| | Got a late start at my run this morning. I have not been feeling to well. But i finally put on my shoes, with the hope that it would not be a bad run... No such luck :( I had sharp pains in my calf for the first 50 or so steps, then it mellowed to a dull ache. By about the mile mark it was dull enough not to bother me too much. Then around mile 3 my legs felt heavy and tight, all in all not the best first run for 09. Hopefully it will get better from there. 5.51 miles - 50:31

| | So because the shin was buggin all day after my run I thought I better not push my luck so I went to the gym and did body pump class (hour long weight lifting class) I have not done it in a looonng time, so it kicked my tush. Then I did 30 minutes on the eliptical. I'm getting bummed about my running... hope I can recover to do the winter training series. |

| | So I talked my sweet hubby into snow shoeing with me this morning, but when we got to the trail it was already so packed that we just ended up hiking for about five miles. I was still very stiff from the weight lifting :( but we had a pretty fun time. The temp thing in my car said it was 6 degrees. We felt OK until the wind kicked up at the end. My plan for the upcoming week it to work out on the eliptical instead of running :( Hoping that my shin will stop bugging. I go back to the Dr. in a week so if it's not better by then I guess we'll see what he thinks is happening.

Today was 5 miles on the eliptical... 50 minutes, boring but hopefully this is helping my shin :)
FYI - I was keeping track of my miles on an excel spreadsheet that I had made up before and after I joined the FRB, so in 07 I had a total of 1,322.97 miles. In 08 I had a total of 1,852.45, that is a difference of 529.48 miles :) I have to say I think it's pretty cool. I'm a bit sad that I didn't make it to 2,000 miles that would have been even better, maybe I should set that as my 09 goal - 2009 miles in 09 :)

Had a horrible nights sleep. I don't know what is up this week but I'm really starting to feel the effects of my lousy sleep. I went to the doctor after work and he basically told me that I could run but if it started hurting, during or after my run to back off and cross train a bit more, then try running again in a few days. So I ran on the treadmil after my appointment, and it felt OK. I didn't want to do the eliptical so I was happy that for the most part my shin didn't hurt. I will continue to ice and stretch and all the things that I should have been doing anyway.

| | I had a massage today after work so I got to the gym rather late. I just did 4 miles on the eliptical, I wanted to run, but I thought I better not push my luck. I'm hoping my shin feels goo tomorrow and I will run outside, I hope to get 6-8 miles. Keep your finger crossed for me. I'm about to sacrifice my favorite running shorts, you know we all have one pair that make us feel good, and look cute on us, to the running Gods. Let's hope it dosen't come to that :)

| | Today's run was very hard, seemed like I had to put alot of effort into everything about it. I don't know if it's because I have been cross training quite a bit in the past two weeks, or if it's because it's the first road run I've had in the two weeks, or maybe the new thyroid meds. either way it felt very hard!!! I also have not been sleeping very well. I was hoping this year to do better at the WRC, to maybe even be in the top three of my age group, but I'm not feeling very hopful of that after this run, I guess I'll see what the next few weeks bring. 8 miles - 1:13:59 Best pace 7:21 Average Pace 9:14

| | Slept a bit better, but had weird dreams about my friend that passed away a few years ago. Ran at the gym after work, it's starting to stay lighter after work now so if my shins hold out, I might try to do my run on the roads around work. Today was not to bad though. 6 miles - 55:02

| | Crap I just lost my entire entry :( so I will try this again. I ran 2 on the eliptical and 3 on the treadmil. Shin started bugging, I think I did too much on the road this weekend. I need to take it easy, because I entered the Winter Racing Circuit and the first race is in a couple of weeks. My goal this year was to place in the top three in my age group, I hope I can do this. |

| | Had a horrible nights sleep, I really hope the new thyroid meds. start helping soon. It's like I'm super tired, but my muscles won't relax, I'm all tight. Anyway I ran on the treadmil for 4 miles then a brisk walk for one more mile. I think tomorrow I will be on the eliptical, shin was pretty buggy :(

| | So this has been a difficult week for me, I'm really hoping that soon I can start feeling better. My running friend is finally getting back into some running since her pelvic fractures, and I really hope she will be running the roads with me soon. But today we, Sue and I, along with our husbands snow shoed one of my favorite trails to run on. It was a blast! Being able to work out a bit with Sue again gave me a short of sunshine into my gloomy weeks that I have been having :) |

| | Well 6 miles on the eliptical machine... very hard to do, I wanted to quite at about 4 miles but I hung in for 6 :) I got a patch thing from the doctor today for my shin. You put it on for 12 hours then off for 12. It's supposed to be anti-inflamitory cross your fingers that this will help :) |

| | Well 6 more miles on the eliptical.... I wore the patch for the first time today. Shin felt very very good when I was on the eliptical, so I'm hoping it is working. I think I will take it a bit easy for a couple more days... then see how running on the treadmill feels. |

| | So I didn't have too much time tonight, had a doctor app. after work. Did three miles on the elpitical, then 1 1/2 on the treadmill. This is the first running in a week!! Shin felt pretty good. Keep your fingers crossed :) |
Night Sleep Time: 8.00 | Nap Time: 0.00 | Total Sleep Time: 8.00 |

| | Ran 3.25 on the treadmill then added two more miles on the eliptical. Trying to take it slow so and not overdue it on my shin. Iced the shin after my run and it's four days with the patches. So far my shin is feeling a bit better. On a side note had a much better nights sleep then I have had for quite a while. I hope I can do this more often. |

| | So today was not a good day for me, I went to the gym in the hopes of getting 8 miles in. The plan was...run four, do some upped body weights, then run four, but I got back on the treadmill, and only got two more in, legs were very tight and just felt very run down. |
Night Sleep Time: 9.00 | Nap Time: 0.00 | Total Sleep Time: 9.00 |
| |
| | Things felt better today... not quite as heavy and stiff in my legs, shin didn't hurt much at all. Did 6 miles on the treadmill. I think if everything keeps going good, I'll try getting out on the road later this week. 5 must be my lucky number today because I ran the miles in 55:55 :)

| | Today was not a good day, I don't understand what is going on. I have been feeling better, but today when I was running I was super stiff, sore and heavy legged. | | Well I got 5 miles on the treadmill... legs felt a bit better but just a little, I tried this warming ointment that the Natural Health place gave me, and I think it helped with the stiff tightness a bit. Then I did one more mile on the eliptical. |
Night Sleep Time: 8.00 | Nap Time: 0.00 | Total Sleep Time: 8.00 |

| | Didn't sleep very well last night... and didn't have a good run. things are still not feeling good. Ran 2 on the treadmill, then did 3 on the eliptical, then I was feeling pretty good so I thought I'd try 1 more mile... probably should not have done that.

| | Didn't sleep very well last night. But I did get out on the road this morning!!! YAhoooo! it felt pretty good, but it was probably the worst 10K time I've had in quite a while. :( It felt good to be out on the road, but I could't seem to get my pace... too fast them too slow, kind-of made my legs feel tight. Ran on the treadmil for 5, shin was buggin' a bit more then yesterday, but it was also the first time I ran with out it wrapped. Been trying to find some kind of compression thing for my calve so I don't have to wrap it all the time, because it bothers me a bit. Anyway not bad all in all I'm happy with my progress.

| | Well I Ran the parkway tonight, but when I started my garmin it somehow didn't get a a satalite so all it did was time me. Duh!! I parked in the parking lot of Peak Performance running store, owed by Anthony Gallegos, one of the nicest people you would want to know. Any way he told me that the mileage was about 5.4 miles because he had run it earlier this week with his garmin. He aslo let me borrow his calf compression sleeve, it's just like the ones that I orded, it helped quite a bit with my calf. :) 5.4 miles - 49:22

| | So today I thought it would be a good run... but somewhere it turned into a crappy one. It wasn't my shins as much as my calves. They were painfully tight, I felt like I had to stop and stretch them about every mile. I was trying my best to do a mid heel strike so that my shins didn't hurt... that seems to help. Anyway after I finished I got terrible cramps and some slight nausea. Think I'll head to bead early. I have a massage scheduled for tomorrow so I hope that will help my calves. 6.2 miles - 1:00:49 Best - 7:43 - this had to be a fluke - or maybe it was just for a few seconds. Winter Racing Circuit 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:29:14, Place overall: 293, Place in age division: 10 | | I'm disappointed in my race results, but not surprised. I knew that I had not been feeling well the past few months plus the added bonus of shin splints. Then on top of it all this is one of the hardest 5K courses I have ever run. John from Stiders, who puts on the race, jokes that it's a 5K that feels like a 10K. After seeing Nate (massage guy) last night my shin felt better then they have in at least a month, then my compression sleeves were in the mail last night so they were great to run with. I can just hope that I continue to feel better and better, slowly up my miles and the drop a few extra pounds. |

Didn't sleep very well last night. The plan was to park at the gym, do my run then go into the gym and do some weights, stretches and abs. So I have been having some emotional runs, don't know why but sometimes I just get teary. So I thought I might as well have a good reason to get emotional, so I ran to the cemetery were my friend is buried. 1.5 miles to his grave, had a good cry for a bit, then ran around the perimeter of the cemetery, and through all the cross streets for another mile or so. Then around the neighborhood. and back to the gym. All in all a pretty good run, a bit slower then yesterday. When I could finally pull myself together after his death the cemetery was my first run, in fact I think it was my first few runs. So it was kind-of nice to do it again. Makes me miss him alot though.

Thanks to all your wonderful advice here... and Carolyn's link I figured out that my easy runs needed to be much slower then what I was doing, and I think I will take Marion's advise and do some easy runs for a week or more to try and get feeling better.... So tonight I did 1 mile on the eliptical to warm-up then 5 miles on the treadmil, at 10:20 pace. After all this snow I wimped out for the treadmill.

Today was Parent Teacher Conference so I was planning to leave a little early but instead it was almost another hour earlier :) !!! Today was a beautiful, I parked at the gym, then ran around the city... My husband and son don't like me doing this... afraid I'm in bad areas, but I have black pants, red jacket, blue hat, green ipod, so don't I cover all the gang affiliated colors? They should consider me like Swiss, I'm neutral :) The weather was perfect, sky was bright blue. It was great! I had to really concentrate on making it an easy run. I wanted to keep at about the same pace I was yesterday, but I had to really make myself slow down. Shin bugged a bit towards the end but nothing real bad. I will ice it tonight. 6.11 miles - 1:01:16 laps, 9:51, 9:42, 9:52, 9:51, 10:10, 10:31, 11:31 (lost of traffic at the end) Looks like I need to practice some negatice spilts like Marion :)

Winter Racing Circuit 10K (6.2 Miles) 01:01:17, Place overall: 300, Place in age division: 10 | | Well I felt pretty good about today's race until I looked at my time from last year. I'm 61/2 minutes slower then last year... AGHHH that sucks so bad! The race was pretty good, my main objective was to finish feeling good and that was accomplished, so in that fact I'm happy. Also I knew about all the hills so again my goal was to not have to walk too much on the hills. Mission accomplished again!! When I was almost to the top there was a guy pushing a jogging stroller that passed my on the down hill like I was standing still, so when I saw him running the big hill at the end I made the goal to pass him... and I did !!! So there were some very good things about it to. 7 miles - 1:08:59 splits: 9:41, 8:45, 9:30, 10:06, 10:58, 10:21, 9:34

Little bit of weights, lots of stretching, and that's all I wanted to do, maybe it's the gray day that's also got me in a funk.

| | Tonight was a pretty good run, there was one pretty bad thing, I forgot my sports bra. I was temped to go commando, I don't have much in that department, but I wore my regular one instead. I like running the parkway in Ogden now that the snow has melted off it. I usually run the upper half, more people are on that path, but the past few times I have run the lower part. It's pretty going around the 21st street pond, but tonight as I was going around the back something caught my attention and spooked me, it ended up being a few deer. Then about a mile later I was coming around a corner and I could see something by a tree. I thought it was a person but as I got to it... it was just a bag someone hung on the tree. I figured I'd had enough spookiness so I turned around after that. Shins started to buggning the last little bit, I think I will take it easy tomorrow. 7 miles - 1:09:31 laps:9:47,9:50,9:46, 10:00,10:01, 10:14, 9:52

It felt good to be able to plod along at my snail speed :) I didn't have to stop and walk any hills! I ran the entire time! I can't tell you how good that felt, it's been so long since I've felt this good on a long run. 10:09 - 1:41:33 laps: 10:14, 10:11, 9:40, 10:02, 10:32, 10:20, 10:02, 9:51, 10:11, 9:39, 10:03

| | Tonight was just to be just an easy run, and I did pretty well, got my pace a bit fast when I was around the pond again... spooked about crazy deers. Also I don't think my lunch of chocolate covered pretzels was helping my run too much either. LOL But man they were so good. Sweet and salty crunchy and chocolatey MMMM. 5.5 miles - 55:25 laps: 9:54, 10:09, 10:00, 10:03, 10:03, 10:35

I knew that I needed to run before work today, but I wasn't certain I would be able to do it. But when my alarm went off. I layed there and heard Sno's mantra "Don't think just go" I got up and dressed..."Don't think just go" "Don't think just go" I was out the door by 4:50 AM yep... the AM can you believe it!! After about a mile warm-up I got to a hill that when I read Carolyn's blog about hill sprints thought it might be a good one.... so I ran down and as I got to the bottom, in the street light checked my time and then ran back up. I did 3 hill sprints (don't think at my speed they can be considered sprints though) about 45-47 seconds on the hill. The run felt prettty good, I need to get new batteries for the head light if I'm going to continue in the mornings. Couldn't really track my pace too much because I could only see my garmin when I was under a street light. Don't know if this will be an every morning thing yet... but it is nice to be done with my run. Need to get some more sleep tonight .
My sisters are coming to my house tonight for some fun artsy stuff!

| | My DH has never really had to do much to stay fit. He is a UPS driver so his job keeps him walking all day. But as we have aged he has put on a few pounds. We have made a goal to together help each other with some fitness goals. It's good for me because he dosen't buy the junk food like he used too. Also it's good for me because he gets me to do more weight training ( I don't really like it). Anyway tonight we went to the gym together. I did 5 miles on the eliptical and some weights with him. It was a nice date night :) The plan it to do 11.5 tomorrow so I will have a 40 mile week. Wish me luck! |

| | I got a late start today...but I did get some better sleep so I think that helped. My right shoe has been getting a hole inside the heel. It was bugging the other day, so I taped up the hole with some cloth tape, well that did not help, in fact it made it worse! I have a big bloody heal now :( Also I need to start taking gels or something with me on my longer runs, my breakfast only lasted til about mile ten.

| | Not a good start to the week.... I did not sleep well last night, then I put shoes on for the first time since getting the lovely blister on my heel and man... it hurt.... also I don't know if it was because of running weird to compensate for the pain in my heel, but my back was hurting pretty good when I got up this morning. It could have also been because I was out shoveling poo from the yard for at least an hour yesterday... ya that is a lovely job. Then to top it off we got a crap load of snow, and the start of DLS RRRRRR. I'm so grumpy it's scary. So I just did a bit on the eliptical... I"m going to bed and hope for a better day tomorrow. :) |

Felt pretty good during the run, I was thinking while I was running that I'm no were near where I need to be for all the races that I have signed up for. It makes me a bit sad to realize that I'm not going to do as well as I had hoped this year. Oh well... it is what it is. 7.02 miles - 1:08:25 laps: 9:43, 9:42, 10:02, 9:58, 9:37, 9:35, 9:35

| | Got some new shoes tonight... new Peal Isumi's. I like the old ones, was a bit disapointed that I didn't get more miles on them before I got the hole in the back. So I hope it was just a fluke. I like them but I can't afford to replace shoes that often. Nice run tonight, ran around the city a bit before I got on the parkway trail. Had to weave around a few blue hairs coming out of the temple. Then had a funny guy at the stop light, that started running with my for a bit... made me smile a little. All the ice is melted from the 21 street pond, it was very nice down there, and not attack deer to scare me this time. 6.4 miles - 1:01:50 laps: 9:32, 9:47, 9:41, 9:42, 9:51, 9:24, 9:22

Had a hard time getting up and moving today. Don't really know what was my problem. It was about 27 degrees when the race started... pretty chilly. Didn't start feeling good, until about mile 3. It was funny, an older lady passed me about at this point... I'd say she was in her mid 60's. The thing was she had perfect Farah Fawcett hair, all curled and every thing. I kept thinking to myself. "Did she get up early enough to do her hair'? I mean, I'm lucky if I brush my teeth let alone do my hair. And then another thing I was thinking... All these ladies that have entire outfits that match, right down to their socks, hat, sunglasses. You name it they are fashion devas! It bogges my mind. I'm hoping my socks match each other let alone my entire outfit Any way started feeling better just past mile 3, I think my breakfast and meds. had finally kicked in. The hills after mile 6 were rather anoiying, but I was able to pick up my pace the last mile and pass many of the people that I had be teetering back and forth with. Including Farah Fawcette LOL I think I passed her at mile 5. I don't know about you guys, but I have a hard time leaving it all on the road, if you know what I mean. I can't be totally spent for the rest of the day. My DH and family expect me to still be functioning. In fact I will be planting trees later today. Also I have noticed that when I leave myself feeling depleted I end up eating too much, I think I'm trying to get some energy back or something. Any way it's just not good for me. ** My husband and I know this couple, she works at my work and he works with my husband. My first impression of him was that he was very vain and self centered. My husband said he seemed like a pretty nice guy. Any way I found out yesterday (Monday) that he had been having a 7 month affair. When his wife found out and confronted him about it he did the whole "If you had been more" ____ fill in the blank, you know what I mean all the blaming excuses. When she wouldn't accept this and put a stop to it, he turned to his 14 year old daughter and said " If you had been a better kid I would not have gone out looking for another person" I was so angry I wanted to kick him hard in his man business! Having an affair is one thing, as painful and wrong as it is, it happens more then I even care to think about. But to blame a child that I'm sure is already feeling horrible, is inexcusable! It just confirmed to me that my first impression had been correct. He is a selfish person that should have never gotten married or had chilren. He is what Sno had called a checklist person, having this imaginary checklist that somehow they thing they needed to accomplish, but in reality had not right to do. He dosen't even see the pain that he has caused. I'm sorry for venting here on the blog... I"m usually not one to post much personal business, but I have just been so angry. |

