UVU Invite! I was signed up for the 2000M steeplechase and the 800M run. I ran a warmup to and from the bathroom in the school with Patrick and Caden, plus some more on the track and some strides with jumps over the barriers on the boys height. I prefer practicing with the boys height, it makes the race easier. Just before our steeple race, I discovered that only 1 other girl in my race had ever done steeple before. That gave me a lot of confidence. We all ran practice jumps together, and I kept landing with 2 feet, oops. Then I heard someone say "One foot Abbie, one foot." UVU coach. Great, pressure: on. At the start I was seeded 2, and when the gun fired I ran off. Another girl ran way ahead, and I knew she was one of the girls who had never done it before, so I didn't worry about her. I was a few steps behind her the first 2 laps, and just before the water barrier on the 3rd lap I passed her and felt her mentally lose it, which gave me some more adrenaline. I spent the rest of the race gapping and going for a PR. Missed it by 4 seconds, but I'm still really happy I won :) I got a Meet Champion bag! I cooled down for a little bit after watching all the boys race, then I tanned for a few hours until it was time for the 800. Emmaline and I were in the same heat, so we ran to the bathroom together and did some more warmup, strides, and drills together. I was seeded 12. I started fast and just went with the back of the pack. On my second lap I was feeling really good, and went to pass people. I moved up to 2nd place! But as soon as I turned the corner down the last straightaway, 3 girls passed me and I couldn't kick as hard. Then another girl caught me at the line, so I was in 5th, but then in the chute they moved a girl who was obviously behind me in front of me, which made me really mad. Someone better watch that finish video. I didn't have time to cool down, I had to get to work, so my mommy and I filled the car with us kids who have jobs and took us all home so we could go work. Altogether, it was a great day! :)
