Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

AM-6.3 miles.

PM-5xmile at Kiwanis Park(slightly uphill from start to finish).  It seemed a bit longer than it was last year, but it would only be a few seconds.  First one I felt pretty stiff, but ran 4:42.  Next one I started with the pack, but people weren't wanting to run faster, so I sped up a bit.  4:43 for number 2.  3 was tough, but I ran 4:40.  4 started pretty slow, but then our last 400m was pretty quick and it was another 4:40.  Last one I had Kramer and Brayden from 400m to 800m, Jake from 800m to 1400m, and Zac from 1200m to the end.  Ran 4:35.  Cool down after.

AM-5.2 miles on my own. Slept in a bit, so I missed running with the group.

PM-8 mile power run at Deer Creek.  1 mile warm up, then we started.  Due to the quick elevation changes, tight turns, and wind, it was tough and hard to gauge effort on splits.  Splits: 5:37, 5:17, 5:23, 5:29, 5:07, 5:19, 5:31, 5:09.  Kramer and Jake held on pretty long to Jared and I.  It was also beautiful up there with the leaves changing colors across the resevoir.  Overall Ascent for the 8 miles was about 790 feet, and about the same in descent.

Hope to Hobbel long run. Beautiful. Due to conference, we had to start early. It was dark, but the stars were pretty, and as the light came, we could see the many different colors of leaves.

AM-5 miles with Michael, Talem, and even Danny Carney joined us today.

PM-10x1000m at tempo pace. Due to some slight soreness, I took the workout a bit easier initially.  Started around 3:01, and was around 3:00-02 for the first few.  Ran the last four around 2:52-58.  Didn't feel terrible, didn't feel great, just kinda sore.  It was surprisingly hot, and I drank water after every other.  The team looked great, the pack was a few seconds ahead of where we were 4 weeks ago.

AM-10.2 with Talem, Michael, and Jake.  Well, the last 5 were with just Talem.

PM-6 on the Alter-G.  Felt a little more tired from the past week, so I'll take it a bit easier to rest.

AM-4.5 miles with Michael and Jake. I would've gone farther, but just trying to ease back a bit. Mostly grass loops.

PM-2x(mile, 1200m, 800m).  We ran it all on the grass by the track.  Wardy was coming off an insane workout, and Milly and Clayton were coming off their races, so they were taking the workout easier. The first one was a bit slow (4:44), but then the 1200 went pretty quick (3:20), and the first 800m was probably a bit too fast (2:10).  On the second set we went 4:35, 3:19, 2:11.  Clayton said his GPS watch had us about 7 seconds faster than our estimated course(Coach had wheeled this before, but without cones or anything to make sure we were running the same course, we just estimated where we thought we would end). I felt pretty good at the end, and probably could have done another set and still felt fine, but it was good to have it end there.

AM-6.5 easy miles, mostly with Talem, Michael, and Jake.
PM-2 mile, 1.5 mile. 1 mile at Intramural field. For some reason, intramural field is always "longer" according to people's gps watches, but it is flatter, so I'm never too sure what to think of times. Anyway, 9:25, 7:04, 4:35 for the splits. Felt good. Last year I was 15 seconds slower on the 2 mile, 1 second slower on the 1.5, and 1 second faster on the mile. Last year I didn't run this workout alone.

PM-12 miles with some strides on the indoor track.  The group thinned out when we did a loop near the airport and back on the old highway, and later university.  It was perfect weather.

AM-2x800 on grass with fast starts, tempo mile on grass, 800 on track at same effort as grass, but no fast start.  Felt warmed up a lot more on the second 800, plus Zac was right on my heels. 2:14, 2:12, 4:53, 2:04

PM-6.1 miles.

AM-May have miscalculated the distance. Race went well, lots of wind, fast moves, and good competition. I was very fortunate to come away with the win today. I'll write more later

Warmed up 2.5 miles with the team. I didn't get a bad start, but it wasn't the best.  The plan was to run with the pack, unless the Campbell athletes took it our really hard. Well, the Campbell athletes took it out hard, and Danny made room for me to sprint and catch up.  I was with them at about 600m, and it felt fast.  I knew that I just should run behind these athletes, but it felt quicker than I thought it should.  I caught up with them, and we went through 1000m at 2:38.  I knew this was downhill, but it still felt really quick.  We slowed pretty quickly, and the rest of the group caught up.  We went through the mile at 4:24, and then the pace kept slowing to about 4:40 pace, and eventually, 4:50ish pace.  Our 1000m splits started getting over 3 minutes, and suddenly there was a large pack together.  The wind wasn't too bad, so I led a bit, but didn't really push the pace.  With a mile to go, Isai Rodriguez started pushing the pace, and the Amon went with him, and later pushed the pace. I caught up, just being ready for any move.  After a bit, I looked back and realized the pack was just us 3, and I felt like we were slowing down, so I put in a surge, but Amon quickly passed me.  With 400m to go, we could see the finish and I knew it was going to be a long kick, so I waited before really picking the pace up.  I had taken the lead here, and with about 100m to go they were still with me, but then I had another gear, and was fortunate enough to get the win.  After, I turned around and saw Jake take 4th, which was huge, and then the rest of the guys in our top 5 raced great.  Sadly, Kramer and Jacklin both got hurt in the race and faded really hard. Fortunately, Michael, who was having an off day, passed enough people in the final straight that we barely beat Colorado.  Great run for the team, but we are going to have to race better if we are going to have a shot at beating NAU.

PM-4 miles in Chicago. Pretty tired from the meet and long bus ride.

AM-6.2 miles with Michael, Talem, and Jake.

PM-6x800m, first and fourth on the track, all the others were on the grass.  Goal was 2:10 effort on all of them, but it's been a while since I ran on the track.  Times: 2:07, 2:12, 2:11, 2:05, 2:08, 2:07.  It wasn't too tough, but it was a good workout.  Clayton ran with us, and it was his first workout with us in a few weeks.

PM-Michigan. 4:23, 4:49, 3:15, 4:49, 2:07, 4:45, 60, 4:39. Great run, especially without Milly, Jared, or Clayton there. Rory was there cheering us on, which was sweet. Also, a lot of guys stepped it up and ran the tempos with me.

AM-6 miles with Michael, Talem, Josh, and Jake.  It was great having Josh with us again, ever since he moved we don't run with him much.

PM-Cold workout.  We did mile, 1200m, 800m, 2x400m at 4:41, 3:25, 2:12, 60, 59.  It was really windy, and we were out at Intramurla field.  During the mile, I'd run the 400s with the wind in 67, and the ones against the wind in 73.  Felt warmed up by the 800m, but didn't feel the spring in my legs as much as usual.