On a personal note today... I dont' think I have told any of you that I have had a second husband for the past few months LOL Just kidding... My husbands friend got a divorce and him and his 13 year old daughter have been living with us. At first it was a bit hard, but oh so quickly I got used to dinner cooked 90% of the time when I got home from work, I have not loaded or unloaded my dishwasher in I can't remember how long. He has kept my kitchen sparkling clean and organized, shopped for 80% of the groceries... the only things I have had to keep up are the vacuming, my families wash, and making my bed. Well he just put an offer on a house and I think they have accepted. I happy for him, but man I'm going to miss having a second husband, he has been so helpful. I told my real husband (number 1) that he is going to have to step it up LOL. So even though I'm sure he is happy to have his own place, there is a part of me that if hoping it won't work out, I know that it evil, and I am sorry for thinking that way. So I might be in a big depression soon... just a heads up for your guys LOL.
My run tonight did nto feel very good... had some tummy issues and had to stop at a store for a potty break. Then was just VERY sluggish, maybe two days in a row feeling good was just too much for me. I guess it's a good thing that I need to start a mini taper. Plan is to have a slow easy 5 miler tomorrow, then no run, or maybe just a couple on Friday, race Saturday. 6 miles - 59:39 laps: 9:43, 9:45, 9:49, 10:17, 9:51, 10:17

Moab 1/2 Marathon (13.1 Miles) 02:07:25, Place overall: 1677, Place in age division: 58 | | I guess I'm the slowest blogger at this race, how humiliating... maybe I should not be posting :( I had a great time at this race... met up with Carolyn, it was fun talking to her face-to-face and puting a person to the blog. She did an amazing race and I'm so happy for her. I had a good race, I pushed myself after the the hill at about the 91/2 mile mark, I was able to pass lots of the people at the end especially on the road after you some out of the canyon, so I'm pleased that I could push it though at the end. I think I don't really trust myself or my training that I can make it though sometimes, so I end up holding back quite a bit until I'm sure I will be OK. If it's any consolation I will loose a toenail... Maybe that makes me a bit more of a runner. Laps: 9:33, 9:45, 10:04, 9:59, 9:39, 9:27, 9:59, 9:54, 9:37, 9:40, 9:42, 9:22, 9:18, 9:24

| | Today was the last staw that broke my already fragile self esteem, DH and I have been helping each other try and drop a few pounds... Monday morning we stand on the scale and assess the damage or success. He is about 15 pounds down and today the .4 that I was down was back with a vengeance. This on top of the new batch of zits and self esteem crushing weekend with Barbie 1 and Barbie 2 this was more then I could handle. Finally at ten I was able to pull myself off the bathroom floor and slog out 5 miles. The thought of going too far away from my house was more then I could take so I did figure eights aroud the neiborhood. Good thing it was still snowing and no one was out on the streets so you could not tell I was a bit teary or hear my audible sobs as I ran. I have to say if it was not for the blog and hearing Carolyn, Sno and Marion and many others here in my head say "don't think just go" I would never have ventured out today. My right hip and shin were buggin the whole time, I hope some icing and streatching helps so that I can increase my miles this week. Even as I'm righting this I can't believe how pathetic I'm sounding.... so sorry today for being such a Debbie Downer. Lets hope for a better day tomorrow. |

I was able to feel more comfortable and then even push myself just a tiny bit. :) Got to the gym after my run and lifted weights with DH for a few minutes, nothing too much. Shin is still a little buggy so I will ice it after I get cleaned up. Sno, I think I found a NP in Salt Lake City she even graduated from Bastyr, I need to call and see what it is going to take to get into her, if insurance will cover any... and all that business. I'll let you know how it goes. So for Sasha I will post what I eat today Breakfast - oatmeal and an orange snack - carrots and protien bar Lunch - tuna w/light mirical whip and mustard, lettus on whole grain bread, banna

What a crazy night! As much as I love getting together with my sisters, it makes for a very busy day. I got off work a bit early so I could get a run in before I had to meet up with my sisters. But as always there was more then I expected and by the time I left work... changed into my running close, and got on the road I didn't have as much time as I would have liked. So I decided to push myself a bit and run three miles at a fast pace that I could hold the entire three miles. Luckily all the street light's... cars and people were very corroperative and I didn't have to wait or slow down during the three miles. But about mile 21/2 the wheels were getting very wobbly... but I kept the pace and by the end was happy to stop. I stopped my garmin, and walked about 20 yards, to catch my breath, then did the last two miles at a more moderate pace. All in all I felt pretty good with this workout.
I was a little late meeting up with my sisters for the sister date, but it was a great time, didn't get home until pretty late and didn't sleep well again! I will do longer and slower tommorrow (today).

Tonight was much slower and longer then yesterday, boy this was a difficult run. My right shin was protesting the entire run :( Just when I thought it was feeling better. After my run I went to help a friend wash down wall of an apartment she will be moving in. Just recently divorced, I swear it's an epidemic lately. Today has been a pretty slow day here at work so I decided to run at lunch. I have not been able to do this for quite a while and it was very nice. Such a beautiful day! I didn't plan on running at lunch this morning when I was packing my gym bag so I was not completely prepared. I didn't have a towel to shower with so it was the sink and paper towels for me LOL, Luckily it was not that hot of a day so I didn't sweat to bad.
Tired to run the dirt trail next to the river by my work, but it was too muddy, I had at least a pound of mud on my shoes, before I backtracked to the road. I almost feel twice before I turned back, it was a slippery mess! I hope it dries out before I try this run again.

So we met at the parkway and she ran the first 6 miles with me. I can't tell you how nice it was to have her with me! When she was done we were back at the cars... I got a drink and told her bye, then ran the rest of my run. My right shin protested for about the first two miles, but then mellowed a bit. As I was running the street before I got to the parkway I was honked and yelled at... I couldn't hear what they said, because I was jamming to Pearl Jam on the ipod. But I think he was yelling to me that I looked super sexy and athletic in my stretchy pants, doing my old lady shuffle ;) I just smiled, waived and told him thank you as I ran past. As I started on the parkway there was a guy a ways in front of me, I thought that maybe I could chick him... and guess what I did YAHOOO! 7 miles - 1:04:40 laps: 9:26, 9:21, 9:27, 9:25, 8:57, 9:06, 8:57

| | I'm finally getting to post my time/miles. We went to dinner tonight, so as soon as I got home and cleaned up we went to dinner. Tonight was a good run, it felt better then last night. I could have run farther but with the race tomorrow I thought that I had better not. So I usually don't post any goals of what I want to accomplish at a race. But goals that are not wrote down are just wishes. So my goal for the race tomorrow is: 1) Beat the girl that is 30 seconds ahead of me in the cumulative totals. 2) Don't go above a 9:30mm pace for the race.... so there it is... posted for all to see, so it is not longer a wish, it's my goal. Wish me luck and pray for good weather, it's supposed to be snowing. 5 miles - 46:40 laps: 9:17, 9:23, 9:31, 9:12, 9:17

So I will update the post when they post the results... then I can see if I accomplished my #1 goal. This was a difficult race!! The first four miles was down the canyon, so it seemed warm even though there were a few snow flurries. In fact I took off my gloves and unzipped my jacket. But I was glad that I didn't dump them because as soon as you were out of the canyon and around the bend you got blasted with a cold head wind that would not give up.... AHHH I though I was running in place at some points. This on top of the rolling part was killing me. So goal #2 was to keep my pace below 9:30. Here are my laps: 8:40, 8:49, 9:00, 9:08, 9:00, 9:16, 9:12, 9:13, 9:47 (this is where the wheels were starting to wobble. My goal here was to not stop and walk) 9:30, (able to rally a bit) 9:51 (not for long) 9:36, 9:24, the last .1 8:04! So I didn't make goal #2, but I feel pretty good about it. My garmin read 2:01:03, that is about 4 minutes faster then Moab!! so that feels pretty good. When I get my results I'll let you know if goal #1 was accomplished... wish me luck! ** Family things... My oldest daughter's birthday is Sunday, she will be 28, I can't believe my baby girl is that old. I don't feel much older then that! I will get to take her shopping and have some fun with her :) Also my oldest son took the gmat test today... his past three pre tests were 720, 720 and 730... he was hoping for a 700. I think he did a fantastic job... he got a 690. He was a bit disapointed, but he will accept it for now.

| | Tonight was the first trail run in a while... I love running the trails above 22nd street!!! But man it made me tired tonight. And boy was I slow... I might be getting some of my fitness back, but running the trail tonight made me realize how much farther I need to get. Maybe it was too soon after the 1/2 marathon the try and do trails. There were tons of bikers, a few hikers and runners. One crazy guy trying to push a stroller on the trail, and one kamikaze biker that was yelling at me LOL. I ran into a friend that I have not seen in a while, it was great to talk with him for a bit. 7.72 miles - 1:26:47

| | So I think I left my brain on the pillow this morning when I got up... I knew that the forecast said it was be raining around 5pm, so I thought I could beat the rain... but I didn't take into consideration the drop in temp and the wind chill. I didn't pack the gym bag according to the conditions. :( So I ended up doing an hour on the eliptical at the gym... lots of stretching and sit-ups. Guess I will chalk it up to cross training right? Hopefully I will be better prepared tomorrow :) |

I was a tad over dressed (thought it would be cooler then it was) had some tummy trouble at mile 2.5 - 3 and then again right before the end, but other then that I felt pretty good. Feet are hurting a bit after, don't know what that it. Hopefully it's nothing. 7 miles - 1:05:19 laps: 9:32, 9:25, 9:49, 9:27, 8:51, 9:14, 9:03

After lazing around the house I finally got myself to get my run in. It was a pretty good run. The first .25 were rather painful this morning, don't really know what that is about. Then again at about the 21/2 mile mark I had some tummy trouble, good thing there was a fast food store near by. This is two days in a row that I have had some tummy issues. I really hope this is not the case tomorrow. If it is I deeply apologize in advance to the ladies I will be running with in Draper :) Sorry.... The I felt pretty good after that, finished up my run feeling OK. Now I'm off to spend time with my youngest daughter. Bra shopping... she is a 30 E.... yep not a typo, last time we bought some... lets hope it has not changed and gotten bigger. Every teen boys dream, every parents nightmare. Both daughter are so blessed... this from a barely B Mom... sorry TMI. But are genetics fascinating :) Then I will get to color Easter eggs with the grand kids!! So happy Friday bloggers :) 8 miles - 1:15:56 laps: 10:17, 10:00, 9:32, 9:06, 8:58, 9:06, 10:05 (hill), 8:53

| | Well I didn't sleep very well because I stayed at my son's apartment so that I could meet up with some of the FRB women. It was nice to meet you face-to-face. Smooth was delightful to run with and kind enough to stay at my pace. Tarzan had planned a nice 11 mile run out of the Draper parkway... very nice, and Kelli brought sugar cookie and juice. Thanks so much to everyone I had a wonderful time meeting all of you! 12 miles - 1:56:15 laps: 9:42, 9:21, 9:17, 10:03, 9:59, 9:52, 9:41, 9:32, 9:49, 9:46, 9:45, 9:28 Late getting to the blog, I played with the grandson after my run, finally got home, Tried to get a nap in but that was a no go :) Have a great weekend Bloggers!

I had a lovely and restful Easter weekend, in fact I'm still off work today! I ran earlier this morning but I'm finally getting a minute to post on the blog. So today was a very nice run, after getting my husband off to work I started my run. I planned on 7-8 but felt so good I just kept going. The hills in the neighborhood did not seem as bad as when I ran them on Friday. I was able to stay at a bit faster pace, but better yet I didn't have to stop and walk on any of the hills :) that always makes me feel good. So I'm off to get some spring cleaning accomplished, and hopefully some sculpting :) 11 miles - 1:39:57 laps: 9:47, 9:55, 9:47, 9:49, 8:26, 8:18, 8:45, 8:41, 8:35, 9:26, 8:25! Sound of music I hope I did this correct... it made me smile. I think this should happen more often.

I got a call from a running guy, that has been recovering from an injury. He asked if I would run a bit with him, so we met at Peak Performance Running Store, and ran for three miles together. We stood in the rain for at least two minutes for my garnin to find itself, but finally I just said let's go. By his garmin, we averaged about 9:30 for the three miles. Then I ran another 5, but in my haste to get running I started my garmin without resetting it Duh!! so I added 1/2 a mile onto yesterdays run before I looked down and really understood what was going on. I don' t know the overall time and laps. But I'm sure it was much slower then yesterday, my legs were a bit heavy tonight. Laps of the last 4.5 miles: 9:17, 9:39, 9:15, 9:03, 9:14 ** side not, I needed to get new shoes. I had been running in Pearl Isumi, but I can only get about 200 miles on them before they have some fatal flaw that makes it so I can' run in them with out getting major blisters. So as much as my shins were happy with the Pearl Isumi my pocket book was not. I got some Asics, so here's to hoping my shins will love them.

| | I slept good last night but then I woke with a new a exciting pain in my left knee. I think it might be arthritis. All this rainy weather is probably the reason. The weather was miserable today... rain snow wind, you name it, but there was a break in all the weather right when work ended, so it was just a few drizzles. I had dropped my gloves yesterday in the mud and didn't get them washed but luckily I had an extra pair of socks in my bag LOL. I looked like a dork but there was not any other runners on the trail so it didn't matter. My right hip and shin were bugging quite a bit, I'm not ready to say it's the new shoes, I think I just need to ice and stretch better. 5 miles - 46:45 Laps: 9:22, 9:16, 9:35, 9:24, 9:16 I was surprised that my laps were not over 10:00, I think I really just wanted to be done.

I will ice and stretch again tonight and hope that I can get things feeling better. I have a massage appointment tomorrow after work so that should help too. I will probably only do about 5 miles tomorrow. I'm really trying to wrap my head around a long run this weekend. I really need to do about 18-20 miles. 8 miles - 1:13:16 laps - 9:32, 9:21, 9:14, 8:51, 9:02, 9:11, 9:01, 9:05

I was planning on 5, but just could not get it done. I will try to get a good nights sleep and be positive in my thoughts that tomorrow will be a good run. The plan is to the 11 mile loop that I did Monday, then meet up with my running friend and do 7 with her, then hopefully 3-4 more after she is done. Fingers crossed that everything will be good. 3.57 miles - 33:06 laps: 9:10, 9:11, 9:17, 9:35

| | Oh ya baby!!! that's the most miles I've ever ran in a week! Booyah! I got up around Sno time (5:00) and ran 13 miles. It was slow and a bit painful for the first two or so, then I felt a bit better. I ran the 11 mile loop that I ran on Monday, then added a bit more circling the neighborhood. Then I changed my clothes... eat a PB&J, had a drink, then drove to meet up with my running friend. She did the last 9 miles with me. This is the longest distance she has run since her injury. Needless to say we were pretty slow by the end, but so happy that she had run all nine. I was just happy to be done. Now off to my son-in-laws birhtday BBQ have a great weekend. | | So I had disturbing dreams last night. I woke-up very tense because in my dream I had to bike Lotoja (Logan to Jackson 200 mile bike race) before I ran the marathon... don't know why but I was very upset that I would have to do it. I remember thinking I have not trained and it was going to be too hard. Do you think I might be a bit worried about the marathon?? I do. So my run tonight felt pretty good. After the turnaround at about 3 1/2 miles I tried some 1 minute fast 1 minutes slower paces. The fast I tried to keep at 7:40 - 8:00, then the slower paces was about 9:00. I did this about 6 times. I should try to be more technical with my runs, but I'm not certain how to program my garmin for this type of run. I'll have to read up on that. 8 miles - 1:12:31 laps: 9:04, 9:13, 9:29, 9:19, 9:01, 8:47, 8:37, 9:00

So my DH is always a snorer, but he has been congested with a cold lately and it is making it worse. Even with my earplugs he woke me at about 4:30 this morning. After a good deal of nudgeing on my side to see if I could get him to stop. I finnaly realized that even if he somehow quite snoring, I would not be able to get back to sleep. So I got up and decided to run. I needed to put new batteries in the headlight, it was not very bright, and I was out of the door by 4:50. It was very dark, just a fingernail sliver of a moon in the dark sky. I warmed up around the neighborhood for about 1.5 miles, stopped back at the house for a potty break. Then ran my five mile loop, circled the nieghborhood a bit more and back home. Not a good run for the fact that my right hip and shin hurt the entire time... really annoing. Not sure what more I need to do to get things feeling better.

| | Warning: Whining Wedensday: Today at work seemed like a week, don't you just hate days when you think it should be close to end of day, and you look at the clock and you still have 3 hours! Then I decided to run trails because it's suposed to start raining tonight and not stop for 7 days! This means that the 30K Saturday will be in the rain. My run was painful from the start. Calves felt like they were going to explode when I was running up hill. Hip and shin hurt running down hill. And who was the sadist that thought up ice baths!! Holy cow that is not fun. But I will probably do it again and need more ice next time. How do I know if all this hurting is muscles or injury? Last but not least my youngest son was hit by a car on his bike! Nothing broke but banged up pretty good. OK that is enough.... silver lining. The rain will be good for the new trees and shrubs I planted last weekend. Trail running always is better then road running. Ice baths will (hopfully) make me feel better. My son is fine, it could have been so much worse. 8.3 miles - 1:35:08

Ran on my lunch break today. My schedule dosen't always accomidate being able to do this, but it's nice when I'm able to. I think I will be able to tomorrow also. The first bit, almost a mile, is on the gravel and train tracks but after that I'm on a path by the river. They have been working on connecting all the paths and there is a new section almost ready to pave! It will be great when it's all connected. You will be able to run from the mouth of the canyon, (This will be park of the Ogden Marathon) to South Ogden.
On the way out the river looked like illusion silk. The silk that has different colored warp and weft. So that as it wrikles and shifts it there are two colors. The river looked like the bronze with lavandar/blue in it. It must have been an effect from the sun and my sun glasses. Because on the way back it just looked like churning chocolate milk. Something that I have been craving lots after my runs LOL. There were a few kiakers on the river, and best of all I ran into my running friend. She lives down by this area but I thought she would have been finished with her run. She ran me back to the railroad tracks. It was great to see her! Better run then yesterday, but my hip is still bugging. I get a massage tonight so I hope this helps. Then off to see my sister, for a sister date. Tonight we are making cards.

