Decided not to run in the morning because I was up late last night doing homework. Since Fridays are my easy days I did a quick 35 minutes at 6:40 pace on the treadmill. It is way to cold to get a good workout outside.

First run of the day was an easy 30 minutes on the treadmill. It felt great going 8:00 pace. I didn't even have any issues with my calve or groin. The icing must be helping! :-)

Second run was a bit tougher. And by a bit I mean a lot. I went an hour on the treadmill around 7:00 pace and by 40:00 I was feeling it. Thankfully I've been training through long tough runs like that for nearly a month now. So I actually felt the same right before I finished as I did 20 minutes earlier. I feel like my aerobic base training phase is going great! Will probably switch over to hills sometime mid-january.

Bad news is that my groin was giving me some trouble after I was done. I don't feel it too much while running because I don't have to lift my knees very high, but now I just expect pain whenever I'm doing something that involves lifting my knee up high like putting pants on. ha

Googling groin streches NOW.

Also, as I wrap up this week I'd like to say that it's been very succesful. It's just two minutes away from being the most I've ran timewise all training season. And running time is what I've been shooting for instead of distance for my aerobic base phase. 6.5 hours of running total... and I'm feeling pretty good ;-) Hope to start running two-a-days more next week.

Rest day. I told myself I would go easy 30 minutes on the treadmill today but my body decided to take a nap instead. I'm not too worried about missing a workout today, though. I think a day of rest drops my chance of injury by quite a bit. And I would not want to get a nagging injury during training that carries over to the track season. Tomorrow I start two a days all week except on my hour and a half run days.

A.M. Dragged myself out of bed to do 4 on the treadmill before school. The only thing I enjoy about morning treadmill runs is that I get to wear my short shorts, which aren't very fashionable in the cold or at school. But man are they comfortable.

P.M.  8 more miles on the treadmill after school. I picked the random setting thinking it would be like a fartlek run, but instead it turned out to be like running up a giant hill with hardly any flat. It felt a lot like running up Jump Off Joe, and my pace fell from 7:00 to 7:30 then down to 8:00 after a while. I think random is comparable in difficulty to the hill setting. It's that tough.

That nap yesterday took a chunk out of my sleeping time too. But it helped so much that I felt like I would have been fine with only 5 hours of sleep.

A.M. 30 minutes easy on the treadmill. About 3.75 miles

P.M. Another 30 minutes. Workout got cut short because they kicked everybody out of the cardio room early. Maybe 4.5, around there.

A.M. 4 miles easy on the treadmill. Okay, so I lied. I ran in the morning on my long workout day. So what?! :P I wanted to make up for those miles I missed yesterday.

P.M. An hour of hills on the treadmill about 8:00 pace. That was around 7.5 miles. Then I did 30 minutes on the flat at 6:50'ish.  That was 4.25.

Well after deriving the quadratic formula in my head, I figured that I was on pace for over 70 miles this week. And once I found the square root of pi, I figured that a 20 mile mileage jump from week 4 to 5 was a wee bit too much. So I'm going to cut my rest days down to 8 miles, instead of the usual 10 I do on those days. Seem like enough? I have a rest day every other day.

P.M. 5.25 at 6:40 pace. Apparently nobody at our school uses the weight room after school on Fridays so coach came over and opened it for us for 30 minutes.

One LSD run of 12 miles on the treadmill in about 1:32. It felt really great, way easier than previous long runs I've done in the 12-14 mile range. But I guess that's because I was only averaging 7:45 pace for the whole thing.

Hoping to get at least 60 miles for this week.

Snow day!

A.M. 4 on the treadmill. It's nice when you don't have to wake up at 5:30 for these runs.

P.M. 4 more. This was a recovery day for me. I also read a lot of interesting stuff about visualization today. You should check out the topic sometime too.

Well I gave up today :P

In the morning I ran 3 miles super super easy.... almost a walk. haha

The rest of the day was filled with practice for tomorrows piano recital and driving to Wallula for no reason at all, then some pizza eating. So no 10 mile run like I had planned.

That's alright though, I got the same mileage as I've been getting all month.

And Tyler, or anyone else, if you're reading this I checked out letsrun.com and asked a question on the forum boards about how I'm training. I got a lot of detailed responses, even one from that coach you were talking about, if you want to read about it http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=3348595

Super easy run around town. Just getting in some miles and testing out my heart rate monitor that came with my watch. I got it up to 103% before I fixed my maximum heart rate setting.

Ran an easy 6.5 with Tyler and Austin today. I did not feel good at all, and I blame the giant bowl of milk and cereal I had an hour before and the 300 foot ascent in the first mile. They don't build hills like those into treadmills, and my heart rate was stuck at 85% of my max for the rest of the run. It actually got slower the more I ran, so I guess that's a sign that I wasn't just out of shape and had wasted a month and a half of training.

10 miles with Tyler at 6:40 pace. My watch actually turned off for a mile and a half strech before I realized it wasn't tracking my distance anymore. I measured it out in Google Earth later and it turned out to be the same distance as how far it took me to run to the meet up point for our run. So it all worked out in the end. It might have confused Tyler though. I think I accidentally told Tyler he had a mile more than we actually ran.

1.5 down to the meet up point then we headed towards the hills to meet Tyler after he slept in late. Did 6.5 there along a farm trail. It was COLD, and I'm glad that I won't be doing any more runs here for a week. Hopefully spring will decide to come in January, I think that would be nice.

Now I'm off to run some warm San Diego running trails! Woohoo!

4 miles in the morning. It's been a lot harder to find time to run during vacation then I thought. You have to wake up at 6 after a day of hardcore touristing. Hopefully I can get at least 20 miles this week.
