| | Back to running after the foot, but I need to come back slowly. |
| |
I got new shoes today. They are the same as my first brand during xc freshman year- Mizunos. |
| |
| |
I swam two 500s for lifeguarding
| |
It felt good for not having run much in the past couple months. Somewhere between 8 and 9 minute pace. |
| | My first intervals in a long time. It was pretty short, luckily. First we did 5 200s, mine were :38, :42, :44, :41, :42 Next was a half mile of Indian runs, we did it in 3:37 I believe? Then 2 400s, :89 and :86 It felt like a pretty good run for my fitness right now. |
| | I was having some troubles. I've been sick for a few days and I could definately feel that I was dehydrated and my throat and eyes were sore. My calves were really tight, so I took the rolling pin to them. About 10 minutes after the run my body broke down and my eyes wacked out from the dust. It took me a few hours to recover, so I'm thinking no more big runs until I'm over my cold. |
| | Speed workout. We did 4 200s, mine were at 40-41 pace. Then we did 2 400s, 1:27 and 1:28, and wrapped up with a 200 relay thing (not timed). It was hard, I was glad it was a pretty small workout because I felt like my times were pretty good. |
| | Speed workout- we did 4 200s, my first was at :41 and the reast were at :40. Then we did 2 800s, my first was at 3:23 and the second I was being "chased" and got a 3:12. Then we did 1 400, 1:23. It felt like a pretty good workout but it wa hard to be the only girl doing speed today. |
| | four miles at Sugarhouse with Susannah. The hills gave me a little bit of trouble, but overall it was a pretty good run. |
| | 2 miles with the team, and 2 with Susannah at Sugarhouse. |
| | Susannah and I did two miles of speed changes. I won, but not against Susannah :) |
| Race: |
Run of the Leopards 5K (3.16 Miles) 00:22:12, Place overall: 16, Place in age division: 6 | | I PRd!! I was quite surprised, because I haven't had a lot of time to train, but it makes sense because it was a road race, a downhill course and it was fairly cold. I started out a little fast, my first mile was 6:45 and my average was 7:09. |
| |
| | Warm up, speed changes, and an 800 time trial- I did a 2:59, I wasn't feeling great. Then 2 mile cool down with Susannah. |
| | It was a freezing morning. When the snow hit the ground it became water, so there were a lot of puddles and I felt like I was doing a steeple chase! It was a nice run, though. |
| | Speed workout- 4,8,4, rest, 4,4,8. My pace had slowed down by the last 2 but I felt pretty good overall. I still really need to work on my arms, though. |
| | I ran through the U campus with Susannah and Bre. I had my new orthotics in for the first time running, and I'm wondering if that was why my muscles were a little fatigued. It may also have been that there was a fair amount of uphill and because of yesterday's workout. |
| | Track meet @ West, I did the 800, 2 mile, and 4 by 400. I didn't here any of my times but I think the 800 was about 2:56, 2 mile somewhere between 14 and 15, and my 400 I pushed but didn't get a time. My legs are a little sore from all the running on the track, but I thin I should be ok in a few days. |
| |
| | 1 mile down to Liberty, then 3 laps around with .5 miles on, .5 off |
| | Mexico is lovely, but I wouldn't want to be running in the neighborhood. No one I go with runs, and I discovered there is no treadmill at the gym. However there is an eliptical and a pool, so I guess this will just be a cross training week :) | |
| | Four easy miles, it felt pretty good after I got back but I am sick (I think from the food or water in Mexico, but it started on the plane to Salt Lake so it might have been in Houston). I ran with my dad. |
| |
I did a speed workout by myself today. I did 2 laps warm-up and 8 laps of J's. Then I was supposed to do 12 400s, but I only did 8 because I wasn't getting great times, it was getting really late, and for... other reasons (I am still sick if you catch my drift). Then I did two laps cool down. |
| |
I ran the 1 mile and the 2 mile, the 1 was 6:50 and the 2 was 15:04. I feel ok about it for the shape I'm in, besides I am still feeling sick- stomach and throat, maybe it is hayfever or the flu?
