU Invite! It was a long day. I warmed up 2 miles, then went to the bull pen and got my stickers and did drills and strides. I got a terrible start, people were elbowing me like crazy (a bit ironic, the official even said "if you elbow someone, you'll get disqualified.") It bothered me a bit, the pack was going slower than I expected it to, I was expecting the usual 78 first lap deal. It was an 81. I think I panicked a bit when I realized this group was a slow group, I saw one girl ahead of everyone else and she was getting further away from the pack. I worked up to her, then once I caught her I passed her. My plan was to hit my mile right around 5:35, then finish the race. I came through at 5:37 I think it was. I then just tried to work those 2 laps, I was alone and it was a lot harder than at Arcadia having the whole group pull me along. Then when it came to 800, I needed a 2:50 to qualify, I heard Bill yell that, and for some reason I thought I was going at least that pace, if not faster. The one girl passed me and I didn't fight her like I should've, then 2 more came, didn't fight. Then 400 left I needed a 78, 300 a 55, then I thought "just what I did in workouts" but then I thought too much about it and how much running hurts, then with 200 left I thought maybe I could do it, 100 I decided I could, but it was too late, about 50 meters left I watched the 11:30 tick away on the clock. I sort of gave up after that. I'm mad about my race, straight up mad. I wish I could do it over again. Now it's all up to region, which is on wednesday and now I'm freaked out, I was sure I was gonna qualify today. 10 seconds off, why can't I simply accept the pain like I did at Arcadia and fight people? Tomorrow I race the 1600, I'm scared for it, too, I haven't really thought much about it, I've been so focused on the 3200. I did 3 miles cool down. |

BYU Invitational 1600 (1 Miles) 00:05:18, Place overall: 14, Place in age division: 1 | | AM: Today was BYU. I ran 2.75 warmup and drills and strides and such. Today was the 1600! I asked Bill if he thought I could qualify, and he said he thought so, so I went for it. I remembered what happened in the 3200 and was nervous. I didn't want to get boxed in, so I went with 2 girls out pretty fast, when everyone cut in I was 3rd, the second lap I made my way up to the first person, then on the curve debated going around, but sat on her remembering yesterday, then decided to pass on the straight, and then worked that 3rd lap, knowing it was the hardest one. Then I started to pick it up with 500 left, with 400 to go I was at 4 minutes exactly, and that was where I really started to believe that I could qualify, but I didn't kick hard enough, missed it by a stupid second. I started to slow down a bit with about 50 meters left, wish I would've ran to the line. At least now I know what I'm capable of! it was an 11 second PR for me, and I got first in my heat :) I did 5 miles cool down PM: Met Bill, Chris, Megan and Flower at Liberty and we did a wood chip lap warmup, then 3 800s at 2:45-2:50 pace. 800 recovery, I hit 2:51, 2:51, 2:43. Speed today. Normal warmup, then mile warmup and mile speed changes. It was at mile pace, so it was faster for me. Oh the beauty of PRing. The workout was 2 sets of 600, 400, and 2 300s. We rounded my pace down to 5:12 pace. I hit 1:57 (right on), then 76, a bit fast, then 52, way too fast, then 56, still too fast. Then we did a lap between sets, I definitely felt it on this set, hit 2:06, 80, 60, 58. I want to say the wind picked up, it was so strong by the end! The finishing part always felt like someone was pushing me back and I was barely moving, it sucked. Maybe it was just because I'm not used to the new pace. I don't know.
Then I went on a cool down with Garek and Chris for 2 miles. |

My first 800 was on pace for a good time, 2:36ish is what I heard. The 3rd lap wasn't as bad as I thought it was, I was right around 4 minutes. It was the last lap that I had trouble with, I had a hard time getting myself to actually kick. :/ I held off the 5th place person, I wasn't gonna come this far to not make it to state. :) Then I did 2 miles cool down.

AM: 2 mile shakeout PM: Today was the 2nd day of regions. I did 2.5 warmup, then they delayed the 800s because of people taking the stats test, so I sat down and waited until they gave us a 15 minute warning thing, then ran around some more, did more strides and drills. I felt like I warmed up too much, but oh well. Bill said the start was gonna be a dogfight, so I made sure to get out fast. I moved right behind the Bountiful girl, then just hung with her. The first lap was a 70. I started to fall off of her, then 2 people passed me, with 200 to go I realized I was in 4th, the girl behind me was gonna want to outkick me, so I started to kick, and then swung like we practice and outkicked the girl that won the mile yesterday in the last 100 meters. I got 2:25, a new PR! Then I warmed up again for about a half mile. Did some more strides. Next was the 3200. It really just sucked. I wasn't focused at all, I was amazed that I actually qualified for state in the 800, I didn't think I could do it! Then all of a sudden I was racing again, except it felt like jogging. The pace felt so incredibly slow! After 2 laps I decided to push the pace, I wasn't really thinking, but the pace literally felt like I was just running it. Then Abigail fought me for it, pushing me out in lane 2. I should've just tucked behind her and made her do all the work, but somehow I felt like that was cheating. We came through the mile at 5:50, I took it as being way too slow, I'm used to hitting it in 5:30ish. I think I just turned all thoughts negative at that point, I just gave up, I wish I hadn't, I ended up just running the rest of it. Incredibly slow race, I would have thought it was going to be much faster, the winner was around an 11:50, I could've won it if I actually tried! Gah I'm so mad I didn't actually race it like I should have! Anyway, a disappointment that I didn't make it to state in the 3200, I really like the 3200 when I race it hard. It's hard to think that I am faster than some of those girls that made it to state, yet I didn't qualify. At least I'm only a sophomore. But hey, I scored 15 points for our team, and made it to state in 2 events.

Today was state! I warmed up 2.5 miles.
Today was the 1600. I got a terrible start, I was last in my alley, and when I cut in I was way out in lane 2, and then when I cut to lane 1 I was boxed in. I was off just a little bit of what I wanted each lap, but it all adds up. I came through 800 mark with 2:37-2:38 I think, then with a lap to go I was exactly 4 minutes. I didn't kick as hard as I should have either.
It was a good race, but I really wanted to get closer to 5:10. But oh well, I guess there's next year. I went for a cool down, but got lost in an attempt to do a loop, so I just looked for the buildings with a Y on them and followed it, found my way back to the track, but ended up with 4 miles instead of the 2 I was going for. |

I forgot how fast the 800 is, and how fast it's over. Even though it's only been a week. My first lap was on pace for what I wanted, a 68, but then I slowed and didn't go with the group with 200 left like I should have. I got my second best, a second off my PR from last week. But I still wish I had just kicked like I did at region, then I could've gotten a much better time.

3 miles PM: Today we drove to JCC, then we ran along there, but then Bill took us along a different path and showed us a spring! It was so pretty!! We eventually had to stop running and hike because it got so steep, but we made it there eventually. We stopped for a minute at the spring, then we started to hike farther up to make it easier to get down. (the way we came was so steep, it would be scary to go back the same way.) We basically went to the top of the mountain, on top of the ridge, and that was where we started running again. We got to see the pretty view of the valley too! Ah it was so beautiful! We followed the road/path and got on a trail that took us back to the JCC trail, but we were way farther now. We ran JCC back to the car. By the time we were back to JCC trail I was pretty worn out and dehydrated. It was so long, but it was fun!!!

4.25, some of it with Megan PM: Today we went up to the zoo trail, then along there until we got to red butte, then went to popperton and took shriners run back. When we were on the trail I lost contact with Tomy and Chris, then had a really hard time on the hills. I need to work on them. After red butte, I really did bad. The hills were getting to my mind, I've never really been good at them. When I got to popperton, I decided to try and catch Bill and Dakota, I could see them, but they were pretty far ahead. I eventually did catch them when we were in the alley. When we got back to the track, Bill and I did a grass lap. 10 miles.

Some 5k (3.107 Miles) 00:19:54, Place overall: 2, Place in age division: 1
AM: Today we did another 5k! I warmed up with Megan for 1.5. I left my watch on my couch at home, so I wasn't able to get any splits :( I got out good, but then I was worried I got out too fast because I was up there in the top 3. When I got tired I just focused on the guy in front of me and tried to push up to him. When we were coming back from the neighborhood I had closed a lot of the gap. Then came another guy going pretty fast, I tried to match but then gave up after a bit, I shouldn't have, but at least I've learned. Then the guy I was closing the gap on went straight instead of turning where the signs said to turn, I was confused about that but whatever, I followed the second guy who followed the signs. Then not even a minute later that guy turned up the sidewalk instead of going straight, there weren't signs this time just balloons, I slowed down there because I could've sworn we were supposed to go straight and he confused me. Then luckily Bill yelled from behind me to go straight. I knew then that, like I thought before, we were close to the finish so I tried to kick. I got 19:54. I took 2nd to Chris, but those other guys probably would've beat me. But then again I don't know if they were doing the 5k or 10k. First girl to finish though! I have mixed feelings about this race, it was good but not what I wanted. But I prepared less for this race than I did for the one on monday. I didn't get enough sleep, I don't know why but I just couldn't get to sleep last night. And I did literally nothing to prepare last night. So I feel like I could do much better if I would prepare well for races. Plus, I was really tired yesterday from the run. I did 2 miles cool down with the group. PM: I was able to squeeze in 3.5 miles.

| | AM: Today we went to Jeremy Ranch road. We went 5 miles out and back. My first 2 miles were pretty fast, both under 7. After about 3.5 miles I didn't feel so good, so I stopped at the bathroom. Bill and Dakota were ahead when I got out, so I worked up to them. Then I just stuck with them for a while. After about mile 6 I crashed, I don't know why. I think I just lost it mentally thinking that I still had to do 4 more miles. With a mile to go, there was this woman and her kid petting a horse, and it looked like fun, but I kept going even though I really wanted to stop. I feel like my long runs suck now, I wish I was as good at them as last year, but I guess I'll just have to wait a month or so until I get stronger. PM: Went for an easy 3. The first part of it sucked because I had a huge side ache and it wouldn't go away! Eventually I tried going faster and then it went away :) |

My original plan was to do 10 in the morning and 5 at night. That didn't happen. I slept in way too late, and it was already super hot when I woke up. I decided I wasn't going to do 10 miles in that heat. So plan B was to do all 15 at once, later at night when it was cooler. Yeah, that plan failed too. I procrastinated it all day. Then when I finally was ready to go, I heard that Natalie and the BYU girls were at Nat's house! So I went up and talked to them for a bit :) And then I went for my run. I went up 13th to foothill, then went to thunderbird. Then I went along Wasatch until I got to the zoo, down to foothill, then did the VA loop to guardsman. I went along guardsman back to my house and added to 10. It was still pretty hot when I started, but as it went along it got cooler. I felt good, not like I was crashing, up until the 6th or 7th mile where I just started to feel sick to my stomach, maybe not such a good idea to eat a ton right before you run. But it was weird that I felt sick after 6-7 miles... oh well. I didn't do the full 15 I'd planned because of how sick I felt, and it was dark. Now tomorrow's going to suck, I should've done more night runs.

