It was a bummer,for sure. But, it looks like you are used to dealing with snowstorms, cold weather, etc.! The roads were simply too dangerous to run on, and our Rec. Center was closed, so the treadmill was out. So...round and round I went.

I qualified for Boston, but did not get in. I went to register on day #2, and was certainly surprised/disappointed.

Congratulations to you!! That is awesome and should be a great experience!

I am questioning whether I should have run.  Have a chest cold...don't feel very well.  Probably not a good idea; but simply want to get back to a regular routine.  It's been about two weeks since I started not feeling well.  First, it was stomach flu symptoms, and now it's a bad cold/chest cold....Aaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

That sounds pretty rough. That's a lot of tedious laps around the track. Did you change directions in the middle?

It was tough and tedious. My wife and two daughters had been out of town, so wanted to run with my dogs and get them some good exercise. It was so windy, that it really sucked. The wind was blowing west to east across a north/south track. So had to deal with it most of the time (cross wind or head wind). The only time it was decent was a tail wind for about 220!

Kam - Thanks for the note. In looking at your info., I should be asking you questions! I am a complete novice compared to most people on here.

This has been about a 3 year journey for me. Two years ago, I got hurt before my marathon; last year I was injured before, but was able to running it healthy (I recovered, but lost some training time). This year, with the exception of being sick, I was able to stay healthy -- that is huge.

Every year, I tried to average about 200 miles per month (a little more if I could swing it). I work from home and have a flexible work schedule, so it's easier for me than some folks. I don't have a commute, so can use that time to get in some runs.

I also use the Advanced Marathoning book as a guide (second edition). I try to follow the training as closely as possible. Because I was healthy this year, and not sick (with the exception of Jan/Feb issue) or injured, I was able to follow it almost perfectly. I ran 6 days a week.

Based on my training times (and the feel of my runs), I had an idea I could do better than last year. I set three goals - 3:10 (great); 3:20 (I'm happy); or 3:30 (not what I want, but could happen).

I knew the course and feel there was some luck involved.

However, you are at 3:14 man and have 6 kids? That's crazy good.

I'm on a mission now: Boston 3.0 (it's a dream), but run Boston in three hours. You up for it?? lol...take care!

It was nice to run without a watch. I should do that more often. No Crocs yet; however, through another person, I know the previous legal council for Crocs. Their HQ's are about 15 minutes from my house. I asked him why they never made any running shoes...I'll let you know if I hear anything back from him.

Hey Dave - I'd be interested to hear/learn more about Boston. It's about 19 weeks out and I'm getting ready to start a training program.

I have one dog that is a wirehair german pointer. She's about nine years old and has spent alot of her time hanging out in the house, on the bed, etc. She's done well despite my attempts to train her. I like to take her as she does gets some points, but certainly gets very birdy when there are birds in the area. She doesn't have alot of experience and I lost a few birds last time I went. I've got a pure bread German Shorthair and another that's mother was a Shorthair and father was dog I had that was 1/2 Plothound and 1/2 Vizsla. He was an excellent bird dog and coon and lion dog. She's built like a shorthair but is completely black. They're both very good on pheasants. My dogs get a little spoiled too but they do get quite a bit of experience hunting.

Hey - Congrats on your race! Just got caught up on some reading. Hope your leg is ok.

I didn't make it out pheasant hunting last week. I was set, and excited, to go but had a few things come up. I recently sold my business and, therefore, am unemployed. I thought it best, with the holidays coming up, to spend those extra couple of days making contacts, looking at opportunities, etc. I plan to go next week as I think alot of people will be out of the office anyhow. Plus, my kids had a couple of things going on, so it made it nice that I was around.

Are you planning on doing anymore hunting (i.e. duck/goose/etc.)?

Unfortunately our pheasant hunt just ended. My son and I usually get out hunting ducks and geese several times but haven't been since the opener. They seem to be a little late moving into our area. I haven't been seeing as many as normal yet.

I'm heading down to Arizona to bowhunt for Coues deer in just over 3 weeks. Getting excited for that.
