| | Didn't get up before work, so I ended up running after. It was pretty warm but not as bad as I had anticipated it being. The path under Washington is finally clear of water again so I was able to run the parkway without being on the road as much. Not too many people on the parkway, maybe they are walking earlier or later now. Did not see any of my regulars. 6.16 miles - 54:55

I had a wonderful run after work today, it was not to warm. I did the lower part of the parkway, around the pond then to the underpass at 21st. But it's locked there because of water. The water has receded but the path is covered in mud, I guess they will open the gates when they get it cleaned up. I lapped the pond a couple of times so I could get 8 miles.
laps: 8:48, 8:46, 8:38, 8:45, 8:26, 8:40, 8:56, 8:57
So after my run my hubby decided we needed to hike Malan's Peak. He is trying to get into better shape and for some reason I need to go with him. So I know this is not leagally running miles. But if any of you know this hike it is about 2 miles to the top and about 7-9% grade. It is STEEP!And it was hard... I'm tired. But I figured this would be good for me because my last leg of Wasatch Back is 4 miles at a 7.6% grade. It had been sprikling a bit the entire hike. It was fun watching the lighting and hearing the thunder roll around the canyon. When we were about 50 yards to the car, the sky opened up and it was like buckets pouring on us for a couple of minutes.. I got soaked, but by the time we were down the street it stopped. That's weather in Utah :) |

| | So I took it slow today, but I probably should not have gone as long as I did because I felt pretty tired and my legs felt heavy and slow . The middle probably felt the best. I have not seen any of my regulars at the parkway. I'm thinking they are going later or earlier then me now. Today there was a guy with no shirt on that was rrrrrripped (rolling my r's) Most of the time I'm all for proper coverage in public, but he was a nice distraction. I was glad I had to pass him twice LOL. I'm thinking he was between 45-50 years of age, had a head full of gray hair. Then just as I was towards the end of the parkway there was a dad and little girl, I'd say she was about 6. She had the most beautiful color of red hair I have seen in a long time. As I passed her and looked at her she also had creamy ivory skin and light eyes. So cute. One of those times I wish I had a camera. 7 miles - 1:04:39 AP-9:15

| | Hmmmm I was tired tonight. I probably should have took the night off. Oh well, just did a few short slow miles on the parkway, tonight was probably the hottest I have felt so far. That could have contributed to feeling so slow. Saw a few of the regulars, the middle aged daughter with her parents and dog. And the old guy with the Willy Nelson hair, It was weird tonight because all of the other times I see him and his partner. He was wearing a hat, with his braid hanging down the back. Tonight he did'nt have his hat on, and had barrete's holding back the sides of his hair. Just struck me as weird... seemed a bit feminen. No shirtless hot guy... just a shirtless guy that I wished would have kept his sirt on. After my run hubby and I did a bit of weights and abs together. 4.05 miles 37:22 AP: 9:13

| | Ran the parkway after work. Not many people to night. It was a nice run, I have had some serious mental issues with running the past few days. Don't really know what it's about, maybe I need to set some new goals to help with it. Anyway I really was not wanting to run, but after the first mile I felt better. Did the weird jumping and I think a small scream when a snake, that I thought was a stick on the path, was right under my feet. Thank heavens no one was around to see me doing a weird jumpy flappy arm thing LOL 6.14 miles - 54:56 AP: 8:57

| | Ran trails with my running girlfriend. I think because she was injured all last summer she now wants to run the trails all the time. We started down at the rainbow gardens resturant, right at the mouth of the canyon. Then we went up the trails behind there... it added about a mile on to our regular route. I think this will be a regular route for a while the add more after that. It was a pretty nice run. Now off to all the chores that need to get done this weekend :) 9.07 miles - 1:47:53 AP: 11:54 Man I'm sooooo slow at trail running :(

Could not sleep well last night. We watched a movie that I think caused me to have some weird sleep. It was a good movie, I can't remember the name right now, it has the guy that has been the last 007. He was a jew that helped his brothers and about 200 other jews live in the forrest to get away from the Nazi's. Anyway I was up early so I decied to go for a run. Got in a few miles, felt pretty good, had a bit of tummy trouble towards the end, so it was good that I didn't run any farther. I will probably get a few more after work.
5:00am - 3.50 miles - 31:18
laps: 9:18, 9:11, 8:26, 8:49 After work, I ran 5 miles on the parkway. As I was passing the skatepark I was looking over at the kids there, I always do because I know sometimes my son and some of his friends will still go down and skate board some, and sure enough there was my son waving at me :) After I was done we meet up so I could drive him home. He had been biking all over today. 5 miles - 42:44 AP- 8:33

