Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

4th Annual BD 5K. This was a good test to see 1) if my body could handle running at a hard effort, and 2) what shape I'm in. I have only been running for 3 months after a year off from running and surgery 9 months ago. It's been a very long, slow recovery but I'm taking it one day at a time. Anyway, my aim was 7:15 pace - this is a hard 5K course (two loops with 90ft hill), it was hot, and I have not run a single mile under 7:30.

I started out at what felt like a reasonable pace- the first mile is downhill and was 6:35. Ran up the hill feeling strong and splashed some water on myself at the halfway. Back downhill and hit the second mile at 6:50. Breathing got really heavy up the hill again but kept the pace consistent and mile 3 was 6:50. The course was probably 10 seconds short.

I was very happy with how I felt running. I had no abdominal or adductor pain at all. My heels hurt a little at the end, but no more than usual. I'm not in good enough shape to get that true 5k-hurts like h*ll feeling but I'm okay with that for now :)

This gave me a tiny glimpse of hope that I may be able to run fast again and compete. That's thinking really far ahead, but it is nice to have that hope back. For now, I'll keep trying to increase my miles slowly and get out in the mountains as much as possible!

Just goes to show that a regimen of 3-4 mile horsepark jogs and daily poolside piña coladas really pays dividends.

way to exceed your expectations -- by a lot! great to hear there was no pain.

maybe we can do a hurts like h*ll 5k around lake louise.

Good to see you out running and racing. I like the poolside training, too. It's around 90 here and a bit hazy. And that sounds much better than an afternoon run.

Horsepark runs + nightly pina coladas + lots of time in the mountains = winning combination. If only work wasn't stuck in the middle...

Allie - I'm sure there's a track somewhere in Banff, right?! Otherwise we can just do the Glacier 5k.

Banff High School (located between MOOSE and WOLF streets... Do those kids know how lucky they are?) does not appear to have a track but I see one on google maps to the southwest of Banff center. Seems Silverton-esque.

If we do a glacier 5k we can just rope up. That ensures a close finish and if anyone pushes the pace, they'll suffer!

Your progress so far is great!

Congrats! So good to see you back at it. You will really have turned the corner from the injury and know you are healed, when you no longer need to even think about it (or blog about it anymore). Sounds like that time is really close.
