Today was my first day with the cross country team, even though they started yesterday. I ran about 4 miles, and I remember that we started In sugarhouse park. We went into a territory that I don't know very well, so I don't know how to explain where we went. It was the buddy run, and my partner was Natalie. I got to know Natalie a lot better, even though I already knew her. I can tell you that the run had tons of flowers in it, mostly because we talked of them a lot of the time. It wasn't actually as hard as I thought it would be, and I look forward to more!

today we ran four miles. we ran from sugarhouse park to fairmont, and then did 8 strides. by the last one I felt like I didn't want to run anymore. However, I did make it all the way back to sugarhouse park. When I was reminded of the circuit we had to do, I didn't want to do any of it. But I knew I had to, and so I put my best efforts into it. the circuit was super tiring, and by the end I could barely walk. The nice lady in charge (sorry! I am trying to learn names!) had to ask if I was okay, and that just kinda shows how tired I was. I think I'm still going to stick with the team though.

The nice lady in charge's name is Emily. Hmm . . . if you think I'm so nice, maybe I need to be tougher! just kidding! You did great on the circuit.

So, today I ran 4 miles. The warmup was 1 1/2 laps around the gully that is near it. I then did these arm things that were supposed to help. By the end I cuold feel a small burn. Then ran the Fartlek at Sunnyside Park, and by the end I felt horrible. These nice boys had told me to keep going and to try to keep up with them, and I think it was because of them I was able to finish. After that we ran a big lap around the park. I really felt out of shape and hope to improve. I am glad I am doing the Cross Country team at East because I know I will get loads better.

Today we ran at Liberty Park. I ran a lap around following the wood chip path. In the middle of it I felt really worn out, and I eventually started to slow down, and I couldn't keep up with the people up front. Everybody kept passing me, and I thought for sure I was in the back. Towards the end, I was starting to get my strength back, and I picked up my pace and finally finished. I stretched with the group, and was glad to find out I was NOT at the back. Then we went over to do a hill thing by the pond. We had to run up the hill, across the top, and back down the other side, around the flag pole wall, and back up, across, and down the hill. We had to do it 6 times. I was actually expecting this to be super hard, but it wasn't quite as hard as I thought it would be. Don't get me wrong- it was pretty difficult, but with the older people pushing me, I really put my best efforts into it. I am pleased to say that I never walked through it once. after that I ran another lap around the park, again following the wood chip trail. Towards the middle I got confused seeing the advanced people coming from the other direction, but then I remembered they were doing something else. One day, I hope to become one of those Advanced people. When I got home, Though a little later in the day, I did my core stuff.

Sounds like you are a fighter and that is what it sometimes takes. You will be great and I am so glad you decided to run on the XC team. Just reading your last three entries shows you will be one of our best this year. Keep it going, I think you will like some of the stuff we do next week. See you Monday. Make sure you get your runs in the rest of the week:)

Great job, I loved reading your entries. Keep up the good work, you already have a strong mindset so the physical strength will come with continued effort and practice :)

Today I had early morning practice with cross country. we had to run 4 200s and 4 400s around the track. I was super worn out at the end. I had a really hard time doing them. I am NOT good at speed workouts!!!!! i breath waaay heavier than anyone who was around me. i am not good at that stuff! in PE i ran a mile. after school we ran up to This Is The Place park. I took the shorter route. Then Bill had us run all around trying to figure out where he should have the route of the race tomorrow set out. After he had figured it out, he told us to run it again and head back to the track. I ran about half of it and went back with olivia because my knees were killing and her IT band was hurting. I was very tired after all of that and was ready to just go take a nap! this turned out to be 11.5 miles for me.

Today was a meet at This is The Place park. I ran about a mile warm up, and then for the race it was some loop around a parking lot, up and down some hills a bunch of times, and running on a bunch of loose gravel. The gravel was super hard to run on because you kept sinking into it. It sort of felt like I was running on sand. During the race, I started off really good and started to crash after the first mile 1/2. I tried my best. when i was done, I did a half mile cool down.

Today was the BYU race. I did about a mile warm up, and then raced. the race was probably around 3 miles. I started off a little fast, but I managed to run the whole way. (that is an accomplishment for me believe it or not.) I ran at a faster pace than I usually would. towards the end, I started to crash, like I usually do on races, but it was later than I expected. I ran through it, mostly because bill kept yelling at me not to stop, and i didn't want him to be mad at me for stopping. I really wanted to be in top 30, but i did better than i usually would so i'm happy anyway. I improved on my time compared to the this is the place park race by 3 minutes! this was about 5 miles.

