I wasn't going to run this 5k but I am glad that I did...
I am pretty sure that here in Del Rio they put one race on a year; Running of the Bulls. The race was held in one of the more "pretty" areas of Del Rio. Temp was perfect for a race, about 58 degrees.
Warmed up with David for a mile running up the course. Lined up under the Red Bull balloon arch and observed those that lined up at the front. David had a little group of fast runners from the base he was surrounded by and there weren't any "fast" looking ladies. There was a woman in her 70s that was repeating, "Let's go!" over and over. She was wearing a pink sweatsuit that I thought was just darling. She was up at the start line near David, it made me laugh.
Off we went. Course was not marked and I did not run with a Garmin, so I did not know my mile splits. They had to drink stations so I think those were the mile marks. Hit each about 7 minutes. I kept pace with a guy in a blue shirt for about a mile. He was really getting on my nerves, so I slowed down a bit so I wouldn't have to run with him.
Finished as the first lady by a minute. Near the finish I saw David and I was proud to be the first lady when I saw him. After the finish I felt really good. I was happy when David told me that we did we swept the titles. I was so excited that we both won! His time was 16:53, seesh!
We cooled down two more miles on the course and cheered other runners in. When they announced both of us as the winners they took our pictures with the city Mayor and the Wing commander of the base. Proud couple. Sadly, we didn't win any of the prizes from the hefty raffle they had at the end. :( |