Judgesrun 5k (3.107 Miles) 00:22:09, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 1
I did the Judgesrun 5k today. I warmed up 1.25. At the start I took the lead then realized that was stupid because I didn't know where the beginning went, so I slowed down and let other people in front. It did some weird loop in the Highland parking lot before going around the park. After we got out of the Highland parking lot I knew where we were going. There was the guy in front who had a gap on me, then another guy right behind me. My first mile was 5:50 but it had downhill in it. I could feel myself crashing when we got to the far corner of the park, the guy behind me passed me. I tried to get myself to keep racing, but found it difficult when we were going uphill. Then when I got to the top of the hill another guy passed me, I tried to go with him. I hung on for a bit, but then fell off. Finally another downhill I surged and tried to catch up, but couldn't. When we turned on 15th he had a huge gap on me and I slowed down again. Another guy passed me along 15th. Later I could hear a guy right behind me having a hard time trying to catch me, I tried to hold him off. I was able to up until right at the end where he outkicked me. It was honestly a bad race for me. I didn't like the course. 1 grass lap around sugarhouse and then go along 15th, turn up 17th and finish at the presbyterian church. Uphill finish. Just what I wanted. I felt super lethargic, but I did stay up really late last night because I couldn't sleep. One day when I actually prepare well for a race I will do well. This race at least had a nice breakfast after! I was the first female. Afterward I had a lot of people come up to me and ask if I ran for East :) That was fun, I didn't think people knew who I was. 1.5 cool down.

AM: First official cross country practice! We did about .75 warmup, then we did 10 strides. My hamstring hurt a little on the strides. Then we did the state course as a cool down. Nice and easy. I've had blisters the last couple of days...they hurt so bad on Saturday that I decided not to go for a night run, I thought they might need some rest because they've only been getting worse. But today they were alright, hopefully they'll be gone soon. PM: We ran from Bill's house to Iceberg and then added half mile out half mile back to get to 6. Blisters were hurting the entire way. It was a good run, I just stuck with Dakota and Chris. Then had some shakes!

| | Today we went to Pipeline. I love how pretty it is up there! I felt really tired right off the bat, I don't think I got enough sleep last night. I should start going to bed before midnight. Anyway, after about 1.5 I fell off of the front pack. I just felt so drained of energy. When we got to the 4 mark we turned. I stopped for a bit, I felt a little sick to my stomach too. The way back was terrible, I was going so slow, about 9 minute pace. At that point I was just trying to keep going. I don't know what was with me today, but I gave what I had. My blisters were hurting too, but not as bad as last night, probably because I wore more than 1 pair of socks...they hurt so bad when I woke up! Couldn't go running later tonight because I babysat my neighbors right after work. |

Fill the Ark 5k (3.107 Miles) 00:20:47, Place in age division: 2
AM: I did about 2.25 warmup, then later another .5 right before the start. The first little bit I focused on the girl Bill pointed out and tried to work with her. It was on a hill where she sped up and I had trouble staying with her, and she gapped me. I tried to use the downhill best I could, but it just seemed like she was getting farther and farther away from me. I felt more focused today than I have been for past 5ks, but I guess it wasn't good enough. When other guys started to pass me I tried to go with them, I fought more than I have in the past couple 5ks. But it was a tough course. I didn't crash as bad as I have lately. I was disappointed that I couldn't keep up with that girl, but apparently she runs for the U. So that makes me feel a little better, but not much. After I finished I did about 1.25 cool down before hurrying home so that I could get CPR certified for my job. PM: I did 3.25 on my own after a nice nap, had a headache the whole time though, unfortunately the nap didn't get completely rid of it. I got it right in the middle of the CPR thing. Later PM: Did 3.5 with Megan, then continued on by myself doing circles around my circle. Not smart to run alone at night, it's really creepy. Next week will be a pain, it'll be hard to keep mileage up because I leave for girls camp on wednesday... this'll be fun.

| | Today we went to Lava Hot Springs!! It was so much fun!! Except the run sucked... we did the loop like last year, but this time I actually finished the loop and didn't walk as much. The first couple of miles were good even though the biggest hills were in that little bit. I fell off the front group, I don't know what was with me. When Dakota was passing me he told me to stick with him, so I tried to keep up and eventually was able to. Running with someone always feels better than running alone. When we got back to the park, I was definitely not in the mood to do another lap, the first one was bad enough. We (I mean they) decided to go out 1.75 and come back, I really don't know why I was feeling so bad. I was exhausted and just wanted to be done. What I ended up doing was going out .75 and then came back with Megan, but then we decided to walk after a little while, then just finished to 7.25. Why was I so lethargic? I don't know. Maybe I should try to get more sleep or something. |

So Olivia and I went along Foothill, then changed up the loop we planned to do and went down 1700 S. down to 15th then over to 13th south and up to 17th east and back, then added up Harrison to get to 5. |

| | I knew I wasn't going to get a lot of mileage at Girl's camp. :/ I woke up super early to go for my run. My leader followed me in a car along the road while I ran. She had to be back by 7 to make breakfast, so I had to cut it short. It took longer than I had anticipated to actually start running. So I only got 4.25 in. It was so freaking cold, my legs felt like they were going to fall off!! And I somehow made it so it was all uphill, so it kinda sucked. At least I was satisfied with breakfast, it was one of the only meals that were appealing to me. |

| | So this morning I tried to wake up my leaders, but none of them did. So I went running during a long break we had. I went along the road for 6 miles, then my leader drove me back. It was so windy and hot!! I had purposefully chosen this way because there wasn't as much uphill, but I was running straight into the wind. Just my luck. It was actually a great run, it was really pretty. I went a lot faster than I thought I was going, I hit a 6:07 first mile, and stayed at a fast pace. It was slightly downhill for a while, but I still was surprised, especially with the wind, elevation and heat. I slowed down a bit towards the end, but there was more uphill too. It was the first time in a while that I have felt good about a run :) |

Anyway, when I got home I hung out for a bit, enjoying the air conditioning and finally being able to do whatever I wanted. Then I went for a run because I wanted to, despite the heat. I did 8. I was feeling good until about the 3rd mile. It was then that I decided it was really hot. But I finished it, and ended up doing more than I had planned. I had originally thought I'd go out for 5 or 6, but just kept going. I went over to sugarhouse and then went down to 13th and headed towards Cottonwood Complex, but then I decided to turn up the road the cemetery is on, then did a lap in the cemetery, and went back the cemetery run way. When I got back to sugarhouse I went back along 15th. It was definitely hot outside. I will go for another run later tonight when it's not so hot. |

So I stayed at my grandmas last night, couldn't find a ride, then lost my phone this morning right after I woke up, so I really had no means of communication. I was really disappointed too because today was pipeline and I love pipeline. :( I was going to do about 10, but I had to cut it short because of work. I actually stay active for at least 3 hours at my job, we play games with the kids like capture the flag and tag and such, and we ice skate and swim. So it's not like it's a complete waste of time. And I get paid to do it! I love it there, even though sometimes they are out of control, like today. Anyway, I went from my grandmas house down 13th to 13th and then went to south temple and had planned to do the avenues run without striding up the hills just running, but then I looked at the time and knew there was no way I would be able to, it was farther than I thought to get to south temple. So When I got to 4th avenue I turned and went to T street then back to south temple and went back the same way. I got 7 in. I really am disappointed I couldn't go to pipeline, I'm not a slacker. I really wanted to go.

AM: I didn't realize that 3 days off running in a row could put you so far behind. Worst mistake ever. I went to practice today (finally, it's about time) and I sucked. I couldn't breathe, and I wonder if my asthma is part of it. My legs didn't feel tired, I didn't feel like it hurt to keep up, I just could not breathe. It was at Sugarhouse. We did a grass lap warmup, then went over to the hill by the white trees and did 10 continuous laps, then went over to the state hill and did 4 of those. It should not have been as hard as it was. My legs didn't hurt, again I just couldn't breathe. On the hills I was dying, a whole bunch of people were ahead of me that shouldn't be. I feel so out of shape, can 3 days really do that much damage? It's really discouraging, I want to do well. I just haven't felt the passion for it since track season. maybe the upcoming races will help. PM: I felt so much better! I could actually breathe :) We were going pretty fast right off the bat, started with 7:19 pace, then went sub 7 for the next mile and just above 7 the next one. The first 3 miles I kept up with the boys, then I crashed, but mentally I didn't feel like I was crashing. It felt like a great run, even though I slowed down. But then again it was uphill the way back. We started at Sunnyside and then started out like shriners run but then went to the flagpole and then to the other flagpole at westminister, then went up to 15th back to sunnyside and added to get 6.

My first one was 3:04, then 3:07, 3:12, 3:28. It was so discouraging, I felt like I was going fast, my stride felt good, but then when I thought I was pushing hard enough I wasn't. Then when I tried it again, I knew I needed to go faster, but couldn't. I was so upset, I should be able to hit the right time! Maybe taking those couple days off was part of the problem, but I don't know. Then I cooled down to 8. PM: We went to Liberty. We did 1 lap warmup, then 1 lap fireman. Today was our annual slurpee run! The rules are that you have to top off the cup and drink the whole slurpee, and if you throw up you're disqualified. You can go to the 7/11s in any order. At first I just tried to follow people, but that didn't really work because Tomy and Clayton were going much faster than me. So after the 2nd 7/11 I actually looked at the paper and tried to figure out where to go. I ran with Caden for a while, but after the one on 3rd Ave I was alone. But it was easier to find them when I actually tried than I thought. As you can tell I'm still not too familiar with the city, even though it's probably the easiest city tofind your way around in. The last couple slurpees were really hard to get down, I was starting to feel sick. We had to go to 9 of them, and the cups were bigger this year! When I finally finished I ran to work. That part sucked because it was all uphill. I was late, but they were pretty chill about it. I am still sore and I have blisters that don't feel good at all.

AM: We met at Liberty and did 2 laps then went to the sidewalk we usually come in on and then turned around to make it 4. I felt sluggish and tired. The first couple miles were actually faster than I thought they were, about 7:30s. Then I slowed down to about 8 minute pace for the last 2 miles. Now I'm gonna take a nap before I go to work. PM: First leg of the Tour de Run. It was a 5k. I didn't get much of a warmup in because we couldn't find the place... I got about a half mile in before heading to the line and doing strides. I wasn't ready for the fast pace, I didn't get out as fast as I should have. I wasn't anticipating the competition either. I raced hard, but felt sluggish again and when I tried to go faster I felt like I couldn't. Maybe it was my mind playing with me. It felt fast but I guess it wasn't. The hills killed me, I wish I was better at them and I need to work on it. We did 2 miles cool down.

Tour de Run leg 2 (6.214 Miles) 00:44:10, Place overall: 6
Today was the 2nd and 3rd legs of the Tour de Run. I was able to get in a good 2 mile warmup. I got out good. I stayed at a faster pace knowing that I could handle it because I am used to the longer stuff now. I was doing well until we got to the trail, people started to pass me and I tried to match. Dakota and the girl who won pulled away from me before the trail ended and we got back on the road. After that there was a big hill that killed me, it was hard to keep myself pushing. My quads were burning. That was where a lot of girls made moves around me and I couldn't match them. They pulled away, and then finally when I pulled myself together I focused on the girl in front of me and tried to work my way up to her. I was glad when the downhill came, even though it was steep. I could hear the girl behind me breathing hard and I knew she was working to catch me, so I used the downhill to try to keep my gap on her and push up to that other girl. I was able to hold her off for probably a mile and a half. She was able to gap me but I kept close. I just used the downhill whenever possible. I think I'm getting better at it. With like .75 to go Bill was on his bike telling me to catch the 3 girls in front of me, all within a close distance. I tried but never was able to get myself moving fast enough and hold the pace. It was a good race, and I definitely worked hard. We did another 2 miles cool down before heading over to Ihop for breakfast and Ross, I bought new spikes there!! Then went to the lake and iced, even though it really wasn't that cold. I felt so exhausted. Next was leg 3. It was 4.36 miles, so in between a 5k and 10k. It felt much shorter than a 10k, but it was so stinking hot! The first mile was great, I stayed with Dakota until a girl came up on us and I didn't go with them even though I should have. I felt like I was dying when I got to the loop part, there was absolutely no shade and it was blazing hot, I completely crashed and people started passing me. When I finally got to the water station again this time I accepted the water and took a sip then poured the rest on me. That felt nice, and I was back in the shade, I was able to refocus. The hill honestly wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I was finally closing the gap. With a mile left I started to try to get myself moving, then finally at mile 4 I really started pushing, then Bill was yelling for me to catch the girl in front of me, and I did! It was hard and I felt like I was going to puke, but I'm glad I did. I took 5th overall girl in this leg. My happy bubble popped though when I thought that I was 5th with the combined times of all 3 races, my name on the board for 5th place, when they said that I was 6th and the time between the 2 places was 1.2 seconds, and then they wiped my name off the board. That was disappointing. A mile cool down. My achilles started hurting, I'll ice it tonight. My foot has been hurting the past couple days, but when I run it warms up so it should be fine. I'll ice that too. Wow that was a long entry.

