Quality for the Olympic Trials in the marathon Personal: I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.
I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)
I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

| | Lunch run with San from work...we ended up running quite a bit farther than I was anticipating but I held up pretty well.
PM - Jake and I decided to skin up at Alta again this evening, 1800ft. My left abdominals started to hurt by the end, so I did a little more than I could handle today.

| | Jake and I decided to test our skills a bit and bootpack up Main Chute at Alta then ski back down. It's been a long time since we've done a snow climb (mostly because I haven't been healthy enough), and I really enjoyed the challenge. 2500ft with about 1700ft of skinning and 800ft of bootpacking.
PM - Decided not to run but did some strength training instead.

| | AM - Morning skin/bootpack up the east face of Mt. Baldy at Alta, 2300ft.
PM - 3 miles in the middle of nowhere of West Valley City, 8:05 pace.
Week summary: 19 miles of running and 8400ft of skinning/bootpacking (~21 miles equivalent). I've had a little irritation on occassion, mostly the left abdominals attachment and iliotibial ligament. I've had some heel pain crop up the last few days from the increase in activity - just need to keep the calves looser. I felt like this week was good progress.

| | AM - Trail run on the Klonzo Trails in Moab...Borderline -> Wahoo -> Cross Canyon -> Secret Passage -> Dunestone -> Borderline for about 6 miles. This area is a great place to run.
PM - Hiked Fisher Towers Trail in Moab, ~4.2 miles.

| | AM - Morning run on the Bar M Trails of 6 miles...started on Bar M then cut onto Lazy EZ trail.
PM - Mountain biking/hiking on the Klondike Bluffs Trail. Loved it - the trail was perfect for Jake and my ability level on the bike (not so great). The last half mile is a short hike into Arches for an overlook of the Bluffs.

| | AM - Woke up early to take advantage of the 16" of new snow up at Alta before it all turned to mush. Jake and I ended up having a fun 4 hour ski tour of 5 laps and 4400ft. It was quite difficult to ski because we couldn't make out the difference between the ground and the sky, hence my "try not to crash" ski shot :)
Week summary - Only 15.5 miles of running this week but 8000ft of skinning (~20 miles equivalent running). Jake and I decided to join VASA Fitness so we could go to the hot tub 3-4x a week, and I anticipate it being a huge factor to both of us getting healthier!

| | AM - Skied Granny's Chute at Wolverine Cirque. Hiked with skis on the pack for about a mile, up to Patsy Marley and traversed to Granny's. Skied a couple laps then back out. Quite an adventure.

| | AM - Pipeline Couloir! Started from Snowbird base and hiked about 1200ft to the snow, skinned up to the base of the couloir, and bootpacked it up to the top. We decided to summit the West Twin which turned out to be sketchy. The ski down was super fun though - such an iconic line and the steepness (42 degrees) was definitely doable with the slushy conditions. A fun adventure with about 3500ft of vertical.
PM - Horsepark loops for 4 miles, 8:30 pace. Tired!
Week summary: Only ended up with about 17 miles of running in 4 days this past week but with 10,000ft of skinning/bootpacking/hiking with skis (~25 miles running equivalent). Work has been really busy and stressful recently, so all the time in the mountains has been much needed.
