Short-Term Running Goals:

2023 GOALS:

Coastal Delaware Running Festival Marathon - 4/16/23 - Rehoboth Beach, Delaware

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 17, and 18.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

I have no idea why, but I started thinking about this first thing this morning:

https://fastrunningblog.com/u/kendall/blog--Tibble-Fork-to-Alpine-via-Dry-Creek-/05-25-2013.html

Every now and then, I think about this dude running with a decomposing deer skull strapped to his back, and it cracks me up. That guy used to have the best daily running reports, full of pictures. It was like he was marketing trail running for a job.

I don't read many books, but I went through this one in just a few days. The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel. Maybe it is because I haven't read a book in a while, but I really enjoyed this.

Hood route to legacy trail and back. Longest run since 11/24/23. 2 reasons for this:

1. Large equipment removing branches, and trail clearing right now. so doing laps on the trails is out today.

2. My company has offered to pay for my race entry to a local half or 5k around St. Patrick's Day. I have been bummed about running since my last race in April. But the possibility of the return of "Fatty McButterpants", and having my company pay for it, might be enough of a push to get me into a training mode for the next 2 months. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.

2 on the trails. I'm very angry about something at work, and another thing at home, so I went for a run. Run cut short because of homeless lady yelled across pinebrook road for me to call 911. I don't run with a phone. Had to flag down a car from the backside of the full drainage ditch. after 10 cars ignored me, 2 old dudes in a mini van stopped. Explaining the situation to them, and watching them fumble through old guy vs. technology, was painful. As he's calling, a fleet of ambulances are in route to the retirement center just down the street, and he says that must be for her. No. No, No please keep dialing sir. please hit that last number. Then they didn't know what road they were on. So i have to scream across the drainage ditch at them, because they are hard of hearing, and now traffic is building up. Eventually, a police officer shows up, and asks her her age. She is my age. Crazy. I thought she was easily 15 years older than me. I ask the officer if he has the situation handled, and he says i can go. maybe a half hour of this nonsense. So in that last part running, I hear 2 fleets of ambulances coming from 2 different directions, and I'm getting angry about all of the money getting wasted here. And I'm thinking of having to run by this ridiculous situation on subsequent laps, so I pulled the plug on the run.

Long story short, the run didn't relieve me of my other troubles, it only added a new layer of anger.

Deep breath. You did what you could to help. Far more than most. You made a difference. Small things like that count.

I was in a situation also some months ago. Not quite as chaotic but still stressfull.. Witnessed a traffic accident in front of me while out running. Nobody seemed to know what to do or how to respond in the moment. Like Michael said; Take a deep breath. You did the best you could.

On the trails. I was trying to straighten out my back with a run. I tweaked my back shifting around a fence gate I was repairing Saturday. The run did not fix things. The superbowl was pretty painful, so off to the chiro Monday.