So I had no expectation on how this race would go. When I woke up and got ready I really was not feeling too good. I eat my oatmeal and felt a bit better, but as I drove to the start I was eating a banana and my tummy started to churn a bit. The race was not too bad it started to rain pretty good right from the start, it got a bit windy and towards the end I was getting a bit cold. I needed to stop at a port-a-john at about mile 13. Shortly after that I started to try and pick people off, you know the game. So the first was a little girl with a pink scarf that was hanging out the back of her jacket... it looked like a pink tail. Then a big guy... then the guy that kept walking... I can't remember how many I got, the last one was an older guy, his name is Bill, but I was unable to get him. I was happy with the second place in my age division. The first place lady was way ahead of me. I will have to see where I am at on the cumulative results. I'll update when they post them. After the race I eat a couple of orange slices...stretched, then ran until the gamin reached 20 miles :) I got up the nerve to intoduce myself to His Majesty Walter! He was overall winner of the 30K and the cumulative races! Congratulations!

So today did not feel very good at all, my plan was to run 6 but too pick up my pace in the middle to about 8:30 - 9:00 mm. Needless to say that did not happen. Then to top it off I don't know what I was thinking when I packed my gym bag this morning, but I was obnoxiously overdressed for the weather. There was a nice breeze though that made it so I didn't totally die. By the last couple of mile I was feeling a bit better.

| | My run today didn't feel real great, but it was not terrible either. I ran the lower part of the Ogden River Parkway, around the 21st. pond twice, then back. I ran to the underpass at Washington Blvd. because yesterday when I ran the upper part, (The last part of the Marathon) it was flooded under Washington blvd. They have had to divert the marathon before because of this, and it's a shame because there is springy boards to run on under Washington blvd. Anyway they have cleared the water so it should be good. The bright purple flowers were in bloom also, I hope they stay for the marathon, seems to me they were in bloom last year during the marathon.
My second husband is moving out this weekend... :( now I will be back to more chores for me. Does anyone feel sorry for me LOL. Ran the upper part of the parkway, out onto the road for a bit to get a bit longer of a run. There were tons of people out on the parkway. Saw all my regulars... first the guy in the wheel chair, I helped him up a hill once so now he always waves or smiles at me as we pass. Then there is the middle age lady that walks with her parents and dog, they always smile and wave at me. New was a bride getting her pictures taken at the flower garden at the MTC park, and some guy wearing a rubber shirt. | | Took it slow and easy tonight. My right hip is still buggn' don't know if it's just arthritis or something more. I had read on someone's blog about making protein bars etc. to save money and I found this recipe the other day in the back of a magazine as I was stretching at the gym. I have not made it so I can't say whether they are good or not. But is someone makes them before me let me know if you like them. 4:33 miles - average 9:33

So schedules didn't work out for a Saturday run so I hooked up with a bunch of friends. They usually run on Sundays up in the trails. I didn't want to do trails, but when I found out that they were doing 18 on the road I thought it would be good. Felt pretty good the entire time, hips/pelvis hurt a bit towards the end. This run came down the canyon that the marathon starts up. But we started much farther up the canyon. Lots of down hill, you can see by my laps.

So I really had not expectation of what my run today was going to be like. My quads are still rather stiff, so I thought I would just take it as it came. The first mile was a bit on the painful side, but as I kept moving it got better and better until I can say that I actually enjoyed most of the run. I ran the upper part of the park way and was surprised to see that the river has overflowed the underpass at Washington Blvd. last time it was about to my knees, this time I'd say it would have been about to my shoulders if I had went under there. I don't know if they will be able to clear that much water my the marathon. They have had to divert the runners in past years. It's really not that big of deal, but I'll try to keep you posted. Seen my regulars on the path, and a new regular. An older couple, the man has a braid like Willy Neilson, kind of looks like him too. But I have yet to get them to smile or wave at me like my other regulars LOL. Only a couple of draw backs on my run... I had grabbed my trail runners, when I packed my gym bag in the morning. I thought it was going to bug me, but I had not trouble. Then there was one guy that had a huge husky looking dog on the longest leash I have ever seen. It was not one of the retracktable ones, it was just super long. I thought to myself ...what is the purpose of such a long leash. The dog could attack some one in the next county and he could do anything, it would take him forever to pull all the leash in. I had to run off the path and in the bushes to stay away from the dog. Some people !!!

On my way to get onto the parkway I ran into a couple that were running the last few miles of the marathon to see the course. I talked to them for a bit, showed them were to turn to get onto the parkway, then I turned to run down as they ran up it. The river is just inches away from flooding out under Wall Ave. Man I can't believe all the water. 5 miles - 46:44 laps 9:22, 9:27, 9:20, 9:23, 9:10

Two nights of not enough sleep. Not bad, but I usually need more. Was very sluggish tonight, but after a bit felt a bit better. Ran the parkway and seem most of the regulars, plus the one guy with the rubber shirt again, still don't understand the deal with the shirt. The plan was for 8, but somewhere I must have made a different turn somewhere. When I got to the end just didn't want to do anymore. Not going to run tomorrow, but have plans for 12 on Saturday. No running today, since I'm starting to taper... and I ran on Sunday this week I thought I'd take the day off. Hope to get some work done on the sculptures I have been working on.
Yougest daughter got home last night from the vacation she was taking with my oldest daughters family. My husband and son looked after their house a few times while they were gone. They have a cat, and also my husband is doing some work on their house. Anyway the first day he went down, he came home to tell me they couldn't find the cat. I was so worried, she is usually an inside and the house was locked up so I couldn't think of where she might be. I was worried that she might have gotten shut in a room or stuck in a vent or something. Same thing when he went down the second time. Now I was really worried. The thought that the grandkids would come home and find a dead pet, or that they never found her again was starting to scare me. So I went to get youngest daughter last night. First thing oldest granddaughter tells me is that they can't find the cat. My heart sank, I tried to console her but all were pretty sad. We stood by the door and talked about the trip for a few minutes, and just as I was about to leave the cat came bolting through the door! We were all so happy, she must have ran out of the house as they were packing to leave and because it was dark they didn't see her. She is a bit thinner but nothing to bad. All-in-all I'm happy everything turned out OK. |

Well I had some serious sleep issues last night. I don't really know what the problem was, just could not get to sleep, then when I did sleep is was a restless kind of sleep. Must be a bit of tamper madness LOL. So I ran a little over 6 around the neighborhood, then meet up with my running friend for another 6. You can see by the laps that it really helped me to run with her. When I was alone I just could not get myself moving! Now all the worry sets in... is this they way I will feel at the marathon? Am I going to be able to sleep better? AGHHH!! Well I'm just going to let go of this run... it is what it is... and move on :) Well since I was asked to run the Ragnar again in a few weeks. (a man at work had a runner drop) I guess this will help with sleep deprivation training :) Oh and I get the opportunity to run the same legs I ran last year. The bottom of the big hill (Guardmans Pass). And I'm so lucky... they added 4 miles to my night run!!! Yeppy sounds like fun! (I hope you are feeling my sarcasim)

No run today... I have a massage planned for tonight after work. I hope it will help get all the kinks out. I'm still up in the air about running Friday or not. If I do I think it will just be a slow 3-4 miles. But I'm leaning towards not, any ideas? I know that this is all a very personal thing for people, everyone is different.
For those of you that want to stop be my house after the marathon. Please PM me and I will give you my address and/or cell number. I don't know if I should just post it out on the blog ( not that I don't trust you all )LOL
You can shower up if you have a drive or no other place. I will have some rootbeer floats and we can all just hang out and relax. It would be great to see many of you face-to-face. |

No running today, I'm thinking this will be a good thing. But I had to share a fun story that just happened to me. I went down to the expo to pick up my race packet on my lunch break. The usualy drill of getting your bid... move to the next line and get your drop bag and shirt...move to the next lin to get your timing band. So I handed the lady my bib and she typed in the number to swipe the timing ship, your name pops up on the computer. She looked at me and said... You are Lori Metcalf? I said Yes... She said it's nice to meet you... you are my race nemesis!! I guess I was always just ahead of her at all our local races. She said even when she didn't race she always checked the results to see if I had run and what my times were. I was very flattered. I know we call have people we compete with at races (For my Alison Brumwell) but never thought in a million years I could be some ones race nemesis.
Well after work I will meet up with Marion, and Carolyn to have dinner. Also my running friend and her husband. Hopefully my husband will make it... but it looks like a crazy day for him so it is doutful!
I have had butterflies more this year then I have in the past... don't really know what that's all about. But I will take a deep breath and try my best... but most of all try to have a good time! |

Ogden Marathon (26.2 Miles) 04:05:07, Place overall: 699, Place in age division: 24 | | My garmin to a crapper at mile 14.5 so I was waiting for the results to be posted so that I would have all the information. Not really the results I was hoping for. I felt pretty good for most of the marathon, I can't really say what it was that slowed me down, miles 20-24 were probably the hardest for me. I usually love running this portion of the marathon, but I'm sure I was much slower here then I had planned. I think (didn't have the garmin to tell me) I pick up the pace the last 3 or so miles. Mostly because I just really needed to be over with it. My only thoughts at that moment were not to stop because it was just make it even longer. It was a beautiful day, and I had a great time with Marion and Carolyn! It was so exciting to have Carolyn BQ! I can tell I have some work to put in if I'm going to try and get a better time on my next marathon. From the muscles that are sore I can see where the work needs to be placed. So all in all beautiful day... great to meet up with FRB friends! But a bit disapointed with my results. My results

Rest Day (2)
I finally slept a bit better last night. Saturday night was miserable... hips hurt alot, and rolling over in bed always woke me up. Last night was just some weird dreams... was able to sleep better, rolling over didn't hurt.
I'm feeling pretty good, I might go to the gym with my husband after work just to do some light upper body weights... core work and stretching. Will see after work how I feel.
Tomorrow I'm off work.. I have to babysit my four month old grandson!! Yepppyy. I'm hoping to do my run in the morning before I have to drive to SLC.
Marathon Update*
So I didn't tell all of you about this young kid at my work that ran the marathon, nice kids but pretty cocky. Well when I got down to about 2 blocks from the finished one of our other co-workers seen me... he was walking back to run in his wife. He yelled to me "Josh is right there go get him" I seem him and could tell he was hurting. I caught up to him, and instead of just chicking him, ask him are you OK... He looked at me, and the realization came to his face of who I was... he took off like his feet were on fire... beat me to the finish... I was so mad at myself for not just running past. But today I realized that by the official times I beat him by 30 seconds.... I'm super happy!!!

Just have a quick minute while my grandson is taking a nap. Ran a bit longer then I probably should have. Just around and around the block by my house.
My legs were pretty heavy, which was to be expected. But the thing that probably bugged me the most isthe chaffing I have undermy arms.
Well got to go hope all of you are having a wonderful Tuesday. |

Average pace 9:50 So legs felt heavy at the start but as the run progressed they felt better. Not too bad, in fact it felt good to run, I have been missing it on my days off. I really need to work on getting my diet back in shape, I think I have let it go on vacation long enough. Time to start keeping it on track again! Probably the worst thing is still the chaffing especially under my left arm. Hopefully this will get better soon.
So a few observations from my rest day yesterday. I went to the gym and just did a bit of upper body weights and then abs. But I'm a horrible people watcher. I don't know if this is because I sculpt, but even before that I drew faces... so I just love looking at different faces. Well yesterday I had a missed opportunity that I will probably never get back. I wish I had a camera with me at all times now. Any way there was a girl working out that was probably has one of the most beautiful faces I have seen in person. I know that beauty is relative, and I for one don't usually like what is considered typical beauty. I tend to like interesting faces and ethnic faces. I think she was either pacific islander or native american. I tend to think pacific islander, because of the hair.. long and wavy vs. straight. I wish I could have gotten some mug shots of her for my sculpting. Not that I am talented enough to do a portrait sculpt, but I love having referance pictures to sculpt from. She also was not plasitc, if you get my drift. As I was working out I could not belive how many women have been augmented. It is an epidemic LOL.

| | Another rest day. So today was a shut down day at my work so I will have a very long weekend :) I'm hoping to get the rest of the sculpting done on my latest doll that my brother-in-law is having made for is wife. My hubby is having a prcedure on his back (two ruptured discs) so please keep him in you thoughts and prayers that it is sucessfull and everything will be good. They are doing some sort of injections. Don't really know all the details. In other news... youngest son is finally part of the working class!!! Can I hear a big AMEN!! I love him so much but at 19 he really needed a reality check, and there is nothing like a little hard labor at minimun wage for them to realise how the world is. It's funny how when they have earned the money they are so much more resonsible in how they spend it. He is just working part time at a local grocery store in the bakery. So, hopefully he will have tuition saved when he startes back to school this fall!! So I will be running Saturday, and Sunday... first back to back days since the marathon! I hope you all have a wonderful Memorial weekend!!

| | Today felt really pretty good. The first mile or so my right shin bugged just a bit, but then it felt a bit better. I really wanted to try to go a bit faster especially since I was so slow running trails on Saturday. Just ran in the neighborhood. I was passed on Pleasant View drive by some young kid that was all lungs and legs... man it is amazing to see some one run so fast so effortlessly, or at least it looked that way to me. As I was coming up 1000 back to Pleasant View drive I seen a runner quite a was up, but as I was running I could tell I was gaining on her. So I made the goal to beat her to the top. Well she crested right before me so goal was then to pass her by the school crossing sign... I did :) I think that was the fastest I have run 1000 north street. Any way pretty good day. I need to clean up the whole family is coming over for a BBQ!! 8 miles - average 8:53

| | Today I was off work and baby sat my youngest grand son... It was so much fun just grandma time with no one else to bother us :) So I was home earlier than when I work so I went for my run. It was a bit warm but luckily for me there was a pretty hefty wind that kept me feeling a bit cooler then I would have. A young girl came running out of the parking lot in front of me, so I tried to stay with her for the run, she kept looking back at me I guess to see if I was still there, and right as I was gaining on her pretty good she stopped, then turned around to run the back. I gave her a high five and continued to my turn around point. I didn't see her after I turned back. I will probably run tomorrow then take Thursday off because I will be babysitting the grandson again, but for the entire day. 7:05 miles - 1:01:14 laps: 8:42, 8:42, 8:53, 8:50, 8:21, 8:42, 8:30
Oh I have a question... my garmin was taking a long time to switch to the regular screen, the locating satalight bar was all the way finished but it wouldn't switch. so after about 2 minutes a just pushed the mode button and it switched. I reset it and started my run, but my times were faster then I anticipated them to be, could I have made it read my pace wrong? Just wonding if that is possible.

| | Tonight I needed a change of pace. They have been working on the lower parts of the river parkway, and I had seen they have paved part by my work so I decided to see how they were coming. The first 3/4 a mile are on the gravel road next to the railroad tracks. This set of tracks are not used so it is not dangerous to run there. Just kind of a pain with the uneven ground and stuff. So after the steep drop from the railroad track there is a small wooded area. They have graded the ground getting it ready to pave so it was fun to run. The underpass of 31st street is cement then they paved all the way (3/4 mile) to the other set of tracks. These tracks are used by Union Pacific and Frontrunner, there are signs to not trespass but I climbed up then hurried across, then a bit more and you cross the bridge into Fort Buenaventura. This is a fun place to run, nice a wooded and green, there is a pretty pond/lake by the fort and there was even a few teepees set up. I even had a close incounter with a racoon LOL. Legs felt pretty heavy and stiff. Right hip and shin were a bit buggy. But I took it slower and enjoyed the run for the most part of it. 5 miles - 47:36 laps: 9:45, 9:12, 9:51, 9:29, 9:18

It's really starting to get warm now... so I need to get my butt out of bed and run before work!! But I can't sleep without all my kids home. When youngest son was up at the University it never bothered me, guess I figured it was out of my control. But now that he is back home for a bit I can't sleep without him home... I think I will just have to get used to this. LOL Planning on running the shoreline trail with my running friend tomorrow. Have a wonderful weekend bloggers :)

I had a wonderful run after work today, it was not to warm. I did the lower part of the parkway, around the pond then to the underpass at 21st. But it's locked there because of water. The water has receded but the path is covered in mud, I guess they will open the gates when they get it cleaned up. I lapped the pond a couple of times so I could get 8 miles.

