Ran the Tri-States marathon. The forecast was for 15 degrees at the start and snow coming. I wore old shoes.........I went out very relaxed at 28 degrees. I lead for the first 1/4 mile so I knew this was not going to be a fast marathon. I just kept a steady pace that felt very comfortable. The first 9 miles I averaged 6:50 pace and mile 10 and ll @ 7:07. During mile 11 I felt blisters coming on both feet...old shoes that were broken down under my big toe.
I began thinking about packing it in for the day at the half. Justin Robins was starting the Half marathon and I would be coming in about the same time. After a few minutes I decided to quit at the half mark. I get there and he is gone....what to do? I stood there for a minute thinking and 2 women were standing there waiting to start the Half and one had forgotten shoes......her husband brought them to her and I drove back with him....LOSER.
A couple days later now I think it was wise but I still feel bad for quiting.
