Ran the Hurricane half marathon. I only did about .4 warm up. It was a good race. Dustin and I ran together most of the race. We didn't push it as hard as some at first, so we had to run them down. After the first two miles we were in 9th and 10th place but ended up moving into 5th and 6th overall finishes. I passed a the 4th place guy inside 150 yards then he surged with 85 yards left and passed my back. My card said my time was 1:20.14. Which I was really plessed with if its for real. I had gone into the race only wanting to best 1:25 so I beat my goal by around almost 5 min. I felt like I ran a good race, no major issues. I did do have 2 blisters one on each foot that messed with my stride a little but nothing too much.

At mile 7 I felt like I was starting to cramp up, but just then we crested the hill and started to bail off down the other side at what felt like a sprint. Then after that I started forgeting about the pain and got pumped to hang on to my place, and try and catch one more racer.

I ended up 1st in the 25-29 yr old division, and everyone got rosted by Hobbie Call who ran a smoking 1:06 and some change.

A good race, and it gives me more confidence to go out and run even faster times.

If my time was 1:20 at the Hurricane I think I can run a really good Hobble Creek race in Aug. This course has the tag line "she's fast, but she aint easy" its true. There are some pretty tought hills. Including the last one that is about a mile long during the 12th mile of the race.

Good work on the race. Unfortunately, my apprehensions about the length of the course have been confirmed. Based on Hobbie's time, I'd say it was about 0.5 mile short, which would give you about 1:23. Hobbie can possibly run 1:06 on a perfectly flat course, but he needs competition to do so, and a few races with competition prior to that to get used to hurting for an hour. On a course with rolling hills and no elevation drop, I would expect for him 1:08 with competition, and 1:09-1:10 without.

Can you find somebody who has a GPS and run the course again to get a more accurate measurement?

After we get the accurate measurement, I can give you an idea of what you should expect in Hobblecreek.

I'll have to find out with a gps. However this is a different course than the one that was a out and back course a few years ago.

As far as what Hobbie can run. I think now he can run the time he did with out competition.

Within as little as 2 miles of the race he was gone... and had seperated himself from the rest of the field by almost half a mile. He's looking very, very fast.

This course also has a pretty good elevation drop. The first 3 miles are all down hill, then from mile 7- 10 its really down hill, but not too steep. I was able to really stride down the worst part.

Hey Clyde,

Once again great job on the race!

With only being 3 weeks out from running Boston, It may of had an effect on why you felt like you were starting to cramp at only 7 miles out. Also, you recently jumped-up your training the last week and a half as well. How did your muscles feel at the end of the race?

My muscles felt o.k. at the end. However I didn't have any kick left. I had to just stay in the same gear as I passed the 4th place guy and 40 yards later or so he passed me back...I just stayed in 4th gear and couldn't shift.
