Quality for the Olympic Trials in the marathon Personal: I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.
I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)
I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

| | AM - Got my lost 14 hours back and got into Portland, Maine around midnight. The travel was tough and I wasn't feeling too great. I ended up being wide awake until 4:30am then woke up for the Wedding Mile race about 10 minutes before the start. I tried to run hard but didn't even wear a watch because I didn't want to know. I think they picked the hilliest course possible! Afterwards Jake and I ran 4 more miles at a snails pace.

Dash for Donation 5K (3.107 Miles) 00:19:00, Place overall: 1 | | Dash for Donation 5K at Sugarhouse Park. Jake helped to organize this race and signed me up a couple months ago. I was actually pretty worried about running it because of so much travel, only short runs, and some abdominal pain recently. When Jake and I ran the course on Thursday, I thought that under 20:30 would be reasonable. Two laps around Sugarhouse Park is not an easy 5K course! I ran a short 1 mile warm-up and a couple strides prior to the race. Jake decided to run with me which always helps me run a little harder. After the first half mile, my breathing was already pretty labored - not surprising as I haven't run faster than 7:45 pace in 2 months since the last 5K! Came through the first mile in 6:12 then really started struggling after 1.5 miles. I do think the downhill portions of the race helped keep me going and let my breathing recover quite a bit. The second mile was 6:17 and then we caught up to one of Rob's runners. Jake started casually talking to him, asking him questions and such - apparently he doesn't remember how hard racing a 5k is, not to mention talking during a race! So naturally I told him to shut up :) I tried to pick it up for the last mile and hit 6:00 with :31 for the last 0.1 miles. Right before the finish I saw the clock ticking towards 19 and really tried to get in the 18s but ended up right at 19:00...reminded me of my fastest marathon, half marathon, 5k, etc. I just can't seem to get timing quite right! I am very happy with my performance. I know it's not even close to the level I was at a few years ago, but it felt great to be able to run that fast again. I am already sore from the race so I know I was working pretty hard out there. I'll probably run another 5K in two more months just to see how much I improve by more running. I've still got a lot of work to do on my rehab as my adductors and psoas are still not strong enough. But I'm getting there, slowly making progress every month. |

PM - Corporate Games Mountain Biking Race. Jake and I rode the course prior to the race. I was in the beginner division so the course was only 3 miles long. I was pretty happy with how well I rode the course because my technical skills need a lot of work. I won the division and our team overall got second by only one place! My chest and throat hurt so bad after the race from breathing extremely smoky and dirty air.

| | AM - Pipeline Trail from the Burch Hollow Trailhead to the end and back, 9.3 miles at 8:30 pace. Ran a good pace on the way out but crashed on the way back. I have already taken 3 naps and have probably sneezed 100 times today so I must have gotten some kind of bug.
Jake is treating me to a night up at Alta Lodge after a hard week at work so we are spending the rest of the weekend in the mountains 😀

| | AM - Started from Alta Lodge and ran up and around the Albion Basin Campground then back down. The run gains about 1000ft over 3 miles at ~9000ft so it was pretty tough, especially after doing a longer run yesterday. Averaged 9:00 pace. We reminisced about the last time we did this run two years ago with the other JAs.
