Well today was the good bad and ugly. I thought I'd redeem myself and re-ride the same loop from Thanksgiving day that kicked my butt. I looked at the weather and there wasn't going to be much wind. So I fueled right before and during and really hit the road ready to smash my 17.7 mph avg from just over a week ago. Through the first 20 miles I was right on with last weeks ride so no gain so far. But in the next hour I hit 17.2 miles today where last week I only hit 13. Got up to Veyo and did have a mild headwind from there down to about the volcano on the marathon course. But I was feeling it and with the added fuel and hydration things were rolling. Came back into town at around a 19.6 mph avg and kept pushing the pace to try and hit a 20 mph by the time I finished. Got to the bottom of Bluff St. and over to River Road at a 19.8 mph avg and thought if I push it hard the last 2 miles I'd really have a chance to hit my goal. So I put my head down and started to hammer. As I crossed the bridge over the river a car passed me and then slammed on it's breaks at the light... I had nowhere to go. Either right in the back of that car or into the gutter and road at a current speed of 27 mph. Plus I was down in the drop bars or (aero position). It's super hard to turn fast or break from this position. So I just got around the car without a collision but was not in the gutter and when my wheels came back in contact with the lip of asphalt it derailed my train and I took a super nasty spill in front of about 15 motorists. A few of them called 911 and the ambulance showed up. I landed on my head (did have a brand new helmet on) and shoulder then the hip. My shoulder took the worst of it as I've either broken some bones or at least dislocated the AC joint. Been there before with this injury. The rest of the injuries were just lumps and patches of road rash (pretty good ones... a PR for sure).  I declined a ride or service from the ambulance and a nice couple gave me a ride home. I was 58 miles into a 60 mile ride... I just about made it. I'd planned on doing a 8-10 mile run after the ride but after the wreck it was out of the question. My bike took a good beating but seems like nothing too crazy in damage. I did beat up some brand new riding gloves, helmet, feet booties, and trashed the buckles on my shoes. And like I said before my shoulder is the worst bodily injury. It's pretty jacked. I'll give it a day or so to see how it feels then go get an x ray. But if it's the AC joint it will heal by it's self with time.

Nothing planned today. I'm not sure what I'll be able to do in my new current physical state. It seems like if it's not one thing it's twenty with my body lately.

60 min's on the spin bike later in the day. Decided to try it and just siting stationary doesn't seem to bother the shoulder too much.

Pretty hard push on the spinner today for 60 min's.

4 miles of running on the treadmill. Just had to try it. Couldn't go very fast and had to run very robotic to keep from swinging the shoulder too far off. But getting some running it will help if I ever plan on getting out of this free fall.

X ray on the shoulder this morning. Looks like the AC joint is separated. Somewhere between a grade 3-4 separation. It hurts pretty much around the clock. Some movements almost floor me. But I'll continue to do what I can with the spinner and treadmill. Doc says I really need to take 4-6 weeks off for full recovery. I'm not sure I can do it. I'll just watch it close and not risk anything extensive.

My wife will not be happy if and when she finds out I ran today... and ran this far. But I just needed it. I needed it more mentally than the pain hurt physically. Put the Hokas on and headed out nice and EZ. Didn't have a plan on mileage just had about 80 min's before I had to get off to pick up Myler. So I basically used my time. At the cut off for 5 miles I just said I'd go to 6.6. Then at the 8 mile cut I just couldn't turn and headed out around the full DC loop. Felt pretty good all things considered. Shoulder always hurts so running doesn't seem to make it hurt worse. But could slow the healing as the goal is to pull the arm up so the clavicle can reattach. But I just tried to keep my shoulder pulled up to my ear while running. IDK. Hip hurt but was runnable. No sharp pain just a dull one throughout the run.

I told my wife and Dr. Prince just yesterday that I'd try not to run on it... and if I did I wouldn't go any more than 5 miles. Oops.

My wife called me an "idiot" for going on a ride today. But she was home and the weather was nice. I needed to see how the bike was holding up after the wreck last week. So I headed out. The shoulder was so so and there were a few really "ouch" moments when I put too much weight on it or pulled up hard. More than anything I'm super "gun shy" now while riding on the side of the road... especially when cars are passing right next to me. I'm guessing it'll take some time before that fear starts to break down.

