| | It was supposed to be 5 miles but I got lost. I learned a valuable lesson today- boys don't know where they're going. | |
| | Well, 8 miles biking but you have to divide that by 4... |
| | I 'm glad I didn't follow Jeremy today- he apparently went around in a lot of circles. I ended up doing one of the hills twice because I turned down instead of up... |
| | I did 4.5 in the morning and 5 in the evening. We did 800s, I only did two because I was sore and got about a 3:20. |
| | I was kind of hurting today but I still stayed ahead of the sophmore boys, which is all that really matters. haha | |
| | I was sore and sick, and since I didn't want to get injured and more sick, I took it easy instead of doing the same workout as my team. | |
| | My quads were sore from a hike on Saturday, so the core work and run hurt. I got sort of lost, but found my way back eventually... | |
| | I did three easy miles in the morning and a speed workout in the evening. One 800 at 3:34 and two 400s at about 1:47. I was pretty sore, so I didn't push too hard, but I felt good about the workout anyway. |
| |
I felt like I had very little energy today, and I am a little sore. I think I will ice and eat more. |
| | We did 4 easy miles and about .5 miles of strides and hills. I was kind of sore but feeling better than last week. |
| | I went on a hike, it was about 8 miles and pretty steep. Since I wasn't running it I halved the distance. It felt really good, one thing I've noticed about hiking is that you use a lot of muscles in your quads, especially on steep downhills so you can balance. |
| | 4.25 miles of running at a fairly high altitude and 4 miles of hiking. I didn't get to run too much at camp, but I at least got some in. | |
| |
I ran from my house to the cemetery and back, and I didn't get lost! It was pretty good, I did about 10 minute miles but slowed down on the last mile. I saw Tolbert while I was out running, and that was kind of weird. That was 6.5 miles.
I ran in the evening with USATF but didn't do a lot because I wasn't feeling very good. Anyone have hints on preventing sideaches? I don't get them a lot, but today was bad. |
| | It was a nice easy workot today. I taught the freshmen how to do firemen, it was really fun. I love freshmen! |
| |
I felt really good today. We did 2 miles of speed changes, I actually beat Susannah and Bre (yeah, for once in my life, I know, but it still made me happy).
2 easy miles in the evening. |
| | I actually swam 1000 meters, but I don't know how much to count it as! |
| | Hiking 9 miles. I can tell you, my shoulders were not ready for that 25 pound pack. |
| | Hiked to the top of Kings and back to camp, about 14 miles. I came down the scree pile, for anyone doing Kings that is NOT the way to go. Just for a heads up. |
| |
I hiked back out and came home. It was really nice, but that pack didn't feel too much lighter than it did going in. |
| |
It was really nice and slow- I ran with my 14 year old dog.
| | We ran on the Dry Creek trail. It's an easier run than bike, and really beautiful. |
| | We did some hills today. I was sore but felt o.k. about the workout. |
| | We ran on the Jordan River Trail. It was a beautiful run, but my quads were pretty sore. |
| |
It was really fun- my favorite part was definately the dutch oven breakfast afterward.
| Race: |
Minuteman 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:24:30, Place overall: 89 | | I did a 2 mile warm-up and the same cool down. I felt good about the race, it's my first for this season and I think it's a good base (better than last year anyway). I slowed down a little with each mile. I'm looking forward to improving this season!
| |
I took it easy but I was still pretty sore from the race yesterday! |
| |
We did the cemetery loop and circuit. I felt pretty sore, my calves were really tight.
I did 3 easy miles in the evening. |
| |
4 easy miles in the morning.
In the evening, I did a speed workout. 3 800s at about 3:40 and one 400 at 2:00 (yah, wasn't feeling so great on that one). Afterward we got frozen custard! |
| | We did hills. I was tired. | |
| |
I went the wrong way for a little bit near the end, but I backtracked and found the trail! I didn't do the two miles at the end because I pretty much have all my miles for the week.
In the evening we had the xc barbeque- we did a 2.5 mile race and with warm up and cool down, 4.5 miles in the evening.
I have all my miles for the week, yay! |
| | I did a short hike up Multnomah Falls with the fam after a long car trip up to Oregon! |
| | I ran through residential Portland, it was really nice and cool. | |
| |
I ran 5 miles along the Oregon coastline. It was really cool, but also really humid. The view was gorgeous!
