Today we did our service project and then went to the Jordan River Parkway and went for 3 miles. Then we went to the team dinner at Emily's house. It was fun!

Warmup of 1.5 miles. Then got my spikes on and gued and ran to the line and did a few strides.

I got an okay start, but not the best. I was behind 2 different packs when we were going around the baseball thing: 3 people up front (one of them Abigail) and then another group in front of me. I worked my way up to that group, and on rollercoaster I was up with them. Then I just kept telling myself to work with them.

I could feel myself starting to crash, and I noticed how easily thos enegative thoughts crept into my mind, and as soon as I recognized them I thought up as many positive thoughts I could, even if it meant lying to myself. That kept me going for a bit longer. Then I crashed, and I focused on what I could: not stopping at the top of the hills. I know it's kind of a sad thing to focus on, but it was actually really challenging for me to do. But I never stopped. I was telling myself all throughout the 2nd mile that I needed to work harder, but I never actually did until after rollercoaster when I realized that there was only a little over a mile left. Even then it wasn't much of a change, but it was better than slowing down. I could tell that by now Ellie was right behind, and it helped to have her there to push me. When coming down the hill before bessie Bill told both of us to try to catch at least 2 people, so I tried. I sped up, but once on bessie I had a really hard time. I knew that it was the last stretch and so I managed to push up the hill, but in the meantime both Ellie and another girl passed me. I hate hills. Then it was just the sprint to the finish line but there was no change there

I'm really disappointed about my race, I was hoping to be in the top 10, but no I wasn't even in the top 20. And Olivia and Ellie both ran faster than I did. But I'm just gonna take my vitamins and do the best I can to get ready for state, and use this as a learning experience the best I can.

We went up to the post office that we met at for the des news 10k and turned then went up by the start of the 10k, then into the campus and up to Red Butte. We got a drink at the drinking fountain then went up to the fence. And then I found 10 dollars.

I had fallen off of the group (I chose to go with the boys and Abigail) and saw Sam go onto a trail and thats the only way I knew to go on to the trail. I was too far back though to know where to go after that. It forked so many times, and I just had to use my best judgement to try to figure out which one to take. This happened at least 5 times. Then the trail finally didn't fork anymore and I thought that I was going the right way, but then it went downhill, and I followed it for a while, but then I got to a spot where I could see down where the rest of the trail went and it just kept going downhill. I figured this was NOT going to take me to JCC like I wanted, so I just turned around and went back to the fence. I did the legacy bridge run back.

Speed today. We did a mile warmup mile speed changes. Then we did a lap to stay warmed up. Then we did the not-telling-us-what-the-entire-workout-is type of workout. We did a 2000, mile, and then a 1200. For the 2000 I was supposed to hit 8:00 I think. Bill just said hit the first lap at this time and then get 4 seconds slower each lap. I started out fast, but then as I got slower I slipped and hit it at 8:09. But I was the closest in our group to hitting it. Everyone else was behind me.

Then for the mile we were supposed to start slower and then speed up. weirdly, this wasn't so bad for me. I liked starting slow and then speeding up. I felt like I was getting more and more focused. I was on pace for the first 2 laps, but then on the 3rd I slipped and it made my 4th one really hard. I tried to do what Bill was yelling at me and I did them, but I had a hard time doing it for a long time. with like 200 or 100 meters left I died. I hit 6:27??? I can't remember. But it was off by 12 seconds.

Then the 1200 sucked because by then I was just ready to be done, and I really didn't want to do it. It didn't help that I was always the one to be up front and there wasn't anyone to push me, and I couldn't really chase anyone because Abigail and the boys were all hitting faster times. I can't remember my time, but it was slow.

Then we did 4 200s just "opening up the stride" but they seemed like normal 200s. They weren't timed but we still knew our times. weird how that happens :) I hit 39-41 on all of them. I hate the wind.

15 minutes of cool down was what we were supposed to do. I did 3 grass laps but wasn't quite at 15 minutes yet so I just took it to 8.5.

Pipeline!!! Natalie came!!!! :)

We went the normal way. I fell off of the group after about a mile and a half. After that I slowed down a lot. Then on the way back we did a "surprise fartlek" I was with Megan for a lot of it. I wasn't feeling too great and she must've been feeling pretty good. At least there was someone to run with. I did about 5 1 minute on 1 minute offs together when she passed me. I finished them alone after that. Then after 10 I finished the run back.

We went up to Red butte going the legacy bridge way. Then when we got up there we did some speed-change type stuff, running back and forth 100 meters. Then we did a speed workout there, which was weird because it was all on a hill and not around a track where you go in circles, and it was on dirt so it got super dusty.

Well it went 200, then 200 recovery, 400, 300 recovery, 600, 400? recovery, 800. Then we did it backwards, switching up when you go uphill and downhill.

Then we went back the same way. 

 You know, I wasn't feeling that great. As usual. But I think a lot of it went mental this workout and I did extra horrible. I was behind the 1st year people and couldn't help but think that I should be in front of them, yet I'm all the way in the back, took it negatively, and then thought about why I haven't quit yet. It took a lot for me to remind myself why. I've decided I just have to grit my teeth and stick it out until I'm out of this hole. Stupid Iron deficiency. Or whatever it is.