I was really tired towards the end. That is why i was so slow. But i made sure I kept running. Then i took a small break and ran back home. It turned out to be about 7 1/4 miles.

Today was the race at murray. I did a lot better than I usually would! I was actually shocked that I was first from East in the rookie race. I did a warm up that was around a mile, and then had to quickly line up for the race, seeing as my race was the first race, and i was a little late. Yeah, I missed the bus. pretty stupid of me, huh? I feel really bad about that. well, in the race I didn't start off sprinting like i did in the other races. I still was fast, but not quite as fast. I ended up being in the middle of the group, and I was blocked in for a little bit. once things started to get a little wider i started to pass people. The part that wore me out the most was going up this huge hill that went on for what seemed like forever. I slowed down, but Bill kept yelling at me to keep going and pass people and all that jazz. I passed Olivia and Jesse and I was really shocked and so I thought that I must be going too fast and that I might start to crash any second. but I just kept going. Then I passed Annie, and Bill started to yell at both of us and told us to keep passing people. He said that we might be able to get medals. I passed a few people, and then I realized how close I was to the finish line and I started to sprint. I sprinted so hard that I thought I was going to pass out. I couldn't feel my arms or my legs. the cheers from the crowd was all mushed together. It was kinda scary. I recovered when I was under this pavilion thing about 6 minutes later. I did a little over a 1/2 mile cool down. It was a pretty good race! I got 29th overall and was the first from East. My time was 22:14.

It wasn't the greatest day for me, but I'm glad Olivia was there to help push me, and I'm sure she was glad I pushed her. we went up past hogle zoo and along some street down to thunderbird.  anyway, when we got to the drinking fountain, there was no water! we were mad about that! hehe! so then we went along foothill and down to 1900 E. this is where Olivia left me. She had to go somewhere. I followed that to sunnyside and down to the East track.

But that wasn't gonna happen! then Bill finally arrived and I had really wanted to stop. yep, well he was going way faster than me and I tried to keep up, but still lagged behind. He and some other people came back around and lapped me. then I finished my 10 (yay!) and went along to complete the loop. I was going pretty slow when Bill came up behind me and told me to keep running even though i was tired. I stayed up with him (at his pace) as we went along 1300 E. when we were going up sunnyside I was dying, but I stayed up with him. I thought I did a pretty good job.

When we were sort of by the U of U campus, we had to wait for a light, and I talked to Chris for a bit. Then I tried to stay up with him and the front boys. That lasted until I got to the drinking fountain. Then I lagged behind, and Bill told me to keep up with him when I reached him, so I did. I had a hard time going along 11th Ave. but I managed. I stayed with Bill all the way until around sunnyside, then I started to lag behind a bit, but I tried to keep up. luckily we were almost done. Today was state. I ran a 1 mile warm up. In the race, I did pretty bad. I think I started out too fast at the beginning. I crashed when I was running around the pond the first time. I tried to just keep running, but it was really hard, especially with a hill right after i crashed. I wanted to stop so many times, but I wouldn't let myself. The second time around the pond was one of the times I really almost stopped, but then people told me there was only a little bit left. I thought that the race ended sooner than it did, so I kicked way too soon. I got to the highland track when I felt like I was gonna pass out. I had trouble staying conscious, so went really slow and probably looked like a fool. It was a really scary feeling. it was a really bad race. I got 23:14.2, a full minute behind my P. R. I was 124th overall, 115th scoring, and 6th from East. I'm just glad I got the experience so that I know what I need to work on.

Okay, so I have officially run out of Ideas for runs, so now I am adding onto some of the team runs. Today I added on to the cemetery loop run. Sorry, I forgot the name of the cemetery. I ran from my house and along 1700 E, over to and up Military Dr. and over to Sunnyside. I followed Sunnyside up to foothill, and followed foothill down to the cemetery. I did a loop inside it. While I was in the cemetery, I  found some visitors! This huge group of deer was standing next to the road I was running on, and they got scared and some ran away. the others just stared at me. I was really scared because one big one would not look away. Anyway, after that I followed 13th over to sunnyside again, went up to the street just above the tennis courts, over to 900 S. and up to Military Dr. and went home. It was a 6 1/2 mile run.