AM: New shoes! I'm trying them out. So I kinda slept in a bit, missed the earlier group getting more mileage in, so I ran to sugarhouse and made it in time for them to come back and the second group to start. We did the cemetery run. I was able to stay with Tomy, Natalie and Clayton, probably because we were going slower than I expected. When we got to the cemetery, Natalie and I stopped and got a drink, then Natalie got a bloody nose! I did a lap, when I got back she was still there, her nose finally stopped bleeding. Her shirt looked like she slaughtered some animal on it! I ran back with Natalie and finished at 8.5. PM: We went to Tanner Park and went to the drinking fountain, then I turned around and finished to 5.

AM: I felt like crap and was really sluggish. We did a little over 2 miles warmup, then strides. On the strides I started to feel even worse. Then we did fartlek. It went 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1. The 1 and 2s had 1 minute off and 3s and 4 had 2 minutes off. After the first 2 I could tell this was not going to be a good workout. I'm really mad that I felt so crappy, but everyone has their off days. A couple of times I felt like I was going to pass out. It was just a really bad morning. I think the only plus with today was that my foot and achilles have stopped hurting. Maybe next time I'll actually eat something before I run. And get more sleep. Nap time here I come. PM: We met at the Jordan River Parkway and went out 2.5 and back. It felt fast and felt like a good run.

AM: Pipeline! I love it up there. I wasn't feeling too great though. I ran with Natalie for a while, but fell back after a couple miles. When I got to the turn around it took a lot of effort for me to start running again. It was a slower run for me, but I was tired and didn't feel good. PM: I had to be somewhere, so I went for my own run. It was really hot and windy so it sucked. 4.5 miles

Draper Days 5k (3.107 Miles) 00:20:29, Place overall: 41, Place in age division: 1
AM: Today was the Draper Days 5k! I warmed up with the girls for about 2.5 miles. I got out good, but maybe a little too fast. When I started to settle into what I thought was a good race pace, people started to pass. I tried to match people whenever they came, but often I would let them go after about 10 seconds. Finally I decided I was going to actually stick with whoever came next, turns out it was Nate. So I stuck with him, and we started to catch up to people. When I started to fall off, Kiley soon started to pass. I matched her the best I could and I was doing well, but then I lost it mentally because I thought we were almost done but from what I could see it just kept going. Turns out we actually were almost done my eyes were playing tricks on me. When I tried to kick I felt like I couldn't, maybe I just wasn't trying hard enough. I got 20:29, so not that great. Afterward I felt really light headed, and I was blocking out what a lot of people were saying, and not really fully understanding people either, it was weird. Sorry guys. Once we started the cool down I felt better. It was at an easy pace, kinda slow but it felt nice. We did about 2.5. When I got home I waited around for an hour, then did 6 more miles. PM: I did 3.5. It was way too hot outside. The arch of my foot has been hurting lately, and it started to hurt much worse than it has been on this run. When I got home I iced and rolled it out, but still hurts. I think I'm just going to take a break from running for a bit, I don't want to push it to a bigger injury, I don't want a repeat of last year.

So today we met at Sugarhouse. We went up 21st to 21st, then over to 13th, up to wasatch and got a drink at the tennis courts/golf course. Then we went along wasatch to thunderbird, went to the drinking fountain on Foothill, then went back to thunderbird and down to 21st, then back to the park. Finished at 7. I liked this run a lot more than the cemetery run, it's been getting old. I was able to stay with Natalie and Tomy, but then again we weren't going too fast. We averaged 8:03. My foot hurt, I think it could be the shoes I've been wearing, it's been in the back of my mind for a couple days now, I just hate to waste money on shoes that don't work. But I'll have my dad take me to the Nike outlet when he gets back from his trip.

Deseret News 10k (6.214 Miles) 00:40:42, Place overall: 129, Place in age division: 8 | | Today was the Deseret News 10k. I did about 1.75 warmup including strides. I got out good, although some guys almost pushed me over right off the bat, I nearly fell. I was in good position, but it kind of scared me to be up so far, I didn't like the thought of crashing and people passing me. But I just tried to keep up the pace. After a little while, around the first mile, people started passing me, and I was doing a good job of matching people. I would just try to match their stride and pace and most of the time it would work. The downhill helped me, I think I'm getting better at downhill running. When we were running along 13th, I crashed huge on the one uphill, I stopped matching people and probably 6 people passed me there. Going down South Temple I pulled myself together and started to go with people again. Mile 3 I remember thinking that I was only halfway done and that brought me down a lot. Took a minute before I tried picking it up once more. Still along South Temple, I started to focus on individuals and work up to them, some would come with me and some wouldn't. After a little while of that I settled again into my previous pace and people started passing again, but this time my legs were so tired, my quads were killing, I didn't match anyone. Not too many people passed me there, but with every person that did, it felt like another weight was put on my shoulders. When we got to the parade route, I saw people sleeping on blankets, and I'll admit I was jealous, I didn't want to finish, I wanted to lie down and take a nap. But I kept going as much as I wanted to stop. The energy from the crowd was great, for like a half mile I loved it and felt good, but then I got back into my setting where people were passing me, people pushing strollers were in front of me, and all of a sudden I didn't want people to look at me. I probably looked like crap but whatever. I got the pity clap, people were passing me again. Occasionally I matched people. When we finally rounded the last corner, I started to pick it up a little bit, but I couldn't help but think about how far away the finish was, so not that great of a kick for me. My time was 40:42, way better than I had expected, with how much I thought I had crashed I remember thinking that I'd be lucky to break 44. Even then I thought of how awful it would be if I did worse today than I did on the flat winter series 10ks, or even the one at the Tour de Run with hills in it. Probably not a great mindset, but for having that bad of an attitude towards this race I am happy with it, even though I know I could have done better. I got 8th in my age group, and as for overall I guessed, I remember it being somewhere around 129ish. I definitely think my arch problem was my shoes, I ran everything today in flats and it didn't hurt that bad. I barely noticed it. It's amazing how much shoes can affect you. Did a lap cool down with Stormy and Eden, they seemed a bit reluctant but I'm glad they came. It felt nice after stiffening up. Later ran through the park with Emily and Bill on his bike. |

| | I went to bed really late last night due to a family thing, so i was super tired and totally slept in way too long, and when I finally woke up I had to get ready for work because that's how late in the day it already was. I felt like such a normal kid, with no running in the morning. Today I decided that I wanted to go up in the Avenues, I don't really know why. So I did our Avenues run, but I just ran the hills, not stride up them like we normally do. The hills were bigger than I thought, it's been a while since I've done that run. I took Shriners way back like we normally do. I stopped at the drinking fountain on 11th because it was HOT. When I was coming back to Alta, I noticed that the drinking fountain was back in place, so I checked it out, and to my surprise it was on!!! Going in the U campus I had a blonde moment, I thought, "where are all the people?" Then I remembered it was summer and most people go home. Also there is a lot of construction on the U campus, more than there was during track season. When I got to sunnyside I decided that I didn't want to be done so soon, a little odd but I felt good. So I went up to the zoo and took wasatch to 13th and went back home. It was a slower run, but I am so sore from yesterday and it was kind of hilly too. Now that I've stiffened up, I can barely move. If I hurt this bad, I can't imagine how the half marathon and marathoners are feeling. |

It got so hot so fast, my original plan to go for a 10 miler at least this morning was ruined. I stopped at 4, I'll go again tonight, it'll have to be a really long run. PM: Oh. My. Gosh. Worst cramp of my life. Finally I decided it wasn't going away and just went running anyway, and it sucked. Longest 3 miles ever. Oh yeah, forgot to mention that I'm completely drained from work today. We took a field trip and the kids were out of control, might I say it was right in the middle of the day where it was hottest. AM: Today was a good run, for the first 4 miles I felt great, we were going 7:40s and it didn't feel that fast. When we were a little ways in the cemetery I the pace started to feel faster, I backed off to 7:55 pace, then tried to catch Natalie and Tomy and picked it back up to 7:35-7:40, but it seemed like they were just picking it up. The last mile felt like death, I backed off to 8:15. Ankle started to bother me towards the end. PM: Met at Liberty and did 3 laps.

AM: Wheeler Farm. Nat and I were late (it was my fault, sorry!) so we got in about .9 of warmup including strides. We ran over to the start, and then did 400, three 800s, and a 400. I was supposed to hit 90s for the 400s and 3:00 for the 800s, which didn't seem that bad thinking back to track season, but it actually felt a lot harder than it should have. Natalie had the same pace so I tried to stick with her. My first 400 was 85, then the 800s were 2:53, 2:56, 2:56. The last 400 was a 92 I think, we went farther than we were supposed to. Overall, I did much better than the last time we came here. I cooled down with Natalie until we got to 8. PM: We met at sunnyside and did an easy 4, going around the neighborhood to people's house intending to pick them up and join us on our run, but only managed to get a friendly 7 or 8 year old to come with us for about a block or 2.

Today we met at the zoo trail. We went out to the fence at red butte and back. The first mile was a stunning 10 minute pace because that's how we roll. Just kidding. As soon as I was able to get around people I ran with the boys and picked it up. After the big hill we all spread out a ton, and I was with Garek and Nate. I tried to stick with them for as long as I could, we now picked it up to 6:40 pace. When we got to the drinking fountain we stopped for a bit then kept going, this part was probably the hardest part for me, I don't like going all the way up to the fence. On the way back I passed Garek and Nate, but now I was on my own because only Tomy and Chris were ahead. I accidentally went the wrong way, I think it was a lot shorter. The way back was tough for me, I had a hard time getting myself moving again. When I got back, I was only at 6, so yeah I definitely went the wrong way. I went up Emigration canyon for a mile and came back to get to 8. Those last 2 miles were pretty slow because I was tired. My quads were sore when I woke up today, so they were burning through this whole run.
PM:

AM: Today was the bike and run! We did it with the Brighton team. My partner was Eleanor, I started running first and she biked first. I started out good, hit 6:34 first mile. The next 2 miles were under 7 as well. Switching from biking to running felt really weird. The slowest I went (running, I didn't get my biking times) was a 7:23 mile, which was my last one. Overall it was a good run, and it was fun! We were the first girls team to finish, second to our guys team, which was fun too :) Then did 2 more miles with Chris, Eleanor and Garek. Eleanor and I took an ice bath in the river afterward, it was cold and the leeches were creepy. PM: I did a 6.25 mile loop up to the drinking fountain on foothill and then come back to thunderbird and wasatch then go to the drinking fountain by the tennis courts and back down 13th to my house. I did it as a nice, relaxed run. My quads are finally starting to feel better, I think the ice bath in the river helped, but my calves are sore now. Yay.