So after my run my hubby decided we needed to hike Malan's Peak. He is trying to get into better shape and for some reason I need to go with him. So I know this is not leagally running miles. But if any of you know this hike it is about 2 miles to the top and about 7-9% grade. It is STEEP!And it was hard... I'm tired. But I figured this would be good for me because my last leg of Wasatch Back is 4 miles at a 7.6% grade. It had been sprikling a bit the entire hike. It was fun watching the lighting and hearing the thunder roll around the canyon. When we were about 50 yards to the car, the sky opened up and it was like buckets pouring on us for a couple of minutes.. I got soaked, but by the time we were down the street it stopped. That's weather in Utah :) |

| | So I took it slow today, but I probably should not have gone as long as I did because I felt pretty tired and my legs felt heavy and slow . The middle probably felt the best. I have not seen any of my regulars at the parkway. I'm thinking they are going later or earlier then me now. Today there was a guy with no shirt on that was rrrrrripped (rolling my r's) Most of the time I'm all for proper coverage in public, but he was a nice distraction. I was glad I had to pass him twice LOL. I'm thinking he was between 45-50 years of age, had a head full of gray hair. Then just as I was towards the end of the parkway there was a dad and little girl, I'd say she was about 6. She had the most beautiful color of red hair I have seen in a long time. As I passed her and looked at her she also had creamy ivory skin and light eyes. So cute. One of those times I wish I had a camera. 7 miles - 1:04:39 AP-9:15

| | Hmmmm I was tired tonight. I probably should have took the night off. Oh well, just did a few short slow miles on the parkway, tonight was probably the hottest I have felt so far. That could have contributed to feeling so slow. Saw a few of the regulars, the middle aged daughter with her parents and dog. And the old guy with the Willy Nelson hair, It was weird tonight because all of the other times I see him and his partner. He was wearing a hat, with his braid hanging down the back. Tonight he did'nt have his hat on, and had barrete's holding back the sides of his hair. Just struck me as weird... seemed a bit feminen. No shirtless hot guy... just a shirtless guy that I wished would have kept his sirt on. After my run hubby and I did a bit of weights and abs together. 4.05 miles 37:22 AP: 9:13

Don't really know what it's about, maybe I need to set some new goals to help with it. Anyway I really was not wanting to run, but after the first mile I felt better. Did the weird jumping and I think a small scream when a snake, that I thought was a stick on the path, was right under my feet. We started down at the rainbow gardens resturant, right at the mouth of the canyon. Then we went up the trails behind there... it added about a mile on to our regular route. I think this will be a regular route for a while the add more after that. It was a pretty nice run. Now off to all the chores that need to get done this weekend :) 9.07 miles - 1:47:53 AP: 11:54 Man I'm sooooo slow at trail running :(

Could not sleep well last night. We watched a movie that I think caused me to have some weird sleep. It was a good movie, I can't remember the name right now, it has the guy that has been the last 007. He was a jew that helped his brothers and about 200 other jews live in the forrest to get away from the Nazi's. Anyway I was up early so I decied to go for a run. Got in a few miles, felt pretty good, had a bit of tummy trouble towards the end, so it was good that I didn't run any farther. I will probably get a few more after work.
5:00am - 3.50 miles - 31:18
laps: 9:18, 9:11, 8:26, 8:49 After work, I ran 5 miles on the parkway. As I was passing the skatepark I was looking over at the kids there, I always do because I know sometimes my son and some of his friends will still go down and skate board some, and sure enough there was my son waving at me :) After I was done we meet up so I could drive him home. | | Well today was my hap-hazard attempt at trying to do some fartlek training. After seeing Carolyn's run today I thought I would give it a try. So I ran to the 21street pond. 2 mile warm-up then I have heard that it is 1 mile around the pond. I think it's slightly more though. So My feeble brain was trying to add the 25 sec. onto the time as I was running anticipating that I would need to pick-up the pace, and I never seemed to get it right LOL I swear it should not be this hard. I ended up doing 3 laps around the pond. The I turned back and my garmin was at 5.11 miles. So here I dicided to run up the hill at a good pace. I ran up it three times... at the top of the last time my garmin was at 6.00 miles exactly. Then I ran back to my car. Definatly not as planned or organized as it should be... but I felt pretty good with it. :) 7.62 miles - 1:06:44 Laps: 8:55, 8:58, 8:32, 8:37, 8:49, 8:21, 8:59, 8:58

I knew that I needed to get a run in before work, but I still pooped around a bit and got a later start then I should have. I don't know if it was my run last night, or the turn around from running in the late afternoon to running in the morning, or maybe the combination of both. But my legs were very tired! Also had a weird pain, kinda sharp in my left heel for the first 1/4 of a mile. The middle 1/2 miles or so was about the only part of this run that felt OK. I still packed my gym bag, but I have a Dr. App. after work in SLC, so will see if I have time to get any more running in. DH wants to hike Malan's Peak again, so I might be doing that. I told him as long as it's not raining too much. I can handle running in the rain, but hikeing those reall steep hills, gets a bit too slippery for me.

Didn't really have a plan to my run today, but it turned out to be pretty nice. There was only a few draw backs. 1. I forgot to pack socks so this was a bit weird to run without socks.. 2. With all the rain it has flooded the underpass at Wall ave. I didn't think it was too deep so I went for it. It was actually up to mid shin. So now I had no socks and slippy wet feet in my shoes. 3. At about the 4 mile mark I had tummy trouble. Due to the water under Wall ave. there was no one else on the path, so I thought I could do a potty break in the bushes. But I seem to have a mental block with this. Luckily there was a store that let me use their restroom. Tried to pick up the pace the last few blocks back to the car.
When I was running around the pond. I thought I saw a swan, but as I got closer to the side it was on I could see it was a pelican. I was very surprised. I know that there are some at the Great Salt Lake, but I never thought they would come this far north. It will be interesting to see if it's there again. Also there were two pretty little robin egg shells on the path, such a pretty color. I think they were just the pieces after the babies hatched.

I had over heard a few of the bikers at my work comment that they had extended the parkway path that is close to our work. So I decided to run it and see the new parts. I can run from the parking lot at my work, down a dirt/gravel/sand road and on an unused portion of railroad track. Once I past all that there is a paved path by the river. As soon as they get it over/under or around the said railroad tracks it will all connect to the other path that I run. All told when it's finished it should be over 20 miles of paved path. So nice not to have to deal with cars and streets. It was a pretty nice run. At one point along the path there are businesses close to it, one car dealer had a table with water on it for people on the path... good marketing I guess. I had some on my way back. There is one thing I find rather odd on the pathway. When they were doing some of the construction there was a huge tree that was right by the edge, so the cut it down but the stump was too big to pull out. So they had someone make a sculpture out of it. Now I think this is really neat, but I can't understand why they sculpted dolphins... the dolphins are standing on their tails, at first I thought they were penguins but as I pass I could see the dorsal fins. I just think it should have been some other animal or something. I mean you wouldn't see a dolphin swimming in the river. It just didn't make any sense to me.
Where they have added the new miles, goes through a ultimate freeze bee course. I think that is what it's call. I have ran down around there before and never see anyone. Tonight there had to be about 30 people all over the course. From what I could tell the course crossed the path a few times. I was worried I was going to get a disc the the back or side of my head LOL.
Sorry for the ramble.... pretty good run, but I felt more tired then I did yesterday 9:00 miles - 1:20:48 laps: 9:08, 8:45, 8:47, 8:51, 9:04, 8:36, 8:50, 8:43, 10:04

| | Today did not feel good!!! It was a rough run. I met my friend at her house and ran the parkway by her house... basically the same as I ran from work yesterday. I really do not feel well today. Every muscle from my waist down hurts... and I feel very fatigued. SUCKS!! I think my friend wanted to do more, but when I made her stop back at her house for me to potty, I just could not get going again. I hope I feel better before the WBR. 7 miles - 1:04:14

| | I had a massage after work, and because I'm still not feeling great I thought I would take it a bit easier today. I'm thinking of taking it easier this entire week since I will be running in the WBR Friday and Saturday. It's not alot of miles, I think my legs total about 16-17, but it's the not sleeping well and stuff that I know will get to me. Lately even with good sleep I have not been doing so good. Anyway just did an easy 5 at the gym. 9:30 average. |

Well, I have a big fat goose egg today :( But I had a great time with my grandkids, so it was not a total loss. I think the break did me a bit of good. I will be back at it tomorrow, but I still think I will take it easy this week. |

Shoes/sandals for when you are not running
Compression Sleeve (for my calves)

Baby wipes
Tooth paste
Tooth brush
Hair brush
Ponytail holders (again with my hair control)
Chap Stick
Eye drops (I have very dry eyes)
Sunglasses (I can’t live without them)
Pillow
Sleeping bag
Towel
Washcloth
Soap/shampoo/conditioner
Money (Needed for food, shower, cot you can rent at HS)
Chocolate milk
Almonds
Jerky
Oranges
Garmin
Ipod
Headlight (your team should provide headlamps and safety vests)
Water bottle
Spray bottle (Feels good when you are hot and running to have people spray you a bit)
Stuff to decorate your car/truck
Silly string to spray at other runners…cow bells to ring…other wacky stuff you can think of. And maybe your cell phone.
Hmmm can't think of anything else right now but if I do I will update the list. ** added items to my list: Ibuprophine or favorite pain meds, and ear plugs, maybe they will help with the sleep? Not my best run tonight... everything is feeling stiff and heavy. I really hope this is not how things will be this weekend. Did my regular loop at the parkway, seen a few of the regular people. Weather was comfortable but maybe a bit too warm. I'm planning on about 5 miles tomorrow and hoping for some good sleep the rest of the week :) 7.44 miles - 1:05:58 average pace 8:52

I don't think I looked at my garmin the entire run. So I was VERY surprised to see that my times were pretty good. Now I need to pack all me stuff and get ready for this weekend. I hope to see a few of you out on the course. 6.55 miles - 57:12 8:57, 8:47, 8:46, 8:35, 8:33, 8:45, (.55 8:48)

Wasatch Back Relay (3.33 Miles) 00:47:53 | | So I don't have the official times for our team, these were just taken from my Garmin. We got the the first exchange and waited about 2 hours for van 1 to show. Apparently team 1 was a father and his 5 daughters. Some of the girls had flown in from out of town. They went to dinner the night before and 3 of the six were throwing up at 2 inthe morning. So they were having a very difficult time! I guess the dad at one point passed out. We were worried that they would hot be able to do it. I was runner #9 our team was Running is for Criminals. So I got to start my firt leg at approximaely 2 in the afternoon. It was getting pretty warm up in the valley but a very pretty day. This was a pretty good run... I tried to pass this older guy as I was coming up to the exchange but didn't quite get him :( Considering the way I had been feeling the past few weeks I felt happy with my effort on this leg. laps: 8:00, 8:21, 8:35, last.33 8:27 Continued on Saturday

Well I had this all figured and ready, was about to put my lap time in for my last leg and found out my Garmin was dead. Then my entry was not saved and I could find it. Hmm I will try to redo it all for you. Second Run: started at about 2:00am was a great night nice a cool. But last year the moon must have been fuller, we just had a tiny fingernail sliver, so I could not see the see the water that I was running around as well as I remembered it last year. Some rolly hills through out this run. Felt good and passed numerous runner during this portion. The first one I passed was the older gentleman I could not catch on the first leg. :) Victory!! 9.43 Miles - laps: 9:04, 8:42, 8:55, 8:54, 9:14, 8:59, 8:53, 8:57, 8:52, (last 43 - 9:02) Third leg: The hill I had been dreading! I got to start my last run at about noon, and by now there was a steady rain. So I put on the jacket I had brought and started off. About 1/2 a mile into my run I realized that I was too warm, so I started to take off my jacket. In my sleep deprived state I somehow got my sleeve caught around my Garmin on one wrist and my ipod on my other. I looked like I was in some sort of a straight jacket. After struggling for a few seconds looking like a complete idiot, I turned back to the runner behind me and asked for a hand. He was kind enough to walk with me a bit and help me out of the situation. I could hear my Garmin beeping in protest as we were trying to figure out how to get my jacket off me. So I think some of my times might not be accurate, but I'm sure it's not too far off. Passed my jacket off to the van when I caught up to then and marched on. I was happy to be able to pass a few people on this leg! About 20 yards to the finish I saw Smooth... gave her a hug... she told me to get going I was almost finished, but it was so fun to see a blogger there. Got to the finish and my team mate gave me a big hug and squoze the last bit of breath I had in my lung LOL. Smooth cheered me on, she even took my picture! When I got back to my van they had ice cream waiting for me... what a team. 3.57 miles Laps: 9:46, 12:51, 14:14, (.57 - 15:03) Those are some sloooooowww miles LOL how embarrasing!

| | My plan tonight was slow and easy. I ran down the parkway, but there is still water under Wall Ave. I didn't feel like running with wet feet again so I turned around and ran up... It was a nice run I only did the funny snake dance once (saw a snake right at my feet, thought it was a stick until it moved) As I was coming back down the parkway my pace was probably too fast for my easy run, I think I should have been a bit slower, I guess will see how it effects my runs for this week. 5.37 miles - 48:03 laps: 9:10, 9:01, 9:02, 8:44, 8:48, (last .37 8:50) |

| | I need to get my runs done in the morning, but I'm having a very very difficult time getting up early enough to do it before I have to get ready for work. Mornings are the worst time for me, everything hurts, and I feel stiff. After work is getting so hot now, so I really hope I can start feeling better in the mornings. Tonight was pretty uneventful... took it slow again, I think my average pace was around 9:30.

| | Tonight was HOT. The temperature thing in my car said 91 when I was driving home. I don't know how accurate they are, but it felt really hot. I was just planning on running the parkway again but when I got to the top I thought I would run the dirt trail until my garmin read 4 miles so that I would end up with 8, but when I got to that point curiosity took over and I wanted to see when the path was going to end. It's a pretty nice path and I will probably run it again. I was pretty slow on some of the hills when I was on the trail. Between miles 7-8 I thought I would try to pick up my pace... I was hoping to keep it at a 8mm but I didn't make it :( I will try this again another day also. By the end of this run I was pretty hot and tired! 8 miles - 1:22:10 laps: 8:56, 8:49, 8:44, 9:15, 11:03, 9:20, 8:41, 8:19, 8:59

The plan was to run in the morning because I had so much going on after work. But I didn't even hear the alarm go off... So I ran on my lunch break. It was not too bad, but I got rather hot! Thank heavens there is a shower at work. Was hoping that I would get 6 miles in, but I needed to stop at every potty along the route (good thing they were open this time) and so I was getting way too long, time wise, for a lunch run. Took it pretty easy, besides the tummy issuse I felt pretty good, I hope there is a little speed saved up for tomorrows 5K.

Pleasnt View Founders Day 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:25:18, Place overall: 54, Place in age division: 1
My friend came to my house and we ran the Pleasant View Founders Day 5K. I was not expecting a big turn out but was surprised to see about 300 runners. I will have to update the report when the official results are posted. I don't know my overall place. But I was very happy to see that I was first!!! in my age group. Man I can't remember the last time that happened, it might even be the first time that as happened!! I think there were 8 ladies in my age group... the really great thing is I smoked the second place lady by I think 2 minutes... like I said when the official results are posted I will let you know for sure. Then Sue and I ran around pleasant View for another 4.5 miles. Just took it nice and easy... then had the breakfast in the park... Nice start to my weekend! Have a great weekend bloggers!!! ** Updates I was the 54th runner out of 271. I had estimated about 300 so I was pretty close. When I looked at the offical results I beat the second place lady by 4:33... maybe they were just not trying ?

| | Could not get myself out of bed this morning AGHHHH I swear I really need to because it was 97 degrees when I left work, without even a stitch of a breeze. I ended up running on the treadmill, I know this is bad... but I can zone out for an hour and then it's done! Had a bad weekend after the race. We had to put down our old dog. We had her for about 14 years. I don't think my youngest daughter can remember life without her. She was my first trail running buddy and so far the best dog we have owned to run with. I was really hoping she would make it through the summer, but it became very clear ealier this week that she was not doing well. So after my race, my husband convinced me it was not good to keep her going on this way. I guess she always loved winter better... she hated the hot weather, she was big and black. So sad, my two youngest 19 and 16 were so sad, and still are. 6.48 miles - 60 minutes average pace 9:22

| | Ran the parkway after work... it was pretty hot, but I did better then I thought I would. Maybe I'm starting to acclimate to the heat. As I was running on the trail, I noticed some magazine pages on the trail, when I looked down I was shocked... they were pages from a porno mag. I ran around picking up about 3 or so pages within about ten yards of the path. There was a garbage can within 1/8 of a mile and I disposed of them there and hurried to the bathroom that was close by to was my hands... LOL. There are lots of little kids walking with their families down there, I can't believe no one else picked them up! Also I seen my regulars (little old couple with middle age daughter and dog) I was so glad they didn't see them... the little old lady reminds me of my mom. I seen one other friend and ended up stopping and talking with him and his wife for a while. 7.1 miles - 1:02:56 laps: 8:50, 8:55, 9:12, 8:52, 8:42, 8:41, 8:55, 8:20

Ran the parkway... then when I got to the top I continuted up the dirt path... not as far as I did last week. I felt a bit drained today, don't really know what's up, I tried to pick up the pace at about the 6.5 mile mark... tried to keep the pace at about 8mm but I think I failed miserably.
We are going to Park City tomorrow thur Monday for a long 4th of July weekend. They will probably have a 5K on Saturday I will try to run. I will be taking it easy today and Friday.

Park City fourth of July Run (3 Miles) 00:24:36, Place overall: 56, Place in age division: 6 | | This was just a fun run... Tons of people though, there were 560 women. I placed 6th in my age group out of 51. If this had been a 5K I think it might have been a PR for me!!Ran another mile total to and from the race. I had plans to run again while I was up there but that was not the case :( But my family went on a nice bike ride on the rails to trails paths so I guess I was not a total slug. | | I'm off this week... my work has such down for the entire week, but I didn't run yesterday so it looks like a low mileage week for me. I often think about doing a fall marathon, but it get so difficult to train during the summer. My family always has other plans and don't think that all our vacations should revolve around my running... What's the deal with that? So it seems like I tend to slow down a bit in the summer. Anyway my run this morning felt good, I need to get new shoes though. No real plan to the run, just started from my house and ran around the hood for a bit. :) 6.08 miles 53:59

| | Today was MISERABLE!! First I got up later then I had planned, this is not totally bad... I think sleep is good. Then I have been needing new shoes for a while. I looked at the bottom of them yesterday after my run and I have now worn through the harder black bottom layer and I'm starting to wear off the softer white cushy stuff on places on the bottom of my shoes. My goal today is to get some new shoes!! So I pulled out a pair of older shoes that I still had in my closet... I looked at the bottom and they seemed to still have a bit of running left on them. Big mistake not looking inside them before I put them on!!About 3 miles into my run I could feel a pinching feeling on my heel... by mile four it felt like a white hot poker on my heal!! I don't know why I kept these shoes... they were the ones that gave me a huge blister... and now I have another one :( Took off my shoes about a block from my house and ran stocking footed the rest of the way...I should have done this earlier, it felt so much better then the shoes LOL. Garmin was acting up this morning so the mileage is a guestimate, and I'm clueless of the pace... It was painful so I'm sure it was terribly slow. To top off this lovely run about 1/4 a mile to the house I starting with tummy trouble. I was lucky though, there was some construction on the road I was on and they had a port-a-John. I'm blessed/cursed to have no sence of smell so they don't bother me :) The curse of no sence of smell... my garden is blooming so pretty... wish I could smell the lillies I cut and put on my table. So I'm chalking this run as done... and moving on and tomorrow will be better! Now I'm going to go weed the gardens, and feel the grass between my toes!

| | Today was slightly better run then yesterday, but still was not feeling my best. Got up pretty early but it took me a while to feel like I wanted to even try to run. I did get new shoes yesterday... had to go to two stores to find some asics in my size, they only had the more expensive ones so I was disappointed, but I knew that I had better get some because my heel was really starting to hurt. I'll ice it today also. I ran a longer loop from my house, when I got to about 4 miles my tummy started to bug. I knew there was a park at the bottom of the long hill I was on, when I got there it was locked so I chased the guy on the lawn mower around til he saw me and could unlock the door. He was soooo painfully slow walking back to the restroom, I don't think he felt the urgency I was needing him to feel. When I was about 1/2 a mile from my house there was a runner on the road coming the other direction. At first I thought it was a lady but as they approched I realized it was a guy.... Fabio LOL he looked just like him. He was wearing tight short shorts, tight tank top, almost like a unitard LOL and a long blond pony tail going half way down his back. It was a sight right out of a romance novel... if you are into that look LOL!! Anyway made me laugh to myself a bit. 8 miles- 1:14:57 Average pace 9:15

Then every time a saw a cat I had to double look to make sure it wasn't a skunk. Then ran 3 more miles at the gym, did the last 1/2 barefoot. I can't say that I really liked this, was a bit weird, and I got a blister on the ball of my foot. Got invited to go climbing tomorrow after work at the climbing gym in Ogden... It's been a long time, hope I can manage.