So, today was just a run. I was in the more advanced group, so Bill had to push me so I would keep up with the group, which was actually hard for me because they were going at a pace faster than I am used to. It seemed like speed to me. I was able to keep up with them for most of it, but then towards the end I started to lag behind. We started out with 2 laps around East. honestly, I am still trying to learn names of streets. I can't remember the street name that we went on, but I know we went past Westminister college. I was also paying more attention to keeping up with the group. When we got to the street sugarhouse park is, we turned down and went down for like what seemed like forever, really close to Liberty park. There were a lot of smells of food that made me hungry! then we turned on some street (sorry i don't know the name!) and went over to sunnyside??? and up the huge hill. by here i was falling behind. I had a hard time going up the hill. When we got back to East I was way behind. I did a lap around East and was done!

Today's workout just killed me. we did our core in the weight room. We did sit-ups, planks, arm swings, wall-sits, squats while holding weights, and lunges. the lunges fired up my I. T. band and for the rest of the workout I had a hard time. Then we did the actual run.

So today there were only 4 of us: me, Bill, Chris, and Natalie. Okay do the math: Bill, Chris, and Natalie are super fast, and I am always toward the back of the group. this is a recipe for a problem, and add no watch to that is just digging a deeper hole. I need a watch. Anyway, we went to the oval and did a speed thing. I did less than the other 3. we started with a warm up (i think it was 3 laps) and then stretched and got started on the rest. I wasn't actually feeling too good, but i just kept going. the workout the others did was 5 1100s? 1000s? something like that. I had to do their pace, but as they went around for a third time I dropped out. Bill told me to. I just stretched and waited for them, which gave me more recovery time (and I was thankful for it). Then we did 11 laps cool down. It was supposed to be a 10 mile run, but for the speed part I didn't do as much as them, so I did the math and i got somewhere in between 8 1/2 and 9 so i just said 8.75 miles for the day.

so today we went from East to sugarhouse. we started a lap around and stopped just before we got to Highland. There was some hill that we ran 12 times up and down it. on the first couple I wasn't feeling it, but then I realized that, "hey, I should be trying my best and pushing myself like I would in speed" so by the like 3rd or 4th one I started to try harder. this is when I really started to not feel good. I would start at the front and then as we ascended the hill I would get tired and slow down. I would breathe all heavy and not feel great and come back down. Bill told me to push up the hill so I tried as hard as I could. towards the end I thought I would throw up or pass out. so I took it easy on the way back. we finished the lap around and headed back. I ran with Olivia for the rest of the way. you know when you are so tired from running that you hit the stage where every little thing seems cool or funny? yeah i'm pretty sure that's where Olivia and i were. we had some good conversations, and Olivia pointed out a huge leaf that seemed really cool at the moment. I'm glad she kept me going. It was around 6 miles.

Today was a race in draper. For a warm-up i think we did a mile. I could tell that this race was gonna be a hard one just running the warm up. It was really windy and had lots of hills. I wasn't feeling too great either. So for the race there were lots of people their (even adults, which I wasn't used to). It was a really tough race. I can't remember my time, but I know it was really bad, but I guess the wind and hills affected everybody. Overall in the females I got 10th, and in my age division (11-15) I got 2nd. I won a pumpkin pie! the first place people got turkeys. I really enjoyed the pie!

1st track thing today. We ran (excuse me, sprinted) a block lap around East. We did squats, lunges, sit-ups, planks, balancing things, all that type of stuff in the Weight room. Then the cross country people went out for the actual run. I ran 20 minutes up Sunnyside and back. We got to about where this is the place heritage park is, up just a little further. So probably I got to 4 miles for the day.

Today we ran to sugarhouse. I tried to stay up with the group. I stayed up with them all the way until we got to sugarhouse. then I started to fall behind. I did a lap around. The faster group went somewhere else and did 10 miles. I didn't want to. I tried to keep up with Annie, Sam and Jesse, but they were going too fast. I was the first one to fall behind, but I could tell Jesse was tired too. She still is amazing, even with her hip. She started to lag off a bit as well, but she was still in front of me (way to go Jesse!) Maggie was up there too. she was going at around my pace maybe a little faster, but she kept me going, even though she was on the other side of the street. (thanks maggie!) then she went off somewhere along the way and so did annie and sam, so when I got back it was just me and Dakota, then Maggie turns up in her car (?????) then Sam and Annie come back and say they went somewhere with lots of hills and all that stuff. Maggie it turned out went home and drove to East. 6 miles.

So today seemed easier at first but then got harder. we ran up to the track and did lap around w/ 50 m butt kicks? and strides (50 m), then benches where we ran up and down the stairs on the bleachers, and started another lap, each varied with butt kicks, lunges, high knees, grapevine, walking on toes, power skip type things, skipping? with a little stutter, and that stuff (all 50 m and strides after for 50 m). Then we went over to the hill with the big K on it and sprinted up it and waked backwards down, turned around and jogged back to the start. we did those 10 times. then we went up to sunnyside and did 2 big laps around and came back. I was tired going up there so I ran slow and I missed a light, so I was with Patrick and Caden at the light. I was gonna run with them but they didn't want to run, so I was by myself. I saw them running later though (good job!). I so wanted to quit and just walk, but I didn't. I probably should've run faster, but I didn't have much energy. I'm just glad I finished. When we got back to East, we did a lap around the field to make it 7.