| | AM: We went up to Jeremy Ranch road today, I didn't realize it was going to be with a bunch of fast guys from the blog, I just assumed it would be our little East group. Nope. It intimidated me a bit, I knew right off the bat I was going to be one of the slower runners. I hung on for about 3.25 and felt great, and relaxed too, didn't feel fast even though we were going close to 7:00 pace. Then we hit a hill and I fell back. After that I tried for a while to get myself back up to the front group but couldn't. When I got to the 5 mile mark I turned around thinking I was just going to do 10, but then Bill turned me around saying that I had to do 15. Now that I think of it he did say to both Chris and I in the car that he wanted us to do 15, but somehow I thought he was just talking to Chris when he said that.. Weird. Anyway, I ran with Bill (and another guy for a bit) until I got to the road where I was at 7.5 and turned around. The way back wasn't much fun. I did end up walking a few hills, of course it seemed like whenever I did Bill and/or Dakota would drive by. Yay for that. My legs felt really heavy after about 8.5. When I was at around 12.5 Bill ran with me again, at the time I didn't like it too much because it meant no more walking whatsoever, but it was nice to have someone there to keep me going. This felt like the longest run ever. I think this is my second 15 miler... 15 is the farthest I have gone all at once. It was so hot too, I got really dehydrated. I feel better now though. Now I just have tired legs. PM: I did 3.25 around my neighborhood. It felt way short compared to this mornings run :) |

| | AM: It's lovely hill week this week. Met at Sugarhouse and did a grass lap warmup, then did the very first hill at state 3 times up, 3 times down (except it was a little different down than up, we followed the state course for after the state hill). Then we went over to poker hill and did 4 of those, then back over to the state hill and did 4 of those. I feel like I'm getting better at hills. I'm still not great, but at least I'm improving. The state hill was the hardest one for me, I was tired. Once were done with that we did another grass lap and added about 1.5 after that to get to 10. I got sick over the weekend, some sort of cold, and it sucks. Hopefully it goes away soon.
PM: we met at Sunnyside and went to the gully and did 3.5 laps, came out the top and added once we got back to Sunnyside to get to 4. |

| | AM: Puke hill has its name for a reason. I felt so freaking exhausted and lethargic, I was going so slow. I went out to 6. I thought that there wasn't going to be many hills after puke hill, but I was wrong. On all the hills I totally crashed. On the way back I walked way more than I should have. If I would've given in to my desire to lay in the dirt, there would've been no way I could get up because I was honestly so exhausted. I couldn't help but wonder what was wrong with me, even though it was super hilly I should not have felt so terrible. It wasn't quite like last saturday where I was dehydrated and tired, I just felt like the heaviest person in the world and was so lethargic. Not a great start to my day. When I got home I immediately grabbed my wallet and walked to Harmons and bought a protein shake, as well as gelato, but I was craving it :)Â

| | AM: My plan to get more sleep failed, as usual. We went to JCC today, it honestly didn't feel that hard, maybe because it was after what we've done earlier this week, plus it was cooler. I felt a little bit better today, not quite as exhausted. I read in some articles that colds can make you more fatigued, and they suggest you avoid over strenuous activities... yeah that's not happening. Anyway, I went out 4, and we did the usual hill 10 times. Man it was long and steep. Then finished back to 11, and got some amazing breakfast.
PM: Ran to Liberty, but when no one was there I stretched for a while hoping that maybe everyone would show up, and when I was about to leave I saw Stormy and Eden! We did a lap, then when we finished Bill showed up. So then we did 2 laps, then .25 out and back to make it an even 5, but the 1.75 to get here puts me at 6.75. |

| | Today we went to Cottonwood Complex. We did the big loop, then went over to the start of region course and did 10 strides. Then over to Bessie and did that a couple times all the way up to the fence, then recover to double trunk tree and fast again to the bottom. Then we went over to the hill by the triple trunk tree and apple tree, then to Miranda and did that one way and back, then over to roller coaster one way and back. Then Bessie full loop twice. And that concludes hill week. My arch hurt when we started strides, I ignored it because lately it's been warming up after a while and hasn't bothered me much, but it never went away. When we were doing Bessie the first time it still hurt, but when I stopped it would start hurting even more. Apple tree hill still bugged me but was manageable, then roller coaster was where I really started to feel it. The last two Bessie hills it was hurting a ton, when we stopped at the drinking fountain and started again to do a little cool down I honestly couldn't walk on it, it hurt so bad! I limped all the way back to the cars and felt like a loser not doing the cool down. Stupid plantar fasciitis. I'm seriously hoping I don't have a repeat of last year. |

I went for a bike ride this morning, the cemetery run. When I got back to sugarhouse I decided to do a road lap. The hills were pretty hard to bike up, and I was actually tired when I got back home with the uphill that way. It was hot outside and I don't have the greatest bike in the world, a beach cruiser. It was disappointing to get off my bike and realize once more that I can't walk properly. At least I found something that doesn't hurt my foot. |

Then we did strides and my foot hurt a ton on those. Next was a mile. I was supposed to hit 6:30 since my foot was hurting, I hit 7:10. Right when we started I could barely move it, it hurt so bad, but it warmed up, once again, a little bit into it. It still hurt a ton, but it was at least manageable to run through. I didn't feel winded much, but my foot really set me back. When I stopped it was so painful to start moving again, I had to quit the workout. Bill said to try barefoot running for a bit, still was super painful. I hope it'll feel better soon. |

| | I biked today for about 30 minutes going up 13th to Wasatch then turned around at thunderbird. We had our BBQ and Alumni fun run thing at sugarhouse. I did 1.25 warmup. My foot wasn't hurting too bad when we started, so I decided to run it. I started out okay, I felt a little out of shape, but halfway through my foot started to really hurt again, I ran through it but it hurt. At least I was able to run it this year, last year I was injured too and couldn't run it. I was 2nd on the girls side, got 18:27, so not that fast (it was 2.5 miles.) Hopefully this plantar fasciitis will go away soon. Hurt too much to do a cool down. Took 10 steps and knew it wasn't happening. But good news is I'm a captain again, this time with Stormy!! |

| | Today my foot was hurting still, so Bill told me to go over to the dog park (we met at the zoo trail) and do core. So I did. Crunches, planks, arm swings, push ups, wall sits, squats, modified version of lunges, all sorts of fun stuff. |

| | After work I went back to the pool and did 10 minute warmup, 10x2 minute on 1 minute off, 15 minute cool down. Definitely have not missed pool running. I am actually pretty sore from core yesterday, maybe that's an indication that I should be doing core everyday.... :O I saw something interesting on the way home, some guy didn't read the signs at Harmons saying not to take the carts past the yellow line, a cover went over the wheel of his cart and he was trying to drag it across the street. Apparently those things do work. |

| | 10 minute warm up, then a ladder of 1 on 1 off, 2 on 1 off, 3 on 2 off, 4 on 2 off, 5 on 3 off and then back down. On the cool down I only got a little under 2 minutes in when they kicked me out of the pool because they were closing. But I did bike for like 5 minutes, going home like usual, until my tire decided to go completely flat. Nothings gone right for me today. Some girl in the lane next to me asked me what I was doing, like was I running but not touching the bottom? Yeah pretty much what pool running is. It must look weird. I've only pool run for 2 days and I'm already sick of it. |

| | Today I went to the meet to cheer everyone on, everyone did great!!! Wish I could have raced it but oh well. Once I got home from school shopping I went to Steiner and did 30 minutes of pool running until they kicked me out again, I guess on weekends they close early. Funny how I work there and I didn't know when they close. But my shift wasn't at night and I never bothered to ask. Anyway, after that I went up to the elliptical bike and did that for 25 minutes, then decided my foot felt good enough to do the other elliptical, so I did that for 10 minutes until that part closed. This has by far been the worst week ever. |

| | Today I tried out running again. We did a lap warmup then strides by the drinking fountain. My foot was still hurting. Bill told me not to do the speed part because it was hurting. So I timed everyone and ran back and forth from the start line to the mile mark or the 800. Afterward we had a Dutch oven breakfast! When I got home my mom took me to Steiner and I did another pool run. 10 minutes warmup, then 15 x 1 minute on 1 minute off, then 10 minute cool down. Went up to the treadmill and elliptical area and got on he elliptical for a little over 35 minutes to get the distance thing at 3.00. Then went to the doctor, he said it was most likely plantar fasciitis like Bill said, gave me a prescription for physical therapy and basically said to do what I've been doing. Also got my physical (haha it's about time) and ferritin levels tested, as well as some shots that I didn't want but apparently needed to get. |

It was faster than I was expecting, 7:45 pace which isn't bad. I was expecting above 8 for sure. We did hill strides at a nameless hill. Then we did 15 minutes of fireman and ran back to the track. |

| | Today my family participated in the Color run 5k! It was way fun! I just walked most of it with my cousin because they didn't time it or anything it was just for fun. They threw corn starch at us every kilometer, it had a specific color they threw each time. So first it was purple, then yellow, orange, pink, then blue. They also had water with green in it that they sprayed every so often. At the end they had the "color festival" where everyone threw the color in the packets we got from registering in to the air. Pretty cool and it was one of the funnest races I have ever done. Also it was the first race I have practically walked the whole thing... Afterward I decided to rest my foot.

| | We did the shriners run today, it felt like we were going pretty fast the first couple miles. Then at the top of the hill I got a drink and a huge sideache so I stopped for a minute. After I had run for a few minutes my right leg was getting a lot tighter than my left, so I stopped a minute and stretched it, then started again, same thing, so I switched sides of the road and it seemed to help. On the way back I caught up to someone new and we started talking and it distracted me for the rest of the run, which was nice :)

Today was our first Cross Country morning practice! Ah I miss running early in the mornings, before the sun is up. We did VA loop to 13th then back up to the track, Which felt really fast, then did 8 hill strides which I felt crappy on, those 2 pieces of toast I ate right before wasn't such a good idea.
PM:
I was dreading the speed workout all day, I had heard about it yesterday and was secretly hoping Bill had changed his mind and we were just going to do a run. I should have known better. We did a mile warmup and mile speed changes. The workout was 3x1 mile repeats with 2 laps recovery in between. Eleanor and I were supposed to hit 6:10. We hit 6:00 the first one, didn't even feel like I was pushing, I just wanted to hit the time. The second one hurt, 3:04, and the third I felt the lactic and probably crashed mentally. When Caden and Eleanor pulled away it was 10 times harder. It was a 6:20. I guess for not doing much speed lately it was alright. After the last one I did a lap recovery, then the girls did 2 grass laps cool down. My foot didn't hurt at all while doing it, just when I stopped to recover and right when we started. It felt good to finally be able to push myself. I feel like I'm finally coming back.

Morning practice! We warmed up to Sunnyside and did a lap then back to the track. We did our chase 200/400 workout. I partnered up with Eleanor. I started with a 400. I didn't catch my first time, but the second and third ones were 75, 76. So I was doing better than I thought. I'm still pretty dang sore.
PM:
We did our 6 bleacher laps, then went for a run. We went up to the zoo, then along Wasatch to 13th and down to 19th then back to Sunnyside and back to the track. It was SO HOT. I ran with Emily, and it wasn't that the pace felt fast I just was so exhausted. My quads are now feeling it. I really need to get a new Garmin. I'll get one soon.