Got up and ran before work again today. I think 5 1/2 is the most miles I can get in before work unless I can get up earlier. That is unlikely though, today was difficult, I stood on my porch for a few seconds really wanting to turn around and go back to bed, but I figured I had made it out the door I might as well run LOL. No skunks today, or cats. But there was a horse that was hanging he head over the fence at one point, I thought he might try to get me as I went past, but he just look at me like I was crazy. Got invited to go climbing tonight after work, with a few ladies from work. I think I will try to get hubby to come down to the climbing gym too. So I probably won't get any more miles in today. Up early to run before work, I was hoping to get a few more in after work, but as I was leaving home my hubby asked if I was coming home early... we are going to Bear Lake this weekend and have tons of packing to do. He wanted me to get off work early but I told him that was not going to be possible. I'm hoping to get in a few miles in the morning before we take off. But I will not be back to the blog until Tuesday.

It was a lovely run... I would have liked to go longer, but I was afraid I would get back to late to fix breakfast. I had to change days for my meal to cook, with one of my sisters, and I knew that hubby would not be happy with my if I was too late and he had to do it all himself. But it was a very nice run! |

I'm off work today, so I slept in a bit. I usually get my run finished before my hubby has to go to work, but today I took off for my run as he was taking off to head to work. The temp thing at the city building I passed said 77 degrees, I should have started earlier. My left heal had hurt for about the first half mile... then it felt fine so I thought it was going to be a nice run... warm but good. Then it all feel apart at the 2.41 mile mark. I thought at first I just had a stuffy nose, but the I realized I was having a bloody nose. AUGHHH! I stopped at a house that still had their sprinklers on and tried to wash my hands and shirt and get it to stop. After about 5 minutes of trying I could tell it was just getting worse. I wadded up my RHPC shirt to my nose and started my walk back home. I looked like something out of a slasher movie by the time I got home. Hand and arms covered, face and shirt. I never expose my tummy when I'm out running, it was humiliating having my marshmellow white, jiggley tummy exposed while I was walking home... I finally got it stopped, but I don't think I will go out and try to get any more miles in.
Tomorrow is my annual birthday run with my running friend. We both have July birthdays! So we run the trails up by snowbasin ski resort and then have breakfast at the Oaks in the canyon. It is a great tradition! We were not able to run it last year due to Sue's injury so we are both really looking forward to it. This will be the first year I've had my garmin so I will know just how far this run is. I estimated it to be about 10 miles before. I guess will see. I'm off to get a massage and get me a new sewing machine for my birthday, it's Sunday. My old sewing machine broke about two years ago, and when I went to get it repaired they said for the cost to repair it, it was better to buy a new one. Oh I think my average pace for the pathetic miles I put in today was 9.09mm
Have a good day blogger!

So today was my birthday run with Sue. This has been our tradition since we met and became running friends, about 7 years ago. Last year due to her injury we were not able to do it. So it was even better and sweeter doing it this year! You can check out the pictures from our run on my blog. It was tons of fun! We were a bit slow but it's a long climb up, then when you are running down you think it great because you are going down hill... but after a few miles my legs were just plan tired. My left heel really started to bug, so I have been icing it a bit this weekend. I think we average about 12:00 mm Have a great weeked bloggers!!

Got up before work today YAHOOOO and got in a few miles. The plan is to go to the gym and get a few more after work, also do a bit of weights (Blah)
So this morning was a pretty good run. Are the days already getting shorter? It seemed much darker this morning then it has in a while. Maybe I was out a bit earlier or many there just wasn't any moon this morning. My headlight got broke the other day so I will need to buy a new one soon. Because it was so dark I loop the neighborhood a bit til I felt more comfortable. As I got to the top of the hill, and headed down another street, I looked up just in time to see a shooting star... so cool. It was just before it was too light to see any stars. I ran part of the 5K course I ran a few weeks ago, then did 3 hill repeats by the round-a-bout. This is the hill I normally do hill work on (Not that I do it that often) but instead of just turning around at the top and running down, I went around the round-a-bout that is by it. I think I like doing it this way... it gives me a bit of a break to catch my breath. I don't know if that is how you should do hill work though. I would have gotten about 1/2 a miles more but as I was coming down the hill back to my house my tummy really started to bug, so I just went straight home. *Went to the gym after work and got three more miles in on the treadmill. Then did upper body weights and core work.

| | I don't even remember turning off the alarm this morning! So by the time I woke on my own, there was not way I was going to get a run in :( In fact it was lucky that I made it to work on time. Don't really know what's up with me, but I have been miss placing things and forgetful alot for the past few days. I hope I can pull myself together soon. So I ended up at the gym again....I ran miles 3 and 5 at a 8mm pace. Miles 2, 4 and 6 and a 8.5 mm pace, then the others at between 9 and 9.5. I guess this is a temp run of sorts. It felt pretty good. Towards the end of the fastest miles my breathing was getting harder, not too bad though. I hope that I can get myself up tomorrow for a morning run!

I had a battle with my inner 2 year old this morning. It was not pretty... I got up and walked around the house a bit, did the potty thing, and got dressed to run... then undressed and back in bed.... then got up and got dressed again!! My arguments "It's too dark and I dont' have a head light that works" ..."You don't want to run on the treadmill again so get dressed"... "My heel is hurting a bit maybe running on the treadmill would be better"...."Doing all you miles on the treadmill is not good for your body or your mind" ... This went on until I finally put on my big girl panties and got myself out the door! It was crazy!! So needless to say I only got a bit over four miles in. I will probably get a few more in at the gym after work. The run felt pretty good first two miles were slower then the last two. I averaged a 8:50mm for the run. ** After work ran a slow (9:30mm) three miles on the treadmill. Zoning out and contenplating the past few heated conversations I have been having with my 19 year old son. He seems to think he needs a motorcycle. I on the other hand feel that there is no way while he is living under my roof he will have one. His goal job, when he grows up, will be building and fixing motorcycles so his arrgument to me is that eventually this will happen and he will own and ride them. I have told him I'm fine with this career choice and that it will be when he has moved out. Needless to say he feels I'm unresonable. A couple of days ago a co-workers 19 year old son borrowed a friends motorcycle and crashed coming down Ogden canyon without a helmet. I now listen as he is telling me they are hoping he will wake-up. All the dreams they have had for this young man, have changed. Now you are just hoping he will regain some of what we consider a normal life. All the questions... will he walk? Will he be the same? What kind of life/functioning will he have. When my son talks with me about this motorcycle as if nothing could ever happen to him... even when I told him about this other kid. He looks at me and says that will never happen to him... Oh to be 19 and bullet proof... in some ways I do envy that mindset. But for now all that talk just confirms to me that he is no where near mature enough to have a motorcycle.

| | Another run at the gym... I'm getting a little better at mornings, but not as good as I need to be. Sometimes zoning out on the treadmill is not too bad. I guess that's what tonight was... It's a bit like moving meditation. Took the scissors to my hair last night, again probably not the best thing to do but my hair was really bugging me. LOL No one at work or home commented so it either looks so bad they didn't want to say anything or I didn't change it to bad. Oh and I got a new headlight...if I get up in time tomorrow I will try it out. |

So I could not sleep last night... first my youngest daughter was out with some friends. I have a very hard time falling asleep when my kids are not home. I'm getting better when it comes to my youngest son, but for some reason it has not clicked yet with my daughter. After about 40 minutes of trying to sleep I got up and went to my doll room/studio and worked on a pair of hands for a new doll that I have been working on. Then I made my biggest mistake... I got on the computer to see what time the movie she went to was going to get out, and I got draw in to the time suck of the internet...all the wonderful info on so many things right at your finger tips. Sometimes it is just too enticing! So even after I made my way back to my bed, it took me a while to shut down my brain from all the things I was looking at. To most people pretty borning doll stuff LOL to me it's like heroin! Needless to say when the alarm went off for a morning run I turned it off and went back to sleep. I will be double fisting the diet Dr. Pepper to keep me going at work.
Also on a somewhat related note... I have been so forgetful lately. Misplacing my purse, my braces and then this morning I packed my gym bag for my run after work and when I got to work I realized it is still back home somewhere. Probably by the door waiting for me to pick it up! Let's hope this is a passing phase that will pass me by soon. I hate the feeling that I'm loosing it. ** Update after work: 4 slow/easy miles... called my running friend and she wants to do 12-13 tomorrow. We are planning to do TOU 1/2 in a few weeks... maybe I should be planning better for it??

| | Met Sue at the Monroe parking lot on the parkway. We ran down the parkway...into Fort Buenaventura had to stop in the fort for a potty break. Then we ran back up to the car... as we were approaching the car I told her we were almost to 12 miles, and asked if she wanted to stop at that or go to 12. She informed me that she wanted to go to 13! I said OK and we proceeded up the parkway farther. At the 13 mile mark she said we needed to do 13.1 LOL This is the farthest she has run since her injurie. It's so great to have her back running with me on Saturdays. I have missed her soooo much. 13.10 miles - 2:03:21 laps: 9:06, 8:57, 8:36, 8:48, 9:43(walked a bit while we had a drink) 9:20, 9:24, 9:18, 10:08( walked a bit again to drink and eat a bit) 9:47, 9:54 (these were hard miles... up a slight incline, but also with a killer head wind) 9:41, 9:47 (here I just think we were getting very tired) last .10 8:28.

I will run tonight after work... probably on the treadmill since it will be in the upper 90's by the time I'm off work. I just could not turn my brain off last night after going to the viewing of a friends brother. The friend is who I ran on his Ragnar team with. His little brother hung himself last Thursday. I wanted to go and so my support for my friends family, but it upset me more then I thought it would. The viewing was at the same mortuary as my friends 5 years ago. Same method of death. I guess there were too many similarities. Even though this young man was younger then my friend. They were both very handsome guys with lovely blue eyes. This kids looked like he was right out of a cologne add. I could not go into the room were his cassket was by the time I got to the door I had had enough... I think my friend was understanding. I let him know if they needed anything I would try to be there for them. I really just need to shake this off... I'm sure my run tonight will help. *after work - 7 miles at the gym. first mile 9:00 next two at 8::30, next two and a half at 8:00, then next 1.5 at 8:30 and last .50 at 9:00. Does that add up to seven? My brain is fried for the day... off to eat and go to bed.

I can sleep so much better when I can have my little routines... a bath... read my book. It seems to help. Anyway I got up early today, but did a few things before I got out the door. I wore my new headlamp, and I'm not sure I like it. Besides the band that goes around my head, there is a band that goes acrossed the top. My old one did not have this. This one seems a bit bigger also. Usually I wear it over a hat, but today a just wore it without. The band that goes aross the top of my head is annoying!! It might be getting cut off soon. There are only two settings with the light... on... then flashing. I don't understand the need for a flashing light, I swear the flashing is so maddening it could probably induce seizures. When I got out of my immediate neighborhood there was a bit more traffic. I think people in cars think when they see a headlight bobbing at them in the distance they need to blind you with their bright car lights LOL.
A pretty good run overall... I won't be getting any more mile today, I have an appointment after work.

Snuck out at lunch and got a little run in. Today has been a bit cooler, and there was a slight breeze that kept the sweating index to just below disastrous. I have a massage after work so I"m hoping he can get some of the tightness I woke up with this morning to get out. I also have my three oldest gradkids spending the night at my house so I'm glad I got a bit of a run in. Tomorrow is my works 5K race, and I will be helping out at it. I hope I can get a few miles in before or after the race... will have to see. I have signed up to run it also but that depends on if we have enough volunteers to help.

| | Well this was my works 5K today... I had the grandkids over night (still here) so I didn't sleep very well. Got to the run at 6:00am to help with set-up and registration. We had lots of volunteers so I was able to run. I knew something was up when I crossed the finish at 21:04. I figured either the timing was off or the course. I guess what had happened was the person that was at the top to make sure people saw the turn around seen the mark for a 5K that had been on the same course a while ago and thought it was our mark. Oh well... helped clean up and I'm back home playing with the grandkids... maybe I'll get some running in later tonight or tomorrow. For now this is a short week. |

| | Today was a run out of frustration! It has just been one of those days when bosses, co-workers, children, mother's, and husbands all seem to tell you that you are not meeting their expectation/needs. It's been one of those days when all I really wanted to do was run away and join a circus. So instead I just ran....all was not resolved but I did feel a bit better at the end. It got a bit warm towards the end of my run, and there was one flash back to a childhood trauma that involved a grasshopper, I'm sure you all had one of those also. Other then that nice run! As I hit the stop button I looked down at my garmin, it read 1:00:00. I don't think that has ever happed before for me. laps: 8:17, 8:30, 8:30, 8:47, 8:28, 8:36, 8:38

| | So I was invited after work to go rock climbing. I'm usually not very adventurous, but I have been trying to stop being so fearful of things. I have climbed before with my husband and kids but it has been years. Anyway we went up Ogden canyon to hole in the wall, then walked down the canyon to another area. I think they told me that the climb we did was called Utah crack or something like that. I know that one of the climbs by us was called in the pink. Any way they were easier climbs. I made it to the top and felt very happy with myself!! I gave my co-workers a bit of a scare when I tripped on my way back to the car and feel into the road. Sometimes I wish I had been blessed with gracefulness, but that is just not the case. My run tonight was slow, easy and short. My left heel has been hurting quite a bit, I think it PF. I have been icing it but it is still buggin quite a bit. I think my pace tonight was around 9:30 for the run.

Got up early and ran this morning. Thought maybe I'd see the tail end of the metior shower, but I must have been too late :( My left heel hurt for the first mile or so then was OK. I will be icing it more today. Did my 5 mile loop but at about mile 4 started having some tummy issues. I cut it short to get back to my house and take care of business, but then I thought I could get a bit more in before I had to get ready for work, so I just looped the nieghborhood for a bit. I was thinking I would get a bit over 5 miles, but I wasn't really paying attention to my miles and was surprized to see that I had actually ran a bit over 6 when I stopped . The plan is to do a few more miles after work, but I'll see how I'm feeling... things are kinda hurting right now, so I'll is I feel better after work.

| | Could not get up before work and run so I ended up doing the miles after work... Man I just really need to do better. I kept it at between 9 and 9.5 mm. My heel was buggin just a bit. I iced it at work and last night and it seems to be helping. I do have a new pain... the bone on the outside of your leg just at your knee... it kinda sticks out a bit. It's hurting right long the outside of that bone... then sometimes when it's bad it hurts down to my anckel bone. You know that tendon thing that you can feel. Anyway anyone know what that is? I have been streatching and icing. Is it just runner's knee? Or ITB? I need to get feeling better soon, I signed up for TOU half on the 29th...!And my running friend wants to do 14 this Saturday LOL Well off to soak in the tube. |

And then again in about another mile because I was having some technical difficulties with my music. Or I guess it's with my ear buds, I think I sweat so much that I short out my headphones all the time. I usually need to replace them about every 6-8 months. Anyway legs felt pretty heavy and tired today. My heel was OK today... in fact it was my hip that was bugging more today. Oh well onward ever onward LOL. |

Pretty nice run tonight... it got a bit warm, but there was a nice breeze that made it more comfortable. Ran the parkway and seen a few of my regulars. (guy in a wheelchair with girlfriend/wife, middle age lady with parents and dog) also saw the Willey Neilson guy but he has had a haircut so I guess I can't call him that anymore. Had to take a double take when I saw him with a nice man haircut. Felt pretty good for the most part. Had a few heart palps at the first little bit that made me have to cough. I guess I need to watch my stimulate intake (i.e. chocolate, caffeine.) I really need to try and do some speed work... I'll try that tommorrow.

Aghhhh I had it all typed and then it didn't save... this has never happened before. But I will try to remember it all again. My first sad attempt at a Yasso workout. The plan was to run from work to my old high school and do the yasso workout then run back to work. I though it would be about 2 miles to my old high school but it was a bit farther. Had to stop at the library a block before the school and take a pit stop. Got to the school and man has it changed!! and lucky for me there was only one older guy on the track walking and one football kid practicing kicking.
2.74 - 8:58 (I think I need to slow down this warm-up a bit)
.50 - 3:43 7:30 pace
.25 -2:21 9:30 pace
.50 - 3:50 7:52 pace
.25 - 2:27 10:03 pace
.50 - 3:57 8:03 pace (starting to really feel it)
.25 - 2:35 10:36 pace
.50 - 3:54 7:59 pace
2.72 - 9:13 (I didn't do the lap around the track... I just caught my breath then headed back to the car)
8.16 miles - 1:12:25
So that was it... you are to start with 4 and work up to 10.... crazy!!! This was a mental and physical workout. It made me realize just how far I need to go and made me rather bummed about that. On the other hand I'm happy that I completed the 4 that I had set out to do... there was a point while I was there that I thought I could just not do them and not even report about this run... so I'm glad that I held myself accountable to finish it to the best of my ability and report the outcome here. The miles to the school are on a busy street with little to no shoulder and little to no shade.... YUCK!! It was in the upper 80's but I took my hand held bottle so I had water and that helped. I will try to plan on this type of work out more often, I'm not ready yet to report a schedule here.