| | Well today was my hap-hazard attempt at trying to do some fartlek training. After seeing Carolyn's run today I thought I would give it a try. So I ran to the 21street pond. 2 mile warm-up then I have heard that it is 1 mile around the pond. I think it's slightly more though. So My feeble brain was trying to add the 25 sec. onto the time as I was running anticipating that I would need to pick-up the pace, and I never seemed to get it right LOL I swear it should not be this hard. I ended up doing 3 laps around the pond. The I turned back and my garmin was at 5.11 miles. So here I dicided to run up the hill at a good pace. I ran up it three times... at the top of the last time my garmin was at 6.00 miles exactly. Then I ran back to my car. Definatly not as planned or organized as it should be... but I felt pretty good with it. :) 7.62 miles - 1:06:44 Laps: 8:55, 8:58, 8:32, 8:37, 8:49, 8:21, 8:59, 8:58

I knew that I needed to get a run in before work, but I still pooped around a bit and got a later start then I should have. I don't know if it was my run last night, or the turn around from running in the late afternoon to running in the morning, or maybe the combination of both. But my legs were very tired! Also had a weird pain, kinda sharp in my left heel for the first 1/4 of a mile. The middle 1/2 miles or so was about the only part of this run that felt OK. I still packed my gym bag, but I have a Dr. App. after work in SLC, so will see if I have time to get any more running in. DH wants to hike Malan's Peak again, so I might be doing that. I told him as long as it's not raining too much. I can handle running in the rain, but hikeing those reall steep hills, gets a bit too slippery for me.

Didn't really have a plan to my run today, but it turned out to be pretty nice. There was only a few draw backs. 1. I forgot to pack socks so this was a bit weird to run without socks.. 2. With all the rain it has flooded the underpass at Wall ave. I didn't think it was too deep so I went for it. It was actually up to mid shin. So now I had no socks and slippy wet feet in my shoes. 3. At about the 4 mile mark I had tummy trouble. Due to the water under Wall ave. there was no one else on the path, so I thought I could do a potty break in the bushes. But I seem to have a mental block with this. Luckily there was a store that let me use their restroom. Tried to pick up the pace the last few blocks back to the car.
When I was running around the pond. I thought I saw a swan, but as I got closer to the side it was on I could see it was a pelican. I was very surprised. I know that there are some at the Great Salt Lake, but I never thought they would come this far north. It will be interesting to see if it's there again. Also there were two pretty little robin egg shells on the path, such a pretty color. I think they were just the pieces after the babies hatched.

I had over heard a few of the bikers at my work comment that they had extended the parkway path that is close to our work. So I decided to run it and see the new parts. I can run from the parking lot at my work, down a dirt/gravel/sand road and on an unused portion of railroad track. Once I past all that there is a paved path by the river. As soon as they get it over/under or around the said railroad tracks it will all connect to the other path that I run. All told when it's finished it should be over 20 miles of paved path. So nice not to have to deal with cars and streets. It was a pretty nice run. At one point along the path there are businesses close to it, one car dealer had a table with water on it for people on the path... good marketing I guess. I had some on my way back. There is one thing I find rather odd on the pathway. When they were doing some of the construction there was a huge tree that was right by the edge, so the cut it down but the stump was too big to pull out. So they had someone make a sculpture out of it. Now I think this is really neat, but I can't understand why they sculpted dolphins... the dolphins are standing on their tails, at first I thought they were penguins but as I pass I could see the dorsal fins. I just think it should have been some other animal or something. I mean you wouldn't see a dolphin swimming in the river. It just didn't make any sense to me.
Where they have added the new miles, goes through a ultimate freeze bee course. I think that is what it's call. I have ran down around there before and never see anyone. Tonight there had to be about 30 people all over the course. From what I could tell the course crossed the path a few times. I was worried I was going to get a disc the the back or side of my head LOL.
Sorry for the ramble.... pretty good run, but I felt more tired then I did yesterday 9:00 miles - 1:20:48 laps: 9:08, 8:45, 8:47, 8:51, 9:04, 8:36, 8:50, 8:43, 10:04

| | Today did not feel good!!! It was a rough run. I met my friend at her house and ran the parkway by her house... basically the same as I ran from work yesterday. I really do not feel well today. Every muscle from my waist down hurts... and I feel very fatigued. SUCKS!! I think my friend wanted to do more, but when I made her stop back at her house for me to potty, I just could not get going again. I hope I feel better before the WBR. 7 miles - 1:04:14

| | I had a massage after work, and because I'm still not feeling great I thought I would take it a bit easier today. I'm thinking of taking it easier this entire week since I will be running in the WBR Friday and Saturday. It's not alot of miles, I think my legs total about 16-17, but it's the not sleeping well and stuff that I know will get to me. Lately even with good sleep I have not been doing so good. Anyway just did an easy 5 at the gym. 9:30 average. |