| | Today I did 10 200s with 40 second recovery, and then a 400, 200, 400, 200. My first 200 was 40, and the last two were 41 and 43, but the ones before that were under 40. My first 400 was 1:31, which I felt ok about, but the second one I died physically but mostly mentally. My throat was really gunky and I was having trouble breathing at the end, but I felt like I worked hard. |
| |
| Race: |
Central Orem Invite (2 Miles) 00:13:54, Place overall: 18
It was freezing and rainy, but I warmed up well and got a PR! To warm up Susannah and I ran to my aunt's house and back, because it was a little over half a mile from the meet. I felt pretty good during the race and passed a few people. |
| |
| | We did a set of 400, 600, 400 with 90 second recovery and then 400, 400, 600 with 90 second recovery. Then a 200. It felt pretty good. |
| | We did Legacy, but I took the scenic route so it was a little longer... |
| | I ran a meet at Olympus and did the mile, 800, and 4x400. My mile time was 6:38 and I came in 5th (I think). It felt pretty good. I got a PR in the 800 at 2:51. There wasn't bad competition so I came in first! I didn't really warm up for the 400, but it was fun anyway. |
| | I had some pretty bad shin splints that haven't been bothersome until today. Uggggh |
| | I did a speed workout at the track, I believe the same thing the team did yesterday. I was kind of sore, I think it is because I wore my orthodics on Thursday. I am not going to wear them again before region. I did a 2x800, 2x400, 5x200, and 5x100 with times about 5 seconds slower than my normal ones. |
| | I felt pretty darn good today. We did an easy workout, 4 400s w/90 second recovery, mine were 86's, and then a 200 at 35. |
| | Easy run in the morning. I'm excited for regions tomorrow! |
| Race: |
Utah Region 6 Region Meet (1 Miles) 00:06:35, Place in age division: 4 | | I had a good race and PRd by 3 seconds. |
| Race: |
Utah Region 6 Region Meet (2 Miles) 00:13:55, Place overall: 6, Place in age division: 6
One mile warmup, one mile speed changes. I started the race in 7 behind two girls from Murray. Then one of them dropped back, and on the third lap I passed the other one. I probably should have drafted her for a little longer because I could definately feel the wind coming around the next few times. She passed me in the last lap and outkicked me, but I was still in 6th so I'm going to state! I did a half mile cooldown with Susannah. |
| |
| | 4 easy miles in the morning |
| Race: |
Race For the Cure (3.16 Miles) 00:24:45
Race for the Cure was huge this year! About the first half mile I was weaving through walkers, I thought I started up far enough but I guess not. Then I took it easy to the finish, I didn't want to push too hard because state is in a week.
Later I did 3 easy miles with my dad |
| |
| |
After the AP test I went on a run on Shoreline with Susannah and Caroline. It felt really good, ahhh...
We did an easy speed workout for track practice. I did 4 200s at 39, 39, 39, 37 and a 400 at 1:25. Then Susannah and I ran to the gully and back for a cooldown. |
| | One mile warmup, one mile speed changes. Then 3 laps of fast straightaways, followed by 3 of curves, then half a mile cooldown. |
| |
To Shriners and back, good easy run
| |
1 and a half miles warm up, 8 strides, and 1 mile cooldown. State is in two days, and then it's xc season! |
| |
| | 1 and 1/2 easy miles and then strides. State is tomorrow! |
| Race: |
Utah State Meet (2 Miles) 00:14:00, Place overall: 19
It was not the best race. I had a strategy that I would stay behind the girl from Murray and push past her when there was 800 left- which I did. She has a really good kick though, and outkicked me at the finish. I should have passed her sooner so I could get some more distance on her, because the first mile felt too easy. But, it's a learning experience. I'm looking forward to xc season! |
| | I ran with my orthotics in the morning and I've been pretty sore the rest of the day. |
| |
I ran up the canyon with my dad and Lisa- it was quite the hill... It was really fun but on the way back down I got a side ache. |
| | I wore the orthotics and felt no ill effects, yay! We'll see how my calves are feeling tomorrow! |
| | I was a little sore, but not as bad as it's been before. |
| |
I ran with Susannah, so I pushed a little harder for an easy run than usual. Today was really, really hot. I wore my orthotics and got a little sore toward the end but other than that they were fine, yay! |
| | Greg and I were the only ones who showed up as far as I know, so we did Shoreline (actually, not really we- he ran a lot faster than I did). It was a pretty hot day but I love Shoreline, so it was all right. |
| | I was pretty sore from the trail run and the orthotics yesterday, but we just did Shriner's and the guys went up to the "U" on the mountain. It must have been far because they weren't back for a long time- I just left. Hopefully I won't be too sore tomorrow. |
| | I ran in the morning, but I was kind of sore... |
| | I took it easy and it was pretty flat, so it felt really good. |
| |
I ran up City Creek and it felt really wonderful! |
| | I ran in the morning with my dad. I didn't have my orthotics in, and it felt really good. |
| | I ran in the morning. It was nice and cool, I was worried about it raining but it only sprinkled. |
| | First team workout of the summer! It should be a great season! |
| |
In the morning I had a workout with the team. We did 5 strides and then 5 hills, and it felt pretty good. Then we played Ultimate Frisbee!