I usually have 2-4 pairs at a time in my bag just so this won't happen, and I thought I saw an extra pair in my bag yesterday. Anyway I got a small blister from not having socks... I could feel it the last mile. Then I took off my shoes and ran a VERY slow quarter mile. Grandkids spending the night tonight, and running with Sue for 10-12 (depending on how we feel) tomorrow. | | A very disruptive night sleep, I kept waking up at least 4 different times. At least I was able to fall back to sleep relatively fast. Tonight's run felt very hard... I think I need to slow it down a bit on some of my easy/recovery runs. I didn't think it feel that difficult though. I took it pretty easy Saturday. But legs felt trashed... I hope I get feeling better before Saturday. I went into the gym after my run to stretch and do some abs. I'm a horrible people watcher, I think it's a habit I need to stop doing. Anyway there was a guy there that had a very long black ponytail... It was about to the waist of his shorts. And that was not all... he had the middle of his nose pierced and gauged with this black horse shoe looking thing in his nose! I wondered if it was hard to blow his nose with it there and when he got a cold if it got boogies all over it... YEWWW Gross!!! LOL 7.10 - 1:01:21 laps: 8:45, 8:44, 8:55, 8:42, 8:35, 8:21, 8:28 Things at work have changed and Big Brother is watching us... so I have to wait to get home to do all my posting... it's a bummer... family dosn't want me on the computer eaither :(

| | This has been a very long night... I had my run and then when my husband came home from work he wanted to go for a hike. We just did a quick 4 miles on the Ben Lomond Peak trail, but it got dark before we were done and we didn't bring a light. I was getting pretty nervous! My husband was having fun spooking me. I still one of those girls that gets scared very easily and he thinks it's great fun. For my run I tried to keep it slower tonight I averaged a 9:11mm so I did pretty good. I don't think I'm going to do the Yasso's this week. I think I will just do some nice slower miles since I have the 1/2 on Saturday. Well I'm beat... time for bed. |

I think my pace averaged about 9:30 for the run.

| | Kind of a planned day off... I had a massage after work and planned on running after... but it was so HOT!! I have been running in the hot all week! So I was on my way to to gym to run on the treadmill but all of a sudden my car turned and headed home... it was the weirdest thing! So I will catch up on other things tonight. Plan for tomorrow is an easy 4 hopfully in the morning. Then I have to run the running portion of the B.R.A.T. at work. Let me explain... I work with a bunch of automotive engineers who also bike at lunch. I have biked with them a couple of times but they are very competative and I get tired of being dropped within the first few turns of the road. Anyway they have this silly race that they started. It's on the parkway by the river, that is close to our job. I run down there a few times at lunch when I can. So first they have a bike ride on the dirt trails by the path... then they have to tube down the river to a certain point, then they have to run back to the start with their tube. So one of the guys has had some knee issues and wants me to do the running part. They wanted me to do the whole thing with them, I think just so they could get a girl to do it. They are pretty funny.

So I got up and ran 5.16 in the morning before work!! Can you believe it!! I was just as surprised as you all. But even at 5:15 in the morning when I ran past the city building the temp on the billboard said 67 degrees... Yuck, we are having some record breaking temps. I really need to make sure I try my best to get my running done in the mornings. Then I ran about 1.25 miles in my engineers BRAT race. Fun but very hot! For being the first girl to participate in the race I got a bike jersey and a pool float. It was pretty crazy! Hope I get a good nights sleep and hope to see a few bloggers at TOU half tomorrow! On a side note: One of my ultra marathon friends asked that I pace another friend for about 16 miles of the Wasatch 100. I have not given my answer yet, I'm nervouse to do it. I ran and trained to pace my friend before he died, but when he ran in the Wasatch 100 he DNF'd before he got to where I was going to pace him. I have also worked at the Brighton aid station one year. So not sure what I will do... I told him I needed to go on some training runs with them.

Top of Utah 1/2 marathon (13.1 Miles) 01:50:35, Place in age division: 7
Got up super early... Sue's husband drove us up to Logan. This was the first time for Sue to run in a race since her injuries 1 1/2 years ago. She was supper excited, I think she said she got about 2 hours of sleep. After we stretched we headed up to the start. I saw speedy Mr. Walter getting ready and told him good luck. He was the only blogger I saw all day. The first 6 or so miles is down Blacksmith Fork's canyon. It was very pretty and a nice down hill grade also towards the mouth a good breeze. 8:35, 8,20, 8:13, 8:26, 7:59, 8:03, then you were running through a nice little rural area with farms and darling houses. These miles felt pretty good still but I could really feel the difference from the down hill, to now the more flat and rolly 8:17, 8:07, 8:24, really stared to feel my left heel aching and just an overall feeling of wanting to be done. Tried alot in the next little while to set my thoughts on picking people off so that maybe it would take my mind off from the pain the my left heel. 8:54, 8:29, 9:17 (I think this was a combination of a water station and a hill that really slowed my time) Last mile I could see the finish and got the old horse to the barn thing going 8:07, last .10 8:12. I don't think they have posted the official times so I don't know my overall place in the race. I did see my time and age group place. If I remembered wrong I will change it when they post the offical times. Overall this is a PR for my so I was very happy!! It was a beautiful day and I enjoyed being with my friend... it was all topped off with a PR... who could ask for more!

Did not sleep very well last night, but I still got up and ran before work!! That is a huge accomplishment for me considering the way I have been lately. I fiddled around a bit too much but got out the door at 5:15 am that just leaves me around 45 minutes to run. It was a pretty good run I think my AP was 9:20 so that is good, but my left heel was still buggy. I iced it at work and I will do it some more before bed. I was planning on going to the gym after work and doing some weights and a bit more running... but I had to drop of a doll to my sisters that I finished. She sews costumes for me. Anyway her daughter is in rehab and her husband is also having trouble. (The husband is nothing new, but the daughter in rehab is) she has been watching her grandkids and I knew she was stressed... so I ended up listening to her for too long and didn't get to the gym. I knew after about 10 minutes when she followed me out to the car and stood in the heat for another 5 minutes that I was going to be there for a while. But I guess she needed to vent a bit and have someone to listen to her. I love my sister very much... I get very sad when I see what is happening with her family. Tomorrow I'm rock climbing after work again... so I guess that will be a bit of strenghth training right?

| | Got my run in before work again! If Carolyn in the President of Jun's sub-6 club, and Sno is the VP... I think I'm getting to be the secretary LOL!! Legs felt more tired today then yesterday... but I also did a different loop that I think has more hills, so maybe that was part of it also. After work I channeled my inner Jun and went rock climbing with some co-workers. I made it to the top of both climbs this time and I think I did it a bit faster and maybe even with a bit more technique. Anyway it was pretty fun!

| | Another sub-six morning!! But it was a very difficult morning/day. I usually have all my running stuff set up so I'm not hunting for things in the morning, but I got home later then usual because of the rock climbing and I forgot to set things up. Then I had some potty issues... maybe I should be getting up earlier... but I just don't think I will be able to. So I knew that I was hurting for time so I tried to do my route faster... nope not happening... legs were like lead!!! So I muddled through 5.32 miles before work... then went to the gym and slogged out 2 more on the treadmill. I also did some core work. But I was have been very sore today (arms and back) probably the climbing, but I don't remember being this sore last time... Maybe just a bad day? Here's to hoping that tomorrow will feel better. laps in the morning: 8:56, 9:34, 8:33, 9:04, 8:38, (.32) 8:16

| | Another morning run before work!! Got out the door on time but then a little over a 1/2 mile I had to run back to my house for a quick potty break :( Maybe soon I will get all the kinks work out of this new schedule. It was a pretty nice run... I had a near miss when a car didn't see me at an intersection. The thing that surprised me was that I was at least one step into the intersection when they turned right into me. It's hard to see in the dark if they see me. I usually try to make some sort of eye contact with the drive to confirm that they see me... but I think I will just always assume that they don't. Even with a headlight and a flashing tail light they didn't see me. I'm surprised when I see other runners at this time of morning that have no lights. laps: 9:07, 9:40, 8:11, 8:38, 9:27, (.66) 8:25, 5.66 miles - 50:38

Lately I have been on a kick of trying new things and I'm trying very hard to not to be so fearful of change or trying new thing. I have been reflecting on this for a while and have come to the conclusion of why I'm feeling this way. It will be 5 year anniversary of the death of my friend in just a few weeks. He was one of the most fearless people I know. I remember thinking at his funeral that I really needed to try to incorporate some of this in my life. I guess this is why I have been doing to rock climbing. I have also been entering my art into more competitions and trying to get it in more publications. So my work had a forced day off today and a few of the ladies that I work with ask me to go with them to have a girls night out. One girl has a trailer on some land up in the mountains and 4 wheelers etc. I am usually not someone to go along with anything like this. My husband has said many times that I'm not very social... again it's a fear based thing, and 4 wheelers are certainly not something I have ever done. I had a great time even though I got dumped off the 4 wheeler. I sknned up my leg pretty good and my neck is got hurt a bit... I think just a bit strained from the impact of falling. My plan was to run in the morning but my neck was still a bit buggy. When I got home I had a haircut appointment and I even was brave enough to get a different hair style!! Pretty crazy!

| | My neck still bugged a bit but I took some meds. and that seemed to help. My running friend wanted to run trails today! So we ran the shore line trail above Ogden. My husband came with me and walked the dog in the trails while we ran. Beautiful morning and very nice run. We both seemed to be struggling this morning, and trails always seem to slow us down anyway. This is a low mileage week... Oh well I hope next week will be better. AP:11:06 7.71 miles - 1:25:30

| | No sub six this morning... but it was lovely to sleep in :) Had a nice run today got to do a bit longer then I normally would be able to because of the holiday!! I always have trouble taking my meds. like I should when I'm on break from my normal schedule, I need to be careful about this, because my legs were feeling pretty tired and heavy again on the hills and I was thinking it might be because of that. For the most part it was not too bad of a run. 8.06 miles - 1:10:24 laps: 9:23, 8:47, 8:32, 8:30, 8:20, 8:32, 9:27, 8:23

| | I'm really hating trying to remember my run in the morning almost ten hours after I have run it... But I guess this is my new routine. I miss having more time to scan the blogs and feel like a part of the community. Anyway 5.66 miles in the morning before work, about the only thing I really can remember right now is that it is getting noticiable cooler in undeveloped areas of my run. Funny how houses and stuff make it warmer. Oh ya I got a bit spooked my some horses... not that they did anything, just in the dark they somehow seem a bit creepy to me. laps: 9:12, 9:16, 8:16, 8:35, 9:08, (.66) 8:35 After work I went to the gym and did a little bit of circuit training... I guess thats the best thing to call it. By the track they have some weights and mats, so I would run some fast laps... then do some core work... then run some more fast laps... then do some arms... etc. until I got in about 2 more mile. Hope everyone is having a great week :)

Today did not feel good!!! I really really really did not want to get up and run. I even stood on the porch for a brief second or two thinking I would just turn around and go back to bed… “But you are already dressed… just start!!” “Just go back and maybe you will be able to fall asleep for a bit.” I finally just started… It was a forced short, slow run. I should say easy but effort wise it seemed very hard. I usually pack my gym bag so that I can get a few more miles in at the gym, but I told myself “NO” take it a bit easier today and just do the one run.
On the positive side, I saw two shooting stars… it was a beautiful morning even though I was grumpy. I was just passing another runner when I saw the second shooting star. She was going the opposite direction from me. I yelled out to her that there was a shooting star, and inadvertently flashed her in the face with my headlamp. I don’t think she was too happy with me.
I’m getting used to the new headlamp. Because of the strap across the top of my head I have had to find new ways to wear my hair. Today I looked like Princess Leah on crack LOL!! But it made it much easier today to run. The strap stayed in place much better. Not that I care too much about the way I look when I run but it’s probably a good thing I have been running in the dark.

| | I got up to run... I even got dress and had my garmin on my arm... but I just could not put on my shoes and get out the door. I was so pathetic this morning. I think three nights of not very good sleep has caught up with me. I sat there looking at my shoes for a while, then laid back in bed in my clothes. Soooo pathetic LOL So my run today was after work. I thought it would be uncomfortably hot, but it was not as bad as I thought. I don't know if I forgot to turn off my garmin in the morning but it was dead so I had a low tech run. I ran my usuall loop on the parkway and I think it's about 7 miles. I kept it slow and easy!! I only saw one of my regulars (the not Willey Nelson guy and his wife) I passed them three times between potty breaks and the turnaround point and I waved and smiled each time... I got no responce from either of them. It made me miss my other regulars. Who are always so smiley no matter how many times they see me. I don't have laps or time... it was very weird to not have my garmin on. I kept looking at my wrist and when I had to stop for potty breaks I kept wanted to stop it. LOL

I slept very well last night… so well that I don’t remember turning off the alarm. Fridays are slower days at work so I snuck out at lunch time to have a run. It was crazy hot today though. I really was not ready for the temps to be that hot. The path by my work is a bit less shady and there was no breeze what so ever. Needless to say I was a sweaty mess when I got back. We do have showers here so that is good. I’m kind of self conscious about being in my running clothes here at work, and just running at work period. So I make sure I change in the bathroom closest to the doors I need to go out of. I also try to make sure I leave when most people have already left for lunch. Today when I came running back to the door, there was a big group of people having a work related lunch together… AGHHH I went out into the parking lot so I would not have to run right by them on the side walk, but they were all looking any way…. I gave them a big cheesy grin and hurried into the doors… so embarrassing!

Looking at the laps now I can see that besides the heat, I was probably running too fast. I was meaning to have an easy run today. I think I really need to start working on making my easy runs easy. A question to the masses… when you are planning an easy run, do you just monitor your garmin and make sure you are staying within your target? How do you know what your target is for an easy run? |

| | I was on my own today... Sue had other obligations. I went to the parkway and ran to the top then crossed the street and ran the birdsong trail, I think it's was about 2 miles on the trail. There was a big group of women running on the trail. They are Ogden's elite women runners. The one in front was Anna Judd. She won the Ogden marathon this year. So for a brief second I felt pretty good running with the fast ladies. Then I ran back down the parkway. It was crazy windy today so going down felt pretty good. As I was heading back up the parkway I realized I had miss calculated my turnaround point and I was going to be a mile short. By now the head wind was really taking it's toll on me along with a lack of fuel, so I was really starting to struggle. When the fast ladies passed me again looking strong and fast that was it... I was defeated. I struggled back to my car and didn't even try to get one more mile all I wanted was some food. When I got home my lovely hubby offered to make me eggs hashbrowns and toast!! He is wonderful!! So I'm off to lock myself in my doll room. I have started a sculpture for my oldest sisters birthday. It's not til Feb. 5th, but between holidays and time constraints I know that I need to start working on it now. Have a great weekend bloggers :) 9 miles - 1:24:39 average pace - 9:24

Today I ran before work!!! I was planning on climbing after work with my co-workers, but it got canceled due to some other obligations, and the weather is getting rainy so it was probably for the best.
About 1 mile into my run I was back at my house for a potty break… it would be nice if I could make it through a run lately without needed a potty break. Anyway for the most part it was a good run, felt pretty good most of it. I struggled a bit on the two hills. Legs started to hurt and breathing was getting hard… don’t really know what that is about.

I had a horrible stressful night and could not sleep... so I didn't get up early and run even though I was awake. I had a few weird episodes of nausea and dizzyness in the morning at work. | | A OK run... didn't feel very well, and had a tiny touch of nausea. I had a massage and the guy that works on me works out of the human performance lab up at Weber State University so after I was done I decided to just run around up there. I ran the Bues pond. It's a nice little park with a pond and a path that is just over a 1/4 a mile. I would run one lap at medium/hard effort the one at easy. I wonder if one day I will be able to have consistent days of easy eights or tens like some on the blog. |

For those of you that have been worried about me… sorry for being absent, but I will explain what has been going on.
I had a big fat 0 on Thursday because I just could not get out of bed, and then I had a work banquet that night. I have been at this company for 15 years in November. Pretty crazy! I got a run on Friday… nothing too great just an easy one, and same with Saturday morning.
So I have been having a VERY stressful week. I have not been feeling very well either. My husband started a week long vacation on Saturday and I knew that he really wanted to get away and do something fun. I’m usually not very good at being spontaneous. But Saturday morning after my run we packed up and took both our mothers and our youngest daughter and drove to Vegas! So my runs on Monday and Tuesday were on the Vegas strip!! I got my butt slapped on Monday as I ran through an intersection! Pretty wild! We took my mother so she could visit one of he brothers that she has not seen in a few years. We took my mother-in-law because she loves to gamble just like my husband and our youngest daughter just so she could have some fun also. My youngest son could not get off work, so he stayed home.
I had a wonderful time! I relaxed by the pool and read my book. We did all three rides on top of the Stratosphere Casino, and saw three shows! It felt really good to just decompress after last week. The one thing that was probably bad was all the food that I ate! Holy Cow! Yep I probably ate as much as a cow!
So today I ran before work… parent teacher conference tonight. Didn’t get a lot of miles in, but it was an OK run. I’m still experiencing some quick but strong bouts of nausea at times, it’s kinda weird. I had some tummy issues this morning, but I think that had more to do with all the junk I ate over the weekend. So it’s back to being more watchful of my diet and I hope it helps with both the tummy issues and maybe the nausea issue. It took me a while to feel warmed up to run this morning… still a bit achy even at the end.

The plan today was to run my warm up to the 21st street pond. Then do three miles at 8mm pace with a .25 rest between. Then run back to my car. I took the auto lap off the garmin so that I could make the laps myself.
My execution of the plan: I ran 1.75 to the pond...at 8:56 pace. I seem to have a problem with my warm ups... I think they are always a bit too fast. I ran until my garmin read an even mile marker so that I would not have to do too much math LOL. 1 miles at 7.51 pace. So for my first mile I was probably a bit too fast... this was difficult by the end I was ready to slow down. .25 at 9:59 pace. I had to walk a bit to catch my breath. Next 1 mile fast at 7:49 pace... again this was very difficult by the end lungs and legs were burning! .25 at 10:04pace, had to walk a bit... as I was getting closer to my last fast bit I was really dreading it, but kept telling myself just one more. Last 1 mile at 8:13... at about .25 to the end of the last fast mile I really started to hurt! My left hip joint and pubic bone felt like they were on fire! I should have stopped but I wanted to make the entire mile. .33 at 11:01... this was suposed to be .25 but I was hurting so much I forgot to hit the lap button. Last 1.90 miles was a slow limp back to the car. I was seriously hurting and still am! I'm so upset that I'm this out of shape! I finally try to do a serious work out and not just my usual run, and I end up hurt, and to top it off I signed up for a race Saturday!!! CRAP!!! I will see how I feel tomorrow it I run or not. How do you know if you have just a pulled muscle or something more serious. When my running friend had pelvic stress fractures she said she could not stand the one leg that hurt. So I stood on my left foot and I can do it with out too much pain... she said she could not even lift her foot off the ground. So I'm thinking its just a pulled muscle. But it hurts now to just sit or walk. :( I'm just so completely sad and angry with myself.