In the afternoon I did a 2 mile hike with my family to Drift Creek Falls.
| | I ran along the beach again, but it was hot and I wasn't feeling very good so I just did 4 miles. | |
| | This is the last day I will get to run along the beach ): It was really beautiful though, the hard sand reminds me of a track but the view is infinitely better. |
| | We're in Eugene today! I ran along a trail on the Wilamette River, it was really pretty! |
| |
I wasn't feeling great today. I think it's the elevation, so hopefully I'll feel better in a few days. We did a 2 mile warmup, a circuit, and then 1000s. My splits were: 5:00, 4:57, 5:00, and 5:18. For the last one I went hard for 400, relaxed, and then went hard for the last 100. 2 mile cooldown. |
| |
We ran 6 miles on the Shoreline trail in the morning. I took it easy and felt pretty good. Afterward we did some ab work.
At nightwe did a 2 mile warm up and one mile of speed changes. Then we did a mile, 7:18, and then another mile of speed changes. |
| | I ran with some old neighbors up Emigration Canyon. I hadn't seen them for a while so it was fun to hear how they're doing! |
| | We were at Liberty today. I did a short warm-up because I was late. We did firemen, our first lap was 13:12 and the second was 12:43. Then we did a cool down lap. |
| | I ran to Wasatch Lawn and back. I had planned to do 6 miles but spaced and missed a few streets, so it ended up being about 6.5. |
| | I went on a 6 mile mountain bike ride with my family. It was really beautiful, we did a loop in Park City and saw some marathoners! |
| | We did 2 miles warm-up. Then we did a mile, 7:23, and two 800s, 3:28 and 3:48- I didn't push quite as hard on the second one. Then we did the VA loop for cooldown. |
| | We did Shriners- I wasn't feeling very good, and no wonder. I am eating and drinking a lot tonight and tomorrow so I'll have energy for the race. |
| Race: |
Wheeler Farm xc (2.93 Miles) 00:23:26, Place overall: 6
We did a couple miles of warm-up and cooldown. After the race we did 10 hills, but they weren't very big.
I felt really good about my race. I did about a 7:58 mile, and was 5th for the team. If I had passed one girl a little more efficiently, we would have gotten a perfect score. Next time I need to gain a little more distance over people when I pass them, but overall it was a great race. |
| |
I did 6 miles in the morning, the first three at 8:30 and the last three at 9:30. Then we did five strides.
In the afternoon we were at Sunnyside Park. We did a warm up and then a tempo run, I was supposed to hit around 8:40 I believe but it was a little under 9. Then we did two circuits. I was feeling tired so I only did a mile and a half cooldown. |
| | This was the longest and possibly the hottest run I've ever done all at once. We did a 2.75 mile warmup and a mile of speed changes. Then we did one 800 and 8 400s. My 800 was a 3:24 and my 400s were between 1:40 and 1:45, with the fastest at 1:38. We did a lap of recovery after each. Then I did a 5 lap cooldown. It was really hard, but I'm glad I did it. I came home and I think I've drank (drunk? dranken? drunken?) about a half gallon of water. |
| | It was a nice, cool run and I took it easy. I was a little sore from yesterday, and my ankle hurts. It has a small knot or some other kind of bump on it that I'm a little concerned about. |
| | I got new shoes yesterday and this is my first time running in them. They felt pretty good, I thought they were a little heavy but it must have just been my legs because they are lighter than my old ones. I ran down 15th, around Sugarhouse, and back. |
| |
I went in the middle of the day and it was nice and cool. My dad and I went 4 miles, then I was feeling great so I went another 2. The new shoes are working out really well. |
| |
In the morning we went to Liberty and did fartlek. It felt pretty good.
We went to Shriners in the afternoon, I did about 8:20 miles, which is a big improvement for me for a more relaxed run. I'm getting a blister from my new shoes. |
| Race: |
Cottonwood Complex XC meet (3.1 Miles) 00:25:56, Place in age division: 6
I am not sure exactly what my time was because I didn't look at my watch until a few seconds after I finished, but that is a pretty good guestimation. Before the race we did a 2 mile warmup. For the race I stayed with the girls for the first 2K at a 4:40/K pace, then I slowed down a little bit. It was kind of hot and I was tired, but overall it was a pretty good race.
After the workout we did 3 hills, 400M with 400M recovery in between. |
| |
In the morning I did 4.5 miles. In the afternoon I did 4, 2 miles of speed changes. |
| Race: |
BYU Invitational (3.1 Miles) 00:25:13, Place overall: 125, Place in age division: 4 | | Like Susannah, I just put the division place as the place I scored for East in. We did a 2 mile warm up and some strides at the start line. At the beginning of the race I started out a little too slow and got boxed in, which was frustrating because I felt like I could go faster. When things spread out a little more I got ahead and passed some people. The course was slow, so the race may have been a little longer than a 5K, but I'm not sure. |
| |
In the morning we ran to Sugarhouse Park and back and did about 5 hills.