American Fork Grass Relays (2 Miles) 00:13:36 | | Today was my first cross country race! I was happy to race again, except this race was different from what we normally do. It was a 1 mile loop that we had to do 2 times, and it was a relay. And you had to jump over hay ever so often, started out with 1 row across the course, then 2, then like 3 I think, and then the last one had a ton of them. I was the 2nd runner. It was hard for me because there weren't many people around me, just a few I could see who had a gap on our team in front of me, and a few in back too. But I didn't like being alone, it made it a lot harder for me to push. I found myself just sort of running it a lot, then remember it was a race and start trying to push again. My first mile I was focused, but it wasn't as fast as I wanted it, a 6:21. I passed people like I was supposed to, but then in the 2nd mile I started to just run it and noticed I wasn't passing anymore, and it was hard to start pushing again. I thought the hay was a fun idea, but honestly I didn't like it very much in the middle of a race, I thought I was gonna biff it a couple times. I feel like I didn't have the focus or competition I needed, but hopefully next race will be good. |

I ran up to 19th then to 21st and down to sugarhouse, then did the cemetery run, but didn't do a lap in the cemetery because I decided it was too hot. I got a drink and started again, then cut across sugarhouse and went back along 15th to my house. Right when I got back my dad came home and gave me my new shoes :) So tomorrow I will finally run in a new pair.

We went to sugarhouse via 15th and did the white tree loops 10 continuous times, then went around sugarhouse and back. Today was not a good day for me, everything about it just seemed wrong. I had a huge sideache going there and when we stopped I tried to blow it out like Bill taught me forever ago, I think it worked. On the hills I was doing good the first few but then crashed, and then felt like I couldn't breathe, I was breathing really fast. On the cool down I just took it a little easier because of it.

Murray Invitational 2013 (3.107 Miles) 00:20:45 | | Today was the Murray invitational. I didn't do as well as I wanted to. I had a hard time getting myself to push. I never have done very well with Cross Country, last year being injured and all, and I wasn't good my Freshman year, but I still have high hopes for this season. I was just disappointed with how I raced and my time and pretty much everything about it.
i ran with the rookie girls for about a half mile to the bathrooms, then talked to some of the U girls after they finished their races, or at least the ones I knew :) they're nice
So we restarted, which was good because the second time I got out better. I feel like I treated the start of this race like the start of a 1600, I felt like I was going fast then when the group naturally slowed down it felt slower than it should've been but then I reminded myself this was a 5k not a 1600m run. I did well the first mile, didn't catch my time because my watch didn't start (I got a new garmin and am still figuring things out about it) but it felt fast. Then going up snake it came faster than I expected and it was hard for me to work up, then I was tired for the soccer field and had a hard time getting myself to race after that. The people started passing and everything went downhill. I tried to match people but it was hard. With 800 left I knew I needed to pick it up but couldn't get myself to. It was a crappy race, but I guess I'll just have to learn from it and move on. I find I've been beating myself up lately, I haven't felt the joy running has given me in the past for a while now. I think having a good race and doing well in workouts might help, but that means I'll have to start working harder. It's been a rough start to my season.

On the way to laird to meet up with the girls for a run I tripped on a rock somehow and now my knees and hands are stinging. Only Eleanor and the Randalls showed up, so we did a 3 mile loop then I added with Eleanor back to 9th and she had to go home, so I ran a little longer then went home to get a drink, then decided to do my longer run later tonight because it was getting hot.
PM:
Well, running later was both good and bad. First off, it was a lot cooler and almost the perfect temperature. However, it was raining. Oh well. I ran up to foothill over to thunderbird and then went along wasatch over by the zoo. By now the wind had picked up. Then I turned right on foothill and took it to guardsman where I started the Shriners run. I stopped at the drinking fountain and got a quick drink, then went down the street that goes right by Shriners hospital down. It turned into some University street right above 13th and I took it all the way to the tracks by the U where it ended on 5th south so I went up to guardsman and took Military home. Added to 12.25, l averaged 8:27 with my fastest mile being 7:12 which seems alright to me because of the wind, rain and hills.

The first and second felt great, third I lost focus because I was trying not to laugh at something that I'm pretty sure no one else found funny, the fourth one was just hard, fifth Bill told me to hold off the boys that were closing in on me so I tried, they caught me at the end but hey I worked hard, and sixth did the same thing. BYU Autumn Classic (3.19 Miles) 00:20:12, Place overall: 26 | | Today was the BYU Autumn Classic! I did a half mile warmup showing the freshmen girls where the course goes. Later when it was actually time for me to warmup, I warmed up with the varsity girls.
So I tried to turn off GPS in my garmin like we're supposed to, but I guess I'm still not a master of working it because it didn't turn off... Oh well. Before the race I honestly didn't feel ready, I didn't feel like I normally do before good races.
I had 2 goals for today, top 30 and break 19:50. First mile felt great, I didn't even feel like I was pushing that hard. I was up in the front pack. The only thing i didn't like about it was i got boxed in a ton and literally came to a stop at least twice going around the turns. The girl next to me made me crazy because she kept cutting in front of me on those curves, i almost tripped once when she spiked me. First mile was 5:48, which surprised me. The second mile got harder. I saw Megan from bountiful and tried to stick with her. Then at one point I let her go, and I crashed pretty bad. I should've stayed with her, it would have been easier if I could've just gotten over that barrier. Second mile was 6:28, third 6:56. So I crashed pretty bad. On the third mile people were passing me and I tried to match but had a hard time. Candas passed me towards the end and I worked with her for a while, then tried to pass her back when we were close to the finish. I worked hard at the finish, but 3 people passed me in the last 100 meters. There are a lot of things I wish I had done differently, but at least I'm coming back and heading in the right direction. I did get in the top 30, I may have broken 19:50 3 mile split was about a 19:14, so maybe. The course was long.
oh yeah, I forgot to mention that it was super muddy and humid, so that sucked.
i did 3.25 cool down, some with varsity girls, some with varsity boys, some by myself.

| | Mile warmup mile speed changes. The workout was 1600, 800, 400, 400, 800, 1600. My pace was supposed to be 5:50-5:55. This was the kind of workout where Bill doesn't tell us what the whole workout is, just what the next one is. You ask how many we're doing and all he'll say is till we're done. In some ways I like it this way, in some ways I don't.
Anyway, first 1600 didn't feel too hard, but I knew what kind of workout this was going to end up being, and knew it was gonna get harder, so I didn't push it. Just focused on hitting the pace. Got 5:53, right on pace. 800 was 2:54. 400 was an 85. Then on the second 400 the team decided to work harder, which is good I guess, but it threw me off. Hit 81. I went with them, but soon backed off a little because it felt too fast, and I was right. Then we started going back up, and once again, not knowing ahead what it was, it became mentally tough right here because I now knew what the rest of the workout was. Stupid brain. Haha just kidding. Here is where I started to slip, hit 2:57. Mentally it got really tough right here, I wasn't feeling very good (that would be the cheetos from pre-calc) and felt sluggish. This one wasn't nearly as easy as the first. Each lap just got slower, ended up with a 6:22? Something like that. Dang I really wish it would've been faster. Then we did 4x200s, just to open up stride. On the last one I sorta dogged it and got 43, Bill made me do another one because he wanted me to actually finish the workout. :/
2 grass laps cool down. Now my legs are feeling it. I wish I would've been able to get myself up this morning to go for a run, maybe I would've done better, but the thought of another hour of sleep won. I'm so glad they decided to do late starts every Monday.

The course was kind of crazy, Megan had to keep Eleanor and I going the right way. I had no idea where we were supposed to go, but luckily Megan had memorized it :) We kind of just ran it, Bill said to only go as fast as Megan goes. So we did. I didn't know where the 800 was, which was where we were supposed to start racing, so the finish came before I thought. I got third. :/

I already had the negative attitude that I wasn't fast enough to run with the fast people, so I was placed in a lower competition race, and really just wasn't in the best racing mode.
I started fast and led for the first mile because I had thought that I could win the race since this was the number 2 people. Yeah, big mistake. I should start being more even with everything, I usually feel better when I do it that way. I hit the first mile in right around 6, I think it might've been a little under. Which seemed good to me because of the course. Then I started to crash, and then a girl passed me and I tried to go with her but couldn't. Then right around the 2 mile mark the next person passed me, I fought her for a while, she gapped me on Miranda and I worked to close the gap up until the Apple tree hill, where she extended the gap and then I couldn't catch her. On Bessie Bill said 4th and 5th were close and I needed to start kicking, and so I did, I was able to hold them off. I actually don't know how far behind they were, but oh well. It was way hot by the time my race started, and literally right before it started it got way windy. Cooled down about .75
My time was really slow and I'm disappointed about it. And 3rd of the 2nd fastest people doesn't make me happy either. Lately running just doesn't have the spark it used to, now that I feel like I'm getting worse instead of better. Really I'm just disappointed that for the second year in a row I worked really hard during the summer and can't do well during the season. Maybe I just suck at cross country races and am better at track ones. I don't know but I'm really struggling to find the joy it used to bring me.

| | Today was a speed workout, but it was slightly different. We did 2 grass laps warmup, then did 5 strides. Then we did these hill things on the soccer field hill that actually were kinda hard, I didn't think they would be but they were. We zig-zagged along it. Then we did a 200, 300, 400. I didn't catch my 200 or 300 times, I didn't want to restart my garmin today, cause I wasn't really sure what we were doing. My 400 was an 81. By then I was tired and felt sluggish as I usually do on Mondays. Then we ran up to the white tree at sunnyside and did 4x800s. They went 2:45, 2:48, 2:51, 2:47. Then went back down to the track and did a 400, 300, 200. 400 was a 78, 300 was 52, and didn't catch 200 but this one felt way faster than the first one. Then did 4 asphalt hills and 2 grass laps cool down, then I finished to 9.

For morning practice we did the running of the leapards 5k backwards into this is the place, where we got back onto sunnyside and went straight back to the track. We picked it up on the way back to a 6:27. Then we did 2 progressive 300s, which got us to 5.75. Felt like a good run.
PM:
We did a mile warmup, then 6 laps of Js, I think just because it was so windy. I have never done Js before, and they were kind of wierd. I kept starting to speed up at the 100 mark out of habit, then remembered that I wasn't supposed to. Wierd. Then did 2 grass laps cool down.

East, Bountiful, Judge, WX @ Cottonwood Complex (2.9 Miles) 00:18:49, Place overall: 2 | | Did a little over a mile warmup because when we got there it was really close to our race
The race honestly didn't even feel hard and it was such a breeze. The start of the race sucked, lost like 3 seconds at least because they blew a whistle instead of a gun and created lots of confusion, and I also got spiked BEFORE the race doing the cheer so that was fun (haha). I felt great! I had decided that I was going to try for even splits, I didn't want to go out too hard. First mile was around a 6:07. I was relaxed and didn't feel like I was working super hard. I decided just to keep even and not push super hard. at the 2 mile I still felt really good, which was a huge change from recent races. I lead for almost the whole race. In the last little bit Eleanor unfortunately outkicked me, but I was still happy with my time. I honestly still don't believe it, I haven't PR'd once this season. And there wasn't even much competition, I mean I'm sure other teams weren't actually racing it like we were, but even so it felt good to be up there. It gave me more confidence and now I'm excited to race again!