But after the way I was feeling yesterday after trying to do some fast miles, I decided that I will just run the race. Not much to talk about... there wasn't even any fun/weird people at the gym tonight :( |

Earlier this week I had planned on running in the morning before the race, it started at 3:00PM. But after having trouble Thursday I figured I better take it a bit easier. So I met up with my running friend at the buses, she was already worried about the heat. The first 1/8 mile of the race is going up a hill and is was a very quick transition from the parking lot to a single track trail, so it was difficult trying to get around people that were going slower then I wanted. The path widened a bit and I was able to get around quite a few people... this was were I lost my running friend. The next area was the rolling trails of the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. It was wonderful! I love this trail and to be doing it in a race was extra fun! There was a aid station at the trail head parking lot. Then we had to run through a neighborhood for a few blocks, then we ran the birdsong trail. This is a newer tail that I have not ran on as often but I have in the past few months, because it's at the top of the parkway, so sometimes when I run there and want to add a few more miles I have ran this trail. The trail ends up at the top of the parkway and the last part of the race is the same as the Ogden marathon. As I came out on to the road I was really struggling, the heat was starting to get to me. I finished feeling pretty good. The hip did OK and I'm pretty happy all in all with the day. I didn't get home til later... We had dinner down town and walked around the festivities. Then I had to come home and help get my daughter ready for the homecoming dance. A pretty busy day. Tomorrow all the kids will come over for a joint birthday party (Husbands was the 19th, oldest son's today and oldest grandaughter's is Monday) another busy lovely day :) Laps: 11:49( trying to get around the people and hills) 8:45, 8:15, 8:39, 8:32, 9:00, 8:53 started to struggle at the end. I don't think I have run the trails that fast before :)

| | Ran after work today. It was a bit warm, about 83, but weather forecast says it will drop by about 20 degrees in the next 48 hours. As I was driving home the mountains have a lovely orange/red glow about them. The leaves are changing fast. Sue and I will run the green pond trail this Saturday, I can't wait, it should be beautiful!! My hip today was bugging for about the first mile or so then it seemed to ease up a bit. But I took it very easy tonight. Even at my easy pace I had some breathing issues though. It was like I could not get a deep breath. All my breathing was in my upper chest. I only saw one of my regulars tonight and I think I will rename him as my stalker regular. He seemed a bit too happy/smiley to see my LOL. Did some light weights and core work back and the gym. The weird guy with the nose ring was there tonight.

| | What a crazy day... When I got to the gym I had not packed my running shoes... so I had to head home and run around the hood. The other thing that was bad was I also could not find my garmin.... I was going crazy!! I had had it on Tuesday when I ran outside, but Weds. was a quick 5 on the treadmill at the gym, because of the sister date. I was certain someone had taken it. I could not sleep at all thinking about it. So I had to go out on map my run.com to see what the miles were for this run. I was real slow and had tummy issues in the middle. |

| | Continued from yesterday... I took off work today because it's our 29th anniversary!!! 29 years married to a good man :) I went to the gym to see if I could somehow by a miracle find my lost garmin... I have pretty much torn my house and car apart at this point. No luck, so I ran the parkway a bit... plagued with tummy issues so I cut it short. My husband had told me when I got home he would order me a new garmin for our anniversary. Like I said he is a good man :) But I was really sad and angry that it had been lost or stolen at the gym. Anyway to make my long story come to an end. As I was pulling into my drive way, the girl that works the front desk at work called me. My garmin must have fallen out of my gym bag when I was walking to the car from work!!! I'm so glad it was found!!! Happy weekend bloggers and to those that are raceing Good Luck!!!

| | I ran Green Pond loop with Sue this morning. I was chilly at up there... about 35 degrees. But I over dressed and was got too warm about 1 mile into it. The fall colors were glorious up there I love this run!!! It's one of the last runs I did with Scott before he died. Sue and I talked about how much fun that run had been. Today was similar conditions... frost on the leaves when we started. When we got to the maples/icebox canyon intersection we decided to run down into icebox canyon. It's probably been 3-2 years since I have run down there. Again is was absolutely lovely. The only down side to the run today was that my breathing is still weird. Like I can't take a deep breath. So it made it difficult to run. Then I had a stabbing pain between my right sholder blade. So bad I had to stop at one point and have Sue try to rub it out while I streatched. It helped a bit. But I'm not going to complain any more. Today was beautiful... the kind of day that reminds me why I'm a runner.

Tonight was a much better run then the past week has been. I'm blaming the last week on hormones... nuf said. I ran the parkway but decided to try to fast miles in the mix. 1 8:44 - still having trouble making my warm-up at slower miles. 2 8:37 - still just supposed to be taking it easy. 3 8:15 - This was my first mile picking up my pace. I was hoping for 8mm but it was a rolly uphill part of the route. Effort was hard 4 9:02 - slowing it down 5 8:33 - still easy, I have turned around and it's a rolly down hill now. 6 7:51 - picked up the pace... as you can see still mainly down hill. 7 8:33 - slow down .30 8:45 more slow down back to the car and almost getting hit as a huge truck pulls out of a parking lot. I let him know I thought he was number 1. I don't think he even saw me.

| | Nice easy miles tonight after a wonderful massage! Kept it at about a 9:20 pace for the miles. Today when I got to my desk at work there was a Runners World magazine on it. The name for the subscription had been blacked out, but I could still read it. It was the name of one of our Vice Presedents. He resides in Sweeden so I was surprised to see his name. Anyway someone in the mail room had inked out his name and wrote mine :) What a fun gift for some one to give me :) On other wonderful news my 19 year old son is going to school for auto body. He was been trying to get a job in the field but has not had much luck, until today!! He was so happy. It's great to see him do something that he seems to have quite a passion for. I'm hoping having this job will let him see if this is truely where he want to be.

| | I guess I can call this an almost easy 8. Hopefully in time they will be easier, but for now I'll take is as an pretty easy 8. I have not run the lower part of the parkway in a while so that was the plan. I circled the 21st street pond 4 times. As I rounded the pond you could look through the trees and see the mirror perfect reflection of the mountains. Just as I was getting done with my last lap I could see one other couple of people on the other side of the pond. Other then that I was all by myself. It was so pretty... perfect weather. Went back to the gym and did some core work. laps: 8:55, 8:55, 8:35, 8:33, 8:26, 8:27, 8:39, 8:27, (.13) 8:55

| | Nice run tonight... ran the upper parkway. As I was coming back from my turn around point I knew that there was a nice hill that I thought would be good for some hill sprints. So I don't know how and didn't plan for it so I didn't mess with my garmin... just ran them. So it turned out that there was a tree at the top of the hill and a tree at the bottom that were my marker. I would run as hard as I could to the top... turn and walk back to the other hill. I did this 5 times. I don't know if this is how you are supposed to do them or if they are doing my any good. But every time I got to the top my legs and lungs were burning... so I figure it's a pretty good thing. There is a running store along the parkway and I stop in there sometimes if I need a potty break. I figured out I just passed the 500 mile mark of my shoes, so I stopped in to see if they had my Asics because last time I was shoe shopping all the local store were complaining of running out of the shoes I love. Turns out they don't have them so I told the owner I would be back Saturday to try on others and see what will work. I'm very bummed. I know the owner and have run with him several times... really nice guy. Tonight when I was talking to him he looked different to me, I realized he had over groomed his eyebrows. Men should not have overly arched eyebrows, it makes them look to feminine and in some ways strange. Then when I got back to the gym to streach and do abes they had tables set up letting you try all these drinks and stuff. There was a man behind one of the tables that had the largest and weirdest muscles I have every seen in person. He looked like a cartoon... so weird. I thought to myself he was not a good choice for that company to promote what they were selling because I can't imagine anyone wanting to look like that. Oh well that is just my weird observations tonight. Nice run... a bit cooler they last night and a few more clouds. Had just the tiniest bit of sprinkles at one point in my run. 7.34 miles - 1:05:24 laps: 8:39, 8:26 (need to slow down my warm-up miles) 9:00, (should have been faster here) 8:41, 10:56 (LOL I'm pretty sure this was my hill sprints, the walking back really made my mile slow... either that or I realy stink at hill sprints) 8:39, 8:18 (wanted to speed up a bit at the end) (.34) 8:06

Snuck out lunch to get my run in, I hope this will give me a bit more time at home to get some things accomplished before the weekend. Nice run for about 95% of the run. As lucky as I am to be able to run on a beautiful parkway by the river at lunch, I still hate the gravel and railroad that I have to run on to get to it. It's only the first 1/2 mile and last 1/2 mile though so I'm not going to complain. But today that last bit was particularly difficult... I guess my legs were more tired then I thought. Kept it pretty slow and easy.

| | An almost easy 8 again... my hip was buggin a bit the first 2 or so miles. Then it seemed to ease up, but as I was walking to the car it was bugging again. Don't really know what this is all about. Not to painful just kinda catchy. Ran around the park in the center of town (where the marathon ends) before I started up the parkway. Man there are a weird bunch of people out there. I probably could have run around the block a few more times just to watch and see all the people (best was an older lady with a big gray beehive type hairdo in biker clothes... I have to say she was pretty fit looking but strange also) The parkway was nice but none of the regulars were out tonight. 8.04 miles - 1:09:01 AP 8:35

I needed a change of scenery tonight, so I ran through the city and up to the cemetery where my friend is buried. I stopped and had a chat with him... no tears tonight just a "happy birthday" and a "I still miss you". His birthday was last week... and the anniversary of his death was a few days ago. Then I ran around the cemetery for a bit. Ogden cemetery is an old cemetery with lovely markers. It was overcast and gray today so kinda weird to be in a cemetery when it's like that. After I went out on the road for a bit til I hooked into the lower part of the parkway and back to the car. Took it easy tonight because my hip is still bugging. I don't know if I should be worried or not... I think I will take it easy for a few nights and see how it feels.

Another try at doing hill sprints. I made sure that I had turned off the auto lap so that I could time the sprints. But I must be technically challenged because I think I hit the wrong button a few times. It was a beautiful night for a run and even though my legs felt tired and sore, I think due to insufficient stretching, I felt pretty good for most of the run. I ran up the parkway and it must be young love night on the parkway. There were quiet a few young couples holding hands or necking on the park benches. A few of them looked way to young and I almost yelled at them to go home and play with their barbies and GI Joes. Is it just me or I young people in a big hurry to grow up. Any way I digress... I turned around at the three mile mark and then I wasn't quite to the 4 mile mark when I started my hill sprints. Like I said I think I hit the wrong buttons a few times, but here are what I think my times were on the sprint.
1 - 26.25 sec - 7:55 this the distance of the sprints I did last week... obviously to long
2 - 17:83 sec - 9:17?? don't know what happend here I readjusted the distance, but it's still too long, but somehow I'm getting slower??
3 - 10:99 sec - 8:39 better on the time so now I know from where to where it will be ten sec. Bit still not fast.
4 - 11:00 sec - 8:04 a bit better
5 - 10:80 sec - 8:31? Do I have any fast twitch muscles... it dosn't look like it :(
6 - 11:15 sec - 8:29
7- 11:43 sec - 9:08 went too long, starting to slow even more :(
8 - 14:59 sec - 8:05 too long again but faster... maybe I need more time to get up to speed?
So am I doing this wrong? Do I need to do shorter faster steps? Longer strides? Or just give up because I'm somehow genetically just slow.
Ran back to the gym and made a better effort to stretch, then headed home. Did anyone else see the sunset? It was fantastic... like the clouds were on fire!! So Beautiful :)

| | Just a nice run tonight. It felt pretty good and easy but I didn't really want to go to far. I ran down the parkway and around the 21 street pond. I was beautiful! I took a few pictures with my phone that I will try to post on my blog. (The link is at the side) I never run with my phone and I don't know if I will do it very often. I got a new phone that is smaller then my old one and I thought I could squeeze it in that little pocket in my running shorts. It worked for the most part but slipped out a few times and I had to hurry and catch it before it fell. One funny thing happened tonight. I had stopped to take a picture and had just put my phone back in the pocket. I was about to start running again when I hear this really pretty music... I kept looking around to see where it was coming from... then it stopped and there was a guy walking towards me, I asked him if he heard the music... he looked at me very strange and said sometimes I just hear voices and kept walking. Then there was the music again... now you all know where this is going... it was my phone. I realized it the second time. I almost ran after the guy to let him know it was my phone and I'm not crazy but I let it go. 5:03 miles 45:01 Forgot to turn back on the lap button after my run yesterday... but my AP was 8:57. It also says my Max was 6:14... OK how can I run that fast when I'm taking it easy... and so slow when I was trying to go fast yesterday???

That's usually how it is, but it actually got calmer. I had so much fun when I ran around temple square. On the west side of the block all the leaves had piled along the side walk on that side, so I was running and kicking all the leaves and crunching them... I don't know if it was really easy though, I was getting tired by the end. Tried to keep it at about 9mm and I think I did pretty well. Had to stop and have a potty break at about mile 7. Then when I was coming back down the path, the sun was setting and it looked absolutely beautiful! When I looked to the east the mountains look bright red due to the sunset... so cool. There were a few placed along the path that I was running on the yellow brick/leaf path :) all the lovely golden leaves are starting to fall and the path is covered in a few places... so much fun. On the bad side... the PF in my left heal was bugging almost the entire run... time to get more dilligent with the icing. Hips felt better though... I think because I was at a slower pace. 9:04 miles - 1:20:20 Laps: 9:05, 9:05, 8:44, 8:43, 8:43, 9:02, 9:00, 8:49, 8:53

I needed to do something different tonight. Mentally just was not in the frame of mind to do any type of running. I decided that I needed to somehow incorporate weights into one of my days. I’m not very good at doing them and as I get older I know that it’s something that would help me. With that said this was my circuit/Yasso workout.
Two mile warm up – kept it at a 9:30 pace
First Yasso – 3:58
Then off the treadmill and did bench and triceps dips
Second Yasso – 3:57
Biceps and overhead press
Third Yasso – 3:57
Squats
Forth – 3:58
Back and assisted pull-ups
Fifth – 3:55
Abs/planks and then cool down two miles 9:30
Felt good after I was done… I think I’m going to try and do this workout once a week or until I get bored of it LOL Don’t know if this is doing me any good… I tried to keep the circuit rather fast, probably only about 3-6 minutes when I’m doing the weights. Kept them pretty light so I could keep the reps faster, I completed three sets of 10-15 reps. |

| | Took it nice and easy tonight. The plan was to keep my pace at between 9:00 - 9:30. Because I had to be at work early a couple of days this week, and because they have us on a no OT rule I was able to be off work at 2:30 YEEEPPPEEEEEE! So I had my run... the showered and changed into my witch costume to meet up with my grand kids for my works trunk or treat :) It was fun to see my grand babies all dressed up sooooo cute!!! My run was just up the parkway as usual... I don't know if I have said it before but there is a skate park at one point along the parkway. I'm always amazed by the grace and balance it takes for them to weave in and out of those deep bowls. The way they fearlessly dive off the side with their bodies at parallel angles to the ground. My friend that died was a skateboarder and I was always stunned with his ability to do it. Laps: 9:13, 9:16, 9:16, 9:12, 9:07, 9:09

Todays run was... short... fast (for me) and painful.
I got out at lunch and did the loop around the airport from my office. When I run at work I always have in the back of my mind that I have to hurry... that I don't have much time. So I ran pretty fast and it didn't feel very good. Also the weather was clear skies and cold. I had been having trouble all morning at my desk feeling cold. Been having some restless sleep the past few nights. Even though I'm getting enough hours I think the quality of my sleep is not good. Anyway because I was already up... and because I'm babysitting my grandson today and didn't need to be up as early. I was able to run in the morning. And what a beautiful morning it was. I thought to myself that I probably didn't even need a head light because the moon was so bright. But I still had it... I'm too worried that cars won't see me. My left heel with the PF bugged for about the first mile then eased off. I almost went back home, but it eased off enough to keep going. Anyway my grandson is napping now... I'm still trying to figure out what I will do. The change in time has made it get too dark at the end of my run and I'm not comfortable running there when it's dark. Had a pretty crazy day… when you add just one more thing to your day it seems to make it all too busy! Got a slow and easy six miles in after my doctor appointment, it felt pretty good to just take it easy and zone out on the treadmill. The NP doctor that I go to is in SLC so I was late getting a run in. I didn’t want to run in the dark so I went to the gym I was surprised at how packed the gym is in the evening. I had to wait for a few minutes to get a treadmill.
The doctor tweaked a few of my meds. so we’ll see if it helps. Even though I have been feeling soooo much better. It’s so nice not to have the muscle aches and fatigue that I used to have. It’s a new experience to go to an NP doc. they are so different then standard doctors, after talking with her about some things I could do to help with some weight loss, she said “You also need to learn to love and embrace to new middle age body” At first I wanted to say “No way… to heck with that” I rethought about how true her words are. We really need to learn to love ourselves no matter where we are… maybe if I quite hating my body so much it will love me back… and we will heal and loose weight J
Hopefully this new attitude will also help me with the new sculpt I have been struggling with, at first she seemed to be coming together so well, but now I may need to amputate her leg to get things to work right. Oh and I made a big mistake going into a fabric store the other day… Remember I got a new sewing machine? I have been wanting to make some new projects, do I went to get some fabric…. I swear it’s like a drug….all the colors, patterns and textures!!! I was out of control…. I walked out 2 hours later and almost 100 dollars poorer. I think I need a 12 step program to help with my sculpting/crafting addiction.

Just as I was getting back to it he was getting on, so when I tried to get my water bottle and stuff, he got off. I told him it was OK but glad that that he got off. If it was not for this blog and knowing that Carolyn and Sno are out there running with me, I don't know if I would have ventured out this morning. I told myself just do three... then at least you won't have a 0 on the miles. But you all know how that is... once you are out there... by mile three you are warmed up and you figure you might as well do a bit more. It was a bit overcast this morning so it was dark, and at the turnaround point it started getting windy. Nothing too bad though. Left hip was bugging towards the end, I blame this on the quick turnaround from a night run to a early morning run.
There are a couple of positives... 1) I'm done with my run for the day! 2) I can't remember it now... but when I was running I know I thought of one more.