Anyways I road out to the airport and back. Looped the park both directions. 24.3 miles at a 21.8 mph avg. 69F and sunny. I had on a summer outfit and felt good all things considered.

9.2 mile run after the ride. Got home and wanted to keep rolling out in the sunshine. Mik'L just rolled her eyes as I came in and changed cloths then told her I was going out running. She said I can't say a word about my shoulder hurting because I won't relax and let it heal. But it felt doable... so I ran. Again the Hokas really have helped with my hip area injury. Enough cushioning and bounce to help the foot come through the stride. Middle B-hills loop then extended back around Little Valley. 6:58 min mile avg. Better than I would have guessed.

Kind of a laid back ride today. I was going to look at a few things uptown and just took the bike up. Lots of traffic so going was slow. I'm super shaky on the bike now. No balance and cars freak me out. Once I got done up in town I cycled up the steep Dixie hill and then out the parkway in Washington and back around the fields to home. Harder effort the last 13 but overall a pretty chill ride (it was colder too).

Took the day off. My wife has been sick for 5 days. I finally got it Sunday after taking care of her. Today I just felt like junk.

60 min's on the spin bike. Pretty solid effort.

4 miles running on the treadmill after the bike. Nothing really to report.

Boys run early at my house. Temps were between 27-30 f. A little warmer than yesterday. Winter finally got down here to Utah's Dixie. The run was pretty chill. I did feel a lot tighter than any of the runs I did last week. Which kind of sucks. But better than I've been on other occasions. After 9 miles I had to hit a roadside potty break against a wall. Luckily no cars came during that 45 seconds. JUICY!

Met the Circle of Trust at the marathon finish early on a rainy dark morning. I didn't know how far I'd be able to go with them but just thought I'd stick it out until the pain got bad then cut the run short and head back. Well we just looped out around Green Valley and Bloomington then made our way back to the park. Things stayed in check most of the run but by around 12 or so I did start to feel it. So the last couple miles were pretty slow but the guys were kind enough to slow down as I slugged back the the truck. We'll see how I feel in a few days but overall it was the most positive run maybe since the marathon in October. I'd love to slowly be able to start getting my running base back. It sucks to loose it.

Pretty good run around the B-hills loop then extended into Little Valley. Surprised to see how well I felt after Saturday. Maybe... just maybe things are turning the corner.

Bugged at myself for not getting in something today. I totally wanted too. But it was just one thing after another and I simply ran out of time... then later energy.

Big boys run. Paul joined us for around 4 miles then backed off. Colder today with ICE out on the trail. Had a good amount of rain the last few day and then it cooled last night. Dave even had snow on his Jeep. Felt so so. Kind of soreish but nothing really sharp.

22 F this morning. I wish this chilly air would move on. Bring back the 45-50 rainy weather over this cold stuff. It's hard on the palm trees. Run was pretty good. I went out for 7 or so but just couldn't peel off the loop. Felt like I was fairly stable through about 9 miles but I could tell things were breaking down on the last mile. Hope to stretch good and be ready for a little longer run in the morning with the lads.

Met up with LoGain at the park again in town. Basically did the same loop as last Saturday but a little at the park before and after to square off 16. 24 F this morning and it didn't feel too bad. Running was so so. I felt pretty good for about 12 and the last 4 were hardish. 7:12 avg for the run so a little faster today than last week. Pretty tight by the time I got in the truck.

Middle B-hills loop. Wanted to add another mile or so but it wasn't happening. Hip and groin were more sore than they have been I a couple weeks. Ugh! It's like a reoccurring nightmare. So the whole run was hard and hurt. It's been 6 months since my string of injuries started.... I'm really stating to think I'll never run the same again. A marathon at sub 6 min pace was very typical before... now any run under 7 min pace seems too hard. I just keep thinking that one day it will magically go away.... Santa if you hear me that's my Christmas wish:)

Walked Ears around Little Valley for about 2 mils after the run. It was really nice during those hours of the run and walk. Shorts and warm. Temp was 55 F and sunny. But before and after it's kind of been rainy.

Super hard spinning effort early on Christmas morning. Hit it up for an hour before Myler got up and the craziness began. Needed a good burn and sweat out.

Ran with Stephen on the normal loop. Super chill at chatty pace. I felt pretty sore at the start but it didn't get any worse and the run turned out pretty good. Rainy and some snow today. Enjoying the holiday season.
