Russian champion tries Crocs, commits to racing a marathon in them

Nikolay Chavkin in the video below did 3x1000, first two in Adidas carbon-fiber models, the last one in Crocs. Surprised by the result (2:52, 2:52, 2:50) with the fastest interval done in Crocs, he committed to racing a marathon in Crocs if the video gets 42K likes and 195 comments (for 42 km 195 m, the marathon distance). Nikolay's current marathon PR is 2:14:00. The video was created by a Russian sporting goods store chain. Their moto is "more sports - brighter life", which we think is wonderful, and also deserves a Like. If you want to see a fast marathon in Crocs, go to the video and click the Like button. And make sure to share it with your friends.

Ice loop with a little extra in Jedora. Pretty warm out as the sun was coming up. Just about 70 F at day break. Guess summer is here.

10 miles on the treadmill. Been a while since I've done that much on the machine. Not too bad though.

Baby #3 came this morning at 6:58 a.m. Kaylor Kel Behunin was born first thing. She's so so pretty. Lots of dark hair. 7lbs 14oz and 21 inch long. Both her and Mik'L seem healthy and good. Now I just have to get use to having a little girl. I think I'm a boy kind of daddy... maybe she'll be a Tomboy?

Fields, Lv, DC... kind of a mix and match long run today. Didn't really sleep at all. So I didn't get up on time to join the guys at 5:15. But I did get out at 5:25 from my house and headed out through the fields to see if I'd run into them. I did 5 or so miles into the run. Then I joined and U turned it back with them for  about 6 miles until they turned off River Road. I then headed down the river trail and around the DC loop basically. Miss calculated it a little and extended through B-hills a tad too long. Ok run... but not great. 6:29 avg for the morning. The worst part was that I was 151 lbs after.... 7lbs fatter than I was after last weeks long run. I don't even know how that's possible...? Guess I'll have to be a little more careful on diet this week.

4.4 mile warm up

4 mile tempo @ 5:40 avg

6.2 mile cool down

Ran the fields tempo loop starting from Stucki Farms. Hip really hurt today. Like a 8 out of 10 on the warm up and it didn't feel any better on the tempo. Kind of limped out of the gate to start the tempo. I don't know what to think about this. But I got a workout in... Goal was to hit a 5:50 avg. So I did that. But there wasn't anything glamorous about todays run. The cool down seemed to last forever too. 75 F when I went outside at 5 a.m. Bummer about that too.

3.1 miles on the treadmill this afternoon. Had the ipod running on shuffle and heard some quality Stone Temple Pilots... Plush and Sex Type Thing which I haven't heard in years. Good stuff from the 90's. :)

Dave and Logan conned me into doing a speed workout this morning... last night Dave asked me if I wanted to join him and Logan for a "run". I agreed only to find out 1.7 miles into it that Logan had plans to run hard. Ugh!!!! I almost just let them go. But decided to fight off the pain and see what happened. It was hard and the hip hurt like crazy but we did 5x 180 second sections @ 5:20-5:10 pace (for me). Like a 2 min recovery I think. Anyways I'm up in the air if it was a good or bad choice. But it's done.

Ice loop. Although it wasnt icey. 77 F at 5:30 am and breezy. It felt hot out under the full moon morning. Kept it smooth and ez but right out of the house my hip felt way better than the last couple days. I'm such a different runner when I'm not in crazy pain. Emotionally better too as it takes it's toll day in day out. Hope it feels good tomorrow for the long run.

4 miles in the afternoon on the treadmill. Jammed out to some RHCP video's and music. Sir Psycho, Blood Sugar Sex Magik, CANT STOP. It was all loud.

Long run with the circle out around the fields town loop. It was hot and windy.. it seemed. Kept the pace smooth but not too fast. Did pick it up to about 5:35 min/mile pace on the last two miles to finish off. Ended with a 6:36 avg for the run.

Ice loop. Hip felt semi ok... I'll take it on a Monday morning. Sunday morning was picture perfect- calm, clear, and the temp dropped to 59F. It even felt a little cool. But today was windy and hot at 76F. It seemed though that most of the time today I had a tail wind. Even though.. I still hate wind.

10.2 miles this morning with Logan. The plan was to do a 5 mile tempo. But Logan had a head cold and I didn't want to push it solo... plus the hip was pretty achy. So we just hit the ol' DC loop pretty EZ.