In the evening I did an easy 4 miles, but it didn't feel so good. It was not a good idea to go to Bajio and then go running, incidentally. |
| | We ran at Liberty Park. We did a lap warmup and then some strides. Then we did a timed mile, mine was at 7:09. I feel pretty good about it, because I haven't done much speed and I'm a little sore from hills yesterday. Then 2 laps cooldown. |
| | I had an off day, but I'm not sore. This week I am going to try wearing my orthotics every day. |
| | I had a pretty good run up at Bear Lake! They have a really good hinking and binking trail lined up with their main road that I used. The run felt all right, but my calves were sore for about the last half. |
| | I ran with my cousin 3 miles in the morning and with my dad 3.5 miles in the evening. |
| | It was a really nice run, I am back from Bear Lake and we went on the Pipeline trail. I love Pipeline- it's so cool and beautiful. |
| |
We did the cemetery loop, and when we got back we did 10 strides. It was pretty hot, it's definately summer...
In the evening I ran from my house around Sugarhouse. |
| | I was kind of sore from my mileage yesterday, but good overall. |
| |
Done in 3 segments. I had a busy day... |
| |
Four miles of hiking in the morning, so I halved it and am calling it two.
Afterward I went for a run, it was pretty hot around 10 this morning! |
| | I went around Wasatch Lawn and back. It felt surprisingly good for being the day I got back from camp. |
| |
My muscles were pretty sore from the long run on Saturday. |
| | 2 miles warm-up, then 10 strides with a small hill. Then we did fartlek, 3 on 3 off 3 times. I was feeling really good today. |
| | We ran up dry creek. Some parts weren't so "dry", but overall it was a really excellent run. |
| |
8 miles hiking= 4 miles running
| |
My foot was really sore in one spot from my hike yesterday, it hurt to put on shoes at all and I couldn't get rid of it. Thus, I swam for an hour and got my 500s out of the way, but I hope this goes away soon so I can start running again. |
| |
| |
We did the cemetery loop. I stayed with Susannah the whole time, though I must concede she slowed down a little for me and it still kicked my butt. However, I was still pretty proud.
In the evening I did 3 easy miles. |
| |
5 miles in the morning
4 mile hike in the afternoon |
| |
| |
5 miles in the morning
4 mile hike in the afternoon |
| |
It was pretty wet and cold, but still nice.
Afternoon hike, 4 miles. |
| | I took it easy, but it was still very, very hot. |
| | 9 mile hike, the last training hike we'll do before the Middle Teton. |
| |
I did all right until the drinking fountain, then I started feeling my soreness from yesterday. |
| |
Trail run on Pipeline. I'm still a little sore, but not bad.
Tonight I went on a 2 mile run, and my shin splint really started hurting, so I iced it afterward. |
| |
My shin splint started acting up, especially on the downhill, so I took it easy today and iced it.
In the evening I did 42 minutes on the bike. |
| | We did a warm-up, then a fast mile. I did mine in 7:22, but my shin was hurting so I didn't do any more timed stuff. Then I did a cool down with Susannah. I iced my shin afterward. |
| |
I went from my house and did 2 laps around Sugarhouse. The grass felt really good for my shin. I did 20 minutes of fartlek while there, 2 minutes on 2 minutes off. |
| | I climbed the Middle Teton. We did 16 miles + 6000 ft vertical each way, so I'm counting it as nine. It was really amazing- my first time with an ice axe, and a breathtaking view from the top. It was incredible, but a really long day! |
| |
I had a shin splint and was limping, so I'm not going to run until my shin isn't sore any more.
45 minutes of pool running in the evening. |
| | 40 minutes of pool running |
| | 45 minutes of pool running |
| | 1 hr pool running with Susannah |
| | 20 min swimming, 25 min pool running |
| | 45 minutes on the eliptical |
| |
2 mile warm-up, then we did 5 hills. My shin was hurting after those and the strides, so I did a shorter cooldown.
