Hang onto your seats because I'm feeling chatty.

Weights chest at the gym, then 21 minutes on the elliptical with hard effort.

Then I went home and got my cold running gear on. I was out the door by 6:07 and ran 6.60. It's a bit frustrating knowing in a week from now the time will flip forward. I'll be back in the pitch black dark for a month or so. I forgot my pepper spray and so I felt slightly uneasy during the run. It's not people I am worried about, it's dogs. Barn dogs. The further west you go from our neighborhood the more barn dogs there are. And they are scary. So I ran for a bit with a good size rock in my right hand. I was happy as a clam running with my tunes. I was doubled gloved. I wasn't cold at all. I wore Saucony stability trainers and they are so heavy to run in. I don't know how anyone could race in stability shoes? I felt like I was slow and picking up bricks with each stride. I am switching back and forth between my performance neutrals and stability shoes right now so my feet get some cushioning off and on. Maybe that isn't a good idea? I don't know... thoughts anyone?

What a good morning. The past 3 days of outside only running is rejuvenating my drive. While it's a bit of a slap in the face realizing that my outside fitness is not that awesome. I know with steady consistent training outside it will all come back + some in a short time. It does every year yeeeehooo!

When we lived in NY, we were on the edge of the "country" and both of my parents used to run w/ pepper spray for that exact reason - DOGS!

I read once that Bill Rodgers used to carry some dog treats w/ him to distract any canines that came at him - not sure if that is true or not.

Switching up shoes is a good idea. What stability trainers do you have? Some of Saucony's newer stability models aren't as "clunky" - like the new Guide, for instance... they chopped like 2 ounces off it, which is significant.

I agree with Jake, switching shoes can be really good for your feet.

I have the same problems with dogs down in Payson. Biggest pet peeve ever!!! Especially when I am running with my little dog (leased of course) and great big farm dogs come darting at us. ugh!

About the shoes...I rotate from Stability to neutral and it has worked well for me. Try the Saucany Mirage. They are a lighter weight stability shoe and I really like them. I just bought a pair at runningwarehouse for $40.00.

The Mirage is really my favorite shoe now. I like them more than the Kinvara. Still really light, but just a little extra support, which I think really helps me out a lot (even though I'm very much a neutral runner)

I have the Saucony progrid Omni 9. Its pretty damn clunky. Thanks for your advice jake, jun and Rachelle. Maybe I'll have to get the Mirage. My feet hurt a little off and on and so that's why I'm doing the switchy.

Yeah that is a clunky model. When Andrea refers to her "clunkers" those are they ones she is talking about. I don't really love them. The newer version are a lot more streamlined.

I hate daylight saving time. Just when you're getting some light they take it away. And in the summer I would enjoy some darkness after 9:30. You can't enjoy a good Blu Ray movie with light glaring off the screen. Daylight savings time is the worst idea ever.

I think switching shoes is good too but can't ever wear stability shoes--they make my ankles hurt--I'm already more of a supinator.