So today was a track day, so we did the track stuff first. We ran to the track, ran 2 laps around the track, and did some circuits. we did the walk out and back in and twist things, jump squats, strides, lunges up a hill, strides up a hill, and burpies. yep i was not feeling it. My knees were hurting me soooooo bad! I just tried to get through the workout. It felt like I was out of shape, which I guess I was. I didn't run on thursday-sunday. (I never run on sundays so ya.) Sarah Bischoff told me that it could be my quads and that they get weak way fast when you don't run and they hold your knee caps in place or something like that so it probably is that. She said wall sits should help. Bill just told me to take ibuprofen and an ice bath, so I'll see how that goes. I hope I will be okay for footlocker. (Only 2 more days!!! yay!!! I am soooooo excited beyond belief! I plan to get top 30 or better in my race, so we'll see how it goes!) So for the run I ran 20 minutes with Sarah, Abigail, Patrick, and Kevin. It was killer for my knees!! Man I am never gonna do that again. that was stupid of me. :( I just hope that it didn't screw up footlocker too bad. I'll work my hardest the next 2 days to see if that will be enough. I'm mad at myself now. grrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!! whatever I will get 1st place!!!! jk i don't know if that'll be possible. yes it will! no it won't. I'm kinda at war with myself right now. I should definately try though!!! maybe I'll P. R. It seems like it's a tough race though so that's unlikely. I'll just do my best and hope something good happens! ya so I ran up to the track from the school to get my stuff, and that added another 1/2 mile to the 4 miles that Abigail told me we did. i am sooooo excited!!!!!!!!

Today we drove to California for Foot Locker!!! We stopped in St. George and did a 4 mile run. I was feeling great  on the way out, but i had started earlier than the faster group so i was in front of them, and when they passed I started crashing. It sucked on the way back, but i never thought i would be glad to get back on the bus after the long drive, and it was about the half way point. but i survived!

today we checked out the course for the race tomorrow. It seems pretty hard, but honestly I was thinking it was gonna be so much harder. Im glad we walked it. we ran the last 1/2 mile, and im really glad we did! (I forgot my running shoes back at the hotel and i was wearing shoes that were not at all close to being meant for running) Then we went to the beach and it was so much fun! we made an A-hole and called it dopetopia and I ran all along the shore picking up seaweed for the outer wall of it. The tide was getting way high, and it was beginning to flood dopetopia. I ran probably more than a mile there, but I will just count it as 1. It ended up as 1 1/2 miles for the day.

So the race was today. I was not able to get a warm up in because we were the second race and we were almost late. I got on the starting line and did a few strides. In the race I was somewhat towards the front in the beginning. I crashed at the switchbacks and walked a tiny bit. I wish I didn't. I picked it up when I saw scott yelling at me at the bottom of poop-out hill. He was encouraging me and I got motivated again. I ran as hard as I could for the rest of the race knowing that a really long downhill awaited me. Bill was not there for most of it because he was running his own race, but right at the end he was there just before we turned to head onto the track, and lots of people were telling me to kick right then. I knew better. After state I was not gonna kick too soon again. I knew we still had the track to run, and I waited until I got on it. Then people were yelling at the girl running next to me and told her to start kicking, and i was scared she was gonna beat me, so I sprinted as fast as I could for the last 300 meters and passed 5 girls. It felt great!!! I was feeling really crappy and I noticed all of the people in front of me and thought my dreams were crushed until a guy asked me if i was a freshman and I said yes and he handed me a medal! I felt so good after that! The race sucked, but it was worth it! I ran a small cool down with Olivia and ended up with 4.5 miles. We went to disneyland after that and it was a party! we sang in the lines and I loved the rides!! it was a day to remember!

Track day at the oval. We ran  the usual 4 lap warm up 4 lap speed changes, and then we did drills around the track: high knees, butt kicks, A skips, power skips, and strides. Then we did a tempo run. After 2 laps I couldn't breathe, probably because of my cold. I went off to the side and cooled off a bit and talked to Sarah Bischoff, and then tried some more. I managed 2 laps before I couldn't breathe again. I went to the bikes and biked with Sarah for like 10 minutes. 5.5 miles.