Nebo Invite (3 Miles) 00:19:23, Place overall: 41 | | Today was the Nebo invite. It was so cold! By the time varsity races started it had warmed up a little, but it was still cold enough for me to freeze. I did about 1.5 warmup.
I went out too fast again. I didn't relax like I should've. It was a crappy race, but at least my time is coming down. This race felt like I was working the whole time, but it was slow. Granted this race was the full 3 and it was super muddy and cold, but I still wanted to break 19.

| | Yay for Utah weather. It's warming up again :) Today I went for my own run. I went up to Foothill, then over to thunderbird, up to wasatch and along there past the zoo. Then turned down sunnyside to Foothill, then along Foothill to guardsman and went through sunnyside park to get a drink, but found the drinking fountain tipped on its side and water spraying out of the bottom...so I found another drinking fountain. Then went back up to Foothill and along there until 13th and went back home and added to 10.25. Averaged 8:10. I remember when it was hard for me to do that, and now it's me relaxing :)

Finally woke myself up early enough to do a run. 3.25
PM:
Speed today. 2 grass laps warmup, then 5 hills on the K hill (up, across, down) then two 200s to open up stride. Then we did a 400 (my split 76-77), 1600 (6:15, man I slowed down a lot), then up to Sunnyside where we did four 800s (2:51, 2:52, 2:57?, 3:10. The last one I obviously didn't do well. I struggled mentally through this part.) then ran back down to the track. The wind had now picked up a lot. Literally right before we did the next 1600, I got a bloody nose. Bill made me do the 1600 anyway, so I just ran with my bloody tissue in hand. 6:30ish. Then i did a 400 alone because I missed when they started because my nose still hadnt stopped bleeding. It was a 92, then two 200s alone because I was now off of everyone else (both 39). Then ran to the asphalt hill and did 5 of those. Hills honestly don't feel as bad to me anymore, I kinda like them 🙊 I was dehydrated today, I forgot a water bottle. So yeah, that sucked.

flagpole run, to westminister then presidents circle and Shriners run back. We were going 7:20s to westminister until they took off, I backed off to 7:51. My legs are tired from yesterday. Then did 2 progressive 300s.
PM:
2 grass laps warmup, then some new bleacher laps. Then did 6 Js, the last 3 all out. Recovered for 200 after each one, my recovery was very slow because Bill wanted us girls varsity to stay as a group. Then we did 2 grass laps cool down.
I think that I just haven't enjoyed running as much lately because I have never been top girl and I've worked hard 2 years now and I had expected this year to finally be my year, but it hasn't worked out that way. I admit I was and still am upset about it, but I've decided that as long as I'm doing my best every day it's all that matters. Wow now I sound like Bill.

East, Cyprus, Kearns @ Clearfield (2.97 Miles) 00:19:04, Place overall: 2 | | Today was the quad meet at clearfield. We warmed up 1.5 figuring out the course. Then we changed into flats and went to the start.
The start was really confusing, it was the one place I didn't know where to go. We were following the arrows and path of flags, but then it just disappeared once we got to the parking lot, I had no idea where we were supposed to go, I only knew the basics. We slowed down a lot and started going the complete wrong direction until another girl corrected us and we saw the cone that was hidden. Then it happened again. But this one we corrected ourselves before we were too far off course. Anyway, I could tell this race was not going how I planned, it felt a lot faster than we should have been going. First mile was 6:03 (including the little mess up), then second 6:38, last .96 was 6:28, so pretty even last 2 miles, but slow. I really wish I could have done better, but then again I did feel like I was relaxing in the middle, I felt like I could have picked it up more last mile at least. It's just getting myself to kick. My kick was pretty weak, I could've pushed harder. Hopefully I'll be able to do everything right at Park City on friday. Kind of a sucky race.
Then for cool down I wasn't even thinking and did mile warmup, mile speed changes, mile cool down instead of just a mile speed changes and mile cool down. :O

Park City Invite (3 Miles) 00:19:09 | | Today was the Park City race. I warned up about 1.5.
I didn't really get out well. I got trapped behind girls going way slower than I wanted. When I got to the first hill I passed a lot, which was nice :) then we went along the loop and I wasn't expecting the rolly hills. The uphills in that second mile felt hard for some reason. Then I used the downhill and was able to power up the last few hills, I tried to pick it up again on the last mile. I used the last downhill the best I could but found myself struggling, when I tried to get myself to kick I couldn't, Bill yelled 300 left and I just could not pick it up. Maybe it had to do with the cold (there was snow on the ground, which makes me sad, I love summer) :( I got passed in the last 10 meters by two girls. And to make matters worse, my time was slower than Wednesday. Granted there were hills and it was cold, but I'm tired of excuses, I just want faster times.
Did a 2 mile cool down reflecting on my race, I felt like I could've worked harder the second mile but I didn't want to go too hard and have the last mile be slow. But now I know for region. Region is on Friday and I'm freaking out... I don't feel ready. After my sad cool down I strangely was in a better mood, I was really upset after my race. Then we went to dinner, and five years later am typing this. School felt like 3 days ago, but it was 9 hours ago.

Eleanor and I ran together, we stayed sub-7:20 for the first 8 miles, then in the 9th I twisted my ankle and stopped for a minute, and then went slower at around 8:00 pace for the last 2 miles. It feels better now, so that's good. It was a good run.

Speed today. 2 grass laps, then asphalt hills. Then did our workout, which was 2x1000s at the track, then up to sunnyside and do 2x800s, then back down to the track, 2x1000s, more asphalt hills. I was supposed to hit 6:00 pace for all of this, so 3:45 for the 1000s and 3:00 for the 800s. I hit the first one in 3:34, then 3:38. Then the 800s were 2:41 and 2:37. Then 1000s were 3:36 and 3:41. I was feeling great, oddly. It didn't seem to me to be too tough of a workout :)

| | 2 grass laps warmup, then did some drills. Then we did a 200 to open up stride, then a 400, 200, 200, 400, 200. My times were 37, 76, 36, 35, 74, 36. Then 2 grass laps cool down. You know, I think I've been getting myself down because I am not the top girl on the team like I wanted, but I've just been trying to focus on what I'm doing and not what the other girls are doing and have found that I am doing better. My times are much better than they were last year, it was just that I didn't feel good about them because of where I was placing on the team. But I've realized that as long as I'm trying my best it's all that matters. I'm excited for region now because I know I've done everything I could up until now and I'm going to prepare well for it in the next few days. I'm nervous, but excited! I think the girls can take region this year and it would be awesome if we did!!

Region 6 championships (3 Miles) 00:20:08, Place overall: 5 | | Regions!
Got 1.5 warmup in, then went to the line and did strides and such. I felt a little nervous, but in a way wasn't prepared to race.
I started way too fast, for some reason I went out with Millika which was stupid cause I knew she was a lot faster than me. I felt stiff and every step was forced. I didn't feel relaxed. I run better when I'm relaxed and I feel like I'm running smooth. Yeah, not today. I just in general felt awful. Didn't want to tell anyone that in fear of bringing the team down though. The first mile felt fast but probably wasn't, then just died from there. I fell off of the lead pack right before the mile, then just thought to myself that I have 2 miles to catch 2 people. My original plan was to start picking it up with a mile to go so I did. I picked it up after roller coaster and focused on Megan and a Clearfield girl. I passed Megan by the pine tree and tried to catch up to Clearfield, who somehow missed the turn at the top of Miranda and started heading down to the parking lot, so I got in front there, but she probably got an adrenaline burst and passed me back pretty fast. Then Tilda passed me with 800 to go and I tried to match but honestly couldn't get myself to. Up Bessie for the last time I really tried to kick but felt awful and just wanted to be done.
Quite an awful race for me. Just so frustrated right now. I did things differently than I normally do for races, why I just don't know, but at least I know what to do and what not to do.
Okay enough with the negatives. Positives of the race: THE GIRLS TOOK REGION!!!! Good job team!

| | Today we did a bit of speed. We did 2 grass laps warmup avoiding the hill, then went to the asphalt hill and did 5 of those, then went back up and started the workout. We did 2 200s (36, 35) to open up stride. On the second one I got hit in the head with a football, thanks football players, it felt really good. Anyway, we then did 2 400s (80, 82) and then 2 800s (2:48, 2:50.) I was supposed to hit 85s for the 400s and 2:50 for the 800s. So it was too fast. But it was weird, I was feeling crappy and sick to my stomach. Normally when I feel that way I do bad in the workout. Like half of the team was hurting or sore or something, so Bill decided to change it and we'll do a better speed workout on thursday. We did one more 400 and called it good, but everyone was to hit their time (84 - actually had to slow down the last 200 - 100 meters to hit it close.) I kinda wish we had gotten it over with but you gotta do what the team needs. Maybe on thursday I can actually be consistently hitting the right times. Then we did VA loop and finished to 3, then got free donuts at Banbury Cross, which were delicious!

Anyway, 40 minutes is what Bill said to do, so I went out 20 and back, although I went a bit slower on the way back so It was actually 41:33. :/ I felt great to start off then when I turned around it didn't seem like so much fun. Went to the trail again, turned around a little sooner than yesterday because I was going slower, wanted to relax a little more. My legs felt a little tight at that 20 minute mark so I stopped to stretch and felt much better after. Then threw in a bit of fartlek, (5x 1 minute on 1 minute off) it really helped get over the mental factor of having to go back. The trail isn't even hard, I think it was just the out and back part of it and the trail seems to go on forever. Today I did feel more tired due to lack of sleep (ha). Once I got back Olivia and Clara were still coming back so I added along a bridge and back along the trail until I met up with them and came back with them. St. George is awesome

| | Today was a short speed workout. I felt okay when we started, so I hoped the speed would go well. The hills felt fine and the warmup was fine too. When we started the speed part I started to not feel so good. We did an 800, 600, 400, 400, 4x200s. In the 800, 400 into it I already felt awful. My stomach didn't feel great in the warmup, but I can usually run through that so it didnt worry me. My legs started to feel heavy after the 800, but I can work through that so it was alright. But what is still slightly new to me, what I wasn't expecting, was my asthma to act up. My asthma sort of went away after I don't know what age, but certain things, I realize now, trigger it. Indoor track last year I remember it was a problem. But today was the first day since that it has come back. Could it have been the elevation change? I don't know, but it was a really scary feeling. After the 600 and first 400 especially, I felt my throat start to close and panicked a bit. I was more careful after that, tried to control my breathing better and it seemed to help a little. My times were 2:45, 76, 81, 37, 37, 37, 37. Then did 5 minutes of cool down.

2013 Utah UHSAA State X/C (3 Miles) 00:22:32, Place overall: 107 | | State!
I warmed up with the Varsity girls and did strides and such, really didn't feel in the race mode until right before the race when we were lining up. I got a great start, almost too good to be true, I had been fretting that I was going to get boxed in. It looked like I was in the top 25. LOTS of elbowing, some girl jabbed my side along the straight after the first hill. We came along the flower beds and I used the downhill well, was doing great. I had thought that today was my lucky day. If I could just keep it up I would have a good time. But then a girl behind me followed too close and kicked my feet out from under me and I fell, her falling on top of me. I really hurt my hip, and it took a lot More effort than it should have to get back up and start running again. There went my good start. When I started again, my hip hurt so bad I was on the verge of tears, the choking feeling did not feel good going up state hill. I tried to calm myself and just focus on my race, but couldn't focus again. Not with everyone now passing me. My mile mark was 6:26 including my stupid fall and state hill. Yeah I forgot to turn off GPS but whatever. I felt like I was just running the last part. Really slow. Some parts like poker hill felt like above 10 minute pace. I tried to pull myself together, but it was like after I tripped I flipped a switch and everything turned negative, plus my hip hurt a ton. I literally thought in the middle of the race "Well XC junior year turned out a failure." And it did. Couldn't even pull off a good race at region let alone state. I wanted to quit so many times in the race. I forced myself to finish though. i also fought the urge to walk. man i havent felt that urge in a really long time. At the 2 mile mark i heard Tomy and Natalie screaming at me, and Bill yelling to pick it up. I tried, I really did. I focused on my arms and tried to get myself moving. Arou the pond people started passing me again, I tried to match but lost it when Olivia passed me. She was nice enough to talk me through it and tell me to go with her. I tried to kick with 300 left going towards the track. I let everyone down and everyone was disappointed in me. I went from freaking top 30 to 107th. Of course I had to do bad at the most important race of the season.