I had a class in Logan so I knew that I needed to make my circut training a bit shorter. I opted to cut .5 from my warm-up and cool down. I was still a tiny bit late :(
1.5 warm-up at 9:30 AP
.50 - 3:52
had to potty... then did three sets of bench
.50 - 3:51
3 sets of tricepts
.50 3:47
3 sets on two different back machines
.50 3:54
abs and planks
.50 3:50
bicepts and lunges
.50 3:50
1.5 cool down at 9:00 AP
Had to deal with another person getting on the treadmill I was using when I had left it to go do some weights. Again there were plenty of open treadmills so why get on the one that has a water bottle, a pen and paper (to write my times) and is all sweaty... Trust me on that one... it gets pretty gross by the end. |

My boss and about 1/2 of my department are out today so it was a prefect day to get my run in on my lunch break. legs felt pretty dead and heavy. I did the path that I like to do when I run at lunch. I had some tummy trouble and they have locked up the toilets on the path AGHHH so I had to go out on the road and find a gas station. Mind wanted to run more... legs said they had had enough.

| | Had a pretty good run... I ran down the parkway but only got a couple miles into it when I needed to find a potty...so I went out onto the road and then about .75 miles found a fast food place to have a potty break. Even though it was still light I decided to go back down the parkway. I love running here but there are no street lights so when it gets dark it's really not the best place to run. I snaked my way around the blocks back to the gym to make up for the miles I could not get on the parkway. I don't mind the cold temps, but I hate running in the dark! AP: 8:46

I was very late getting off work today. I had to tour a group of people around our facility. It was not suposed to make me late but they had way too many questions. This inturn made me late for my massage appointment, but luckily for me Nate did not have anyone scheduled after me so he waited for me. So all of that made me very late for my run... I ended up running on the treadmill at the gym and did the last mile barefoot. I think next time I do a barefoot run I will run on the indoor track at the gym. The treadmill tends to get a bit hot on my feet. I usually don't like the indoor track because I know that I will loose count and either short myself on miles or add too much. I guess adding to much would not be a problem. |

| | I got a late start to my run again! Had another tour to do at work, but I was better at keeping them on schedule today. But when I got the the gym to change my clothes I got caught up in a conversation with a young girl. We have talked before... we both have the same thyroid condition. But I guess she is having some difficulties now. So I talk with her for a bit to try and help her. don't know if I did any good. But after a bit I just gave her my email address and asked if we could continue the conversation via email. Hope I didn't offend. Ran up the parkway for a bit then around the city to make a bit over 6 miles... then did one mile barfoot on the indoor track. I think that is enough barefoot running for this week, my PF in my left heel started to bug a bit.

Ran on my lunch break today and it was very nice. I will try to run at lunch tomorrow also. I figured since I have been staying late to help with the tours I was a little bit more justified to run at lunch. Hopefully my boss feels the same.
Anyway even though my left heel was pretty buggy the entire run it felt so good to be out in the sunny daylight! When I run here at luch there are a few different routs I have. Most of the time I run down the unused train trakes to get onto the parkway. You can go either south or north ( I usually go south... I think I can get more miles that direction) So I ran north today and there was some workers paving some of the the trail that has not been paived. I got to be the first person to run on the new asphalt! It was steal warm in places. Running this direction also has the draw back of the live train track that you need to cross, and sure enough today there was a train. So I back tracked a bit to let it pass. I have been yelled at by workers before. The tracks are ellivated to the path so I thought it was better to stay out of sight til the train had passed. I had the fort to myself and circled the pond twice. Then I needed to circle the parking lot just a bit to make it an even 5.
If I run this direction tomorrow... I might go out onto some other paths to try to get the milage I want.
I think my AP was 9:05... I slowed quite a bit in the last mile, I think this was when I reall started to feel my heel... so off to get my frozen water bottle for my feet. :) have a happy Thursday bloggers! |

| | Skipped out at lunch time again to get my run in. I ran down into the fort again... and it was great! I have always noticed a sign that said "Kingsford Wetlands Loop" and had alway wondered what it was about so I decided to go exploring today. It's a nice little dirt trail and a couple of wooded bridges around a little pond with lots of cattails. There is a big steep hill at the back end of it... tons of fun!! The I ran the outer path in the fort... felt pretty nice. I thought that I had turned off my garmin but whe I got back to my desk to enter this run I looked at it and it was still running. So needless to say that wonked up my AP for the run LOL. I was a bit slower today I estimate that my AP was about 9:30. |

| | Well is it almost noon on Sunday and I've at last found a minute to blog about my Saturday run. I had put my garmin in a coat pocket and didn't remember until I was at Sue's house so this was a low tech run... We ran the parkway by her house... nice slow and easy. I have estimated the miles, it was probably a bit more but I'm happy with 8. I guess this was a low mileage week. Not too bad though with all the holidays and stuff coming up I hope I can maintain about 35-40 miles a week. Then I will start picking up more miles after the first of the year. |

I did my interval/speed workout tonight. 2 mile warm-up at 9:40 pace .50 @ 3:47 3 sets of bench .50 @ 3:50 3 set of bicepts .50 @ 3:52 Abs .50 @ 3:48 three sets of tricepts .50 @ 3:53 three sets on 2 different back machines .50 @ 3:52 2 mile cool down at 9:20 pace Felt pretty good tonight, no one tried to take my treadmill while I was off it doing my weights. When I was doing my cool down I was in between two barbie girls. I don't understand how some one can come to the gym all decked out like they were. Maybe I'm just jealous because by then I was a big sweaty mess. leaving puddles on the treadmill. It's pretty gross. Seems like they were just there for a fashion show. It sucked being between them. Oh well... at least I could beat them in a foot race, but not a fashion walk off.

| | Nice run today but boy my legs were tired. My left heel started to bug me the last couple of miles. I took off work today so it was sooooo nice to run in the morning... in the sun shine!!! :) even if this run was a bit of a struggle I still enjoyed it. Now off to do all the Thanksgiving prep around the house!! I hope to run the turkey trot at the hospital in the morning. It used to be 5 miles but since they have had to redue the course I think it's only about 4. That will probably be all the running I get in tomorrow. Laps: 9:11, 9:34, 8:21, 8:53, 9:40, 9:28, 8:46, (.50) 8:55 Surprised... I thought that I would have been well over 10:00mm because I felt much slower and heavy.

| | Got up to run the Turkey trot at the hospital, I have participated in this race for a number of year. So I was certain that the start time was 8am. I got there to find out that the race did not start until 9:10??? I think they change then time this year, because I don't remember it being that late before. With that tidbit of information I realized that I would not be able to participate. Between the run and the drive time I would be too late to get the turkey and everything going before out eat time at 2:00. So I donated my food and left. I ended up running my normal parkway loop with a bit added around the city park to see the decorations. All in all a pretty pleasant run except for the lady too busy on her cell phone to control Kujo from wanting my leg for breakfast. I was probably the most scared I have been around a dog in a long while. She did not seem to concerned at all. |

| | Well yesterday was a big goose egg for me. I woke with a headache and a few strong bouts of nausea. No throwing up though thank heavens. I think I had just over done it, I felt better later in the day but buy then I was way too busy with other things. Today I was by myself... I'm starting to realize that Sue and I are not on the same page when it come to training. I will probabaly always run with her when I can, but I will need to add more miles on my own if I'm going to train the way I need to, so I can accomplish the goals I have. Anyway the hardest thing about todays run was probably my mental attitude of getting out the door.... and the last mile didn't feel too hot. Other then that a pretty pleasant run. Should have had more miles this week, but I guess I'm OK with it. AP 8:56

Alot more people on the parkway tonight then last night. I was pretty much alone last night, until the end when I say one of my regulars. (guy in wheelchair w/wife) Tonight I didn't see any regulars. Got off the parkway just as the moon was rising. I only saw it for a bit before it was covered with clouds. Then I circled the temple block twice to get a bit more mileage in. | | I have had to flex some time at work and stay a bit later then normal... so I was on the treadmill tonight. Had one brief stop to adjust my ponytail... I hate when my hair is bugging me. Then I had a major stop at mile 4 to go potty. I think I kept my AP to about 9:00 tried to keep it easy. I think I have figured out what might have been the contibutor to my PF trouble. I think the new shoes I bought are what is causing my problems. I'm not going to wear them for at least a week and see how my feet feel. I also hope I can take them back and exchange them for some that don't make me want to cut my feet off.

Had a horrible night trying to sleep, I don't really know what the problem was. I'm sure I will crash pretty early tonight.

| | Ran trails with Sue this morning it was very nice, there were some icy patches on the north facing slopes and on the way back I slipped and fell. I landed on my big bottom cushion, and slammed my left elbow. Neither were really hurting too much but after about 1/4 a mile my lower back was hurting so I must have hit harder then I thought. Someone had hiked a bunch of Christmas decorations up and decorated a little pine tree, about 6 feet tall, that is just off the path. It was so fun to come running down the trail and see it. Our AP was very slow and got even slower after my fall... oh well it was still great to be up on the trails. Busy day with the gradkids, a Christmas walk later tonight with my Mom etc.... crazy!!! Hope you all have a great weekend!

Had a nice... all be it slow run out in the cold night. The first three miles were lovely the sun was setting and the moutains snow looked pink... I had the entire parkway to muself!! Beautiful!! I had my headlight so when I was out on the streets I felt a bit better knowing that I could see a bit better but most of all cars would see me better. I ran around the city to get a few more miles in. Ran around the Chistmas lights in the city park, it was pretty fun!
The one thing about running outside in conditions like this is that I never feel relaxed. Because of the slippy conditions you are always trying to make sure you don't fall. I find myself tensing up all over.

Not feeling too good... still have a sore throat, so I decided not to run outside. I also didn't have it in me to do my speed/circuit workout. I did do a simple progression run, started at 9:40 for a mile the 9:18 for a mile the 9:00 for a mile. Then I had to stop and potty. Back on the TM 9:00 for a mile, 8:30 for a mile the 8:00 for a mile. Then ran on the indoor track for a mile barfoot... very slow.
The plan is to run on my lunch break today (Friday). Still not feeling very well and I didn't sleep much last night. My Mother-in-law is in the hospital (She lives with us). Then hubby's snoring kept me awake most the night. I'll see how I feel in a few hours. |

Got out at lunch time to a balmy 20 degrees. It really was not too bad, the path was about 97% clear, with only patchy ice on the bridges and shady area. I had a couple of slips but no falls!! A bit of tummy trouble on the way back and all the potty are locked on the path. I don't understand why they do this! Not much coverage with the bushes all bare but thank heavens there were not many people down there.
Sue has already bailed on me for tomorrow. I will see how I feel in the morning as to what I’m up for doing. It’s supposed to start snowing tonight and not stop until Monday. I'm sure all the skiers and in heaven.

| | Well tonight was a crazy run. I will not be running on the parkway again for a while. It was either a sheet of black ice, or thick ice that has deep tire type ruts through it. I was sliding and rolling my ankles almost the entire time I tried to run on the parkway. I then ran around the city trying to find blocks that had clear sidewalks. The city block that has all the Christmas lights was by far the best. I circled it a few times. I think the people there thought I was nuts. I need to rethink where and how my running is going to be if these are the road conditions where I'm normally running. laps: 9:44, 10:27, 10:35, 10:24, 9:17, 8:52, 9:08, (.14) 8:55 You can see by the laps where I found dry pavement :)

| | I decided to try a new place to run since my slippery run last night was no fun. There are two Gold's Gym's that are within close proximity to my work, so I went to the one that I never go to. I changed and ran around the houses and neighborhoods close to it. There are two busy East/West streets that were a pain to cross, I had to make sure I was at a light, because there was so much traffic on those roads. Other then that is was great because the streets were clear and the traffic was not to bad. My dryer eat one of my smartwool socks :( I was soooo sad!! I have had them for a few years and love them in the winter. I had to be more careful at the puddles not to get my feet wet, oh and for some crazy reason I ran in shorts. Well the reason was when I was walking into the gym some cute little girl came running in with shorts on so I was thinking if she can it shouldn't be a problem. It really was not too bad until it started to snow a bit and blow. So I headed back to the gym and ran two miles on treamill. Then because my car is dying and I'm afraid I will be stranded. I have been carpooling with my husband. He is a UPS driver and this time of year works long hours. So I knew I had some time to kill and did about 20 minutes of upper body weights, lots of core work and lots of streatching. My left knee has been hurting alot today, I think I wonked it up on my slippery run last night. I hope it feels better soon. Laps: 8:34, 8:57, 8:44, 8:52, 8:52, 8:51, (.25) 9:24 treadmill: .50 at 8:30, .50 at 8:00, .50 at 8:30, .50 at 8:00

| | I think I over did it yesterday... My upper body is sore, my congestion is back, and my left knee hurts when I go down stairs or run down hill. (What does that mean?) I also had just a very lack luster attitude about running tonight. I was planning on doing my speed/weight circuit but that feel apart pretty quickly. So I did do a couple .50 at 8:00mm and 8:30mm. Other then that I kept is at about 9:00 - 9:20 except for the warm-up and cool down that was at about 9:40. I think I need some more rest... and tomorrow I will plan on an easy run! |

| | The congestion of my cold was worse today. When I get stressed out I tend to shut down, and the last few weeks have had some added stresses that I have been thinking about. My mother in law is back home but I'm reminded by my husband the extra time I need to take to make sure she is doing OK... My mother always reminds me that I'm not doing enough to make sure she is OK. Shopping for gifts that I'm worried will not be what people want or like. Knowing that I have less then six weeks to complete a doll/sculpture for my sister's birthday, and it's not working out! These are the things that are running through my head... Tomorrow Sue and I will run... then get breakfast and exchange gift. This is one of the other traditions we have had since we became running friends. I had to pick up one last thing for her present after work... as I was walking throught the parking lot to the store a car came around the corner and hit me.... not hard but I had to slam both hands one her hood and kinda jump around the side of her car as to not get hit hard. It was a young girl on a cell phone in a little Honda civic type car. She was not going fast and I didn't get hurt. But my reaction was to just turn and walk away... I started to tear up on the way into the store... this made me realize that I was very stressed. If I had not been so stressed I probably would have yelled at her. I also get quite when I'm stressed. After all that the mindless droning of running on the treadmill actually felt pretty good. I just set it for an hour and ran... no thinking about all the stuff that is stressing me.

| | Went to bed early and read my book... always a good way to destress! Sue and I had a wonderful run this morning. My garmin went dead during the run so I don't have the miles or laps but I figured it was close to 8. We ran the lower part of the parkway. There were a few icy places but the entire trail around 21st street pound was clear so we ran around it twice before we headed back up to the cars. Then we had breakfast together and exchanged our gifts. Great minds must think alike because we both bought each other Yaktraks LOL! I also got her some nice lotions and stuff, she also gave me a new headwrap with a ponytail hole then a pretty book mark. So you know what I'm going to be doing over Christmas shutdown at my work??? Running Trails with my new Yaktracks! Fun stuff... I'm feeling a bit better today... thanks to all you guys!! Have a great weekend! |

| | My cold is feeling better. But when I ran with Sue Saturday I had a sore throat and a bit of a cough. I think it was because of all the pollution, and today was even worse! Felt a bit better after a potty break, and ran 5 more miles. All the treats at work are not doing my tummy any favors. Kept the pace at 9:18. Today is the last day of work for the year!! Boy I had a crazy case of lead leg today!! And even though I could see blue ski and I even caught a glimpes of my shadow today, the temps didn't melt the ice and I was slipping around on black ice for about 70% of my run. Even with all that it felt so wonderful to get outside and run!! Well I'm off to spend some more time relaxing around... I will do some chorse but boy it's crazy nice to have the house to myself!! I even got in a long hot bath after my run... now that is paradise! laps: 9:12, 9:48, 8:48, 9:12, 10:11, 8:59, 8:54, (.20) 8:43

Today was an easy five... but very frosty! There was just the tiniest patches of blue sky scattered across the horizon, they got a bit bigger as my run progressed. Even though it felt colder today the road conditions were actually better. I think the hardest thing for me now is just the looming laziness that I'm feeling... It's so true that slothfulness is a sin, one that I'm really trying my best to overcome while on my vacation. laps: 9:28, 9:15, 8:55, 8:58, 8:23, (.15) 8:57

| | I was on my own this morning and I really did not want to run the roads, so I took my Yaktraks for their inaugural run on the trails. Holy Cow that was fun!!! The trail was a perfect single track ribbon of packed snow between sparkling powder. With the Yaktacks on there was absolutely no slipping so I could run the steeper uphills and down hills. I completely wore myself out! I was also completely alone until the turnaround point. I was streatching a bit when I lady come running in from the neighborhood that borders the trails. She kinda gave me a snubby look... I think she didn't like my sexy outfit LOL. I'm sooo joking... I had pulled a pair of my husbands bright blue gym shorts over my running tights, nothing like adding bright material to the widest part of you body. But they kept my legs a bit warmer. Anyway I let her pass and finished streaching. As I started running again, I could see that I was going to gain on her so I picked up my pace and ran past her. I tried to keep that pace for a while because it would have been horrible to have her pass me after I had passed her. But She didn't I could see her getting farther behind as we weaved in and out of the canyons. The Christmas tree that someone had decorated was still all decorated, with an added Thank-you note from someone... so cute :) There were more people as I got closer to the parking lot. Lots of people with their dogs, about got ran over buy the cutest lab puppy. Any way a slow 11:22 pace run but absolutely fun. I will have to go up there again before I go back to work! |

| | I had to take my son's car into the shop this morning so I decided to do my run while it was getting worked on. I knew the place was close to where I could get on the parkway, so it was about 1.25 miles to the 21street pond. Then I circled the pond for a while and went back. It was a nice way to get two things accomplished. It was COLD this morning, I don't think my hands quit hurting until about 2 miles into my run after that I felt better. Also I think the air quality was worse today then yesterday. We are supposed to get a storm tonight so I hope it blow some of the crud out. I wore my bright red jacket so there was at least a little color to the monochromatic gray world. laps: 9:05, 9:05, 8:46, 8:56, 8:50, 8:49, 8:52, 9:20, 9:19

| | Looks like no run today, I can't say it was totally planned but mostly. I have spent the day finishing a novel that I started a while ago and really needed to finish, and working on my sculpt she now has two legs, two feet that are all attached to her torso. Two hand/arm armatures made that I hope to have attached to her tomorrow, and a head that has a pretty good human likeness. I will be happy when I can get her finished. I stopped also to shovel the drive, walk and porch. So I was not a total slug. I will run the rest of the week and it looks like Sue and I will snowshoe with the husbands Saturday. Should be fun! |

| | I made my goal for the year plus two extra just for the fun if it :) Easy miles... kept it at about 9:00 - 9:15 mm. I will have to check my excel spreadsheet at work but I think that is about 200 more miles then last year. |