Hair brush
Ponytail holders (again with my hair control)
Chap Stick
Eye drops (I have very dry eyes)

Sleeping bag
Towel
Washcloth
Soap/shampoo/conditioner
Money (Needed for food, shower, cot you can rent at HS)
Chocolate milk
Almonds
Jerky
Oranges
Garmin
Ipod
Headlight (your team should provide headlamps and safety vests)
Water bottle
Spray bottle (Feels good when you are hot and running to have people spray you a bit)
Stuff to decorate your car/truck
Silly string to spray at other runners…cow bells to ring…other wacky stuff you can think of. And maybe your cell phone.
Hmmm can't think of anything else right now but if I do I will update the list. ** added items to my list: Ibuprophine or favorite pain meds, and ear plugs, maybe they will help with the sleep? Not my best run tonight... everything is feeling stiff and heavy. I really hope this is not how things will be this weekend. Did my regular loop at the parkway, seen a few of the regular people. Weather was comfortable but maybe a bit too warm. I'm planning on about 5 miles tomorrow and hoping for some good sleep the rest of the week :) 7.44 miles - 1:05:58 average pace 8:52

Wasatch Back Relay (3.33 Miles) 00:47:53 | | So I don't have the official times for our team, these were just taken from my Garmin. We got the the first exchange and waited about 2 hours for van 1 to show. Apparently team 1 was a father and his 5 daughters. Some of the girls had flown in from out of town. They went to dinner the night before and 3 of the six were throwing up at 2 inthe morning. So they were having a very difficult time! I guess the dad at one point passed out. We were worried that they would hot be able to do it. I was runner #9 our team was Running is for Criminals. So I got to start my firt leg at approximaely 2 in the afternoon. It was getting pretty warm up in the valley but a very pretty day. This was a pretty good run... I tried to pass this older guy as I was coming up to the exchange but didn't quite get him :( Considering the way I had been feeling the past few weeks I felt happy with my effort on this leg. laps: 8:00, 8:21, 8:35, last.33 8:27 Continued on Saturday

Well I had this all figured and ready, was about to put my lap time in for my last leg and found out my Garmin was dead. Then my entry was not saved and I could find it. Hmm I will try to redo it all for you. Second Run: started at about 2:00am was a great night nice a cool. But last year the moon must have been fuller, we just had a tiny fingernail sliver, so I could not see the see the water that I was running around as well as I remembered it last year. Some rolly hills through out this run. Felt good and passed numerous runner during this portion. The first one I passed was the older gentleman I could not catch on the first leg. :) Victory!! 9.43 Miles - laps: 9:04, 8:42, 8:55, 8:54, 9:14, 8:59, 8:53, 8:57, 8:52, (last 43 - 9:02) Third leg: The hill I had been dreading! I got to start my last run at about noon, and by now there was a steady rain. So I put on the jacket I had brought and started off. About 1/2 a mile into my run I realized that I was too warm, so I started to take off my jacket. In my sleep deprived state I somehow got my sleeve caught around my Garmin on one wrist and my ipod on my other. I looked like I was in some sort of a straight jacket. After struggling for a few seconds looking like a complete idiot, I turned back to the runner behind me and asked for a hand. He was kind enough to walk with me a bit and help me out of the situation. I could hear my Garmin beeping in protest as we were trying to figure out how to get my jacket off me. So I think some of my times might not be accurate, but I'm sure it's not too far off. Passed my jacket off to the van when I caught up to then and marched on. I was happy to be able to pass a few people on this leg! About 20 yards to the finish I saw Smooth... gave her a hug... she told me to get going I was almost finished, but it was so fun to see a blogger there. Got to the finish and my team mate gave me a big hug and squoze the last bit of breath I had in my lung LOL. Smooth cheered me on, she even took my picture! When I got back to my van they had ice cream waiting for me... what a team. 3.57 miles Laps: 9:46, 12:51, 14:14, (.57 - 15:03) Those are some sloooooowww miles LOL how embarrasing!