| | On my own today. I can't tell if my hip is feeling better or if it hurts the same because of the soreness in my calves. I can feel it but my calves hurt so bad that I hardly notice it. What the heck? I didn't even do well yesterday, why are my calves so sore?! I can barely walk! Or sit for that matter, I hope my hip will heal soon. I think it is better than yesterday though. Fun fact, my whole run today was faster than my last 2 miles of racing yesterday. (Sub 8 minute pace). Nice relaxed run. Now to get back to the enormous pile of papers that make up my homework...

| | Today I had a test so I completely missed the meeting, but I think I know what it was about already. I got there in time for the run though :) we went up legacy bridge way to the drinking fountain, then adventure run to Shriners. I got confused because I stopped at the drinking fountain to stretch my incredibly sore calves and saw the group keep going up, like they were supposed to, but somehow thought that maybe we were supposed to o up to the fence and back. So I went up to the fence and realized that I wasn't supposed to but oh well. Then came back down and went the right way. Probably added about a mile. I felt a little out of place running through the U campus with my BYU shirt i won from the BYU race... My legs couldn't take too fast of a pace today. Good news though, my hip is starting to feel better, I think icing it helped.

| | I wanted to get at least 9 today, but it has been busy. So many things to do. Just did my version of thunderbird flagpole run. Each day I slowly start to feel better, I'm not quite as sore anymore which is good. I've set some goals for myself for track, so hopefully I'll do better in track than I did in XC. It's weird to think that this year I could break 5 in the 1600... That's a scary thought. I'm still used to thinking about trying to break 5:20, cause I only did it once. That's the nice thing about running, even if people around you are doing better than you, you can set goals for yourself in your times and still feel satisfied. Wish I figured that out sooner in the year.

| | Today we went to Liberty. We did 2x2 mile tempo. It was supposed to be at 3 mile PR pace plus a minute for the 2 miles, so for me around 13:40. First one too fast at 12:57, then second one even faster at 12:51. It was nice on the second one to have Bill pushing me. Felt kinda sluggish but oddly did better than I expected.

| | Today we just went for a run. We went to sugarhouse and did 2 laps on the new trail and went back to the school. The first 2 miles felt hard but once we were in sugarhouse I looked at my watch and we were going sub 6:20 pace so that's why. So I backed off to a more comfortable pace - 7:30ish. Then on the way back Dakota had stopped and so he was with me and I decided to try to go with him, yeah only kept that up for about a half mile. But it did get me going faster, was closer to 7 minute pace then. Averaged 7:05 which surprised me too, I guess I have been improving I've just been too discouraged to notice.

| | Today was a good day. Ran up to the track and did 2 track laps warmup then a mile speed changes. Then we started the workout, 5 x 1000s. Bill said to hit 3:45-3:50. I hit 3:35, 3:41, 3:41, 3:40, 3:37. On the last two I felt like I was going to throw up my lunch, I guess that's what happens when you eat a large one (I was expecting to go to the oval, but I'm glad we didn't!) I think I'm catching another stupid cold, my throat is starting to burn. Just what I wanted. Did 600 recovery in between each and then mile cool down.

Yeah, only two people actually answered and one of which shut the door in our faces and locked it. But hey a Reece's and Kit Kat bar are great too! And the best part was that they didn't melt in my hands! Then we went back to the cemetery and did another lap and back to the school.

It didn't really work out for me because as soon as I was putting the last couple handfuls in the bag, the wind picked up scattering more leaves everywhere. Oh well, I tried. | | YToday was speed. We ran up to the track and did 2 laps then a mile of speed changes. Then we did 6x800s. I felt awful for some reason. Not like anything in particular was hurting, just generally felt sluggish and felt like I couldn't hit my times, kind of lethargic. Maybe my cold just hit me hard? I read somewhere that colds make you tired. Anyway, the first one was too fast, but it felt too fast from the start so I expected that. 2:42. Then slowed down a lot and got 2:56, 2:57? 2:58? 3:02-3:04, 2:55-2:56. Idk really, I didn't have my garmin because I misplaced it. I need to take better care of things. My hips and legs started to hurt weird but I think it was because of wearing trainers. We had a lap between each for recovery. Then did a grass lap and back to the school for cool down.

| | First official day of indoor track! We did 2 vertical laps and stretched like normal, and drills and such. Then we went to the weight room (it looks a lot better now that they've moved stuff around and added new equipment) and did lots of stuff in there like dead lifts, squats, lifted weights, planks, bench pressed the bar (ha), arm swings, and wall sits. It all seemed a lot easier than I was expecting. I remember last year I could barely lift a 20 lb. weight and it was easy to do the stuff the new coach made us do. Although the squats Griff made us do hurt my neck and now I'm pretty sure I have a bruise from the bar. Anyway, after that we went for our run and I wasn't completely exhausted by then like I was a lot last year. Then again we didn't do particularly difficult stuff, but still, it didn't even feel like I picked up any weights.
We did flagpole to flagpole run. We went to the U flagpole first, then to Westminister. I tried to keep up with Dakota, Andy, and Garek. They kept pulling away but they missed a couple lights so I was able to catch up a couple of times. Going back from Westminister to the school they all made a light and I didn't so for the last bit I was alone, but oh well, I worked. It felt like a fast pace and a good run.

Then we went to the hill below the field and did 4x50 meter strides up the hill and then 4x25 meter strides up. It wasn't very tiring but the sprinters were all worn out :) I love track I have decided. I feel better on a track than on grass and seem to do better in track. Anyway, distance went down to liberty and did 1 minute on 1 minute off 5 times around the pond. I got 4 laps in after finishing the lap i was on. Pre-Footlocker 5k (3.2 Miles) 00:20:43, Place overall: 33 | | AM:
Today I just in general felt bad, my left leg (weird, not the right one) was sore and I felt sick to my stomach. I think maybe i shouldn't have eaten that much before. In the race I just didn't want it enough. I made a move after like a half mile cause I told myself to catch up to Eleanor, so I did. Then I just sort of gave up and started to just run it, and a lot of people passed me. I fought people occasionally but not as much as I needed to. then with like 400-500 left decided I actually did want it and had a good kick but didn't start soon enough. I was able to outkick like 5 or 6 people, I told myself it was just like track where you have to have a good kick, and the track helped me pretend. But I proved to myself what I've been missing the entire season, the desire to win. If I can get myself to want it earlier in a race and race it to win I think I could do a lot better. But the majority of my races have been bad because I don't want it enough. I did feel like I was pushing most of the race, except for one spot where I slipped and let my mind get to me. I should get my mileage up, I always feel better when I am doing higher mileage. I think I've enjoyed these past few weeks of "sleeping in" and now it's time to run in the mornings. Now to find someone to run with...:)
Did about a mile cool down. I looked back on last years race (which was the same course) and it was overmeasured, 3.2. some say it was 3.3 though
PM:
It was a BAD idea to run through the U campus tonight. I forgot about the football game. SO MANY PEOPLE. Going along guardsman was chaos. I had to weave through the crowd even through the alley. (I went Shriner's run.) I decided to change where I was going once I got to the drinking fountain in effort to avoid the crowd, yeah that backfired. I went down virginia street and there were still a lot of people, and then had to stop at a ton of lights and there was lots of traffic, then had to wait for the trains, and it was all just a bad idea. Although I felt much better tonight than I did this morning. I felt like I was going pretty fast, that is whenever I wasn't trapped in the crowd. 6.75 miles

Really shouldn't have been that hard but I just didn't want to push myself and wish I would've. I also needed to puke, but couldn't force myself to, I tried before going up to Sunnyside but the idea grossed me out. Grass lap and back down to the school. I felt brain dead and drained today because of tests and math that did not make sense to me, but when I went back to it, it seemed quite easy...wierd. Anyway, we went up to the track and stretched (which felt wierd, I felt like we needed to do another 2 laps at least) and then we did stadium drill laps, 6 of those. Then distance went to the asphalt hill and did 5 of those, and then 5x800s at tempo pace, a lap recovery, continuous, with the last 50 meter "fly" thing. The pace felt really slow at first, but then as it went on it got harder to speed up from the lap of recovery. Even though the recovery felt slow. I don't like the slow down speed up, I like consistency, and being able to stop after recovery lap. It was just different and not what I was expecting. I tried to stay with Andy and Dakota, I was able to for the first few but the last 2? I was on my own for. When we were done we did a core thing that made me realize I need to do my core. We went up to sunnyside did a lap and went back down to the school for cool down. When I got home I did my crunches and arm swings.

| | Today I went with Bill and Dakota to the college races to watch Natalie and Susannah! So we ran around there cheering them on, which involved more running than I thought. My jeans weren't so fun to run in. At least they were somewhat stretchy. Anyway, then we went back to the school and I hopped in for drills as they were finishing them, and then we went to the weight room and did weights and core stuff, and then we played fox and the hound. We ended up playing 3 rounds. My favorite workout ever! Although I don't think I can count anything as mileage...

| | Ran up to the track and did 2 laps then a mile of speed changes. Then we changed shoes and did another lap and started the speed. The workout was 1600, then 3 sets of 3x300s. For the 1600 we were supposed to hit 5:30-5:40 and I got 5:42. I think Eleanor said our splits were 79, 2:46 (87), 4:16 (90), and 5:42 (86). I felt pretty good on the mile, I wasn't sure I could do it fast. Then for the 300s I'd always get to the line and immediately we'd start again, so very little recovery, like it was supposed to be, but that was what was hard for me. On the last 2 I got a huge sideache, but of course had to run through it. I slipped on the last couple. I don't remember many of the times, but I think for the most part they were 58-63? Some were faster and some were slower. I don't really know. Then we did 2 grass laps and back down to the school.

Track warmup: 2 vertical laps, stretching, and drills, then wall sits that seemed surprisingly easy, then did some leg workout on the stairs. Then distance went for our run: to sugarhouse and 10 continuous hills by the white tree and then a lap and back to the school. Dakota said he was 6:49 average pace at the light which probably would've made me a little above 7 average. So not too bad I guess. Then there was always the 2 miles back to the school so it could've changed. Oh well, I did feel like I was pushing so that's all that matters. 7.5 miles. Early bed time? I think so. I'm really tired, probably from staying up late last night and getting up early this morning to go running.

Nike Cross Southwest Girls Championship (3.107 Miles) 00:19:47, Place overall: 115 | | The race was today! We went to the course and after cheering everyone on and waiting around for our race I lost Emmaline and Eleanor and found Megan so I did my warmup with her and she did it as her cool down. After going to the line we did strides and such. I was in box 13 so right in the middle :)
When I got out I was already towards the back because I got boxed in. If I could do it over again I would have been more aggressive at the line. But once it got further into the race I was able to start passing people. Going through the trench the first time was a bit sketchy because I almost tripped and fell in the water. I didn't get too wet though so that was good. It was SO MUDDY after that, some parts so bad that it felt like I wasn't moving. But at least it was a flat course. Going through the trench the second time my shoes were finally soaked through and I had puddles in my spikes for the next half mile, more mud and more slipping. After mile 2 it got hard for me. I felt like I could breathe just fine, surprisingly easily, but my legs just hurt. Idk how to explain it. When we turned for the final stretch I forgot how long it was and started to kick too soon and when I went through the trench for the third time I slowed down and the people I passed had passed me back. I got myself to start kicking again a little after that but it wasn't much. I was hoping for a faster time, but I guess I'm alright with it. Wish I could've worked harder the last mile.
Then we did a cool down and I'm counting it as 2 miles. It was 18 minutes long

| | We went up to the zoo trail and did hills, 3 different ones twice each. The third one we went up a different way that literally kept climbing for forever. We eventually continued up that hill to the top, and it was so steep. When we got to the top we did another hill, by now I was worn out, and another one that wasn't as bad. Then we took a different way back that included both steep uphill and downhill. And when I say steep I mean the one uphill seemed almost vertical. At least to me. And it continued going up and down until it finally connected with the zoo trail and we took it back to Sunnyside and went back through This is the Place. My new shoes felt amazing, but my ankles felt really tight going up to the trail and they hurt. They warmed up during the hills though, except then it was my calves and lower calves that hurt, and on the downhill my hip hurt but it was like inside the bone, idk how to describe it. But I hope it feels better tomorrow. I have realized that I really suck at hills. I like downhill, but not the steep parts we were running on, I can usually use downhill pretty well. I felt like maybe some of the hills though were just mentally tough for me so I did bad. I need to get better at that, too.