Freeway loop and ish. Thought about a tempo but bagged it again because my hip was jacked. Kept it smooth and just tried to run. Ended up getting owned by the 7 min guy. Hit a 7:01 avg for the run.

4 mile warm up

5 mile tempo @ 5:37 avg

4.5 mile cool down.

Warmed up on the regular dc loop. After four miles I decided to start the tempo. First mile was through B-hills, Second was on the trail above the river and over to the DC. 4&5 up to River Road and 5 was back down the inner river trail. 5:37, 5:32, 5:31, 5:40, 5:43

So so effort and results today. Hip felt doable and ok on the warm up and first two miles of the tempo. But by 2.5 it got tight and then on the last couple miles I was laboring a lot. Feel like I'm stuck in 3rd gear and the motor is rapped out. Just running too hot and not fast enough. Need to find a way to grab another gear or two a long with bringing the rpms down.

4.2 miles on the treadmill this afternoon. Felt fairly good... knock on wood.

22 mile long run at a 6:18 avg. Same loop as last week. I called it the marathon training loop in the winter. Maybe now it can be Duce Duce or Double D... IDK. Anyways Hayden, Aaron and Steve started out with me and took it out pretty fast from the start. The slowest mile all day was 6:49 and that was mile 1. Just kept it honest throughout. Those guys cut back through the middle of the fields and I took it all the way to the trail. Nothing very fast as the fastest mile of the morning was 6:07. Just a good long endurance building workout. Temps were great as it was about as good as it gets in STG in June. Started at 67F and basically didn't get any warmer. With clouds keeping the sun away through the finish. I felt pretty good as well with minimal hip pain.... 4/10.

Ice loop. Didn't get out until about 7 a.m. Sun was already up and it seemed warmer. But temps actually weren't bad at 63F. Sunday my hip didn't hurt at all. Like none. I cannot remember a day where that has been the case. So this morning I was excited to see what running would feel like. It was pretty good but the hip did tighten back up about 3 miles in- but pain wasn't bad 4/10. Kept it smooth and EZ. Saw the of the D-hills cross team but not the old grumpy skipper.

150 lbs after the run. Kind of disappointed about my weight. Just can't shake this last 3-5lbs. Would like to get back around 145lb like I was through the winter. But it just wont go away. :(

Tempo Tuesday with the Circle on the DC loop.

3 mile warm up

5 mile tempo @ 5:30 avg. 5:29, 5:21, 5:24, 5:33, 5:41

Last week I hit a 5:39 avg so today was a little better. But I still struggled to close it out. During the last mile I inhaled a mesquito and it made me start dry heaving, plus the legs were getting heavy and there is a pesky little climb the last .17 or so. But I'd stll like to finish it off stronger. Hip was sorish but very runnable with the heat patch. 69 F when I walked outside. Did one more loop around the park after getting back.

149.5 lbs after the run.... still sitting too heavy. But considering the massive Apollo burger and fries I had for dinner last night. I guess I shouldn't complain.

Tried to pull some mojo from Paul's magical race on Saturday. The guy is amazing. Makes me want to work harder. Not to try and hit a qualifier. I know that's not realistic. But to maximize whatever potential I have left. Thanks for the boost man!

DC loop with some extra at the first in LV. Overcast last night made the morning hot. 80F while out. Took it pretty EZ and just tried to get through the miles. Didn't get much sleep last night so energy was rock bottom. Hip felt pretty good until the last 3 miles. Then it got tight and some clicky pain.  6:58 avg for the run.

DC loop and a little more. Hip hurt more today than all week. And I was already in a cranky mood. Just didn't want to be out today.. but got it done. Will take the afternoon off and get ready for the our marathon tomorrow morning. Hope to feel better then.

Did a marathon training run this morinng. The full 26.2 miles in 2:44:49 or a 6:16 avg. Met the Circle at the DC early and did the marathon training loop with a bunch of add-ons to get the mileage. My goal/plan was to be right around a 2:45. So we did pretty good considering I didn't even look at the clock until about mile 14.

Felt really junky for the first 6 miles or so. Heart rate was crazy high. I was dizzy and the hip was really sore. Maybe after that I just got numb to the pain. But from 7-22 I felt pretty smooth and just clicked off the miles. Hit the last 6 miles or so at 5:50 pace. Took GU's at miles 8.8 and 17.

Good long endurance workout to have in the books. Didn't run hard enough to get sore. So I should recover fine with rest. Glad to have it done- glad the guys agreed to do it with me.

145.5 lbs after the run.