In the afternoon we did a 1 mile warm-up, 1 mile speed changes. Then we did ladders, 200-1000. My splits were: 200-45(?), 400-1:37, 600- ?, 800- 3:56, 1000- 5:13, 800- 4:07, I skipped the 600 for a little better recovery, 400- 1:40, 200- 39. Those are about right. Then 1 mile cooldown. It was really hot. |
| |
Morning about a 5 mile run, around the VA loop, back to do some hills, and then a five lap cooldown on the track.
In the afternoon we ran around Sugarhouse. My ankle was hurting, and we have a race tomorrow, so I took it pretty easy.
|
| Race: |
Murray XC 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:24:21, Place overall: 10
We did a warm-up and cooldown, and I didn't bring my watch but I figured it was about 3 miles altogether. I'm really glad we didn't do a workout after because my ankle was sore.
We wore flats on the course. I was passing people throughout the race. I passed one on the killer hill, and one about 150 meters before the finish. Last time I didn't give myself enough space when I passed, but this time I did and I finished ahead of her. |
| |
A couple of easy laps around Sunnyside Park. I'm excited for the race tomorrow!
In the afternoon I did my lifeguard 500s with my friend Casey, who is a fabulous swimmer. I learned how to flipturn but I still need to perfect that art. I also learned that when I kick I'm not getting any momentum, because using a kick board I didn't really go anywhere, so I need to learn to do that better. Sometime I want to do a triathlon, so I better learn how to swim efficiently. |
| Race: |
Murray xc 5K (3.1 Miles) 00:25:27, Place overall: 196 | | I did about a two mile warm-up. My foot was really hurting and it didn't warm up.
The entire race was brutal. My foot hurt so bad with every step, and even though I was pushing hard my time was a minute slower than Wednesday. I'm staying off of it this weekend, but I'm worried it's bad. I looked up the symptoms and I think it's metatarsalgia. |
| |
On Monday I went to the doctor and got my foot x-rayed. It was a complete fracture and I will be in the boot, and not running, for 6 to 8 weeks. It is pretty much a really, really big bummer.
Today I rode the stationary bike for 30 minutes, Emily says an hour of cross training equals about 5 miles running so I am counting it as two and a half miles. |
| | Today I rode for 30 minutes again. I did a 5 minute warm-up and cooldown and in between I did "bike fartlek", one minute on and one minute off 10 times. |
| |
I went to Steiner with Susannah. We pool ran for half a mile, it was way fun and I really loved it. Then we swam, I did 1/3 miles. |
| | 40 miles of pool running with Susannah. very fun. |
| |
30 minutes on the bike. I studied for my biology test tomorrow because I forgot my ipod and it was bor-ing. so much that studying biology vocab is more interesting :) |
| | Susannah and I went pool running for about an hour. It was really good, I felt like I was able to mostly keep my heart rate up this time. |
| |
50 minutes on the stationary bike. :P That is a LONG time on a bike. |
| | 30 minutes of water jogging, I did 1/4 mile and then 2 laps of swimming. |
| | 36 minutes on the bike. I got to see the start of the football game, so it wasn't too boring. |
| | 12 minutes of ab work in the evening |
| |
48 minutes on the bike. I did intervals- 1 minute on, 1 minute off, 2 minutes on, two minutes off, etc. up to 4 and back down to 1. I did an 8 minute warm up and cool down.
The more I bike, the more I love to run. |
| | Again, 30 minutes on the bike. |
| |
30 minutes in the morning, 30 minutes in the evening. |
| |
I went bike riding with my sister- it wasn't stationary and I had someone to talk to, so it was actually pretty fun. |
| | 36 minutes on an eliptical, and 6 minutes of arms alternating one minute with weights, one minute without. |
| |
These are actually running miles today! I talked to my doctor in the morning and he said I could run state, so I ran to get my muscles used to it. I walked 2 laps and then ran a lap. One of my hips hurt, so I tried in the other direction 1 lap and it felt pretty good.
Then I did some lunges and another lap, and then 2 laps consecutively. My arch is a little sore because this is the first time in over 5 weeks that I've run or had arch support in a shoe. I feel like I've lost some cardio but I'm hoping it will be fine.
Tonight I did 1/4 mile with my sister. I'm still not used to running, and I feel like I run differently but my sister says I'm faster (but we only did a 1/4 mile, after all) and I hope that I'll find a comfortable place soon.
I'm so glad to say good riddance to the boot and start running again! |
| |
I did 1 mile warmup and then 2 laps of speed changes. My cardio doesn't feel as good as it used to, but I know it'll get better with time.