The deal I made with mom for this trip was that I stay on the island and run with my phone and I have to be home before dark. So that meant I could only get in 2 laps today, although I felt good and could have gone a lot longer. About 35 minutes for the 4.5 miles. There was snow and ice on the dirt road so I had to be careful not to fall but other than that I think I like running up here more in the winter than in the summer. Probably because I can't swim or go boating like we usually do because it is now ice :)

Then for the 400 I was supposed to hit 78-80, I hit 77. Then the 200s were all between 34-35. Then a grass lap and up to sunnyside, a lap, and back to the track for cool down. For the track stuff we did a ton of lunges that made my legs feel like jelly... Luckily distance runners only had to do 2 sets of lunges all the way across the hallway, from the one side to the other where we do drills, while the sprinters had to do 4 :) Then distance went for our run, flagpole to flagpole. I took it easier, I ran with Andy, Caden and Jakob. Then when we got by the school coming back from the U flagpole our pace had slowed a lot so I picked it up.

Foot locker West seeded girls (3.107 Miles) 00:22:16 | | Race today. My race was last, the seeded girls, and of course it decided to rain right when the seeded races started. By the time the girls started it was so muddy. I got about 25 minutes of warmup in and strides and stuff.
When we started I was back of the pack already which was discouraging. I focused on catching people and tried to relax like Bill said to do. Going around that fence was sooo muddy and I had no traction whatsoever from my flats. I had to slow down a ton to avoid slipping. The second time around I wasn't so lucky and my foot slid out from under me. I scraped up my knee, elbow, and hip, but I was determined not to let it turn out like state. Up the switchbacks the mud changed from slippery to sticky and it stuck to the bottom of our shoes making it a lot more difficult. I used the downhill and was able to catch a few people there. On the cement I surged because I knew the next patch of mud was going to slow me down. Up poop out I had to walk halfway up because the mud was so slick that I was going slip and fall to the bottom. I walked to the side and when I could I finished the hill. I really didn't want to walk so I was upset about that. Going down the hill I was careful not to slip but turning the corner I guess I wasn't as careful because I slipped again and scraped the other side of me. Up the reservoir hill i caught a few people. Finishing I caught myself from falling a few times. I realized I was bleeding when I finished so that was fun. Now im typing this in the bus, and we still have to drive from St. George to Salt Lake. We will have been traveling home for 32 hours when we finally arrive because we got caught in traffic in the canyon and the bus driver has to sleep. So yeah.
i don't really know what my time was but it was slow.

| | Today we did Shriners run. We went along 13th to President's circle and throught the U campus on the way there, turned around at the fire station and went back the normal way. 6 miles. I felt short of breath for pretty much the whole run, and my legs felt really tight.

| | My alarm didn't go off this morning, I set it for PM instead of AM by accident and was late for first period. :( I feel really bad, I was gonna meet Eleanor for a run.
Today we did track warmup of vertical laps, stretching and drills, then distance went to the weight room and did squats, lunges, calf raises, and plankie thingies (IDK what to call them). Then we went for our run. We went along 13th to 21st, then down to 900 and over to 900th then back up to the school.

| | Today we had track again, we did vertical laps and then stretching and drills. Then we went up to C floor and did 10 stride things focusing on form. Then the strides took too long so we skipped core because it was getting too late. We went to sugarhouse via 13th, did 2 laps, and back along 15th, and down 9th to the school. I felt pretty crappy and tired. Lethargic.

| | Today we did track again, vertical laps, stretching and drills. Then we did our ab workout that made my abs feel like they were going to split apart. I've started doing core again but I'm not that strong yet. Then we went down to Liberty and went short way to the fountain. We got a drink then went to the mile, and did 2x 2 mile tempos with an 800 recovery back to the mile mark. On the first one Bill kept telling me to relax/slow down. It just felt so slow! I think we came through the mile at 6:31? And I didn't feel like I was pushing! Then again it was slightly downhill for that part but still... Bill told me to slow down and so we did and our little group got 13:47. Then Bill paced it and we were even and our splits were 3:25, 6:51 (3:26), 10:17 (3:26), 13:41 (3:24). It was even easier that way. I was surprised I felt so good because lately I haven't felt good at all. And what's funny is we were just running it today, and once upon a time (ahem, freshman year) I was racing and only got 7 seconds faster. :) Then we went back to the fountain and then back up to the school. Early bedtime? I think so.

| | Apparently I spaced out yesterday and missed the part about no practice today...so I ran with Eleanor! We did a nice and easy run up to the zoo and took Wasatch to some street and then back to 13th and down to 19th. Then over to 9th, back down to Eleanor's house :)

| | So today I was really busy.... I had a baby shower I had to go to in the morning that lasted longer than I anticipated and I had to do chores and homework, then watch my sister and finally go to work. So when I got off work I went up to the treadmills and ran exactly 3 before they closed :) I felt tight and my hips were sore/hurting, probably from ice skating for so long.

| | I went up with Bill, Dakota and Eleanor to Park City to get out of the bad air. I felt fine at the beginning but then got really bad cramps and slowed down, I walked a couple times because it hurt so bad and I almost got lost on the way back. At one point I just hoped to get back before it was dark. Yeah that didn't happen.

| | Today for track we did a lot of stuff. We did plenty of drills, I think Rich and Vuong were trying to make them go for as long as possible... or that's what it seemed like to me. Then we went up to C floor and did different rotations, Juniors started with Bill and ran and gradually got faster until you were sprinting, then recover and do it again, then we switched to Griff and did core that hurt very much, then to James and did something I forgot the name of but made my arms tired, and then to Tolbert to do fall and goes focusing on driving your foot down. We did that 4 times with about a minute to each rotation but somehow seemed much longer (except for Bill's part, that went by a lot faster.)
Then I went with Emmaline to Steiner and I did 4.5 on the treadmill which sucked. The first 3 miles I did at a relaxed 7:30 pace, then I started to get dizzy and so I backed off. I think I need to start hydrating more.

| | Today abbreviated drills and then stretching and then went for our run. We went Shriners run, then to City Creek, then down that path to South Temple and back up to 13th and back to East. I am SO SORE from yesterday! I felt like it was a good run, I finally felt good for once! I think it was because I have more motivation now because it's hit me that track is about to start and I've decided I really like track! I'm a lot more excited about track than I was cross country. I don't know why.

| | I went to Steiner with my brother since today they cancelled all after school activities in effort to get everyone off the snowy roads by 3. Or that's at least what they said. Anyway, Bill said to run for an hour and four minutes, which I think if you went 8 minute pace would get you to 8. I ran at 7.8 MPH for pretty much the whole thing until the last part (after you run an hour on the treadmills apparently they are programmed to slow down to give you a 5 minute cool down, so that surprised me and I went back up to 7.6 MPH.) Now I'm waiting for my brother to finish with his workout so I think I'll go do core by the ice rink. I'm still a bit sore from Tuesday.

| | My sister went to school last week and got croup and shared it with our family as an early Christmas present. Haha just kidding, she didn't mean to, but I did end up with the virus this weekend. Hers and my other sisters were worse. So yeah, I got barely any sleep last night because I couldn't stop coughing. Maybe it was better that I didn't go to the oval today and make everyone else sick. Anyway, I just went for a short run. I was going to do more (at least 8) but I felt really crappy so I cut it short. Although I'm glad I forced myself to go for a run. Not only do I feel slightly better, I found money on the sidewalk with no one around. So naturally I picked it up. It was getting soaked in the snow anyway. It reminds me of the time I found an iPod touch on the sidewalk. I left that one where it was.

| | Unfortunately no running today. I had a family Christmas party that took up most of the day, and when we got home it was dark, plus steiners not open. So I did lots of core instead. How do people take off so much time from running? I've missed two days (well three including Sunday but I don't believe in running on sundays) and I'm going crazy. Plus I feel more and more out of shape. Maybe some of it comes from the stupid Para Flu, but I still feel like crap. My throat is on fire and I have random coughing fits and can't breathe because my nose is clogged. On the plus side though its Christmas!!! Best present yet: a blender. Jk you know it's new flats. About time I got some eh? Thanks Natalie for letting me have your old ones. Maybe it's time they retire. :)

| | I have never felt so sick. It seems to keep getting worse. I have a huge headache on top of the sore throat, cough and congestion. I kept telling myself I could finish the whole run (I was planning on 10 a day for the rest of the week to get my mileage to something okay) but I couldn't make it halfway. I really want to be able to go 10 miles like I could just a week ago, but I can't. I went from my house up to the golf course and had to stop because of a coughing fit, then when that was over with I went to the zoo and started down Sunnyside. I got to foothill and started going along there like the VA loop until the headache I got this morning intensified and I finally just gave up, turned around and went back home. Having minor coughing fits along the way. I hate being sick.

| | Should've at least tried to go running but at about 9:30 this morning my head felt like it was going to split open, and still does. Migraine. Does running help migraines or make them worse? Might be nice to know for the next time I get one.

| | I don't know what was with me today, but somehow I convinced myself I wasn't sick anymore. That's definitely not true. Maybe it was because my head no longer felt like it was going to explode. Which is still a good thing. Well, I was in the mood to see how fast I could run a mile. I was hoping for sub 5:40 but shouldve known there was no way. I at least expected sub 5:50. I ran to Liberty and went to the 2 mile mark. That way I could start with a slight uphill and end with a slight downhill. I got 6:14. That's so slow! I was really disappointed. Right when I finished I started to cough which proved I really am not better, but once that was over I decided to try again. Half mile was a 3:08 so I quit. Really discouraging. Granted it was cold, im still sick and slightly out of shape, and the air was bad, but I want to be able to run well again, and don't want anymore excuses. I ran back to the drinking fountain and went home via 1300 S. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to try to do that kind of a workout, but it was nice to at least change it up from just runs.

| | Went up to Park City with Bill, Dakota, Clayton, and Eleanor. I feel so much better! I'm glad this sickness is finally going away. We did 10 today, I fell off of then after a bit, but stayed fairly close behind, I could still see them which was good because I almost went the wrong way. When they were coming back Bill told me to turn around and run with them then add when we get back to go to the full 10. I was glad because it picked up my pace. I hung on for maybe a mile, I fell off a little but stayed maybe 20 meters back, but then I started to cough and had to stop. I was still pleased that I held it off for that long. Once I got over it I kept going, had to stop once more. But I still felt much better than I have lately. Happy to run a longer distance.

| | Today I decided to do the Beat the New Year 5k, and I'm glad I did! It was fun! I liked racing in the dark. It was an easy course, just 2 laps around sugarhouse and a little out and back on a small road inside the loop. The food I ate right before wasn't settling too great. I felt like I went fast, I wish they had times. Maybe it really wasn't that fast, I don't really know. But I worked the whole thing, when Bill and his full costume passed me I tried to go with. He told me that it was the time to race (this was the second lap). When people were cheering for me saying "yay first girl" I finally believed I could be the first girl. Coming back from the out and back part I saw the second girl and told myself there was no way she was catching me, and she didn't! Felt like a good race, and a fun one too. Plus I got a $100 gift card so that made me happy.
