Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I wanted to make sure I gave my ankle plenty of rest after my long run on Saturday.  Paranoia, I know, but I just don't want to repeat last year!

My arms were super sore after those few push ups I did on Saturday.

Brrrr...I have not been able to warm up all day!  Do you ever feel like your to-do list just gets longer, but nothing ever gets crossed off?

Run felt ok today at the gym (just not super motivated).  Too lazy to get up this morning, so I went gyming this evening.  Done and done!

39 minutes - The miles went on forever.  My arms were sore from below workout and I was thinking about the big pot of chicken noodle soup at home.

Lifting upper body (I totally stole this workout from Kelli!  But I didn't do as heavy as weights as she used.)

Upper Body - repeated 3x

     bench press -  15 reps

So so so tired this afternoon.  I've been lazy all week and have been going to the gym in the evenings.  But not today and I am feeling the effects!  My arms are sore from yesterday's lifting, but what a great feeling!

I got on the scale last night and couldn't believe my weight - 15 lbs over what I would like.  How does it creep up so fast!  Why is it so hard to have self mastery over food?  It is like an addiction almost.  I've never had to worry about my weight until these past few years.  It's been on my mind constantly!  I love to eat treats - right now my favorite are the mini chocolate covered donuts.  How can I get this self control over stupid FOOD!

But my run felt great and I am excited for lifting and 6.5 tomorrow!

Have you ever felt like "you've been hit by a truck" tired?  That is how I feel today after this workout.  A nap is definitely in order.  I lifted arms and a few legs today.

It took me about 3 miles to shake out whatever stiffness I had from lifting.  I felt good but the miles seem to go by slowly!  I bought a visor to wear and hopefully act as a sweat absorption device!  It didn't bother too much, but it was definitely wet by the end of the run and I still had to keep wiping my face.

I've eaten pretty good today.  No soda or treats.  But I am really craving something sweet - I should go and chew some gum!
