Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

3 miles walking on treadmill - 45 minutes (ran 1 minute) and ankle still feels good.  Tomorrow, I'm going to try 2 minutes.

Saw lady wearing really bad hair extensions at gym.  I'm not against extensions, but with the pounds of makeup on her face and hooker pink crazy outfit it was hard not to notice her.

I LAUGH at people like that (and point and star, too!)

Nice job, good luck with the 2 minutes!

You commented about my weight on my blog, so i am going to tell you a story! I hate to bore everyone else. After Boston my trainer noted that I looked "puffy" (which is fine, he is honest, I had gained 11 pounds!) I told him to tell me when he thought my weight had gotten back to pre-Boston weight---when he told me I was looking great and that I looked like I weighed 125 (I WISH!!!) Anyway, IT finally happened today! My weight is not even all the way there, but he said I was looking as toned as before and not PUFFY. HAPPY DAY!

Happy day for you Kelli!

My weight just keeps creeping higher and higher. YUCK! I'm blaming it on my not being able to run, but I really know it is what I'm shoving into my mouth :) I just love my treats too much!

At running group the other day we were talking about my insane miles (I can acknowledge this) and they said, "You must really love running!" And I said, "No, I actually do not even like it. I just like to eat jink!!!"

Honestly, many days I regret pushing my miles this high, I can never go back because of the FOOD!!!!

You will get there, I know it stinks when you can not run (that is the only time I miss it, when I CAN'T). We need to get together for a run, so GET BETTER!!!!!

From Kelli on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 22:54:53 from 71.219.93.114

Oh, and I still feel plenty jiggly! I have a ton, but it is not going anywhere. I just have to be happy with it, it is stuck on me for life. I refuse to run 150 miles a week to get rid of it, and I refuse to give up food!

I gotta start going to the gym after hearing about all the crazy people that show up at gyms.

Keep smiling! A minute here and there IS progress. Early morning walks are the BEST; I miss it. If it ever stops raining here, I am gonna go for a walk!

i run because of my love of unhealthy foods too! i had gained a lot of weight when i quit playing sports (after high school) and in my first 6 months of running, i lost 30 pounds! i don't think i've lost any since then. i'd love to lose 10 more. but, if i don't, i'm happy with where i am now. you'll be back to where you were in no time, toby.

Gotta love gym weirdos. There is a lady at my gym that I often see who does her hair all pretty and has loads of makeup on and dazzling ear rings and she walks around in nothing more than a hot pink sports bra and short hot pink shorts. She must feel very confident. The thing is, she is actually quite large. I mean not just kinda bigger, but very large. I guess some people just don't mind showing off their "features."

As for the addiction to food.....I hear that. I love to eat too and always put on weight when I'm not "in training."

We run for ice cream, it is all good!