I'm excited for state tomorrow! |
| Race: |
State XC, Utah (3.1 Miles) 00:26:12, Place overall: 118
We did a 1-mile warm up, which felt pretty good.
I wasn't sure how I was going to do after almost 6 weeks without running, so it was an interesting race. My time wasn't as good as I'd hoped but I was just glad to be running and I realize that I haven't for a long time. After the race I noticed a little bit of pain in my foot, I reeeeally hope it hasn't rebroken. For the first part of the race I stayed with Tess, then at about mile 1 my breathing started feeling bad. My legs weren't sore this race, but I need to build my cardio back up.
Overall I am really happy I was able to run!
| |
I did the Shoreline Trail on my bike. It felt a little harder than it used to...
But it was still great to be back on my mountain bike. |
| |
I did 1 and 1/4 miles of swimming, and it was pretty hard.
First I did a 475 meter swim, then my goggles came off so I readjusted them before doing 525 meters. Then I took a break and did another 500, then another break and another 500. I'm definately still a runner but I'm glad I got a workout in and got my swimming done for this month and last month for lifeguarding. It took me a total of about 50 minutes, including breaks. |
| | Easy 2, first run since state so I didn't push it! |
| | Started to feel my time off around the end of the run- that's probably where I'll need to build back up from. No ill effects, however, my foot and my muscles feel fine! |
| | On a treadmill- ugh! It was a little under a 10 minute pace, but I still got winded. My hips have been a little sore since, but we'll see how it works out. |
| |
This is just a guess- I worked out for about and hour and 15 minutes but about 45 of them were core.
I went back to my doctor this week. He said 3 miles every other day was as much as I should be doing for 2 weeks, but I think the second week I'll do 4 miles every other day.
My plan for the next few weeks:
1. 3 miles every other
2. 4 miles every other
3. 3 miles every day
4. 4 miles every day
5. 3-4-5, 3-4-5
We'll see where it goes from there. |
| | I went from my house to Sugarhouse, did a lap around the inner loop and took a little longer route back to get 3 miles. It felt pretty good but I had a... "stomach ache" is the best way to put it because it wasn't a side ache but it still hurt- maybe it was from ab workout yesterday but I think I might be sick because it's hurt after I eat for about a week and after lunch today it hurt a lot. |
| | I warmed up with my sister for about the first half mile, then I kept going by myself. It was relatively flat but I felt like I was pushing most of the time. |
| | I took it easy and it felt really good. It was a beautiful day for running! | |
| |
24 hour relay again, I didn't come until about 12:15 because I had to work. There were 5 people on my team this time so that was very nice. We did 26 miles all together that shift, so we nearly ran a marathon! All together we did 186 miles. |
| | I went in the morning around the neighborhood. I still haven't gotten a watch, but it was about ten minute miles and felt ok- my legs are great, but my cardio still needs work. | |
| | I ran with my dad and my neighbor, we did about 9 minute miles and it felt pretty good. |
| | 24 hour relay, I had the 11 to 2 shift but since it was basically all one run, I'm just putting it on the same day. Only 3 of us from our team showed up, so it was pretty tiring. |
| | 3 easy miles in the morning- this week I'm planning on getting in about 3 miles a day but I might do six on Thanksgiving and then rest the next day... |
| |
I ran with my dog again- I forgot that she doesn't do well on a lot of hills or running two days in a row, so it was pretty slow... |
| Race: |
Cold Turkey run (3.75 Miles) 00:34:00, Place in age division: 6
I did a small warm up before the race, and I started really far back. The first mile was really slow because I was in the mass and trying to get around people. About halfway through I was able to run pretty freely. I didn't race this one- I would have started up farther if I had- so it felt pretty good. I don't want to race until track season, I need the recovery time.
I checked the miles on my shoes today, I've done 134.25
| | I had a good run, but about a mile away from my house this random dog started following me and it stayed with me until I got home- it was quite nice companionship actually. |
| |
I ran with my dog, it was pretty good and easy. My foot was hurting a little where I broke it, so I'm a bit concerned. |
| | Pretty good, I was a little worried yesterday because my hip and one of my quads was sore, but no problem today. |
| | It was pretty easy, not sore or anything. |
| |
I got them done in the morning- had to get up prettttty darn early though. |
| | I went skiing and my foot really bothered me, not the one I broke but the other foot, in the same place- I didn't run today, if it feels ok Monday I'll run on it. |
| | My foot was sore again. I think I should get it looked at. |
| | I was going to go 4 but my foot was hurting so I turned around afer one. I think I'll run every other day and see how i do. |
| | 30 minutes on the bike. My left foot (the other one) has a stress fracture, which is very upsetting and I won't be able to run for another several weeks. | |
