Favorite Running Quotes:

1.

"Sooner or later the serious runner goes through a special, very personal experience that is unknown to most people.

Some call it euphoria. Others say it's a new kind of mystical experience that propels you into a elevated state of consciousness, a flash of joy.

A sense of floating as you run. This experience is unique to each of us, but when it happens, you break through a barrier that separates you from casual runners. Forever. And from that point on, there is no finish line. You run for your life. You begin to be addicted to what running gives you."

~Nike Poster

2.           A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Lao-Tzu

You’ve no doubt heard this.  And you’ve probably recited it in your mind on a run or at the gym when you’re just beginning to get in shape.  You have a goal in sight and this quote brings you back to the current moment.

But the problem is that many runners forget all of the steps between the first one and the goal.  If your goal is to run under two hours for the half marathon then you need to be honest about all of the little steps to get to that goal.

…and what I’d rather see you do is to get the goal out of mind completely, but rather focus on the process, not the outcome. -Jay Johnson Process orientation, not outcome orientation.

You should have goals, but you should take it one step at a time.  And you should be honest about the fact that you don’t know how many steps it will take to get there. ~ Vernon Gambetta

3.  Human beings are made up of flesh, blood and a miracle fiber called COURAGE! ~ George Patton

4.   Find the courage to be patient.

I am getting more comfortable in the water, but need to take lessons if I am going to keep it up.  I don't feel like I am getting that "high" when I do when I run.  I guess that is the frustrating part.

From the looks of it, I'd think you were trainig for a tri.. or trying to recover from an injury. Nice workout today!

From leslie peterson on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 15:12:06 from 174.52.158.81

Thanks for dropping me a line! Looks like you are training for a tri. I have done a couple and plan to do Jordonelle again, but I do it "granny style" haha! Good luck on your training!

From Burt on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 15:18:03 from 206.19.214.144

What's the latest Toby? Diagnosis yet?

From Ericka on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 15:21:39 from 63.248.84.45

I should be biking and swimming, but boarding takes precedence right now. Jordanelle is a good one though. I'll most likely be doing it too! :)

Nice workout. At the Lehi Legacy Center you can take adult swim lessons if you are interested. They also offer Tri classes.

I had the bone scan yesterday, but I think it will be turn of the century before I hear the results. The world of medicine is so complex!

I wish I was training for a tri (maybe), but I'm just trying to get over an injury!

From Burt on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 16:07:05 from 206.19.214.144

Keeping my fingers crossed for you.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 17:47:32 from 71.219.89.82

I hope you get the results QUICK and that they can figure out what is going on and get you all fixed up!!!!

Here is a question for ya: How tall are you? We seem to weigh about the same (and we gain and lose at about the same rate) AND we both want to weigh about the same. I think we need to band together and lose our5-10 pounds. I need someone or something to motivate me and I am nominating you!!!!!!

From leslie peterson on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 17:51:01 from 174.52.158.81

Kelli, you two girls look perfect!! I want to you look like you. My plan to lose 10 pounds before Sat. are down the toliet.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 17:57:11 from 71.219.89.82

Um, yes, Leslie. My plans went down the toilet as well! I am just stuck on my forever plateau of 140-143. So, the new goal is 135 by my Birthday and then celebrating with all of my friends at the Cheesecake factory!!!! WE HAVE TO GO THERE, I still have never been.

From leslie peterson on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 18:22:53 from 174.52.158.81

Kelli when is your birthday? My goal is to get to 148 by my birthday on March 19th. Maybe I will wire my jaw shut! haha!

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 18:27:58 from 71.219.89.82

February 27th. That gives me 5 weeks---a little more than a pound a week.

What I need is a Ragnar relay, those things make me lose 8 pounds in two days. Then, to not eat for a day (and gain it all back) and just hold on tight!!!!

Man, I love food too much. And, guess what? Ashly got a job and my favorite bakery!! Not good. I threatened her with her life if she brings me home any cookies or brownies!!!!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 18:31:19 from 24.8.167.243

Great cross-training, Toby. I hope you get the results of the bone scan soon and that it's good news so that you can get back to running.

From TBarlow on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 19:41:48 from 216.194.124.36

My weight loss plans are going down the toilet! Brownies and ice cream on a regular basis are not helping my goals! I've lost some motivation since I can't run right now. Swimming and biking aren't my mojo :)

I'm 5'11 and I weighed myself this morning - 143lbs. I want to lose 10-15. We all need to meet up for a celebration dinner. What is going to be are deadline and MOST importantly, where are we going to celebrate?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 19:47:59 from 71.219.89.82

CRUD---you are 5'11"??? You are already a twig at 143!!! I can not believe you want to lose 10-15 pounds!!! I am only 5'7", I am a chub!!! I only was trying to get to 135, maybe I need to go lower?!? Of course, D chest alone must count for something, right????

My deadline for losing 6 pounds was 5 weeks from now----my Birthday! Make a goal, and we will go out and PARTY for my 36th.

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 19:49:44 from 71.219.89.82

OH, and I lose motivation even when I can run. I am a lost soul-I need to go eat a cookie or something.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 20:02:00 from 206.19.214.144

Uh, can we not talk about bra sizes when there are gentlemen in the room?

From Kelli on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 21:20:37 from 71.219.89.82

Sorry Burt, I did not look to see who was in the ROOM!!! But I gotta blame my weight on something now that I know she is TWIG.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 21:31:42 from 98.177.216.165

It's okay Kelli. I don't even know what size D means. Maybe if I'd paid more attention to your bosoms when I met you, I'd have an idea.

From TBarlow on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 23:24:13 from 216.194.124.36

Unfortunately, all 4 of my kids sucked out all my "assets". It is SO SO sad :)

Last summer while I was running, I was in the low 130's and I think I need to be there now! I really need to gain some muscle. I'm still in for a weekly weigh-in. What is our deadline?

Burty - you in?

From Burt on Wed, Jan 20, 2010 at 23:39:15 from 98.177.216.165

Hmmm...actually I'm trying to grow my boobs bigger. So...I don't know how that's gonna work.

From Kelli on Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 00:04:20 from 71.219.89.82

Burt, that would be a bad, bad, bad idea!!!!! And you are always part of our sports bra conversations so you might as well be part of this one!

Seriously, you must have been a bean pole in the 130's! But, everyone has a different HAPPY weight, so I am all for it!

I weighed 142 when I got married at the age of 18. I was a stick, had very low body fat and a ton of muscle (I ran track and lifted weights 4 times a week). I was a size 4 (and sometimes 6) and I was happy!!! Now, I weigh less than that, but I am a bowl of jelly---darn five kids! When the trainer takes my body fat he does an average using my arms, my legs, and my gut. My arms are pretty good, my legs have no fat (genetics) but my belly is just full of it (genetics and ice cream)! I need a darn tummy tuck or something.

I say we weigh in once a week together. I like Thursdays----gives you a few days to get the weekend weight off!!! Or Fridays. What day do you think? Honestly, if I do not weigh 135 by my 36th birthday I am going to give up (not really, but I will be mad).

Do you watch Biggest loser? I was thinking you said you were a fan. What do you think about this week? She totally through the weigh in, the darn liar! Just admit it already, it is a game and if that is how you want to play it, FINE---but at least admit it. I wanted to throw the remote at the TV.
