Wow. Let's see- Race started and I went out pretty hard but not all out. A couple SUU runners and Holt were out in the lead. I rolled through the first mile and a half then started to really feel cramped (all over the legs) then around mile 2 Steve Olsen comes knocking at my door and we run together for about a half and he starts to go, and my brain says we can go with- but the body can't do it. Just couldn't get out of the hole today. Run the next 2 or so really cramped and then after mile 4 or so I finally start to feel better but by then the damage is already done. Everyone is long gone. 35:31 4th overall. Pretty sad that earlier this year I held 5:30 pace for a half marathon and today I struggle to hit a 5:40 pace in a 10k. I guess I'm just not ready to be racing fast yet. After todays race I felt like my body and mind need a rest from the race prep/ training. So I'm not going to run the Valley of Fire Marathon in November. I'd like to enjoy the wrestling season this year. It's my 5th year as the assistant wrestling coach at Dixie High. This year we've got some good kids that we've been working with for the last few and I expect good things. So I will aim my attention that direction through the winter and try and improve my core fitness while trying to keep my weight down. Did a mile warm up and a few at the hotel in Phoenix. Any who- the race was just o.k. I wasn't pumped by any means, but wasn't really bumbed out. Holt ran a good race. He transformed into a retro 80's guy with his new business in the front, party in the back hair cut and classic old nike flats- And a head band. It was pretty funny. We had to bail pretty quick after the race to catch a flight to Phoenix. Had the honor of enjoying an In-and-Out burger in Vegas before we went to the airport. It hit the spot. |