Today we went to red butte...again. But we went a different way. We went up to foothill then over and took the adventure run into the U campus then up from there. Then we did some hills after Tomy got interviewed and they took pictures? of us while we did the hills. We did 3 different hills 4 times. Then we went along shoreline to the zoo and back to the track.

I was feeling pretty light headed and weak during most of it. At one point it seemed like I was gonna pass out or something, but I just tried to work through it, but I didn't do so well just because of it. On the cool down I was really sick of this being in the back stuff so I just decided I was gonna try the best I could to catch the boys in front of me, so I used the downhill the best I could. Sometimes I would have to slow down but other than that it was okay.

We went down to Liberty. We did 3 2 mile tempos. I was supposed to hit just under 16 minutes with Olivia and Ellie. I was feeling good, so I just saw how long I could stick with Abigail. Then I just tried to work through the remaining mile. It didn't seem to be too fast and not too slow either. The first one I got 14:06, then 14:17, and finally 14:52ish. The last one was the hardest for me. Each time we got a recovery of running back to the start. Then we ran back to the track.

I think I'm finally coming back!!!

We did an 800 and 4 400s. They were all as hard as you could possibly go. a lap in between each. On the 800 I got 2:42, then for the 400s I hit 75, 75,77, 79.

Then we cooled down.

It reminded me so much of track! It's sad to think that Cross Country is almost over.

So I was expecting mile warmup, mile speed changes mile cool down, so I didn't bring my watch. I'm pretty sure Olivia said we ran 2.75ish, so that's what I put. We went up to sunnyside. We did a lap when we got there, then we did a red light green light version of a fartlek. That's pretty much what it was. We had to run fast on the "green lights" and then we had 8 steps to slow down when Bill yelled "red light." we did smaller laps of that, 3 of them? I don't know how many.

Then we did a lap and went back to the track.

1.25 warmup including strides.

I had a bad start. I got boxed in right at the bottom of the hill. The officials are MEAN. They were screaming at us and it was kinda scary. When I got to the top of the hill I did whatever I could to pass people. Whenever there was a gap I did a few speed changes to get in front of the group. Then I'd move on to the next one. When we got to the big hill I could feel the lactic setting in and I had a hard time going up it. But then I remembered last year where I walked it and I told myself that would NOT be me, I would be strong this year! So I worked up that. At the top of it I could sense the negative thoughts piling up, and then I just told myself "I've done this a million times, it won't hurt to do it once more!" So then I picked it up. On the next hill though I felt like I just couldn't pick up my speed! It was weird. I tried to recover quick, but I could feel myself crashing. Going around that parking lot Bill yelled at me that not passing is not racing, so I tried to pick it up again. That whole last mile sucked. I did pick up the pace, turns out I accidentally turned on the satellite on my watch when we had to restart. Oh well they can't DQ me now! What's done is done. But yeah, i did speed up. I had a really hard time kicking though. Even when I knew I needed to kick I couldn't bring myself to. When 2 girls were passing me on the track, that's when I started to kick. I passed one of them back but the other girl got me.

Then I did a mile cool down with Sarah and Megan. I'm okay with this race, it's better than I have been doing, but not quite what I wanted.

We went up to shoreline. It was so windy!!! I felt like we were going pretty fast but in reality we were going pretty slow...then along shoreline I had trouble breathing and i'm pretty sure I had an athsma attack, but I haven't had one for years... It kinda scared me so I stopped until I got it uder control. I wasn't really sure what to do so I waited until my breathing calmed down and when Oliva came up on me I felt like I could keep going, so I did. But I stayed back with her taking it easy because I didn't want anything else like that to happen again. When I looked in the valley the air looked awful. That's probably why I had such a hard time today. Dakota eventually caught up to us and the 3 of us went up to the yellow gate at red butte because we weren't really sure where to go. Then we just took the legacy bridge way back to the track. Then I did 2 grass laps while waiting for my dad to pick me up.

We ran to sugarhouse and then did 10 continuous hill loops by the first downhill at state. We went down the state hill and then back up a little after that. When we were done with that we did a grass lap then went along 13th back to the track. Then once I got there I finished it off to 8 then Bill told me to get in another half mile.

Today we did the VA loop until we got to the cemetery. Then we did  a 10 1 minute on 1 minute off fartlek. I finished almost right at 2 loops, so I did another one. Then we went backwards of what we did before.

We went to City Creek today. I think that's what it was. I was able to keep up with the front group for like 3 or 3.5 miles, then I fell off. We got to the bathrooms when we were at 5ish, then turned around and went back the same way. Actually, we zig-zagged at the lights. I tried to keep up with Bill and Abigail on the way back, but I fell off of them when we were like 2 miles away? i don't know really. My watch died right before the turn around point. :(

I went with Olivia and Emmaline to steiner's and we ran on the treadmills cause we decided it was too cold. I got in 2.25 when we decided to run around the ice rink for the rest of the time. We're guessing about a mile there. Going off of time for that :)

We ran to legacy bridge then to JCC. I started out with that front group, but I wasn't feeling good at all. I dropped off of them, then after I crossed legacy bridge I didn't know how to get to JCC so I waited for the others to catch up. We got to JCC and did about a mile, and then we turned around. We stopped to get a drink of water, then lost all the boys so Sarah and I took a different way, but ended up in the hospital. The nurses gave us wierd looks. Yeah, we booked it to the nearest exit. :)

Then we just took kind of the same way back.