40 min pool running in the evening |
| | 2 laps around the gully, then 5 strides and 1 round of the circuit. Then we did farlek, 10 sets of 1 min on 1 min off. Last was a short cooldown. My shin was hurting a little during the warmup and then after the strides and the circuit, but other than that it was ok. |
| | Bike and run! It was a lot of fun, but we kind of got messed up on the way back and Greg ended up running more than I did...I also killed a few snakes on the bike, not intentionally of course. We won, so that was pretty great! Afterward we went to Eggs in the City. |
| | I turned around early for work, but then it turned out I didn't have to go in, so that was kind of irritating. However, it was a really fun run, I hope the freshmen come back! |
| |
2 timed miles, first at 7:11, second at 7:19
| | 11 miles biking on a trail right by Jeremy Ranch, coincidentally |
| |
4 miles in the morning
Then 38 min pool running |
| | 3.5 miles each in the morning and afternoon. Hills this morning, firemen this afternoon. |
| | 2 timed miles, first at 7:36 and 2nd at 7:48. It was really hot and not my best day, but I felt all right about it. |
| | 30 min swimming 30 min biking |
| | I was feeling great today- we worked out at Liberty and did 2 laps of firemen. |
| | Fartlek in the morning, 3 easy miles in the afternoon |
| Race: |
Pre-region (2.9 Miles) 00:25:19, Place overall: 33 | | I was feeling kind of fatigued; I think I needed to drink more and my muscles were sore. However, it's all right for the first race of the season and I hope to improve as we go to more meets. |
| Race: |

We ran it as a speed workout, 1 mile fast and then fartlek until we finished. I was feeling kind of sick today. |
| Race: |
Murray Invitational (3.1 Miles) 00:23:57, Place overall: 168 | | I felt really great about the run; I was able to push the whole race. Afterward we had a BBQ :) |
| |
| | An hour and twenty minutes easy. I went around Sugarhouse Park and I've felt really good all day- no injuries or soreness, etc. |
| |
2 300s in the morning
In the afternoon: mile warm-up, mile speed changes
2000 at 9:06 (improved from last week), 1000 at 4:23
4 400s at 1:30, 1:31, 1:28, 1:26 |
| | My knee was hurting yesterday, I hoped I'd get over it but it was in a lot of pain this morning too. I also almost got hit by a bus. |
| |
10 hills in the morning. We went on Sunnyside below the school- it was hard, but I worked and felt good about it.
2 laps around Sunnyside in the afternoon, then a 300. My knee wasn't hurting at all today- I'm glad it was just a two-day problem. |
| Race: |
Cottonwood Complex Invitational (3.1 Miles) 00:24:34, Place overall: 21
I think I started out too fast, but I was pushing the whole time. It was hot and I did better than last time on this course, but I hope that I can continue to improve.
4 easy miles |
| |
| |
Speed workout. Mile warm-up, mile speed changes
5 1000s, pack running with Kelsey, Natalie, and Alberto. We hit: 4:09, 4:20, 4:17, 4:20, and 4:26. Afterwards I did an 800 and got 3:22 |
| Race: |
Tooele (2.8 Miles) 00:22:16 | | I really loved the course, it probably helped that it was short :) I also really enjoyed running through the stream at the end and the trail in the middle. |
| |
Hills in the morning
In the afternoon we did alternating 200s and 400s, racing a partner. I was with Natalie, we did 5 sets. My 400s were all under 90s, which I'm pleased with, and I passed Natalie on my 3rd and 5th 200. |
| Race: |
Orem-Kiwanis Invitational (3.1 Miles) 00:24:04, Place overall: 22 | | I felt like I had a pretty good race, but I got out too fast and I had a hard time keeping up with the group I started with. Natalie beat me by 9 seconds, I need to push just a little harder! I was 5th from our team, and we got 3rd overall in 4A. |
| |
| | I was struggling a lot mentally throughout the workout. I think everyone was having a hard time today, because it was really hot and we had a hard race on Saturday. |
| |
5 miles in the morning
One 800 in the afternoon, 3:14
My birthday!! |
| | Trimeet at Woods Cross, 2 mile race. It felt really good. |
| |
Wow, what a gorgeous day! |
| Race: |
Cedar City Invitational (2.95 Miles) 00:21:38, Place overall: 57 | | I did about a 1.5 mile warmup and cooldown. I don't know what the exact times and places were, but it's only a few seconds/places off and I'll probabaly find out soon.Â
