Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I haven't looked at my Garmin since this morning and I am too lazy to get up and get it!   But I think my time was 28ish minutes.  Weird thing, I ran the same course last Friday and it came up with a different distance.  Oh well....

Had a great day with lots of family in town.  I wore my ankle brace all day and tonight it feels good.  I am going to the foot doctor tomorrow.....watch out buddy, I have lots of stuff to go over!

3.5 miles - 35 minutes

There were lots of people at the gym this morning.  It sure has been a treat to sleep in and go to the gym later (thanks to hubby being home).  It is going to be a rude awakening come next week when I have to get my lazy hiney out of bed!

I went to the foot doctor today.  The tendon that holds my ankle bone and muscles in place is still really weak.  He recommended that I get specialized orthotics (lightweight for running) for extra support.  $300 bucks - ouch!  But he didn't think that I had refractured it and it was the sore tendon.

Onward and upward!

I totally can't remember what my time was...so I will just say SLOW SLOW SLOW!  Non-the-less, I did it and I am grateful to be running.

Hooray for the snow today - it is about time (a week too late)!

43 minutes

This was my "long" run of the week since I am running the "Beat the New Year" 5k tomorrow and will be recovering on Saturday.  Time seemed to fly by!

I took down all my Christmas decorations today and deep cleaned the kitchen/family room.  It always feels liberating to get all of that done!

It has taken me a day to recover from a *middle of the night* run (hence the delay in the race report)! Though I slept in some, I was all out of whack yesterday.  I definitely an early to bed kind of gal!

What a fantastic night!  The Salt Lake City Track Club was much more prepared this year than last.  The registration was held at the high school so there was much more room (and it was really warm inside...almost too warm).  They had more race shirts and more man power.

Not as many costumed runners this year (no hairy speedo guy or bikini lady), but still more runners than last year despite the frigid temperatures!

Kelli was a ROCK STAR for trucking up to Sugar House in the middle of the night on a freakin' cold night (My clothing count consisted of 2 pants and 5 shirts)!  She ran with me and was hardly breathing (while I was huffing and puffing)!  What a great pacer and chatter (I am a really bad talker when I run)!

The course was two laps around Sugar House park (the Garmin said the distance was 3.18 - they did change the course alittle from last year).  There was snow covered ice which made it tricky for gripping!  You had to be really careful going down the downhills and slipped while going up!

I am becoming more and more aware of just *how* out of shape I really am.  I am starting all over again. BUT I am very ok with that fact, because I am running and not recovering!

Mile splits: 8:38, 8:30, 8:17, 1:38

Thanks again Kelli for driving and for the GREAT company!

Actually, I ran this on Friday morning.  I felt like doing more, but wanted to strictly stay within my 10% mileage increase.
