Short-Term Running Goals:

2024 GOALS:

to not get fat

Long-Term Running Goals:

Continue running as often as I can, as far as I can, as fast as I can. Teaching my kids (by example) the rewards that come from putting in the work. Very slowly get to 50 states.

Personal:

I'm married, with two sons, 18, and 19.

I started running because someone dared me to.

I ran my first race 3 days after my 40th birthday. (Disney)

1st run since the storm. I was hoping the trails would be cleared and that I could have a run I expected to be ugly in private. The trails were not cleared, and at one point became impassible (fallen trees, washed out areas, etc.). So this ended up as 1.5 on the trails, then 2.5 on a modified hood route, including a chunk of edmonson road. I've been busy with post hurricane stuff, but that is not what has kept me from running. A hurricane related injury got me.

The thing with living down the street from my elderly parents is, my dad is constantly trying to prove to everyone that he is not elderly. So I have to anticiate the death defying moves this guy is about to do. Do those things myself before he can get to them, usually with him complaining that I "don't need to do that" the entire time that I totally need to do that. For example, I have to always be aware if his trees require pruning soon. Otherewise, my mom will call me up and tell me there's an 81 year old on a ladder running a pole saw in the back yard. There is a lot of work setting up for, and breaking down from a hurricane. And I live in a city of olds. There are people outside of my family that need help. I (well, me and my boys) have to put up the hurricane shutters for these widows that have no one else around to help them.

My parents have a killer hurricane prep system - corrugated aluminum panels held in with wing nuts. Well, as I was racing through the breakdown of my parents hurricane, I tripped over something, stubbing toes on both feet somehow, and falling down hard on my knee on concrete. I thought for sure I broke my big toe. But so far, it is just a blue toenail. But I can't help thinking that I was going too fast, that I have to move the panels around to the front of the house before my dad tries to. That's what ultimately led to the fall.

My mom insisted that I sit down. Because old man skin is weak, and my dad will not stop doing things, she is like a wound care center at this point in her life. She has lots of cleaning and bangdaging related items around the house. She insisted that she treat my bleeding knee. I was transported in time to when I was ten and my mom was bandaging my knee. I almost cried.

Oh...WOW...I was worried about you. Sent a private message during the ordeal. Glad there were no broken bones (you or your dad)! Hope the hurricane damage was not too bad for you. What great service and caring for your neighbors. The world needs more like you!

I don't know about all that. Without a doubt, I didn't go into the work with a joyful heart.

Radio silence from my homeowner's insurance still. I fixed my own roof shingles before the first rain after the storm came. I know guys that made the 1.5 hour call to FEMA and had a check cut immediately. You know, before I make you taxpayers pay for my repairs, I'd like the insurance company to respond. This is getting annoying.