I PRd!! Of course, it was a short course but it would have been close to my previous PR anyway. The course was really nice with few hills and I was able to stay focused the whole time. It really helped that Kelsey and Natalie and I were together for almost the entire race. |
| |
I ran in St. George with Susannah in the morning. We were surprised to find that we were by Pineview highschool! It brought back good memories of going to Costco after our events during track freshman year :)
We also went around a roundabout a few times and we decided we're going to start calling tracks roundabouts. It was a very enjoyable run. |
| | We ran around the International Peace Gardens. Fun times :) |
| Race: |
Region 6 Region Meet (2.95 Miles) 00:22:18, Place overall: 28
My muscles were pretty sore going up the hills. I felt good about my time, it's 2 seconds off my PR :) but I was struggling the whole race. |
| |
I ran 4 miles in the morning
In the afternoon the team went to Pipeline. It was beautiful, but kind of cold. |
| | We did fartlek without knowing how long each section would be. My quads were sore and I think I'm getting sick, but it felt ok. |
| |
I had a good run in the morning except for a coughing problem. I also swam my 500s and learned that swimming when you're sick really drains you. I'm hoping rest tomorrow will make my cough go away! |
| |
Speed workout. 4 400s at 89, 84, 86, 88
8 200s at between 36 and 40
I felt good about the workout but my cough was getting bad by the end. |
| | Hills at Cottonwood Complex. I felt pretty good until the 2nd hill on the 2nd set of hills- I started getting kind of sick. |
| | Intervals in the morning at Sunnyside. |
| | Felt really good today, it was beautiful! |
| |
mile warmup, 3 laps speed changes. Then we did 3 200s at 40, 38, 37, then a 400 at 76 ( I was quite pleased). Then we did 2 grass laps cooldown. |

| Race: |
Utah State XC Meet 2009 (3.1 Miles) 00:23:52, Place overall: 111
| | I ran to Sugarhouse. I saw Susannah, so I did the last third of her speed workout with her. Then I did another lap. When I was coming home, I saw Abigail so I ran with her for a few minutes. Then I saw Taylor and RJ, so I turned around and ran with them for a few minutes. Then I went home. It was an awesome run :) |
| |
| | I did fartlek in the middle of the run, 6 sets of 2 minutes on, 2 minutes off. |
| Race: |
USATF Utah Association Junior Olympic Champinships (3.1 Miles) 00:25:00, Place overall: 4 | | I didn't see my time, so I guessed. It was a pretty hot day, but it was a fun race. I passed one girl at the very end in a sprint to the finish. |
| | I ran to Highland's track and did a mile speed changes. Then I did a ladder, 200, 400, 800, 600, 400, 200. Times :38, 1:28, 3:21, 2:34, 1:35, :41- I slowed down over the course of the workout, I wasn't feeling great. I think it should help me in a couple weeks, though. Afterward I ran home. |
| |
Mile warmup, mile speedchanges
2 800s, 3:13 and 3:15
4 400s, 1:26, 1:28, 1:27, 1:25 |

we ran around a lot of hotels a lot of times. |
| Race: |
USATF Region X Junior Olympic Championship (3.1 Miles) 00:22:34, Place overall: 8
I felt like I was there mentally, I was pushing the whole time and was about 15 seconds off of my PR (on a road race). I started out with the pack and may have pushed a little too hard initially. I dropped back a little throughout, but overall I feel like I had a good race.
Afterward my team went across the border to Mexico! |
| |
3 sets of half mile on, half mile off at Liberty |
| | 24 hour relay got canceled. dumb. |
| Race: |
Cold Turkey Run (4 Miles) 00:28:54, Place overall: 69, Place in age division: 1 | | They put me in the wrong age group, so I moved myself to my correct age group so that I could be first :) It was a really good race, I felt like I maintained a good pace and was passing people for most of the race. The hardest part was just before the turn around, so I'll remember that next year I can push there because the downhill afterward doesn't take a lot of work. |
| | I had a very nice run, it was a beautiful day |
| | Long run in the morning. I ran from my house up to shoreline, went down shoreline and into the U campus and zigzagged across for a while trying to get out, then I went back home. It started snowing lightly for the last half of my run and it was quite pleasant. |