| | My plan tonight was slow and easy. I ran down the parkway, but there is still water under Wall Ave. I didn't feel like running with wet feet again so I turned around and ran up... It was a nice run I only did the funny snake dance once (saw a snake right at my feet, thought it was a stick until it moved) As I was coming back down the parkway my pace was probably too fast for my easy run, I think I should have been a bit slower, I guess will see how it effects my runs for this week. 5.37 miles - 48:03 laps: 9:10, 9:01, 9:02, 8:44, 8:48, (last .37 8:50) |

Mornings are the worst time for me, everything hurts, and I feel stiff. After work is getting so hot now, so I really hope I can start feeling better in the mornings. Tonight was pretty uneventful... took it slow again, I think my average pace was around 9:30.

| | Tonight was HOT. The temperature thing in my car said 91 when I was driving home. I don't know how accurate they are, but it felt really hot. I was just planning on running the parkway again but when I got to the top I thought I would run the dirt trail until my garmin read 4 miles so that I would end up with 8, but when I got to that point curiosity took over and I wanted to see when the path was going to end. It's a pretty nice path and I will probably run it again. I was pretty slow on some of the hills when I was on the trail. Between miles 7-8 I thought I would try to pick up my pace... I was hoping to keep it at a 8mm but I didn't make it :( I will try this again another day also. By the end of this run I was pretty hot and tired! 8 miles - 1:22:10 laps: 8:56, 8:49, 8:44, 9:15, 11:03, 9:20, 8:41, 8:19, 8:59

The plan was to run in the morning because I had so much going on after work. But I didn't even hear the alarm go off... So I ran on my lunch break. It was not too bad, but I got rather hot! Thank heavens there is a shower at work. Was hoping that I would get 6 miles in, but I needed to stop at every potty along the route (good thing they were open this time) and so I was getting way too long, time wise, for a lunch run. Took it pretty easy, besides the tummy issuse I felt pretty good, I hope there is a little speed saved up for tomorrows 5K.

Pleasnt View Founders Day 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:25:18, Place overall: 54, Place in age division: 1 | |
My friend came to my house and we ran the Pleasant View Founders Day 5K. I was not expecting a big turn out but was surprised to see about 300 runners. I will have to update the report when the official results are posted. I don't know my overall place. But I was very happy to see that I was first!!! in my age group. Man I can't remember the last time that happened, it might even be the first time that as happened!! I think there were 8 ladies in my age group... the really great thing is I smoked the second place lady by I think 2 minutes... like I said when the official results are posted I will let you know for sure. Then Sue and I ran around pleasant View for another 4.5 miles. Just took it nice and easy... then had the breakfast in the park... Nice start to my weekend! Have a great weekend bloggers!!! ** Updates I was the 54th runner out of 271. I had estimated about 300 so I was pretty close. When I looked at the offical results I beat the second place lady by 4:33... maybe they were just not trying ?

| | Could not get myself out of bed this morning AGHHHH I swear I really need to because it was 97 degrees when I left work, without even a stitch of a breeze. I ended up running on the treadmill, I know this is bad... but I can zone out for an hour and then it's done! Had a bad weekend after the race. We had to put down our old dog. We had her for about 14 years. I don't think my youngest daughter can remember life without her. She was my first trail running buddy and so far the best dog we have owned to run with. I was really hoping she would make it through the summer, but it became very clear ealier this week that she was not doing well. So after my race, my husband convinced me it was not good to keep her going on this way. I guess she always loved winter better... she hated the hot weather, she was big and black. So sad, my two youngest 19 and 16 were so sad, and still are. 6.48 miles - 60 minutes average pace 9:22

| | Ran the parkway after work... it was pretty hot, but I did better then I thought I would. Maybe I'm starting to acclimate to the heat. As I was running on the trail, I noticed some magazine pages on the trail, when I looked down I was shocked... they were pages from a porno mag. I ran around picking up about 3 or so pages within about ten yards of the path. There was a garbage can within 1/8 of a mile and I disposed of them there and hurried to the bathroom that was close by to was my hands... LOL. There are lots of little kids walking with their families down there, I can't believe no one else picked them up! Also I seen my regulars (little old couple with middle age daughter and dog) I was so glad they didn't see them... the little old lady reminds me of my mom. I seen one other friend and ended up stopping and talking with him and his wife for a while. 7.1 miles - 1:02:56 laps: 8:50, 8:55, 9:12, 8:52, 8:42, 8:41, 8:55, 8:20
