Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I went to see a doctor who specialized in sports medicine yesterday - I almost canceled because my ankle was feeling a lot better, but glad I didn't.  He was awesome and didn't look at me funny because I was a runner.  Actually, he works a lot with the BYU running teams and wish I had the budget that those teams did (they don't seem to sorry about cost!).  Nice guy and seemed to know his stuff.

They took an x-ray of my ankle and didn't see any fractures.  He said a lot of time they don't see the tiny stress fractures so he wanted to do a bone scan.  I felt like I had to coordinate a 3-ring circus trying to get my big kids to school - someone to watch my 2 year old daughter - pick up kids and take to art lessons and someone else to watch my 2 year old.  Going to the hospital twice in 3 hours ALONE is tricky.  I think I have it all worked out though.  Tuesday is the day.

So I'm still out for alittle while.  He told me to get into the pool and to bike.  Sadly, I have a fear of water.  Yep - I admit it.  The only time I get in a swim suit is to take my kids to swimming lessons and I sit on the side.

I don't know how to swim.  AT ALL!  So I did my version of a back stroke and was breathing hard for 45 minutes.  I'm sure I broke all the pool etiquette rules and looked like a wreck.  Next time, I'll go to spin.

Good news is I got into Grandma's and have a hotel (rooms are hard to find in that little city).

Off to wash sheets!

You peed in the pool, didn't you?

It was feeling a bit warm - I'm sure it was the guy next to me!

Burt - LOL :)

TBarlow - Good luck w/ your ankle, I hope your bone scan goes good with some happy results for you. Keep up the positive attitude :) (there used to be a sign at the pool I went to as a kid. it said, "Welcome to our ool, notice there is no P in it, please keep it that way!" :)))))

Great job conquering your fear and getting in the water. I can swim marginally and am not afraid of the water, but swimming is not my thing, so I'm with you, sort of.

I hope you get good news from the bone scan. Be sure to let us know.
