I didn't really want to go on this run...but went to try and keep my weekly mileage up. Two miles into the run I ran into Bill who was coming off the T'bone trail...This seems like a popular place this week. I didn't loosen up very well before my run so I was really tight and had to stop and stretch. The whole run took me forever today. I had rain the last 3 miles. It wasn’t fun but I’m glad I got the run in. Knee is starting to feel better (now Thursday morning) than it was Tuesday or on the run Wednesday night. I wore a little knee strap thing that seemed to provide some better support.

Ironic I also didn't feel much like running yesterday, feeling a little sore so only went 4.5 miles on the treadmill while watching the Jazz game at home. Hopefully, I'll be more excited tonight since I'm doing hill repeats.

I think I've said this before, but I feel this should be repeated again and again. The difference between the front pack and the midpack is only maybe 30% in the talent. Most of the front pack gets their training in no matter what. Circumstances may make it difficult, and the training may have to be adjusted but it does happen regardless.

On the other hand, while the lack of natural talent is a factor in a number of cases, getting the runs in only when the circumstances make it convenient is most often the very reason for running 4:00 marathon instead of 3:00, or 3:15 instead of 2:30.

It is like home teaching. If we do it only when it is convenient or easy, we get only 50%. I would venture to say that it is convenient to run no more than 50% of the mileage that you can and ought to run to fulfill your true potential under your circumstances. This applies to any life schedule, talent level, etc.

Thus, every time you choose to run in bad weather you are taking a step towards the front pack. Take enough of those steps, and you are in for a pleasant surprise - you start out with them and they cannot drop you.
