Running Accomplishments:

Pre-high school: I ran a lot of local 5ks and a few half marathons.  I didn't do a ton of training, but I just had fun, and I got more serious about it as high school got closer.

High school: I enjoyed running a lot, especially cross country.  I originally did track to keep my in shape for cross country.  I ran at Footlocker Nationals, the Adidas Dream mile, Brooks PR Invitational, world xc junior championships, and a few local 5ks.

PRs: 800: 1:56.80-State Track 2014

NCAA finishes:

Cross Country: 10th(2018);

Outdoor: 10k-22nd(2018), 4th(2019), 5k-7th(2019)

Long-Term Running Goals:

Make sure I have fun, not get burned out, and get faster.

School records in the 5km and 10km.

Personal:

Served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints from July 2015-July 2017.  I gained 30 lbs. during the service and came back out of shape; however I knew that if the Lord wanted me to once again run competitively, he would bless me to return to fitness.

I graduated from Sky View High School in Smithfield, Utah. I currently run for Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

PM-2x2 loop, 1x1 loop at tempo effort at K park. It was HOT, so coach had us run this instead of a straight tempo on lake loop. Paces we’re about 4:58 for the 1.9 milers, and 4:37 for the last one. Weights after.

Long run.  20 miles at Murdock, ran the majority of the run with Weaver and Milly, due to having to run farther.  Milly was going 25 and had a pickup to run, but he ran with whole 20 with me before continuing on his own.  At 20 miles, I'm pretty beat, I don't know if I could run the next 5 with a tempo at the end.

AM-10k

PM-12x1000m at tempo effort with 60 sec rest. Started around 3:01, then Coach had me slow it down to 3:06 for a few. Last four were 3:01, 3:01, 2:53, 2:54. Felt good. Lots to work on for this season personally though.

AM-not 100% sure on this mileage, but it will be fine. 2x(mile, 1200, 800) with 400-600m jog recovery between.  Mile and 1200 were on the wet grass, 800s were on the track to check the relative effort.  Ran 4:46, 3:32, 2:10, 4:44, 3:29, 2:08.  Matt and Talem were there too, we all seem to have classes during practice on Wednesdays.

PM-6.2 miles on my own. Felt tired.

AM-race:  2.5 mile warm up, then some strides.  Warmed up a bit earlier than my liking, but it was alright.  I felt better than yesterday; however, still a bit stiff.  I got a great start, for me atleast, and didn't worry about any trouble.  The pace felt really quick after 200m, and it didn't really slow until about 600m.  I slowed down a bit, and just let the front guys go, before slowly catching up.  I took the lead with JQ at the start of the first 2km loop.  The course had a 1km loop, then 3x2k loops.  The guys behind me said that they heard they were sub-4:40 at the mile mark, and so JQ and myself were likely around 4:35.  After a bit, JQ fell off, then Jacklin ran by me for the next loop plus a little more.  On the 2nd 2k loop, Garrett Marsin got a bit ahead of me, and shared some of the work.  He was going pretty quick, but then he asked me if that was our last loop, and I told him we had one more.  He wasn't with us to run the course yesterday, so he wasn't sure about the course.  At the end of that loop, he was slowing.  I decided to speed up here and see what I could run the last 2k in.  I wasn't all out, but I did speed it up.  4 mile cool down after.  This meet was fun because there were a lot of friends and family that came to support too.  I'm not sure how long the course actually was, as I've heard both 7km and 7.5 km.

PM-6 miles around k park.

PM-hobble creek. Progressive run up a canyon that’s around 8.3 miles. Kramer and I ran it in 44:51, which is quite a bit quicker than I’ve ever run, so it was a great workout.

PM-8 miles with strides. Felt pretty good for the first 7, then some pain from a blister/callus. It’s all good though.

AM-5.2 miles with Jake, Talem, and Michael.

PM-Michigan today. It was hot and windy, but I think Coach gave us more rest than usual, so it wasn’t terrible. Went 4:28(track), 4:50(grass), 3:19(t), 4:48(g), 2:11(t), 4:46(g), 60(t), 4:42(g). I felt pretty good after the first grass mile. Lots of switching of who was leading between Jared, Milly, and Clayton. All of them were coming off hard Tuesday workouts and/or races from the weekend, so I led a bit more than usual. Jared always seemed to be holding back, but I guess that’s what you can do when you were 6th in the last Olympic Games.

AM-7 with Talem, Michael, and Jake.

PM-3x2 mile/4laps at Intramural field. Ran 9:55, 9:45, 9:36. Michael’s watch had it about 20 seconds off each time, but GPS watches aren’t always so accurate. Good workout, first one Zac and Michael ran with me for most of the way, second way Zac was with me for a lap or two, last one was on my own. Weights after. 3.5 up, 2.9 down, about .6 total between sets.

AM-2x(mile, 1200, 800) with less rest than the last time.  miles were 4:42 and 4:40, 1200s were 3:26, 3:27, and 800s(track instead of grass) were 2:10.9, 2:11.9.  First mile I went out way too quick.  It was wet and early, but I still should have paced it better (roughly 2:17 at the 800m).  1200s were both good.  Talem ran with first 800m with me. We went out a bit slow(68), and it hurt to get moving after that.  Last set was all on my own. Went out a bit more conservative on the mile, running 2:21 at the 800m.  Felt better, but still felt like I was digging.  Next 1200m was relatively well paced.  Last 800m I wanted to run 2:08, but for some reason, I couldn't get my legs moving any quicker 66 pace for the first lap, and couldn't quite seem to finish well either.  With the little rest and running the majority of the workout on my own, I'll count it as a good workout, but it wasn't great.  I haven't been sleeping too well this last week, so I'll have to work on that.

PM-Just over 6 miles, mostly with Talem.

AM-race. Wasn’t the best for our team, but a good experience. About 3 miles of warm up, 5 mile race, 5.4 cool down. I got out well enough that I was able to get to the lead just after the mile. I stayed around top 10 for the rest of the race, touching the lead every once in a while. I felt sick with a stuffy nose and sore throat for the past few days, so I ran a little more conservative than usual. Robert Brandt started a push around 3 miles. After that Cooper fell off and for a little bit it was just Jake, Brandt, and I. Eventually, Jake fell off, and Brandt and I went back and forth. I tried to pass him a few times in the last 1000m, but it wasn’t until the last 100m or so I was able to pass him.

PM-6 miles with some of the team at a rainy pre’s trail.
